A unique ball for a fiery season fun-in

ÓRBITA FUEGO arrives at a pivotal moment in an already intense competition. Ten teams are currently battling to avoid relegation in LALIGA EA SPORTS, making this one of the closest seasons ever. In fact, the current leader holds the lowest points tally (66) in four seasons, and there's a mere three-point gap between first and second place. Remarkably, the 18th-placed team has accumulated 27 points, the highest in the last six seasons (tied with the 2022-23 season).

In LALIGA HYPERMOTION, 15 clubs are still in with a chance to finish in the top six, with eight teams (Granada CF, UD Almería, Real Oviedo, SD Huesca, CD Mirandés, R. Goals from Johnny Cardoso and Cucho Hernández earned Manuel Pellegrini his first league victory against Sevilla FC as coach of Los Verdiblancos.



Real Betis conquered city rivals Sevilla FC 2-1 on Sunday night, a result which means so much to the green and white half of the city. That was made clear by the fact that the Estadio Benito Villamarín was still packed long after the final whistle had blown, with the players treated to chorus after chorus of praise and adoration as they completed a well-deserved lap of honour.

This was the club’s first league victory over their rivals since 2018, so it had been long overdue. They had beaten their rivals in the Copa del Rey en route to winning that trophy in 2021/22, but this was the first league win against Sevilla FC since Manuel Pellegrini took over as coach back in 2020. After four losses and five draws in his previous nine league derbies against Sevilla FC, on Sunday night the Chilean – recently named LALIGA EA SPORTS Coach of the Month for March – could finally celebrate.

“We owed it to the fans to get this derby win,” Pellegrini explained after the game. “It was very important to win this derby at this moment. We’ve been on top for several seasons yet we didn’t show it in the derby. So, I’m very happy for the fans. It’s not just about beating Sevilla FC, it’s about getting as high up the table as possible and achieving European qualification for next season.”

Six wins in a row for the comeback kings

With this victory, Real Betis have now won six matches in a row in LALIGA EA SPORTS and sit in sixth place in the table, although they’re level on 47 points with fifth-placed Villarreal CF, who they take on in two weeks’ time in Matchday 31. Before that, there’s a trip to challenge league leaders FC Barcelona in Matchday 30 this coming Saturday, and Los Verdiblancos will travel to Catalonia with confidence.

They have been in fantastic form, especially since Isco’s return from injury in December and since the winter transfer window when Brazilian winger Antony and Colombian striker Cucho Hernández arrived. The latter scored the winner in ELGRANDERBI on Sunday, latching on to a beautiful through ball from Isco and keeping his cool to slot into the back of the net. That goal completed a comeback, after Rubén Vargas had opened the scoring for the visitors and after Johnny Cardoso levelled things up.

It was just the second time this century that Real Betis have won a derby against Sevilla FC after conceding the opening goal, after also doing so once back in 2012. This Real Betis squad has a “never give up” mentality to it, and this was the third game from their past four in LALIGA EA SPORTS in which they have secured victory after conceding the opening goal. As Pellegrini described it afterwards: “After their goal, we saw the maturity of this team as they fought back and even had chances in the second half to extend the lead further.”

LALIGA Adventure seeks to create a bridge between Spain and the region’s top content creators

Madrid, 27 March 2025 – The second edition of LALIGA Adventure has officially kicked off. This unique LALIGA project in Southeast Asia aims to build a bridge between the best content creators in the region and the world of Spanish football. This season, the Official Hosts of LALIGA Show in countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Australia will travel to Spain to attend live matches and enjoy an unforgettable LALIGA Adventure together with LALIGA EA SPORTS clubs. FC Barcelona, CA Osasuna, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, Getafe CF, Real Sociedad, D. Alavés are amongst the clubs included in the project.

In the first edition of LALIGA Adventure, creators from nine markets in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan and South Korea, traveled to Spain, where they discovered the inner workings of 12 LALIGA clubs and explored their cities, resulting in 264 million views on published content. This year, to boost both projects, the second edition of LALIGA Adventure will feature the Hosts of LALIGA Show.

LALIGA Show is a recurring content program coordinated together with TikTok in the Asia-Pacific region where each country is represented by one Tiktok influencer or publisher. LALIGA Show Hosts convey key topics, information and insights about LALIGA on a regular basis with a goal of promoting the Spanish league and its broadcasters to their local audiences. As part of their role, each Host will represent their country and take part in LALIGA Adventure, linking the two projects to enhance their combined strength.

TikTok has partnered with LALIGA in the region and, starting this season, promotes exclusive content on TikTok with the top creators from each country, providing access to exclusive material and news from the competition under the hashtag #InsideLALIGA.

Atlético de Madrid’s match up against FC Barcelona this Sunday, 16 March (10pm CAT) is one of the fixtures that every LALIGA EA SPORTS fan marks down on the calendar because of its great history as well as the memorable moments that the fixture always seems to provide.

It’s a game that’s always seemed tailor-made for African flair to shine. Here are some of the best occasions where the continents best made their mark.

