Islamic elements are clearly on the loose in that country, As to whether the people are ignorant is another thing. However, I take joy in knowing that they have Indian to keep them in check. I trust the powers of the world to exploit the rivalry between both nations so as to keep the extremist elements contained. (my opinion off course)

Foreign Affairs / Re: Romanian Witches Asked To Pay Taxes Can This Happen In Nigeria by ElRazur: 10:18am On Jan 07, 2011
I don't see how this will work in Nigeria. Unlike Nigeria, no one looks down at those who proclaim to be witches or see them as evil in Romania. They are free to practice their trade - card reading, tarrot etc.

Good luck on achieving that in naija.
Music/Radio / Re: Modenine Ft Ruggedman :: Shock Value (shock Of The Decade) by ElRazur: 10:13am On Jan 07, 2011
It may have been deleted perhaps?

Whatever the case it is no problem. Artist bigger than them had their beef, and made a recorded together. A good example will be Marley Mal and KRS one - Made a record after 20years of rivalry.

Jay z and Nas did the same thing after their publicised feud. It is not a big deal and nothing remotely shocking about it if it is true.

Music/Radio / Re: Creativity& Originality Is Dissappearing In Nigeria Y: What Should We Do by ElRazur: 2:43pm On Jan 06, 2011
I think it depends on how old you are and the type of music one was exposed to growing up. For those of us who were around in the 80s, we will share your view, while those who grew up listening to remedies and daddy showkey onwards will probably disagree.

Personally, I share your view but the other argument be say music dey evolve and this is what is happening. Perhaps we are at that stage of evolution in music where it is okay for beats to sound the same and everybody sound alike using autotune?

If you want originality, do your own thing and try to push it out there for people who may share your ideas?

Me I no fit think of any solution but suggestions lol.
Music/Radio / Re: Mode9 Is Not The Dopest Rapper In Nigera. by ElRazur: 12:19pm On Jan 06, 2011
After watching a bit of his video, I am having second thought.    Perhaps this is all a ploy to poke fun at the dumbness of the "nigger culture" or show how pathetic we are.

Surely, he can't be serious. Some one must have mentioned to him that he is joke.
Music/Radio / Re: Mode9 Is Not The Dopest Rapper In Nigera. by ElRazur: 12:12pm On Jan 06, 2011

Also, do anyone know if the two of them are still actively rapping?
Music/Radio / Re: Mode9 Is Not The Dopest Rapper In Nigera. by ElRazur: 12:11pm On Jan 06, 2011
Who is he?

Seriously, I am not a rapper and do not go all out to prove to be one. This guy however, makes me feel like I am the greatest rapper of all time.

So he is serious in his video, and I am here mocking around here (see link to thread)

Foreign Affairs / Re: Pakistani Governor Killed By Own Guard In Capital by ElRazur: 11:08am On Jan 06, 2011
It is a sad turn of events. What the governor was pushing for or being critical about is not unreasonable, or a bad thing. Yet, a follower of prophet Muhammed opted to end his life as a way to silence him. I wonder if 72 virgins will now await him in paradise for murdering a man who dares challenged archaic law or views?
Music/Radio / Re: Untouchable Ruggedman Video U'll Like 2 See by ElRazur: 10:13am On Jan 06, 2011
Lol@rapjunkie's comment. Hiring phantom for a video shoot may have pushed the budget up lol.

Nice track and I some how prefer this "hatless" rugged.

As someone who spent a bit of my free time making beats, I have to say I have massive respect for "So sick" than most producers in naija.

His beats speaks to me and it feels like I can picture him making that beat lol. His beats are usually tight and free from gimmicks. Respect.

Anyone know his Twitter name please?

Well capitalism thrives on people's woes, fears, and anxiety. There is nothing like the Nigerian dream, BTW. The movie industry in Nigeria is the biggest scam ever. I guess in your opinion, the politicians in Abuja deserve the money they make, and by extending your ludicrous argument to include other spheres of the Nigerian society, is it safe to assume that those people involved in 'yahoo yahoo' deserve the money they make as well; after all, they ( yahoo yahoo and politicians like Omisore and Tinubu) are doing nothing, but are making something
In my line of work, the average person invests at least 250000  dolls into their education, in the hope that it will pay big when they finish schooling. It is only in Nigeria, especially, in the movie industry, that people put in nothing, and reap big overnight.

Again, I have to breathe deep and ask you WTF are you talking about?   My point was Youtube is there to make money and in order to protect their own interest, they have to remove people who infringe on the copy rights of others, or you tube may face a legal suit.  Do you not understand this?

So in order to justify your need to watch movies for free, you are now talking about things that are totally unrelated? Dude, please stick to the point at hand. Which is, free movies at the expense of the makers is wrong.

Yes, to while away time. I'd rather watch, most times I just listen while I do other things on my computer, than say listen to music. I dont think the quality is worth my money and time really. I have not contradicted myself.

Do you even know what contradiction means?   If you asserted that the movies are crap, why do you watch them? Surely, you will have the simple decency of ignoring it? Are you kidding me again?

Why are you thinking like Ileke like this? Are you from Ekiti as well?
This is all about quid pro quo my guy
I work hard, and I bought my laptop from best buy with my money. It wasnt given to me free of charge. I dont know about you, but here nothing is free. Internet access? Need I explain?

Please read in between the lines, if you work hard to buy your stuff, then those who work hard to make movies can dictate whether their movies can be shown for free or not.  As it stand, they appear to fight piracy, but you have have a problem with this. Jesus, man!

I dont do movies. Why should i be jealous of those riff-raffs?

You claim you aint jealous of them, yet your post stinks of envy, jealous and "wish I am living it large like them". I mean, why will you make reference to their life style?

