Coogar. What is the "required dosage" You claim Marijuana isn't harmful yet it is a controlled substance or illegal in many parts of the world. You claim it isn't harmful yet there is a high incidence of psychosis amongst smokers. (Especially those who are dependant on it) Look, Weed do have some benefits (those who suffer from Arthritis claim it is soothing and help their inflammatory disorder) however there are chemicals present in it that causes a lot of harm or associated with harm at least. As it stand so far there are more research that supports the stance marijuana is more harmful. |

Speaking of unmanned aerial craft, the US, Israel, UK, Germany and perhaps France are way ahead of any nation on earth. Those who regularly give comments on world conflicts already stated from almost 5 or 6 decade ago that warfare of tomorrow will be via robots. I think this is already happening anyway. The first gulf war saw Iraqi army surrendered to a UAV during a battle. Exoskeleton are being built and tested already. These allow a soldier to have the power and capabilities of say a small army in terms of raw strength or firing power. Robotic dogs/beast that can ferry wounded soldiers are prototype ready as of last year or so. Israel already developed a gun that can see what's round the corner. This means a soldier can take out enemies with shots without exposing himself to incoming fire etc. |

Woli dafidi You touched on an important point there and can I ask you if you fit write a thread specifically for this? It is bizarre how the current generation - even though there isn't much difference in terms of years between "us" and "them" - have a distorted view of many things. Ranging from success, to how the things should be etc. May be I am getting old and what not, but then I noticed that if you speak to anyone over 25, they pretty much share your point. @Topic Here is a good link to read on amy. She's more or less a victim of a broken home, a broken relationship (probably as a result of coming from a broken home) etc. Anyway, have a read if you can. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/8656986/Amy-Winehouse-1983-2011.html |

sonyvaio: Military technology of Western nations are usually so advanced that a few years budget cut won't be enough to make a massive dent in the general advancement of military technology IMO. UK PM already stated that while a few projects - war ship and possible nuclear war heads - may be scrapped, UK will spend money in areas that are needed. I think he cited counter-insurgency etc. That is, hitting the enemy before the threat even materialise (Similar to what Mossad of IDF are good at perhaps?) I think one can make the argument that while there will be defence cut, there will also be improvement in areas that UK military see fit, in order to remain efficient. |

Cap28 What's wrong with allowing an Old person to live in a home (Old people's home)? They are cared for, fed and there is a Doctor and Nurse on call 24 hours. They essentially have their own rooms or even apartment and Nurses will only come in during meal time or to check on them. How is this such a bad thing? They get to socialise with their own age-group etc, so what is really the issue here? Will you prefer he is in Nigeria surrounded my Grand children and children only for the day and they can go about their business while he is left to rot alone in the village, or perhaps the option of living with one of his children who may have to go to his own job and as such not able to look after him properly a better option? For someone who post some a lot of "conspiracies", perhaps you should stop and think? Most elderly people who are not able to cater for themselves will prefer to be in a home than to be alone or die of loneliness. Also it wasnt an easy decision for the wife . Nah wah o. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: How Did The British Run An Empire With Such A Small Army? by ElRazur: 12:25pm On Jul 24, 2011 |
sonyvaio: Your post is saying different things in my opinion. Modern warfare is not always about numbers, rather how well trained, well equuipped and how efficent an army is. China's army is the most in the world terms of sheer numbers, however tthey are poorly equipped and not as efficient when compared to say that of US or perhpas Japan and Canada. Remember the movie 300? It was based roughly on war events that happened in Persia (now called Iran). About 300 men fought according to history to keep over 5 thousand men at bay for 3 good days or so due to how efficient they were back then. Also, Israel army is small when compared to that of Egypt, yet due to the efficiency of IDF (Israeli defence force), they handed the Egyptian and Syrian Army a beating that is forever written in history during the seven days war. My point? Well, it is not always about numbers and future wars will rely more on efficiency rather than large number of men on the ground. As per your quote on what Robert gates is saying, you seem to forget that NATO is not only UK but a combination of other EU nations too. As such, there will be political debate/differences as to committing troops to a potential war that it isn't strongly supported by the UN and to a lesser extent, the arab world. Also take into consideration the current economical climate, and you'll realise that no nation is keen on a long-running war. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: How Did The British Run An Empire With Such A Small Army? by ElRazur: 10:06am On Jul 24, 2011 |
As already mentioned, they had/still have a good navy. Also back then it was the norm in the British society to promote "exploration", thereby spreading the British influence. Men who conquered and discovered new places were highly respected etc. Also to add an angle to this debate, future war won't be about numbers how how large an army is, rather it will be about how efficient the actual army is and the type of weapon at their disposal. Israel has demonstrated this in the past, where they defeated Syria, Egypt and a few nations in the "seven days war". China is recognizing this too and hence why they escalated the modernizing of their army. USA is far ahead in this aspect too with the biggest defend budget than any other nation in the world. In fact, most western nation with small army tend to have speciality of somekind that works very well in their favour. 1 Like |