[b]Samuel Eto’o Fils – 2006/07

Samuel Eto’o may have been the greatest African goal scorer in the league’s history, but in May 2007, it was his magical touch as a provider that propelled his team to an extraordinary 6-0 victory that silenced the home fans at the old Vicente Calderon Stadium.

The Cameroonian icon set up half of those goals for three Barça legends. The first was a quickfire one-two that set up a teenage Lionel Messi. He followed that up with another skillful one-two that put the majestic Ronaldinho through on goal. The cherry on top was an unselfish layoff that presented Andres Iniesta with an empty net.

Eto’o shone throughout his time with the Catalans under two legendary coaches: Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola. This game goes down as a perfect example of how he could elevate the team and the individuals around him.

Larbi Ben Barek – 1949/50

Atlético had brought in Ben Barek, known both as the ‘Black Pearl’ and the ‘Foot of God,’ the season before, after identifying him as a player that could take the Rojiblancos to the next level. A year later, he showed all his class as his team thrashed FC Barcelona.

LALIGA hadn’t seen anything like the Moroccan’s dribbling skills before and in November 1949, he spent the game turning the Barcelona defenders inside and out. He set the tone for the game as the Atlético attackers feasted on the chances created in a jaw-dropping 4-1 win.

Barek brought a skillful dimension that Spanish football had never seen before. He was key in Atlético’s back-to-back LALIGA title wins, and he will go down as a trailblazer that showed the way for African talent to flourish in Spain.

Emmanuel Amunike - 1996/97

Emmanuel Amunike properly announced himself to the world when he was a part of the legendary 1994 Super Eagles team at the FIFA World Cup, being named the African Footballer of the Year that same season. That put him on a path that led to FC Barcelona and the Spotify Camp Nou, where arguably his finest game in his short stint at the club came against Atlético de Madrid.

While his combination play with the likes of Ronaldo thrilled the fans, it was a defensive act that was his most telling contribution on the day.

In the second half, Barcelona had a one-goal lead but found themselves on the ropes against an Atletico attack – which also featured South Africa international Quinton Fortune that day – growing in confidence. In a quick attack that saw Juan Esnaider round the Barça goalkeeper, he stabbed it towards goal only for it to be cleared by Amunike who had miraculously tracked all the way back.

With their Super Eagle soaring down the wing, the Blaugrana completed a memorable 5-2 win away from home.

Seydou Keita 2009/10

Seydou Keita came to FC Barcelona at the start of the Pep Guardiola era and the Malian formed part of a midfield that revolutionised how possession football was played.

One of the best examples of this was on show in September 2009 when the reigning European champions hosted Atléti.

Barcelona won 5-2 in an incredibly controlled performance with Keita getting on the scoresheet with a bit of team magic. He started the move in midfield by finding Zlatan Ibrahimovic who held it up before passing to Lionel Messi. The Argentine beat the defender before laying it on a plate for Keita who had burst into the penalty area to score.

It was another example of one of the best qualities about the fixture: the most entertaining team usually ends up being the winning one too. No wonder African talent tends to flourish in this match-up.

The campaign features a message of unity and inclusion at its core, promoting an environment free of discrimination and attacks based on race or origin.

Madrid, 13th March 2025.- LALIGA, in partnership with EA SPORTS FC, is launching the fourth consecutive edition of its VS RACISM campaign to mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21. Through his artwork ‘Melting Pot of Cultures,’ urban artist SUSO33 showcases how football and urban art are universal languages that transcend borders, break barriers, and foster dialogue and respect among different cultures.

This year marks the fourth edition of the VS RACISM campaign, following on from the previous Unity VS Racism, Together VS Racism and #1voiceVSRACISM campaigns. In addition to bringing back the anthem that gave voice to last year’s campaign, 2025 sees LALIGA and EA SPORTS FC collaborating with urban artist SUSO33, who merges urban art and football to reflect the diversity and cultural richness they both represent. VS RACISM is another step in ‘Transforming The Game’, the shared vision of both organisations to shape the future of football and to move towards a football capable of creating a positive impact on society.

Jorge de la Vega, Executive Director of LALIGA, said: "Racism has no place in football or our society. At LALIGA, we continue working year after year to eradicate all forms of hatred, promoting values of respect, diversity, and inclusion. Sport should be a reflection of unity and coexistence among cultures.”

To bring this campaign to life with art as a key pillar, Madrid-based artist SUSO33 has adapted his piece ‘Melting Pot of Cultures.’ In a world in which identities evolve through interaction and exchange, football and art share a common language: they transcend borders, recognising creativity, talent and passion. SUSO33’s human-centered art is the backbone of the campaign, conveying an essential message of awareness and education against racism. This sentiment is reflected daily across LALIGA, where players of different races and nationalities from all over the world coexist on the pitch, showcasing how diversity is one of sport's greatest strengths.

Furthermore, in July 2024, the Community of Madrid announced the inclusion of urban art in its inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, with SUSO33 among the selected artists receiving official recognition and protection.

