Autos / We All Need A Good Workhorse, Right? by ercmediacorp: 7:26pm On Jul 27, 2020
With so many options available, how can you possibly pick the best one? And when you do pick, is it affordable? With ERC, you can find your top pick of salvage pickup trucks right from your home.

Ford F150

Lighter than some of its competitors, thanks to aluminum body panels, the F150 is still a fighting force when it comes to hauling and towing: the base model comes stock with a 290 horsepower, 265 lb-ft of torque V6 that can haul 1,990 lbs and tow 7,700. Those numbers only climb with available engine options, anyway. The twin-turbo V6 can tow 13,200 lbs. Capable, fast, pretty awesome all around. If you’re looking for salvage pickup trucks on the newer side, the Ford F150 is a fantastic place to start.

Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 is another top contender for salvage pickup trucks, thanks to an interior that is up to snuff with luxury SUVs and an ability to tow and haul that matches its competition. One of the biggest pros of the Ram 1500 is its suspension, with the added option of a four-corner air system. With a towing capacity ranging from 6,250 to 12,750 lbs, the base engine is a 3.6L V6 that pushes 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Upgrades include V8 options that bump you up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. It’s out-towed by the F150, but it’s more comfortable with a better interior.

Chevrolet Colorado

The Chevrolet Colorado is a formidable contender that, The base engine — a 2.5L four-cylinder is a bit on the weaker side, a 308 horsepower V6 and a 2.8L four-cylinder diesel (369 lb-ft of torque!) are available. The towing capacity of the four-banger is 3500 lbs, which isn’t exactly impressive, but the V6 and the diesel can tow 7,000 and 7700, respectively. The V6 has a 0–60 of 6.1 seconds, which, for a truck: not bad at all.

With a fuel economy of up to 27 city and 33 highway, the Kia soul is a safe, efficient, and roomy subcompact SUV.
2020 Honda CR-V

Not only that, but fuel efficiency is another factor with the CR-V averaging 32 mpg, making it incredibly fuel-efficient for a compact crossover. All that, along with low ownership costs, a myriad of tech and safety features, and a comfortable ride make the 2020 Honda CR-V one of the most reliable cars of 2020.

2020 Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry has been one of the world’s bestselling sedans since its introduction in 1982. With a standard 2.5L four cylinder engine that puts out 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, the Camry is certainly capable for its size and class. Add high scores on crash ratings, the new addition of optional AWD with the TRD trim, and an incredibly low ownership cost.

Autos / Why You Should Avoid Salvage Titles On Third-party Websites? by ercmediacorp: 4:51pm On May 22, 2020
Modern salvage car dealers have come to know and love third-party car classifieds websites such as CarGurus, where it’s easy to push salvage titles onto unwitting shoppers thanks to low price badges and other features that focus on the best deal in town. Salvaged cars can be made to look as though they’re perfectly good pre-owned vehicles (unless you know exactly what to look for), and even the titles can be made to look “clean” and non-salvaged. If you’re browsing for a used car, make sure to check your state’s salvage title laws to learn what to expect when distinguishing a real clean title from a salvage title. Being a Smart Used Car Shopper If you’re shopping for a used car, a certified pre-owned vehicle is almost always the way to go. These cars will have proper documentation to back up their quality and will typically be in a slightly higher price bracket than the bottom of the barrel for your car model of interest. The Upside of a Salvaged Car While we wouldn’t recommend salvage titles to just anyone, there are people out there that find value in a cheap car that’s been spared of its final tow to the junkyard. If you’re proficient with cars and know how to diagnose repairs, parts replacement and safety features, you may find that taking the matter into your own hands is worth the savings. A salvaged title doesn’t necessarily mean that the car will fall apart on the road — it just doesn’t guarantee that it won’t. The more knowledgeable you are about cars — particularly if you can do your own repairs — the more a salvage title may begin to have value. If you’re buying the car from someone you know and have full insight into the car’s history, as well as a mechanic you can trust, a salvage title might not be a bad deal either.

Autos / Insuring A Car With A Salvage Title by ercmediacorp: 12:54am On May 16, 2020
Original Article by Justine Suarez Answer Financial

Insuring a car with a salvage title isn’t as easy as insuring other vehicles because its condition (and value) can be challenging to assess. This article will share how salvage title vehicles differ from vehicles with a clean title & how calling Answer Financial may be a real time-saver when trying to get insurance quotes for a vehicle with a salvage title.

What’s the Problem with Salvaged Titles?

Unfortunately, because salvage titles vary so greatly from one state to the next, the condition of a car with a salvage title is somewhat of a mystery. Some states require these cars to be completely repaired and thoroughly inspected before they’re street legal again. Others allow for shoddy work or no work at all.

To make matters worse, in some states, people can clear a title by having repairs done or passing a basic inspection. People buy these cars not realizing the problems they’ll encounter trying to insure them later on. By checking the history of a car’s title through services like CARFAX or AutoCheck, or by running a check of your own through the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, you can determine whether you’re purchasing a vehicle that has ever had a salvage title, along with information on the reason why.

Denied, Overcharged and Underinsured

From a business point of view, it’s a legitimate concern for an auto insurance company to insure a vehicle it has previously declared a total loss. A totaled car is determined to be more costly to repair then to replace. This is a decision owners often fight because of loss in value and hassles involved in selling, financing or insuring the car later on.