tpia@: Yup it is. Personally, I feel Rupert Murdoch wields too much power and influence for one man. I hope the politicians can now break-free from his hold and strip him of his power and influence. The actions of his corporation or those who worked for his business empire are criminal. Period. I hope someone is jailed for this. As it stand, in my opinion and based on the allegations and scandals, I fo not feel Rupert Murdoch is a "Fit and Proper" owner to run a business in the UK. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Has Gadaffi Succeeded In Humiliating Nato And Obama? by ElRazur: 8:30am On Jul 21, 2011 |
How can one criticize NATO while ignoring the fact that it was a "limited mission". It was just air bombardment of crucial targets with no ground force to mop up the pockets of resistance shielding Ghadaffi. If the NATO forces are unleashed on the ground with say a battalion or maybe slightly more, then Gadaffi would no doubt be dead. But hey, let's ignore all of these and let our anti-western hatred get in the way and let's all hail Ghadaffi a hero and Giant of Africa who "Stood up" to the West, Nato and Amellikcca. Jeez. It may also be worth adding that due to Global economical changes, and transition happening in most Western military forces, these nations do not want to be tied down in a long and dragged on war that the UN won't give a proper go ahead. |

Sorry if I'm late to the party. I will murder anyone who brings god into this or claim the guy was under the influence of the devil or some other spiritual crap. It is shocking to read something like this, and more sickening to hear people trying to rationalise this via blaming the devil. Let's be blunt, the guy clearly have crazy issues going on and as such should be sectioned indefinitely or locked up in jail for the rest of his life. |
Webmasters / Re: Can Google+ Compete With Facebook by ElRazur: 2:15pm On Jul 03, 2011 |
Why do most nigerians seem to have a mentality of all or nothing? People are forgetting that it is entirely possible for both social networks to exist side by side. You know, just as Apple and Microsoft existed side-by-side for years. Anyway, to answer the question, Yes Google+ can compete with Facebook. As to whether this happens remains to be seen. Let's not think this is a walk in the park for Facebook. Actually, it is far from it. After all, My Space, Friends, Bebo et al were all part of the "in thing" at some point before they faded off. Nothing last forever and as such, it isn't entirely a fantasy to see facebook becoming deserted. Last month, it was reported that in the UK alone over 100, 000 are leaving facebook every month etc. Is this a sign of things to come? Time will tell. I don't know if this was mentioned already, but Mark Zuckerberg already opened a Google+ account and this is confirmed by people in the know that it is him. Now my question of course is why did he opened an account? While the answer will range from wanting to check out the opposition to how may be worried etc. Personally I feel it is more to do with both. My two cents. |

goodbobo: I know exactly what you said. I am just wondering what your definition of an "average graduate" is. Also, how many "average graduate" get a "high paying job" in Nigeria? Also what will be your explanation of a "high paying job"? My point be say, building house or having many material stuff do not necessarily equates to "doing fine". Here in the UK, I know people who have remortgage their house just to drive a ferrari. Now, for those watching from the outside, that person must be doing fine? I swear you no funny rara. At certain point in life, we have certain priorities, just remember that sir. 1 Like 1 Share |

