Did you know. . ,

. . . that today, besides being Thanksgiving in the US
(Happy Thanksgiving!), is the anniversary of the discovery of
Tut's tomb (1922)? The tomb of the Boy King, Tutankhamen, was
discovered in Egypt by Lord Carnarvon of England and Howard
Carter of the United States. The find was called, "The greatest
archaeological discovery of all time."

For kicks, I say, let me try a Nigerian cake recipe but everytime I google Nigerian cake recipe, I am directed to this forum. Am like "gawd damn it, no matter how I try to stay away from this God forbidden site - I am coming back one way or the other angry angry

Thanksgiving is an emotional holiday. People travel thousands of miles to be with people they only see once a year. And then discover once a year is way too often.

I am baking this right now tongue
amaka1:

This one is a little more involved ( Separating eggs and all) butis guaranteed to be fluffy and light

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
7 egg yolks
3/4 cup cold water
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 to 3 teaspoons grated lemon or orange peel
1 cup egg whites (about 7)
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
PREPARATION:
Into a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in center of sifted dry ingredients; add oil, egg yolks, water, vanilla, and lemon peel. Stir with a spoon or beat on low speed until smooth.
In another large mixing bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until very stiff peaks form. Pour egg yolk mixture over whites, gently folding with a rubber spatula just until blended. Do not stir or beat.

Pour batter into an ungreased 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 325° for 55 minutes; increase heat to 350° and continue baking for 10 minutes longer. Invert pan over bottle or position between two pans or racks so the pan hangs without touching the table. Loosen sides gently with spatula to remove from pan. Frost with fluffy frosting or chocolate frosting, or a lemon frosting variation.

Happy Thanksgiving Narailanders

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

And for those who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, enjoy your meal today

Did you know. . .

, . that today is the Sierra Nevada Wagon Train Anniversary?
In 1844, the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy wagon party became the
first pioneer group to successfully take wagons over the
Sierra Nevada. The Party, guided by the Mountain Man Caleb
Greenwood, met a Paiute Indian named Truckee who showed them a
route over a desert to a river that flowed from a lake below a
pass in the mountains.