Some insurance companies will agree to cover a vehicle with a salvaged title, but it comes at a steep cost. Often the rates will be higher and that negates the potential savings of buying a salvage title vehicle vs one that has a clean title. Furthermore, in many cases the insurance companies will offer liability-only policies that do not cover physical damage to the salvaged vehicle. In most circumstances, the cost of these policies just isn’t worth it, but there’s no need for despair.

Autos / Buying Salvage Cars? What You Should Know? by ercmediacorp: 6:55pm On May 04, 2020
Buying a car with a salvage title can save you a lot of money. If you have a goal to pay cash for your vehicles this is a little short-cut that can save you thousands of dollars in car payments, interest, and insurance. There are some tips to buying a salvage title that may help you get the best deal possible.
Advantages of Buying These Types of Vehicles
Save on Car Payments — Most likely you will pay cash for a car you buy in this situation. Funding on salvage title cars is non-existent. If you pay cash for your car you won’t pay a penny in interest.
Save on Insurance — With a car of this type you can forgo paying for full coverage insurance. This is because the insurance company won’t give you anything if you were in an accident that was your fault. They will let you buy full coverage insurance but they won’t pay out when you crash (nice eh wink). Pay less and get more — You can expect to pay much less for a car with a salvage title. If you don’t mind working on the body of your car and like sanding Bondo (a filler adhesive) you’ll be set to get a car for half off or more!
Where to Find Salvage Title Cars
Auctions — Insurance auctions is where you’ll find the biggest selection of salvage title cars. You need to go with a ‘buying agent’. These agents will have a used car dealership and will charge a small fee to take you to the auction. .
Friends and Family that have been in an accident. — If you know of someone that has been in an accident (and it’s not serious..cause you’re not a huge jerk) and the damage to their car isn’t that bad let them know you’re interested in buying it from them if the insurance company wants to total the car.
Classified Ads — Many times you can find salvaged titled cars in the classifieds. If you see a car that has a price that is too good to be true you’re probably looking at a salvage car. Make sure when you buy a car you always run the VIN number .

Autos / Used Car Scams And How To Avoid Them by ercmediacorp: 6:25pm On Apr 13, 2020
Avoiding a used-car scam is mostly about applying instinct and common sense, but it helps to go into it knowing some of the most common ways unscrupulous sellers try to get over on used-car buyers.
1) “Just Needs Freon”
If you go to your local Craigslist and start looking at used cars, it will not be long before you come across this one. The seller writes something like “A/C needs recharge” or “just needs Freon,” which is an admission the air conditioner is not working.
“Just needs Freon” more accurately translates to, “the air conditioner is broken.”
2) “Ran When Parked”
The seller will often add a phrase like “Needs an alternator,” indicating the vehicle’s problem can be easily fixed. But ask yourself this: If you wanted to sell a car that didn’t run and all it needed was an easily installed $100 part, wouldn’t you go ahead and make that repair so you could sell the car more easily and for a lot more money?
3) Odometer Fraud
There are two ways to discover this: The first is to use your own eyes and judgment, paying special attention to the level of wear on the rubber of the brake pedal, the steering wheel, and the seats. The second is to check the vehicle’s Carfax report, title transfers, and any available service records to cross-reference mileage.
4) Title Washing
If a vehicle has been destroyed by something like a flood, fire, or collision but is rebuilt to drivable condition, it is given something called a salvage title. This lets the buyer know that they are dealing with a car that has been destroyed, and are therefore taking a unique risk by purchasing it.To avoid this, research the vehicle’s history using the VIN to check its Carfax report and history of title transfers. If the story, or car, smells fishy, it probably is.

Autos / Understanding Common Car Titles For Damaged Vehicles by ercmediacorp: 5:58pm On Mar 27, 2020
Be it New York or Nevada, salvage car generally go for unbelievably low prices but the challenge lies in finding a deal that suits your prerequisites. The vehicles up for sale have different title brands, which also influences their market value. So, if you are planning to buy a repairable car, it is important to be aware of the different title brands.
Salvage
A vehicle may be given a salvage title due to a number of reasons, but the most common is severe damage. The title is generally given to cars that have sustained major damage and have been declared as ‘total loss’ by an insurance company. This usually happens when the cost of repair exceeds 60 percent of the fair market value of the vehicle, but that changes for every US state.
Flooded
As the name suggests, the flooded title is given to those cars that have sustained extensive water damage that will cost too much to repair or has compromised the safety of the vehicle. Before buying a car with a flooded title, conduct a thorough inspection to determine how extensive the damage is, and if the vehicle can be returned to operable status.
Reconstructed/Rebuilt
A reconstructed or rebuilt title is given to cars that have been extensively repaired or restored after being given a salvage title. Although vehicles with a reconstructed title are generally safe to be used on the road, it is important to remember that they may still retain their salvage title in some states, as the laws vary from state to state. So, if you are unsure about the laws in your state, contact your state’s DMV.