A 360-degree campaign will be launched across March, featuring many leading figures from the sports industry and a series of initiatives to reinforce its messaging

The Santiago Bernabéu will host another edition of ELDERBI DE MADRID between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid on Tuesday, while FC Barcelona will visit Benfica for a key first leg on Wednesday.

Following a thrilling Matchday 26 in LALIGA EA SPORTS, in which FC Barcelona extended their lead at the top, while Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid follow in second and third place, these three clubs’ attention now turns to the UEFA Champions League. The first legs of the Last 16 will take place this midweek, ahead of the second legs one week later. There is no margin for error in this knockout round, so some fascinating 180-minute ties await.

All three of these teams are still dreaming of a treble, since they’re firmly in the LALIGA EA SPORTS title race and also in the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The business end of the season has very much arrived.

Real Madrid vs Atlético de Madrid: A European ELDERBI DE MADRID eight years later

There is a blockbuster fixture on Tuesday. After Real Madrid eliminated Manchester City in the playoff round, they were paired with Atlético de Madrid. This will be the third meeting between these teams this season and it’s their first European derby in eight years.
Revenge will be one of the themes in this European meeting, after Los Blancos defeated their city rivals in the 2014 and 2016 finals of this competition. In fact, Real Madrid have never lost a match at home against their neighbours in European competition, winning all three of the continental clashes played at the Bernabéu. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side haven’t had much derby joy of late. Apart from a victory in the 2024 Spanish Super Cup, they haven’t defeated their rivals in any other meeting across the past two seasons.

Furthermore, both clubs have taken different paths to this tie. Diego Simeone’s side finished inside the top eight, thanks to impressive victories over the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayer Leverkusen. On the other hand, Real Madrid had to go through a playoff against Manchester City. As for their LALIGA EA SPORTS form, Real Madrid just lost 2-1 to Real Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, on the same day when Atlético de Madrid overcame Athletic Club 1-0 to boost their confidence.
Looking at the squads, both these clubs have star players across the pitch. In the Real Madrid ranks, both Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius have scored seven goals each this Champions League season, while both Julián Álvarez and Antoine Griezmann are on six each for Atleti.
Veteran Luka Modrić is another one to watch in this game, and his 39 derby appearances is the most of any player currently in these two squads. There are some injuries at both clubs, though, meaning Atlético de Madrid will be without Koke and César Azpilicueta, while Real Madrid are missing Dani Ceballos, Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão.

Benfica vs FC Barcelona: A rematch after the epic comeback in the league phase
In this tie, the first leg will be held in Portugal before the second leg in Montjuïc. Barça have earned the right to host the second leg having finished in the top eight in the league phase, during which they already paid a visit to Benfica. That was a truly epic game, with FC Barcelona producing a comeback to win 5-4, led by Raphinha and his two goals.

Hansi Flick’s side finished that league phase in second place, having earned six wins, one draw and just one defeat. They were the top scorers with 28 goals. Benfica, in their case, overcame Monaco 4-3 in the playoff round, after a league phase in which they won four games, drew one and lost three.

Benfica are currently second in the Portuguese league and are known for their dynamic play, so FC Barcelona will need to be careful. The players know that, after the scare in their earlier meeting. Looking at other previous meetings, the team from Lisbon defeated Barça 3-0 at the Estádio da Luz in 2021/22. FC Barcelona do come into this game with confidence, after defeating Real Sociedad 4-0 last weekend, while they also scored four goals in a 4-4 draw against Atlético de Madrid last midweek. Curiously, there were seven different scorers of the eight goals across those past two matches, highlighting the attacking depth of this team.

Both clubs do have one goal threat standing out above the others, Vangelis Pavlidis in the case of the Portuguese side and Robert Lewandowski for the Catalans. Benfica’s Greek striker scored a hat-trick against Barça in the previous meeting, a feat previously achieved by the likes of Faustino Asprilla, Andriy Shevchenko and Kylian Mbappé in this competition. Meanwhile, Lewandowski has a good record against Benfica, and netted seven goals in six meetings with the Portuguese side during his Bayern Munich days, including a hat-trick in a 5-2 win in 2021/22. He kept that up with a brace in the league phase game between these sides on January 21st, and will hope for another positive outing this Wednesday.

In the case of Getafe CF, they also need to be looking over their shoulders, since the relegation zone is only six points behind them in this competitive league.

Real Madrid face one of their toughest opponents of the past few seasons

Los Blancos have managed to beat Rayo Vallecano on just one of the last five occasions they have met. In that period, the team from Vallecas have earned three draws against Los Merengues in their last three meetings, including a 0-0 draw at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Carlos Ancelotti’s side will need to turn the tide and take all three points if they are not to fall too far behind the leaders in the title race, especially since Real Madrid have recorded just one win in their last five league games, with two draws and two defeats.

Iñigo Pérez’s men will be looking to achieve a victory at Real Madrid’s stadium for the first time since January 21st 1996, which is their only win so far at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Rayo Vallecano can travel across town with confidence, having suffered just two defeats in the past 12 matchdays. They also played very well on their recent visit to FC Barcelona, and only lost 1-0, just as they only lost 1-0 at home to Villarreal CF despite playing with a man disadvantage for an hour.

Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano is a game with many quality players, especially on Los Blancos’ left flank and the visitors’ right. That’s where Vinícius and Andrei Rațiu will do battle, and they’re both so quick at the same time as possessing the quality to be considered among the best in their position in the competition.

Atlético de Madrid want to keep up their good run at the Coliseum

When it comes to Atlético de Madrid, they’ll be looking to continue their great run of form at Getafe CF’s stadium, where they haven’t lost since November 6th 2011, a 3-2 defeat. Since that match, Los Colchoneros haven’t lost against Los Azulones at all, with the southern Madrid side only managing four draws in that time, two at home and two at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Every other time, Diego Simone’s side have won, and sometimes quite convincingly.

On this occasion, both teams have a lot at stake, as the home side are looking to confirm their place in the division and also push for Europe, while Atlético de Madrid need the three points to stay right in the mix in the title race, as they are currently second, just one point behind leaders FC Barcelona. Los Colchoneros are in a decisive moment of the season, as they’re fighting to be in the final of the Copa del Rey, in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League and to win LALIGA EA SPORTS.

Bordalás takes on his Kryptonite

José Bordalás is a coach who has managed to beat almost all the other tacticians he has faced in Spain’s top division, but there is one who has always been tough to crack. That is none other than Diego Simeone, who is particularly good at facing Getafe CF, as he usually knows how to counteract their tactics at all times. The overall record between the two coaches is 11 wins for Simeone, three draws and no wins for Bordalás, with 29 goals scored for Atleti and just eight conceded, including the two matches they played when he was in charge of Valencia CF.

The Catalans currently sit top of the table after thrashing a 10-man Real Sociedad 4-0 on Sunday. Boasting an extraordinary attack that averages 2.73 goals per game, Hansi Flick’s side have made the most of Real Madrid’s recent slip-ups to get back on the title race. With Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid just one and three points behind the leaders, respectively, FC Barcelona will look to extend their winning streak in the league to seven games by defeating a solid CA Osasuna on home soil.

Los Rojillos are coming into Saturday’s encounter on the back of a 3-3 draw against Valencia CF on Sunday. Los Che striker Umar Sadiq netted late in the game, forcing CA Osasuna to drop two important points in their pursuit of a top-six spot and a potential return to European competitions. Only five teams have lost fewer games than Vicente Moreno’s side, who have recorded a league-high 12 draws in 26 games.

“In the first half we made a lot of mistakes, it's not normal we play like this – we had a lot of changes in the team and this is maybe one reason for that,” Flick said after the game. “I think it was necessary. We had so many matches, a lot of players had so many minutes, I have to take care about that. This is my responsibility. If you want to blame someone for this defeat then take me.”

Yet, Barça have demonstrated that they could be vulnerable on home soil. Each of their last three league defeats took place at the Estadi Olímpic, where they lost three straight home duels to Atlético de Madrid, CD Leganés and UD Las Palmas back in November and December.
Hence, while the head-to-head might not be in CA Osasuna’s favour, Los Rojillos have already proven that they should not be underestimated. Flick will seek revenge against the team who dealt him his first league loss as an FC Barcelona coach, but it remains to be seen whether CA Osasuna could pull off a similar upset by ending Barça’s six-game winning run on Saturday.

Morocco international Brahim Diaz, who has played a part in 80% of reigning champions Real Madrid’s LALIGA matches this season, has been used to great effect as a scorer as well as a provider, and he will have an important role to play on all fronts in the run-in for Los Blancos.

Reinildo Mandava, meanwhile, has been a key contributor as a left back in Diego Simeone’s famous defensive system at Atlético de Madrid. It’s the Mozambiquan’s fourth season at the club and it could end with his first LALIGA title in Spain.

FC Barcelona’s teenage superstar Lamine Yamal, who has African heritage from both of his parents (his father is from Morocco and his mother is from Equatorial Guinea), has been the best provider in the league with 12 assists this season.

The Blaugrana currently sit on the top of the pile and could pull away further if either (or both) of the Madrid teams drop points this weekend.

Both Real and Atlético have tough opponents in Real Betis and Athletic Club respectively, which gives Matchday 26 the potential to be a key one in the title race.

Real Betis have shot up the table with only one loss in their last five games in a run that started with Cedric Bakambu’s injury-time winner after coming off the bench against RCD Mallorca.

The forward from DR Congo backed up being picked as a starter the next week with an assist in a 2-2 draw against high-flying Athletic Club.

This weekend, Bakambu’s side will be at home against Real Madrid – a club he scored against when he last played against them back in 2017 when he was at Villarreal CF.


Iñaki Williams

Lying six points behind the leaders, Bilbao-based side Athletic Club could really announce themselves as proper title contenders if they can pull off a win at Atlético de Madrid.

If they are to get a great result at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Iñaki Williams will surely have a huge role to play.

The Ghanaian international has made five goal contributions in seven league games including a goal and an assist last week in a 7-1 thrashing of Real Valladolid.

Behind the great Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o, Williams is the second all-time record African scorer in LALIGA EA SPORTS with 81 goals, five of them coming in past league meetings against Atleti.



