Romance / Re: Lamentations Of A Battered Husband by ennainot(f): 2:37pm On Jun 28, 2013 |
dolphinife: I have known him for two years. He's one of those distant neighbours who had tru casual interactions become a friend. In the months that we lived together in d same area and when we ocassionally ran into one another, our conversation never went beyond the usual inquiry about the weather or the offhand question: how is ur family? He was introverted, easy-going and almost self-effacing. I knw him as someone who minded his biz. That was as far as our friendship went until a year ago when I began to see him with a lady. @ OP,dolphinife, It would have been nice to add that this post is a fictional story that appeared in Punch by Bayo Olupohunda http://www.punchng.com/opinion/lamentations-of-a-battered-husband/ 3 Likes |

Nairaland / General / Re: 20 Killed In Renewed Benin City Cult War by ennainot(f): 4:08pm On Jun 17, 2013 |
These sort of senseless killings will continue as long as the politicians keep arming, financing, and using cultists to settle scores with their perceived opponents. Some people have no business having or raising children. Parenting is more than the ability to father or mother a child... oh well, what do i know! 2 Likes |

Culture / Re: How Well Can You Speak Your Mother Tongue? by ennainot(f): 3:00am On Jun 10, 2010 |
@ OP thanks for your observation. I am in my mid-twenties and can speak, read and write Edo lang( my mother tongue) fluently. The issue of mother tongue neglect is more common with minority ethnic groups in the Niger Delta region. Some languages in Edo state have gone extinct within the last 15 years, some others have less than 20 speakers. Its a sad state of affairs. A lot of parents speak only English to their kids at home out of ignorance thinking it is the civilised thing to do. Well,i never spoke any English until i started school and i did well, even better than my peers in learning Eng Lang. Research has shown that children who are exposed to several languages before they are 5 when their Language Acquisition Device (LAD) is at its most active state will master all of them. BTW, LCD -Liquid Crystal Display may not have a single word to match it in our native languages because our languages have not grown or coined suitable words to accommodate new words and expressions especially the ones that have no root in our culture. Can you think of a word for snow in your native language? I didnt say a word that describes snow, but an equivalent word meaning snow?Aha! Therein lies your answer. |
Romance / Re: Pet Names And Phrases Guys Use On Girls And Girls Totally Detest by ennainot(f): 12:28pm On Mar 25, 2010 |
Echidime: Any girl If all the girls you meet are blood suckers or after your 2 kobo.Does that not tell you something about yourself and taste in women? Wake up and smell the coffee Echidime! Some persons just speak thoughtlessly forgetting they have mothers and sisters. To all of you posters wondering what women want as per pet names and phrases, get this 'If you barely know me or any other woman ,YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO CALL HER A PET NAME'!!!!!!!!! Pet names or special endearment phrases are for those you have some relationship with. I mean its not really my business if you decide to call your wife or fiancee 'Ekaette' or baby at least there is mutual agreement but if you decide to be presumptious and assume that a woman you are not in any relationship with likes being called 'baby' or some other equally lame word then you are ill-mannered. |
Politics / Re: Yar’adua Returns To Work Next Week - Associates by ennainot(f): 8:48pm On Mar 22, 2010 |
Nobody should loose sleep over his return. Let him return first then we start from there. If Jonathan had not sacked the FEC, Yaradua wouldnt be ''resuming to work by next week''. I believe this is just to throw a spanner in the wheel of progress this will make Jonathan scared I presume. Let him resume now. He failed to resume for up to 3 weeks since 'returning' to Nigeria and suddenly when his loyalist were thrown out, he suddenly wants to 'resume'. Nonsense@ Totalabi,(post 31) Thank you o jare my brother. |
Family / Re: Is He Too Young For Disciplinary Measures? by ennainot(f): 8:38pm On Mar 19, 2010 |