Autos / Shopping For A Salvage Car Is Like Going On A Treasure Hunt. by ercmediacorp: 8:23pm On Mar 25, 2020
There are amazing deals out there, and with the emergence of the Internet as a car shopping tool, you have every chance of finding a good deal on a rebuildable car that meets your needs and fits your budget. There are plenty of incentives to buy salvage instead of used and new: It will save you money on taxes and depreciation, which is the loss in a car’s value due to wear and tear over time. It also makes sense because cars have never been more reliable. It’s not unusual for most salvage vehicles to be trouble-free for well over 100,000 miles. Before we go into detail, here’s an overview of the steps you’ll need to take to buy a used car:
✅Set your budget. Decide how much you can spend on a car including the repairs to make road worthy.
✅Choose the right car. Pick the right model based on your needs.
✅Check reliability and ownership costs. Choose a car that’s less likely to break down — and won’t break the bank.
✅Locate good used parts. Search online classifieds or do it the old-fashioned way, by going to your local salvage yard.
✅Price the cars. Use pricing guides and find out what experts say the car you’ve chosen is worth.
✅Check the vehicle history report. Use the car’s vehicle identification number to see its history.
✅Contact the seller. Save time by calling the seller and asking questions before you take a look.
✅Negotiate the best price. Use the information you’ve gathered in your car search to agree to a fair price.
✅Close the deal. Whether you’re on the car lot or buying from a neighbor, you have to handle the payment and paperwork correctly.

Autos / I Am Thinking About Buying A Salvage Car..what Should I Do Next? by ercmediacorp: 8:51pm On Mar 18, 2020
In general, cars are given a salvage title when they have been damaged beyond around 75% of the original value or otherwise deemed a total loss by the insurance company. But this does not always mean that a salvage car cannot be repaired economically. Some salvage vehicles haven't been in an accident at all. In some states, stolen and vandalized vehicles can be given this distinction as well. Never buy a salvage car when you do not completely understand what happened to the vehicle, because that can make a difference in how it stands up to your intended use of it.
Know the Vehicle's Value
Owning a vehicle with a salvage title is just a little different from owning one that comes with a clear title. No matter how many repairs have been completed, even if it is restored to like-new conditions, the resale value will always be lower than a vehicle without the salvage title in its track record. For many owners, this isn't an issue because the savings upfront more than make up for this. A salvage title is one that sticks to a vehicle forever.
Get an Independent Inspection
It's a great idea to have a second pair of eyes to take a look at the vehicle. An independent inspector can let you know what issues may come up over the life of your vehicle and give you piece of mind that the car is suited for your expectations. If you have a mechanic you trust, or even an insurance agent who can recommend someone from his or her company, you don't need to go to the trouble of seeking out an inspector. Have someone knowledgeable that you trust give the vehicle a close checkup and give it the go-ahead before move forward.

Autos / Starting Your Own Business With Salvage Cars by ercmediacorp: 6:56pm On Mar 16, 2020
If you’re interested in flipping cars for a living, you gotta do it right. There are laws you need to follow that vary from state to state that will protect both you and your clientele. States have varying limitations on how many vehicles you can buy and sell. Oregon, for example, limits individuals from selling more than 5 vehicles in one calendar year, unless they can prove that the vehicles were “primarily for personal, family, or household purposes or for other purposes that the Department of Transportation, by rule, defines as constituting an exemption under this section.” Otherwise, you’d need to get a dealer license. Selling more cars than you’re allowed to without a license to do so can result in some pretty hefty fines or even jail time.

So, it’s decision making time: do you wanna flip a few cars a year to turn over a small profit on the side, or do you want to make it a full time job? However you do it, make sure you comply with all state laws and regulations to protect yourself and anybody you do business with.

Different places have different needs. If you live in a rural area, focusing on trucks, SUVs, and vehicles with towing capability may suit your market. If you live in a city, then smaller, reliable commuter cars may be in higher demand.

Spend some time browsing your city’s classifieds to see what people are buying and selling to help inform your decision. Talk to local car clubs and see if they have a necessity for parts for their vehicles regularly. If they do, you can use leftover parts from salvage cars to recuperate some of your costs.

Autos / What Selling Salvaged Cars Entails And How It Works by ercmediacorp: 9:45pm On Mar 04, 2020
Salvage title laws vary by state, but the general principle is the same: Once an insurance company determines that a car’s total damage exceeds a significant portion of its value — typically 75 to 90 percent — it labels the vehicle a total loss, and the department of motor vehicles (DMV) for the state slaps a salvage title onto the vehicle.

Most dealers don’t accept salvage cars as trade-ins, even after the salvage title has been removed. Salvage titles sometimes come with special designations for their type of damage, such as hail or flood damage. Cars can also receive a non-repairable designation, which means they’re incapable of being repaired and must instead be destroyed or sold for parts. If your wrecked car has successfully been fixed, however, and if it’s passed your DMV’s safety inspections, it can receive a new title with branding to show it’s still roadworthy.

If the car was stolen and had been missing for a month or so, the insurance company may pay off the vehicle and sell it to a salvage buyer, in which case the car may receive a salvage title. Selling a salvage car to an insurance company is one of the quickest ways to make money off it — but not the most lucrative. Typically, the insurance company’s settlement is low, so the company can profit from reselling the vehicle to the salvage buyer. As a result, you’re better off selling to the end consumer directly.