Youssouf Sabaly

The defence of Real Betis has been bolstered by the return of Youssouf Sabaly from muscle injury and it showed in his first game last week with a win against Getafe.

The Ivorian was part of the club’s famous Copa del Rey triumph in 2021/22 and can be relied upon at right back as they compete for a European spot this season.

Sabaly has also offered an attacking threat down the right flank in the past, but he hasn’t really shown that this season. But with the exciting Brazilian winger Antony steadily cementing his place in the team and making Betis look dangerous in attack, the best of their combination is all to come.

Who will win LALIGA EA SPORTS this season is anyone’s guess, but one thing you can be sure of is that an African will play a key role in determining where the trophy will end up.

The Croatian midfielder opened the scoring in Real Madrid’s victory over Girona FC with a fantastic strike from 24 metres out.

2024/25 is the 20th season of Luka Modrić’s professional career and he continues to perform at the highest level. The Croatian midfielder is now 39 years of age and remains one of the most important members of the Real Madrid squad. In Sunday’s 2-0 victory against Girona FC, he proved that once again, by producing a sublime piece of skill to open the scoring.

With the scores locked at 0-0 and with half-time approaching, Real Madrid won a corner. The initial cross was cleared into the air, dropping towards Modrić some 24 metres away from goal. As cool as possible, the veteran midfielder chested the ball down and then blasted a thunderous strike on the half-volley, leaving Paulo Gazzaniga with no chance.

The shot and the goal almost seemed to catch the Bernabéu crowd by surprise, but Modrić knew what he was doing all the way through. “I was on my own there, I hit it and it went in,” he stated after the game. “Sometimes you have to shoot.”

This was the fourth goal Modrić has netted this season, and all four of them have been scored in 2025. Only two other members of the Real Madrid squad have scored more goals in 2025 than the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner: Kylian Mbappé (14) and Rodrygo (seven).

As the business end of the season approaches, Modrić is well and truly in his best form. In addition to his strike against Girona FC, he also scored in the 2-1 comeback win against Valencia CF in LALIGA EA SPORTS at the beginning of January, as well as in Copa del Rey wins over CD Minera and CD Leganés. He boasts six assists as well, with two of those coming in the first two months of 2025 too.

Ancelotti’s praise for Modrić: “He is a gift for football”

Modrić’s current contract expires at the end of this season and it’s unclear if he’ll continue for yet another season with Real Madrid. Asked about this following Sunday’s win, Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for the man who is Real Madrid’s club captain.

The Italian coach told the media: “Modrić is a gift for football. He should continue for as long as he wants. I had another player who reached 40 years of age, in the case of Paolo Maldini, who won a Champions League. You can compare the two in terms of what a footballer should be, as they’re both fantastic examples. Genetics matter, but also the seriousness, commitment and attitude you bring to the sport. That’s the only way you’ll last until 40 as a footballer, like Maldini did and like Luka Modrić will.”

For now, Modrić is focused on the 2024/25 campaign and on the very tight title race in LALIGA EA SPORTS, where Real Madrid are level on points with FC Barcelona and just one point ahead of Atlético de Madrid. Both of these prizes recognise the best Under-21 player of the year, and the FC Barcelona and Spain forward has claimed both.
The 17-year-old winger has had an incredible year. Not only has he become a regular starter for FC Barcelona, scoring 13 goals and providing 17 assists for the Catalan club since the start of the 2023/24 season, but Lamine Yamal also made key contributions to Spain’s victory at Euro 2024. He was named Young Player of the Tournament, thanks to his four assists and his incredible semi-final goal against France.
LALIGA’s dominance of the Golden Boy award
By winning this prize, Lamine Yamal continues the incredible run of LALIGA EA SPORTS players when it comes to the Golden Boy award. He is the fourth LALIGA footballer in a row to win it, after his Barça teammates Pedri and Gavi won it in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and after Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham claimed the honour in 2023.
Since the Golden Boy award was created in 2003, LALIGA EA SPORTS players have lifted it more than those from any other league. Lamine Yamal is the eighth player to receive this prize while playing in LALIGA EA SPORTS. The others have been: Lionel Messi (2005, FC Barcelona); Sergio Agüero (2007, Atlético de Madrid); Isco (2012, Málaga CF); João Félix (2019, Atlético de Madrid); Pedri (2021, FC Barcelona); Gavi (2022, FC Barcelona); and Jude Bellingham (2023, Real Madrid).
The 17-year-old is also the fifth Spaniard in history to be named the Golden Boy by the Tuttosport voters. Instead, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are currently three points off top spot. Meanwhile, Villarreal CF have gotten off to a solid start to the 2024/25 campaign, with El Submarino Amarillo pushing for European qualification after missing out on the European spots last season.

An entertaining match-up

Marcelino’s side are set to visit the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in what promises to be an entertaining fixture between two teams who offer fans historically high-scoring fixtures when they face each other. As many as 26 goals have been scored in the last five duels between Real Madrid and Villarreal CF across all competitions, working out at 5.2 per game.