Hello Ponnusma, If all your child was doing was baby talk and sleeping.Ha! That is quite normal for children.Maybe the doctor over-reacted or maybe she was having a bad day or maybe she was dealing with personal issues and just lashed at you. Pele! She is not perfect even though she is a Pediatrician. No parent is born with a manual on how to raise children perfectly. Sometimes it is trial and error,(if you are a christian though, base your child's training on the bible) and for new parents a firstborn child may be their learning curve. However,as to your question' Do you feel I should start to discipline my one and only child or should I wait for an year or two, when he is old enough to understand right from wrong? I say NO,do not wait till he is older. Discipline him as appropriate for his age. If he is old enough to recognise you and calls you 'mummy'. Then he is old enough to understand certain rights and wrongs appropriate for his age. Discipline at that age may not necessarily involve caning or frog jumps, etc, etc it MAY take the form of spanking,Scolding in stern tones( do not shout),taking away his favourite toy or toys and rewarding good behaviour. Your child is not too young to understand that actions have consequences. Your stating that he is your one and only sounds as if that should excuse naughty behaviour. Please do not let sentiments cloud your judgement. As a mother,am sure you want what is best for him. The bible says 'Train a child from infancy' and at Prov 23:13 it says discipline him even if he is a mere boy as he will not die. All the Best. |
Fashion / Re: Why Is Pink Mostly The Favourite Colour Of Ladies? by ennainot(f): 1:16am On Mar 16, 2010 |
I think its because the colour (especially light pink) is cool and feminine in a very subtle way. Though my favourite colour is sky blue. @ Ayettymams (I love ya name so nor mind the abbrevation) please read the OP again. He never said all women like pink,I believe his words were 'most women'. BTW,Which' Jungle woman' likes pink? |
Career / Re: Masters Degree Or Continue With Present Job by ennainot(f): 5:16pm On Dec 11, 2009 |
Hello Jean2002 Can your present employer give you a study leave while you are studying for your masters/getting more qualifications? If so,then you will not need to resign from your present employer if you are proceeding for advanced studies. This will also ensure that you have a job ready at hand(and not start looking for another) if you do decide to come back home. As for the marriage aspect,Was marriage part of your plan at this point in your life masters or no Masters? Or is the urge to get married solely spurred by a zeal to 'commit' to your fiancee so that you or she wont marry someone else why you are away? If you do want to get married, would your fiancee be willing to accompany you as you travel for your studies? what does she do? Marriage is an institution founded by God and its not to be treated lightly. I personally won't encourage a newly wed couple to live apart FOR ANY REASON. Your life together as a couple is more important than any degrees or qualification you might get. Most importantly, the 2 of you (You and your fiancee) should rely completely on God in prayer so you can make the best decision(s). All the best bro |
Family / Re: Is Marital Infidelity Genetic? by ennainot(f): 4:46pm On Jul 29, 2009 |
No marital Infidelity is not genetic. However, upbringing and family values are often shaped by our immediate family. Is Divorce genetic considering that most children from broken homes end up with broken marriages themselves? It is not nature, its mostly nurture. Does the lady in question realise the odds against her and is she willing to be different.what are her own values like? Food for thought, All the best to your friend. |
Culture / Re: Is It Ever Too Late To Learn Your Language? by ennainot(f): 2:55pm On Jul 29, 2009 |
No. It is never too late to learn your Mother Tongue or any other language for that matter. To achieve this, you may need to invest in tapes or audio material in the target language, books and if possible increase your contact with people who speak the language. An adult learning learning a new language is like a toddler taking his first steps, definitely going to make mistakes and people will probably mock your haltering attempt, but dont let that deter you.Use the language as often as you can. You will be fluent soon. |
Career / Re: Oceanic Bank Sack Over 1500 Staffs In 30days by ennainot(f): 1:36pm On Jul 29, 2009 |
@ All, It doesnt take much to realise that this osamaobama is either ;a, A disgruntled staff, b),an employee of a rival bank or c) a Rabble rouser. In 2006 or 2007,there were rumours that Oceanic bank was going under.Well,it never did and even that same year, the bank was voted 'Bank of the year' by Financial Times of London. .My question is what evidence does this osama fellow have to buttress the allegations above? If you can provide evidence,i will join you in shouting from the rooftops that this bank is about to collapse. One of the glaring lies in the initial post is that 'Oceanic bank is highest paying bank' .That is a popular falsehood in the banking Industry. I work for an auditing firm and i have access to 'Peer Review in the banking Industry'. This Osama fellow is quite a confusionist really, how many staff does Oceanic bank have in the first place,if we go by his claims that means the 1500 sacked are about one fifth of the total workforce or 1 in every 5 employee. Fellow Nairalanders, please how many Oceanic bank staff do you know and how many have been laid off so far? Yeye dey smell.mxtchewwwwwwwwww |