Newer salvage vehicles tend to sell better than old ones because the drivetrain components are more valuable. Many people also pay extra for niche salvage cars, such as Volkswagen Beetles or Porsches, since they may have a high repair or resale value and lots of rare parts.

Autos / Are Salvage Cars Worth Buying?? HECK YES!!! by ercmediacorp: 10:38pm On Feb 26, 2020
Millions of autos across the U.S. wind up in salvage (or “junk”) condition, meaning the vehicles are damaged, often to the point of no repair. That’s not to say all vehicles in salvage status are unsellable or unreliable. It is to say, however, that vehicle buyers ought to know the auto they are purchasing has been damaged to some extent. Knowing that going into an auto purchase deal, a buyer can make a more informed decision, and likely won’t be stuck with a lemon driving off the lot.

Pros of Buying a Salvaged Vehicle

⭐You’ll likely get it at a deal. Having a salvage title is a clear path to getting a discount when buying a vehicle. If you know what you want, know what’s wrong with the vehicle, and know what you’re doing under the hood (or know someone who knows what they’re doing under the hood), a salvage titled-vehicle can usually be bought at a significant discount.
⭐The vehicle may not be in that bad of a condition. Insurance companies place a salvage title on a vehicle for multiple reasons, including accident, flooding or fire. One overlooked, but very real reason an insurer pops a salvage tag on an auto, is that the previous owner asked them to do so. This happens after negotiations on a claim come to a point where the owner doesn’t want the vehicle anymore, and has the insurer take it away as a salvage model. Insurers, by and large, will gladly do so to avoid paying out a big claim that the insured owner might make.
⭐To settle quickly, you’ll get even a better deal. Once an insurer has a salvaged car or truck in its possession, it will likely want to get rid of it quickly. In any sales scenario, the urge for a quick sale means a big decline in the vehicle’s price, and that’s leverage a buyer can take advantage of.

Autos / Reasons To Buy Salvage Repairable Cars And Where To Get One by ercmediacorp: 8:47pm On Feb 21, 2020
Car buyers these days are becoming more and more cost-conscious, but finding a real bargain isn’t a walk in the park. If you’re on a budget, there’s an easy way to land great deals: shopping for salvaged, repairable cars for sale. A salvage title car is one with extensive damage that prompted its insurance company to deem it a total loss. Usually, a totaled vehicle is damaged to the point where the cost of repairs exceeds its market value. While most damage result from a collision, a car can be given a salvage title following a flood, hail, fire, or even theft. Contrary to the popular belief that totaled cars are almost entirely worthless, several salvage car websites such as Eliterebuildablecars.com offer repairable salvage cars for sale, that can be made road ready with some basic repairs and maintenance.

Exceptionally Affordable

A salvage car can be surprisingly cheap, yet you may need a few inexpensive repairs to get it back on the road. Many salvage-titled cars require minor body repairs or have small cosmetic issues, although they cost 30–40 percent less than their clean-titled counterparts.

Affordable Car Parts

If you’re accustomed to buying salvage cars from junkyards, chances are that you know where to get cheap original parts even for rare models. A totaled vehicle can be a cheap source of car parts for your fleet. If you’re looking to extract parts from them, be sure to inspect all the parts you need beforehand.

Great Value

A salvage vehicle certainly shines if you consider the value for every dollar spent. While you can purchase them for a fraction of the cost of a clean-titled counterpart, a repaired salvage often has little difference both in looks or how it runs.

Autos / The #ford #mustang #mach E by ercmediacorp: 9:37pm On Feb 10, 2020
There have been some major shifts in Ford’s line-up lately. They’re moving away from #passengervehicles and focusing on #crossovers, #trucks, and #SUVs. That doesn’t come as a huge surprise: larger #cars have started dominating the American auto market. Beyond that, they’re moving into #EV production. In late 2019, Ford announced the electric #F150 and the Mustang Mach-E. Let’s talk about the latter.

There’s been a crazy amount of hype around the announcement of the 2021 Mustang Mach-E. It shares some similar styling with the Mustang, but it’s an entirely new platform for the legendary #automaker .
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E will be delivered to early buyers towards the end of 2020, and other models will see delivery in 2021. The base price starts at $43,895 for the Select model, ranging up to $60,500 for the Mach-E GT. The GT comes with the Extended Range battery with an estimated range of 250 miles, and is only available in AWD. Ford claims that this model will put out 459 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque, with a 0–60 mph in the mid 3 second range. The GTs will be available in spring of 2021.

Other models, like the Mach-E Premium and the California Route 1 are available with RWD and extended range batteries, bumping EPA ranges up to 300 miles. If you’re looking at a model with the standard range battery, you’ll get an estimated 230 miles of range, which still isn’t bad. The top competing EVs of 2020 are coming in just under 260 miles of range, with the exception of Tesla’s Model 3 which comes in at 310. So, for a larger EV, a 230 mile range is a step up in range. That being said, the new Tesla Roadster has a (claimed) range of 620 miles, with a base price of about 4 times as much: $200,000. Just throwin’ that in there for reference.

Autos / In The World Of Salvage Title Vehicles, Not All Are Created Equal. by ercmediacorp: 9:02pm On Jan 27, 2020
The good news is that a Stolen and Recovered Salvage title is the safest option of them all and offer a variety of benefits to the buyer without the risks that are customary of other salvage title vehicles. To understand salvage titles and their risk, it’s important to understand first why a vehicle may have been given one.