Can I just point a few things out. pelezico: I think you are missing a few things here. While I see your frustration and the point you are trying to make, you should see things for what they are at times. If you earn a decent salary, there's really nothing stopping you from enjoying yourself here. Have you considered moving outside of London and living in less expensive place? As per your point on mortgages, that's the whole point of buying a house! Technically, the house isn't your until you finish paying for it. Again, if you earn enough like you said, I really do not see the problem. Mortgage here can range from 25years - 30 years average. If you are paying your bill on time, then no one will come and knock on your door. As per the land, I think you'll find that the land belong to the state, while some things like the Swan we see at parks etc is technically the Queen's property. It is their law, it is their land, it is their tradition. I really do not see the big deal. Also it may be worth adding that lands here aren't sold outright they way they are in naija. They are more or less leased for say 25/50/75/100years. While you may not agree with the system, it does appear to work. You have nothing to worry about if you pay your bill on time. Your car is not yours since without MOT you cannot drive your car on the roads and are in danger of having it seized by the bailiffs. Car insurance increased fro no good reason by 30% at least and is set to increase again by 30% by the end of this year. Again for no good reason. I think you are getting your facts twisted here. If you buy a car and not owe no penny on it, it is yours. However, to use it on a public road that is funded by tax payers money, you need to have a MOT (To those who may not understand what MOT is, it is just a test to make sure a car is road worthy, the emission is within acceptable range etc.) MOT is a legal requirement. It is the law of the land. The other way round it, is off course to jump on the public transport. Car insurance increase every year, regardless of making a claim or not. The increase is usually linked with inflation and the amount of overall pay out made to drivers the previous year or something. While I agree that insurance could be cheaper, I think by shopping around you should get a good deal. Case in point, I paid 400pounds for my car insurance last year and during my renewal this year, I was quoted 450. After calling up my insurance, they readjusted the price and it has a mere increment of 19pounds. You see, just buy shopping around and haggling, I got a good price. As per the Council tax, you need to remember that there is a global recession, and as such there will be cuts everywhere. Local council aren't getting enough money and since it cost them money to give us local services like bin collection, etc it is just normal that some of these prices will be passed to us in form of increment. Almost every road in London has parking restrictions and you end up having to pay £110 if you float the parking rule. If you do not pay the bailiffs are sent in to seize your property. The bill can escalate to 1000s of pounds. There are many cases where the council will hand parking tickets to drivers unlawfully just to rake in more cash. London is a small city. Parking restrictions will therefore be in place. It is not much of a science to be honest. Again, since you appear to be worried have you considered using public transport? I cycle to work on sunny days and I use the train to go to work, even though I drive. You see, it is just all about planning. If i drive to work, then I'll be face with congestion charge fee, parking space fee and no rest of mind. That's too much so i just ride my bike or use the trains. . . far easier and less stressful. The educational system here is a joke. FULLSTOP. Education system is subjective. Again, have you consider sending your kids to a private school? I agree that some schools are rubbish and some aren't desirable. HOwever to label the whole education system as a joke is an unfair description. Is Nigeria a better option if you have a plan. I have prayed about this and i know God is saying to stay put for know This is the million dollar question and a decision only you will have to make. As my people say, "na you sabi where shoe dey pain you for feet." I like the fact that I have constant power supply here, I can break my neck and won't have to pay a penny to any doctor to fix me up, I have peace of mind, I have my close family members here, I have my woman here, I have my things in life that mean the most to me here and I feel like I am achieving a lot here. Again, these are just my own views and may not work for you. As per suggestion, have you considered going to live in naija for three months or more to try and get a feel of how things will be like? 6 Likes |