They owe me plenty
They are able to make it as easily as they have done because the government isnt doing her job
There are no certifications required, no tax collected from them. No well staffed oversight body to regulate their activities, and the quality of the crap they produce. Simply put, they have exploited the system badly, and by so doing, they have denied their fellow citizens, yours truly included, services we would otherwise have enjoyed.

No, i am not joking. i am damn serious

You are deluded if you feel a fellow citizen who happens to be a movie maker or actor owes you something. It is a very ridiculous thing to say.

As per the rest of your post, they are not the system, they are merely surviving in the same system 130million people are living in too.

You cannot be serious, because there is no ounce of seriousness in your post.

PS
By "Nigerian Dream" I am talking about the Nigeria's version of the American Dream, where one comes from nothing to become something.

SMH.

Mobinga:

No. Me and you can't deal.

Exactly!

This is why I love sarcasm.

Me and you for example do not get along (according to you) so there will always be a debate. Smh.

Never knew so many of you watched Nollywood movies.

I barely watched naija movies as I find them predictable, plus I go cinema a lot and watching naija movies after feels like a bad experience. Having said that, I respect those who watch it and the need to protect people's Intelectual Property and what not.

Mobinga:

Another argument angry

Ode

I am talking about quid pro quo

These guys did not invest shi shi into their education, did not study the industry; pretty much, they woke up, joined the industry, monopolised it with their African magic, and bula, they are making millions while zillions of professionals are roaming the street aimlessly. A little bit of fariness here my guy. What they produce is absolute nonsense. Same theme, same plot, same face day in, day out

WTF. *****Breathe Deep**** WTF

What a load of self-justification.

Do you have a single proof to all of your wild claims? There was never an "industry" in Nigeria when it came to movie making. You had Pioneers like Pa Ogunde, Babasala, Ray Eyiwunmi and co but there was never a SET STANDARD or Standard of Practice.
You claimed, they did nothing, but became something. Surely, ain't that what capitalism and "Nigeira dream" is about? Are you kidding me? Jesus freaking wept.

So the movies is not to your taste as you will want us to believe, but you will rather try and watch it for free? You contradicted yourself and just talking for the sake of it.

They do not deserve the lifestyle they enjoy, looking at the quality and content of the crap they produce. It is sheer wickedness on their part to go after those youtube uploaders. The people watching it are  not going to buy it in the first place. i watch it whenever I am homesick and feel like hearing some Yoruba, not necessarily because I love it. What they should do is that they should  prevent it from been bradcasted/watchable in Nigeria, and allow the rest rest of the world, especillay the Nigerians in the west, have access to it. A little bit of public service , thats what we are asking for.

If they do not deserve their lifestyle, is it a fair assessment that you do not deserve to be allowed near a computer with internet access ever?

Dude, your post is coming across as jealousy and envy to be honest.

You seem to come across like it is your damn right to watch movies for free simply because it is Nigerian movie. Don't be daft please. This folks owes you nothing and their stuff should not be watched for free if it is their blood and sweat.

What a joke. Please tell me you are joking?  shocked

lagbaja20:

Ode, wetin concern Youtube concern nollywood
Hows youtube going to make money from having less nollywod materials on their site?

As a matter of fact, the present arrangement of having private individuals upload those videos is the best for youtube. The problem here is IrokoPartners or whatever they call themselves. They are trying to corner the industry, and I bet it with you, it is going to be an EPIC FAIL. The industry is not as lucrative as they think it is!

You really are a joke. Youtube makes enough money, so removing individuals who upload pirated or unauthorised naija movies will not make a dent in their profits.

If IrokoPartners are reported to have the backing of those who represent the actors/actresses/producer in Naija, why cant the individual wanting to upload such movies go and get the same permission? Simple common sense.

You keep making personal opinions as fact. Please refrain from doing that. undecided

Yes, in a socialist system

My point is that those people make too much money. people like Ogogo and Yinka Quadri with ordinary school certs. live better than a lot of professionals in Nigeria. Going after Youtube uploaders is a wrong move in my opinion.

Youtube is not a socialist system. It is there to make money and have rules and regulation. Those infinging on copy rights via uploading unauthorised video are breaking regulations and rules, so youtube is doing the right thing by removing them.

So David Beckham, YaYa Toure, Bill Gates etc are one of the most highest earners in their profession, I suppose because of this, let us not pay to watch them play or Pirate every copy of Windows 7 that we can find?

By the way, what do you do?  undecided

oyb:

as a warez monkey, all i can say is - nothing lasts forever

what iroko and co really need to do is some youtube collabo - there is obviously a big market for online nollywood movies.

i hope they will be able to find a way to push themselves into the 21st century; there's clearly a business opportunity here.

Going by what people are saying, they appeared to be doing that already.

The only problem I see here is that more and more people seem to want things for free on the internet.

There is nothing wrong with watching the movies free of charge.

And this is the mentality I mentioned earlier.

You don't expect to receive free money or free lunch, why should movies be watched for free?

Perhaps lawyers, doctors and Engineers should all give their services for free too? No?

treylaw:

Don't get me wrong I'm not in any way supporting copyrights infrigement . . . But i wonder why the youtube channels 'Nollywoodlove' and 'Iroko Partners' are complaining to youtube about the uploaders? I, personally, think it's just about their own business and not their 'love' for Nollywood! Otherwise, why would they be busy uploading the same movies they're asking Youtube to pull down?

They may have the backing of the "producers and Actors body" in naija, while others probably don't. The whole thing is a complex area as copyright laws with regards to IP and what not can be complex and may not be existence in some case (in naija)

Just a thought.