Salvage vehicles are ones that are deemed a total loss by an insurance company for any of the following reasons: Collision damage more than the worth from an accident Flood damage (will be indicated on the title) Hail Damage Catastrophe Stolen and recovered

Unlike damage done from a flood or a collision from an accident, stolen & recovered vehicles are not necessarily deemed a salvage due to repair costs being more than the vehicle’s worth and often times are given a salvage title due to the time it took to recover the vehicle or because of each state’s regulations. In fact, many have little to no damage at all! Whether or not the vehicle was deemed a salvage through extensive damage or had none at all, a dealership or a private individual should be upfront and honest about it being a salvage title and why it was deemed that way. If they aren’t willing to be open and honest about it from the get-go.

A dealership that is selling a salvage title vehicle should be able to provide photos of the vehicle when they purchased it from the auction so you can see for yourself the condition it was in before they made any repairs. We highly recommend asking to see these pictures before buying it and if they are unwilling to show them to you, you might want to consider walking away from the deal.

Autos / Preparing For Winter Driving by ercmediacorp: 5:32pm On Jan 13, 2020
Winter is coming and you should prepare for it. Some states historically have strong winter, which can severely damage your vehicles if you are not ready. It is always better to be ready for this challenging weather before it hits than try to come up with solutions right in the middle of it.

You can usually spend a day getting ready, prepping for the hard winter and that will be more than enough to give you peace of mind. Unless you have a snowmobile, take your vehicle for its regular maintenance before winter hits. Make sure everything is working as it should. Check the breaks, hoses, liquids, chains, etc.

There is a lot of hail damaged cars that come from this weather. But let’s try to avoid the damage. Actually, a great number of salvage cars come from extreme weather.
Check. Recheck. Be Ready For The Winter!

Check and rotate your tires. You definitely don’t want to forget to check the pressure. Are the tires bald? That’s a big no-no — every for all other types of weather! If you live in an area with a lot of snow and ice, you might want to get tires with deep treads, perfect for icy roads, once they provide a better grip when you use your breaks.

That may seem too much, but you want to be ready. The goal is to go through the winter unscathed. And visibility is a huge part of that. Purchase winter wiper blades and get wiper fluid designed to break down frozen precipitation faster. That will help you with a better view.

Steps to Prepare For Winter:
— Put a “winter supply” box in your car;
— Check your engine coolant and antifreeze levels;
— Check your tire pressure and tread depth. Don’t forget the chain;
— Get proper tires;
— Use winter windshield wiper fluid;
— Switch to a winter-grade oil at your next oil change;
— Bring that emergency kit.

Autos / Pros Of Buying A Salvaged Vehicle by ercmediacorp: 3:51pm On Dec 16, 2019
You’ll likely get it at a deal.

The vehicle may not be in that bad of a condition. In that case, the vehicle may be in better shape than a buyer may think. That’s why it’s so important to know why a salvage title has been placed on a car.

To settle quickly, you’ll get even a better deal. Once an insurer has a salvaged car or truck in its possession, it will likely want to get rid of it quickly. In any sales scenario, the urge for a quick sale means a big decline in the vehicle’s price, and that’s leverage a buyer can take advantage of.

If you do buy a salvaged vehicle with the intent to rebuild, repair and resell it, don’t try to hide the fact that it actually is a vehicle with a salvage title on it. The buyer is bound to find out anyway when he or she tries to get the vehicle insured, inspects the title, or by accessing a vehicle history report.

Be upfront about a salvaged vehicle and you’ll likely have a cleaner, more honest auto sale experience

Autos / Protect Yourself From Salvage Title Fraud by ercmediacorp: 5:28pm On Dec 09, 2019
You always run the risk of being defrauded when buying a used or salvage title vehicle but there are precautions you can take to minimize your risk. Armed with the right information, you can protect yourself from dishonest dealers and sellers.

Salvage Process

Insurance companies issue a vehicle a salvage title by examining the damage. If the cost of the damage is at least 70 percent of the vehicles value the insurance company issues the vehicle a salvage title.

The insurance company then sends the vehicles to an auction where they are bought for parts or to resell. The dealer that bought the vehicles then decides if he would like to repair the vehicle or sell them as is.

Most dealers are honest and tell their customers about its history but the problem is that dishonest dealers sometimes try to sell a salvage title vehicle as a used vehicle without disclosing the vehicles history to its potential buyer. These dealers are often looking to make the greatest amount of profit possible.

Inspecting the Car

One of the best ways to protect yourself is to bring a trusted mechanic with you to inspect the vehicle. A trained eye will easily be about to notice if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

Water Damage

Carefully inspect the vehicle for any water damaged to the interior or exterior. Start by looking at the hard to clean areas such as door jams, engine compartment and trunk. Be sure to look under the seats for mud or rust and look at the carpets for any signs of a water stain lines. Also check the electrical connections, if they have turned a greenish color you will know water was in the interior.

Check the Vehicle History Report

To avoid becoming a victim of salvage title fraud, always check the full vehicle history report before you buy.