This includes last season’s wild 4-4 draw at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Arda Güler netted twice, with Joselu and Lucas Vázquez scoring a goal each before the break to give Los Blancos a 4-1 lead heading into the second half. However, Alexander Sørloth, who has now joined Atlético de Madrid, struck four times to help the hosts secure a 4-4 draw on Matchday 37 back in May.

The last team to win at the Bernabéu

Another memorable clash between the two sides took place on April 8th 2023, in the Spanish capital. There, Samuel Chukwueze bagged a brace to lead Villarreal CF to a 3-2 victory away from home. That was the last time Real Madrid suffered a defeat on home soil, with Los Blancos since going 28 league games and 38 matches across all competitions unbeaten at the Bernabéu.

Could that run be broken again? Well, Real Madrid have kicked off the season without dropping a single point in four games at home, but Villarreal CF have been equally impressive on the road. In fact, only FC Barcelona have managed to pick up more points than El Submarino Amarillo away from home this term.

Marcelino’s side remain undefeated on the road, having celebrated three 2-1 victories, at Sevilla FC, RCD Mallorca and RCD Espanyol, as well as one 1-1 draw despite going down to 10 players with 20 minutes to go away at Valencia CF. As for Real Madrid, they beat Real Valladolid (3-0), Real Betis (2-0), RCD Espanyol (4-1) and Deportivo Alavés (3-2) at the Bernabéu to record a perfect 12 points at home so far.

Los Blancos haven’t lost a single LALIGA EA SPORTS game for over a year, with their last defeat having taken place on September 24th 2023, at the Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano against Atlético de Madrid, a 3-1 loss. From that point on, Real Madrid have gone unbeaten for as many as 40 matches, having registered 29 victories and 11 draws in the league. In fact, this streak of 40 games without defeat is currently the second-longest in LALIGA history. It now remains to be seen if the last team that celebrated a win against Los Blancos at the Bernabéu can deal a similar blow to Carlo Ancelotti’s side on Saturday.

As a socially responsible corporate organisation, CHI Limited prioritizes this road rehabilitation initiative to serve industrial & residential communities and takes cognizance of its importance to the development of the Nigerian economy.

The current road rehabilitation project is not the first CHI Limited is undertaking. In July 2018, the company partnered with the Isolo LCDA for the rehabilitation of roads within Ajao Estate.

CHI Limited has announced its partnership with Isolo Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) to rehabilitate road networks around the company’s vicinity in Isolo. This initiative will improve the condition of road infrastructure and have a positive impact on residents of the community as well as other road users who ply these critical roads on a daily basis.



As a socially responsible corporate organisation, CHI Limited prioritizes this road rehabilitation initiative to serve industrial & residential communities and takes cognizance of its importance to the development of the Nigerian economy.


The current road rehabilitation project is not the first CHI Limited is undertaking. In July 2018, the company partnered with the Isolo LCDA for the rehabilitation of roads within Ajao Estate.



Mr. Eelco Weber, Managing Director of CHI Limited, said the current road rehabilitation project is in line with the company’s commitment to positively impact the lives of the people in its immediate community.

“We believe that beyond manufacturing healthy fruit juices and value-added dairy that nourishes the body and enhances good health, we must also positively influence the development of the community we operate in”.



“Partnering with the Isolo LCDA in the rehabilitation of these roads is one of such positive developments because it impacts the lives of the people by making these roads up to acceptable standards, reducing traffic bottlenecks, improving everyday journeys and boosting economic activities” he added.

The road rehabilitation project will be executed by Emmadokun Ventures, a civil engineering and construction firm and is expected to be completed in two weeks.

In her opening remarks, CHI Limited Human Resources Director, Temitope Adedayo-Ojo, stated that the company is committed to driving diversity and inclusion through gender equity at the workplace. She used the occasion to unveil the Women’s Network at CHI Limited- “GREAT Rubies” which highlights the values that the women at CHI Limited represent.

Keynote Speaker, First Female Chairman of First Bank and Chief Executive Officer of The Chair Centre Group, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, stated that equity is about evaluating what each person needs to succeed at their best. She noted that women represent about 50% of Nigeria’s population and undermining them will be detrimental to society. She charged women to identify their limitations, close the gap, take ownership of their career and value their journey.

Speaking further, she stressed that for organizations, it will take every single person, both male and female, to be at their best to make them succeed. She called for organizations to create an ecosystem that helps in getting value for the organization, while optimizing the potential of staff members through its provision of resources and platform.

Former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has appointed Prof. Usman Yusuf as Special Adviser on Community Engagement to the Atiku, Okowa Presidential Campaigns.

In a letter, personally signed by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku charged Prof. Yusuf to use his vast experiences and contacts to effectively discharge the responsibilities of his office.

The Professor is by this appointment charged to provide Advisory services on community engagement related issues by identifying community-based organizations (C30s) for necessary interface with local communities, organizing creative programs and events regularly with relevant stakeholders of the local community with the goal of galvanizing support for the PDP candidate and ensuring victory in the election,.