Autos / Everything You Need To Know About Salvage And Rebuilt Titles by ercmediacorp: 8:50pm On Dec 02, 2019
Buying a new car can be expensive, which is why many drivers look to purchase a reliable used car. Used cars are generally less expensive, but some deals may be too good to be true. If you’re looking at a vehicle with a salvage or rebuilt title, you need to know how these vehicles may be different than your average used car.

If you’re not well-versed in car mechanics, you may find yourself overwhelmed by repairs for a salvage vehicle. Plus, purchasing car insurance for salvage and rebuilt cars isn’t the same as buying auto insurance for other vehicles. Here’s what you need to know about salvage and rebuilt titles and the differences in insurance.
What is a salvage title?

A salvage title is generally given to cars that have significant damage, are labeled a “total loss” by an insurance company, or if the damage to a vehicle costs more to fix than the total value of the vehicle.

Salvage vehicle titles vary in each state so you should look into your state’s laws. In Colorado, for example, salvage titles are not given to cars that qualify as a collector’s item. In Ohio, salvage titles can be given to abandoned vehicles (even if they aren’t damaged).
Pros and cons of buying a salvage car

A car with a salvage title isn’t always in bad shape. However, if you’re not confident with car repairs (or don’t have the money to hire a trustworthy mechanic) you may be making the wrong decision buying a salvage vehicle. Let’s dive into the pros and cons to salvage title cars.
Pro: Salvage cars are a great deal.

You’ll likely save a lot of money when you buy a salvage title vehicle. Just remember to compare the cost of repairs and inspections over purchasing a typical used vehicle or even a new vehicle. A mechanic can help you understand how much repairs will cost for your car and if it’s worth buying.

Con: You can’t drive it.

A salvage title prevents you from legally driving the car. So if you’re itching to hit the road, you’ll need to do repairs and have your vehicle inspected to make sure it’s safe to be on public roadways. This can be costly, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you may not pass safety inspections (and spend a lot of extra cash for parts during the repair process).

Cars that can’t be repaired may be given a non-repairable title. A vehicle with a non-repairable title can be used for its parts, but you’ll never see it on the road.

Pro: The damage isn’t always severe.

You may think of a salvage car as a junk car that needs a lot of complicated repairs. This isn’t always the case. Think about hail damage or vandalism. Though the car may be damaged cosmetically, there’s nothing wrong with the engine or other more expensive parts. Since the car (in this example) is still operable, you can work on earning a rebuilt title to get back on the road. (We’ll talk more about rebuilt titles and how to get one later in this blog.)

Con: You may not have the entire picture.

Whenever you’re buying a used car, you can’t always guarantee that you’re getting the full story of any serious damage or defects to the vehicle. You can get a head start by searching for the vehicle on Carfax to learn why the car has a salvage title. If you’re buying the salvage car from a business, you can check the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints from other consumers who have bought salvage vehicles from them.

No matter how confident you feel in your ability to repair cars, you should avoid salvage vehicles with water damage or bent frames.

Water damage: Once a car is dry, you may think it’s good to go, right? Unfortunately, water damage can lead to faster corrosion of the vehicle, including its electronics and even air bags. While you may not be able to easily spot all flood damage, Consumer Reports suggests inspecting more visible features of your car first, including:

Carpets
Lights
Seat mounting screws
Exposed screws

If they look wet or rusty, there’s likely more water damage that you can’t see in the car.

Bent frames: Structural damage can usually be repaired by a mechanic, but it’s going to cost a lot of money. Most cars made today are built in “unibody” construction. When these cars experience structural damage, the entire structure is compromised, which can lead to additional problems with the vehicle and even become a safety risk.
Get a salvage car inspected

A third-party inspection with a trusted mechanic can help you determine if you want to purchase a salvage vehicle. These inspections usually can cost at least $100, but can help you understand if the car is functioning normally, any damage it has, and if you’re getting a good deal from the seller.

You can either hire an inspector to come on site to look at the vehicle, or take it to their garage for inspection. Getting an inspection can also help find major issues, including:

Frame damage
Poor repair work
Flood damage
Fire damage

Even an inspector can’t guarantee that they’ll find all issues with a vehicle. Some damage uncovers itself as parts are removed during other repair work.
Knowing your state’s Lemon Law

Lemon Law is meant to protect consumers from defects in products (not caused by the user), including new vehicles. Very few states have Lemon Laws for used vehicles.

For example, in Arizona, your used vehicle is covered by Lemon Law if a major component of your car breaks within 15 days of 500 miles of buying the car. However, you don’t qualify to return the car — only to get money for the broken part. Learn how your state handles Lemon Law.
Can I insure a salvage title car?

No. The salvage title means the car legally can’t be driven on public roads and insurance companies won’t cover it. However, once you’ve made repairs and passed inspections with your state, you can earn a rebuilt title for your vehicle and will be able to drive (and get limited insurance) for your car.
What is a rebuilt title?

Rebuilt titles are given to salvage cars that are repaired and pass inspection with the state. When your car has a rebuilt title, it means you can drive the car on public roadways and even sell the vehicle.

Autos / How To Register A Salvage Car by ercmediacorp: 6:29pm On Nov 25, 2019
If you’re buying a salvage car or any other salvage vehicle, there are steps you need to take before you can take it out on the road. Every state has different stipulations for what needs to happen before a salvage title vehicle receives a rebuilt title and is road-worthy again. Here, we’re giving you a general guideline of what you need to do to register a salvage car, but please look at your state’s requirements before making any decisions. Also remember that until a vehicle has been given a rebuilt title (again, this varies state by state), you cannot drive it on roads.