He is also charged to build strong relationships with local community leaders, community-based organizations, gender and various age groups in the grassroots for the propagation of Atiku's plans and ideas so as to ensure acceptability and necessary support in the local communities.

Yusuf was the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Recall that the Professor of haematology-oncology and bone marrow transplantation and an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University had in an interview opined that it will be difficult for the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu to campaign in the Southeast.

He had written several articles in support of the candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar and has been generally seen as a strong supporter of the PDP candidate.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar is currently in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Perhaps they were bought, or perhaps they know some cost of standing up against the so-called lion of bourdillon. It was obvious watching the choreographed show at Eagle Square that uniting behind Tinubu is further proof of his autocratic nature, it was in no way a democratic exercise. If you read that line and thought, ‘what do you expect’ or that I’m revealing some naivety, please note that in always expecting the worst from Nigeria, all we have learnt is that there seems to be no low in how far this country can fall.



Both those who admire the man and those who detest him will tell you ‘Jagaban does not fight fair’ but now Jagaban is the frontrunner for President, and I find myself in the fight of my life.



Tinubu, in your acceptance speech, which I have read and sat with for a week, you use the word ‘democratic’. Why would the man who has had his hand on the throat of Lagos state and its institutions for over twenty years imply he believes in a democratic process? When Wikileaks sought to embarrass the US and expose their secrets they also exposed you, sir. When you chose Fashola to succeed you in Lagos you spoke behind closed doors not about his capacity to run the state, but of the man as a ‘faithful subordinate’. Yet as Lagosians we know you tried to cut his tenure short when he felt his loyalty to the people of Lagos, who elected him to represent them, preceded his loyalty to you. The requirements for being governor of Lagos - according to you - are loyalty and performance of your self-imposed duties. Who are you sir? I do not mean to engage with you or your supporters on your storied background- your alleged birth name, or birth date, or birth mother or education. I mean who do you think you are?



I Imagine whoever you choose as your running mate in the coming week will have already started the prayer and fasting for their protection to whatever deity they believe in - because history does not lie, and it does repeat itself. Your deputies never fare well. Your first deputy while governor of Lagos, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor- Akerele resigned after your first term in office calling you a ‘dictator’ and ‘mafia don’ who had amassed a *stupendous* amount of wealth. Of course the claims of Mafia Don are a callback to your time under surveillance in America and your court case in relation to the smuggling of heroin and your buying of property with the use of money earned through drug smuggling - but we can come to that later.



Femi Pedro, who served as Senator Bucknor-Akerele’s replacement also came to the most unfortunate fate - impeached at your behest so that he would not receive a dime of state pension owed him. This starvation left Pedro acting disgraceful,[1] after trying to take it to court in 2011 and having his case thrown out, his impeachment was only invalidated after coming to you begging like a homeless pauper. We need not infer this, because the Lagos State House of Assembly members who believed their primary role was to do your bidding came out and said “Pedro has shown much remorse and obedience, let’s pardon him to have his sanity back.”[2] Remorse, Obedience to the master - the defining factor in Lagos politics. Femi Pedro was impeached on the grounds of “insubordination and betrayal of trust and confidence” but you, the man who holds no ‘grievances or grudges’ as you so kindly noted in your acceptance speech, 8 years later, accepted him back into the fold, since then he has continued to follow about dutifully, casting his ballot at Eagle square as an APC delegate, no doubt, voting for the Mafia Don that broke his spine.



Logic dictates how you have strangled Lagos is how you intend to strangle the whole of Nigeria. You want us all to be Femi Pedro, hungry, destitute and in need of you, obedient to you.[3] But I am not a slave, I am a citizen, and so I must speak, lest you kill me and claim I enjoyed it. Have you tell it,our screams in Lagos are songs of praise for the all mighty lion - the lion who has sharpened his claws on our bones and now wishes to devour our children.



It is not your turn Tinubu, it is Nigeria’s turn.



Let us return to the speech - where you promise to build upon the foundations that Buhari has laid - in saner climes that would be viewed as a death threat to the general population. Under Buhari, Nigeria experienced its deepest recession in 25 years, the rising cost of food is untenable, food inflation rose to 18.37% in April and staple foods have now become luxury items. The money I could use to feed my family when Buhari entered power I can hardly use to feed just myself today. The World Bank has noted that Nigeria’s economy under President Muhammadu Buhari was worse than what it used to be 10 years ago, but we don’t need experts to tell us about our lived experience. The economy is in tatters - everyone living outside of the privileged bubble you reside in knows that. Yet you threaten us with a continuation of the status quo. “Emi lo kan”, you say, When will it be Nigeria’s turn?



At least 10million children are out of school, and ASUU strikes leave the youth of our country floundering, in the dark, striving to survive inspite of the willfull incompetence and wickedness of the men in power. Yet, your speech ignored this and spoke about the Zamfara Gold deposits- promising youths ‘jobs’. Surely, it mustn't be the one controlled by the black market and the Nigerian military? Perhaps in your free time you have discovered another one.