This isn’t always as easy at it seems. Every state has different requirements surrounding the purchase of a salvage vehicle. After you’ve figured out what you need to do – it’s time to start wrenching. Make sure you keep all receipts of parts and take photos of everything you do to repair the vehicle – it’ll come in handy when you take the vehicle for its inspection.
Check in with your state’s DMV to see what your state requires, specifically and keep in mind you can’t legally drive the car yet, so you’ll have to have it towed to the DMV. Any receipts for parts you’ve purchased are important here to prove that everything was acquired and done legitimately.
Once the inspection is complete, the inspector will attach a decal and/or provide paperwork indicating that the vehicle can now apply for a rebuilt title. Now you can apply for a rebuilt title, which means filling out paperwork and paying fees. Again, this varies state by state, so check in with your local DMV to see exactly what needs to get filled out.

We have lots of options, from salvage to clean titles across cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, ATVs, and more!

Autos / Are Repairable Vehicles The Right Choice For Me? by ercmediacorp: 5:40pm On Nov 18, 2019
Once you have decided to shop for a car, the first big decision you need to make is new, used or perhaps salvage. Most people have a very strong opinion on this topic. Typically it will come down to budget and personal preference. Some people would rather buy used because the large drop in value just by driving off the lot has already happened. Others prefer salvage because many salvage vehicles are in need of little repair. These vehicles are sold at a tremendous discount because the vehicles history has been tarnished. This does not mean it is a bad vehicle, it is for consumer awareness to notify others that the vehicle has been involved in some type of claim. Others prefer to only buy new because there is no risk of hidden issues not covered by a warranty.

You will always get more car for your money when buying pre-owned or repairable vehicles. The downside is that what you are buying has been used by somebody else and you don’t know how it was cared for. Whichever you decide, your goal is to get the best deal. If you decide to go the repairable vehicle route we have some important things you should consider.

Autos / You Bought A Salvage Car! Now What? by ercmediacorp: 5:30pm On Nov 11, 2019
Congratulations on buying a salvage car. You’ve done the research, evaluated the risks vs. the rewards and finally found the right car. You’ve arranged delivery and the vehicle has finally arrived. But now what?

You might have had different intentions when you originally purchased this vehicle, but now that it’s arrived, the options may be overwhelming. Do you fix it up? Do you create a custom build? Or do you just scrap the car for parts?

The most common reason why people buy a salvage car is to restore it. But before you begin, it’s best to get familiar with the process. Here are some general steps to follow before locking yourself in the auto shop for a few months:

Make a realistic timeline.
Identify the issues with the vehicle.
Document everything you do.
Meet with a mechanic or do it yourself.
Explore what’s under the hood.
Improve the outside.
Fix up the interior.

Car restoration is a big task to undertake, but with support, knowledge and a realistic idea of what to expect, it can be a very satisfying (and sometimes lucrative) project.

Sometimes fixing a salvage car isn’t feasible, and the parts end up being more useful than the whole. If that’s your case, you might consider harvesting your salvage vehicle’s parts for another car.

If you decide to repair or customize your vehicle instead of using it for parts, one thing you should know is when it’s legal for you to drive your car. Knowing your local laws regarding what is “street legal” can save you time and money when you’re fixing it up. Make sure to do the following before getting too far in the process:

Assess your build.
Get your car inspected.
Change the title from salvage.
Get it insured.

Repairing your salvage car doesn’t mean it’s ready for the road. Find out how to make your vehicle street legal.

Autos / Salvage Car Buying Tips by ercmediacorp: 5:15pm On Nov 06, 2019
Buying a salvage car can be a smart investment when you are in need of a replacement vehicle. While new car purchases have increased with the rising economy, salvage cars can provide a great alternative as long as you know what to look for.
With a salvage car, you can get the most bang for your buck. While this provides an opportunity to live more economically, a salvage car, by definition, has issues from collision, theft, flood or hail. Therefore, it’s important to avoid making these costly mistakes when you’re shopping for a salvage car.
Not Having the Car Checked by a Mechanic
Few have salvage cars checked out by mechanics before finalizing the deal.
Even if you have to pay for the inspection yourself, it could save you a lot of money in the long run. If the seller is a car dealer, chances are it’s already an offer, but make sure it is. If it’s a private seller, he probably won’t offer, so it’s important to ask.
Making Initial Negotiations in Person
If you are purchasing a salvage car from a dealership, it’s going to be the salesman’s main goal to get you down to the dealership. Once you’re on the dealership property, you are much more likely to leave with the car you’re interested in; it’s an easier sell for the salesman.
To combat this, ensure that you’ve done all of your research and comparisons at home, and try to negotiate over the phone or by email. It’s much easier to walk away when the car isn’t there, which gives you the upper hand in negotiations.
If you’re purchasing a salvage car from a private seller, chances are the seller isn’t a professional salesman. By mentioning a few salvage car statistics over the phone, it’s possible to gain the upper hand before seeing the car in person.