Nigeria's technology sector has grown in spite of the government’s involvement and not because of it. At every stage, the government has positioned themselves as roadblocks to the success of innovative, hardworking, and intelligent youths. When Tinubu speaks of building on Buhari’s foundations- does he mean the practice of freezing the accounts of Nigerian fintechs and harassing their executives into exile? A US report from foreign owned businesses[5] in 2003 claimed that Private investors were not ‘bullish’ on Lagos because ‘many claim that they have been requested to contribute to the governor in order to have projects move forward’ the governor of course, being Tinubu - this was twenty years ago, and you're asking for the keys to the whole country after mismanaging the golden egg for nearly thirty years.



I see how you and your ilk are preparing to syphon off the hard work of young Nigerians. Instead of proposing to build the infrastructure, security and economic stability required to facilitate growth in these areas. How many pockets must your hands enter before you are satisfied? The thought of Alpha Beta on a national level is cause for worry. It is no secret in the Fintech and finance community that but for the stranglehold of Tinubu and the monopoly of Alpha beta on the purse strings of Lagos state, (since the beginning of the fourth republic!) fintechs would have greatly increased our revenue generation. The monopoly of Alpha beta and the greed of one man has denied the average Lagosian of improved healthcare or a better intermodal transport system. Somehow during the EndSARS protests, the only court to burn to the ground in Lagos - the court in Igbosere- was the Courthouse that Housed the Alpha-Beta Complaint against Tinubu. Still, when young people were shot at the Lekki Tollgate, Tinubu said “Those who suffered casualty during the gunshots need to answer some questions” and called his current lapdog - the 56year old governor of lagos Babajide Sanwo-Olu- a “youth”. This asinine thinking, that a man who has spent over half a century on this earth is a youth- is probably the same line of thinking that has convinced the geriatric Tinubu he is fit for office.



Yet Tinubu calls himself enlightened - Does Tinubu appear to anyone as a rational, modern, and well-informed candidate ? Can a man in his 70s who views a 56yr old man old enough to be someone's grandfather as a youth, offer us a modern outlook which centres our current realities? Tinubu who stood on stage and told us his solution to insecurity in the country was to recruit 50 million youths into the Nigerian Army, and feed them cassava and corn. The worst part for me watching that is that the sycophants around him clapped wildly as a response to that statement and smiled. No one thought to say, that it was a stupid idea? An idea a 15 yr old in secondary school would not submit in his politics exam is the idea a presidential candidate is offering in all seriousness as a solution to our problems!



What is most frightening about Tinubu's statements are that although his public remarks display infantile thinking by the man, his prepared statements reveal that the team is filled with dimwitted sycophants. That is why the governor of Lagos has left Lagos on autopilot and turned himself into the shekere in a travelling band - singing the gospel of Tinubu from one place to another. It seems for the governor of Lagos, a whole state governor, loyalty to the Mafia Don is more important than integrity or carrying out his job. We are in such a stranglehold that Sanwo-Olu is not even bothered with his own campaign for governor. Sanwo, nigbawo ni e ti ri eko gbeyin?



Not only does Tinubu wish to turn Nigeria's presidential office into a retirement home for geriatric men - he wants us to fund his palliative care. In his acceptance speech Tinubu speaks of the future, yet his mind, body, and style of rule are firmly rooted in the past. According to Tinubu, it is his ‘turn’ to rule, the office of president is something he believes he is entitled to. According to Tinubu it is not time for progress, it is not time for growth, it is not time for security, it is not time for a working economy, it is not time to stem the fleeing of young nigerians, it is not time for us to emerge from these dark ages, it is simply Tinubu’s time to be president.



Tinubu wishes to continue this culture of state sponsored terror and state sponsored hardship Nigerians have been experiencing. In 2003, his final year as governor, he forced through a pension law that, among other things, provides him with a house in Lagos and Abuja, six cars to be replaced every three years and new furniture every two years, as well as a cook, steward, gardener, and other household help, all to be paid for by Lagos State. Yet it is estimated that over 12 million households in Lagos state pay more than 50 per cent of their yearly income on housing. Has it not passed the point where we say enough is enough?



The budget size of Lagos State is larger than the budget of many countries in Africa - yet what do we have to show for it - dilapidated and congested road system; massive flooding, decaying infrastructure, insecurity, and our own ‘Royal Family’. His daughter is the Iya-Oloja of Lagos, His son controls the billboards in the state (including the billboard that was shut off before the shooting began on October 20, 2020), His Wife is a senator for the state - yet to my astonishment Tinubu spoke of anti-corruption as he accepted his nomination to be the APC Flagbearer (and literally could not hold up the flag).



Even if one could argue that Tinubu is not corrupt, not incompetent, not autocratic, not an emperor, not vindictive, even if you could convince yourself of these things - he is still a geriatric regressive entitled old man with no plan for the country. The stakes are too high and the waters in this country are too turbulent for us to hand our future to someone without a steady hand. Now is not the time to gamble with our lives, as the world economy experiences stagnation and we hear warnings of a world recession looming. We cannot allow a man who is neither mentaly or physically fit for the task at hand to lead us.



Nigerians please, it is OUR time.