Autos / Buying A Salvage Car: Engine Checklist by ercmediacorp: 8:00pm On Oct 23, 2019
When buying a salvage car, inspect as much of the vehicle as possible, particularly the condition of the engine. Obviously, if the engine doesn’t work, the car is worthless to most buyers. It’s important to make sure that the engine is in good running condition. Here’s a quick repairable car engine checklist to inspect a used car before you buy it.

Instant diagnosis

If you can borrow, rent, or already have a car code reader: use it! Many code readers come with phone apps that instantly tell you what diagnostic codes mean. Scan ports are typically under the steering wheel. Just plug in the reader and look up the indicated codes to see what’s wrong with the vehicle.

Pop the hood
Make sure it stays up on its own properly before getting under it — and check for anything that stands out instantly: is it clean or is there grime everywhere? Do you see obvious damage or visible leaks?

Look for leaks —
Now take a closer look at the engine. Since leaks drip down — you may miss something if you only look at the engine from the top, so you’ll need to look underneath the car as well to look at other components. Look for remnants of fluid or anything that looks like it was recently wiped down. Pay close attention for leaks coming from the transmission or oil pan.

Start the car

Now’s a good time to start the car. Make sure you’re watching the exhaust as the car starts: If blue smoke comes out, that could mean valve seals are leaking. Have somebody rev the engine while you’re observing the exhaust, as well. Again, you’re looking for blue or white smoke.
Be thorough

You don’t want to get stuck with buyer’s remorse and a vehicle that’s going to cost you more than you thought it would in repairs. Make sure to look at all aspects of the car to ensure you’re buying a quality vehicle regardless of its age.

Autos / Knowledge Is Power, Especially When It Comes To Buying Rebuildable Cars by ercmediacorp: 3:48pm On Oct 07, 2019
Perhaps the most important knowledge is self-knowledge: Know what type of vehicle you want before you get started, understand your budget, and determine whether you know enough about cars to cut a deal with the seller.

Our little pro tip for repairable cars is to start with older CPO luxury brands, if your budget allows.

What you get in this market are cars with premium appointments and excellent build quality that have depreciated substantially from their new prices. They aren't necessarily better than mass-market cars, but they're often nicer.

My suggestion is to start your search here - some of the best overall deals around are on three-year-old luxury cars

Autos / New Car Depreciation VS Branded Title Vehicle Depreciation by ercmediacorp: 5:19pm On Oct 02, 2019
Buying a shiny, brand new car is a really attractive idea at first — until you get to realize how quickly cars lose their value, or depreciate, over the first few years you own them. According to Nerd Wallet, the average person owns 13 cars throughout their lifetime, and those cars usually cost about $30,000 each. But, if each of those cars were about three years old, you could save almost $130,000. That’s not a tiny number. Add that to the amount you could save in lower insurance payments for a repairable car versus a new car, and buying repairable cars sounds like a pretty smart idea.

But shopping for a rebuildable car isn’t as easy as walking into a dealership and buying one straight off the lot — it takes more planning and homework. Luckily, we have access to tools that makes salvage car shopping way easier than it was a few decades ago: the internet. Online tools like Kelley Blue Book, Carfax, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and www.eliterebuildablecars.com take a lot of the stress out of shopping for a repairable car.

Autos / What Is A VIN — And Why Is It Important? by ercmediacorp: 4:00pm On Sep 30, 2019
A VIN, or vehicle identification number, is assigned to a car by the automaker and reveals a range of details about the car, including its model year, country of origin, serial number and even where it was assembled. The VIN is a great place to start if you’re planning to buy a salvage vehicle and want to learn more about its history — or if you want to see if your car has any recalls.

A VIN is the key to unlocking a vehicle’s history.

The 17-character VIN that’s stamped on your car may seem like a confusing jumble of numbers and letters, but they hold a lot of info about a car’s past and present.

What does a VIN mean?

Each VIN is unique — think of it as a car’s fingerprint. Every car in the United States that has a model year of 1981 or later is required to have a VIN in the same standardized format. Vehicles made before 1981 had VINs, but their length and format varied by automaker.

Although the string of numbers and letters may seem random, there’s actually a code — with different characters translating into different information about the vehicle.

Autos / Play Detective When You Are Buying A Salvage Car by ercmediacorp: 5:25pm On Sep 18, 2019
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the car is usually located on the driver side lower end of the windsheild or driver side hinge post. Run a check with one of the paid services before you buy a salvage vehicle. Also, there are more limited services like the one offered by the Department of Justice, in addition to this one offered through an insurance consortium and vehiclehistory.com. They give you snapshots of the cars’ history include whether they were stolen, among other things. Some will also tell you in what state(s) the car has been titled in. However, some damages might not be in the free reports, so make sure to use at least one paid service if you want a more detailed and thorough report.

Look For Insurance And Police Reports

See if you can get the estimate from the dealer or individual that is selling the car. Often times that is a great source that will tell you exactly what was damaged in the collision. Also, get a police report, if it was in a collision or if it was stolen. That can give you more clues to the extent of the damage and the circumstances around the theft or collision. You can usually request that by contacting the police department where the accident occurred. They might charge you a fee, but it is definitely worth it. What you are getting here are the pieces to the puzzle. What exactly happened to this car for it to be declared a total loss? The fewer issues it has, the better for you as the person who is going to fix it.
