Bros, what happened to US public officials staying neutral in a country's political process? John Kerry came to Nigeria and made some statements that supported Buhari, I could remember vividly. I see the western media as an extension of the western imperial power. Their narrative always follows that of the interest of the American elite on foreign issues. It is only in domestic issues that you have pro-left and pro-right media. Mind you, media wasn't even in favour of Obi in Nigeria, it was mostly social media. How many pro-Obi articles did you see in Punch or The Nation?

I was talking about their media. Ours did but were few.

If their media was an extension of their imperial power, can we agree that the imperial power favoured HE Obi the most?

I very much agree they should stay neutral in every country political decision and when trump running mate mentioned something to this effect, I was happy because it'shigh time US starts minding her business.

Like most US tacit operations, they did not officially declared support for Buhari but their actions and declarations favoured him. Jonathan has spoke extensively on this and you can get tons of media reports on it. The US sabotaged Jonathan's fight against Bomo Haram. The US media wrote several opeds declaring that Buhari is a better candidate.

The same way their press wrote mostly in favour of HE Peter Obi. They just mostly follow the general public sentiments.

Jonathan spoke about their body language. One question: if HE GEJ had covered himself in glory, kept his party together that there was no Npdp, do you think APC would have been on power today?

You're focusing on the weapons buying and not on whom is blocking us from buying the weapons and still castigating us for not fighting boko haram. You guys are irredeemable.

What country are you staying?
Any proof or Wikileaks they stopped you from buying or do we argue this based on beer parlour gist?

Of course it was our responsibility that was why we wanted to buy weapons from you damnit and what did you do. You refused to sell the weapons to us and then you still went ahead to lend a voice to condemn us that we are incompetent when you're the major reason the girls could not be rescued. This is more like you shooting yourself in the leg grin how you guys still try to defend the USA on this really baffles me. Like grin grin nawa for una o
Oga, there are other countries you could buy from. You wanted to buy from SA and bungled it. Continue the blame game if it helps you sleep better at night.

In Nigeria's case, as a heterogeneous country, i truly believe resting too much power in the hands of one person will not work as there are too many conflicting powerful groups. True federalism is the ideal, yet the current political leadership have selfishly refused to implement that and they would not unless they are forced to by an event bigger than them. It could be a mass revolution that dissolves the current republic and forces a constitutional review. It could also be a temporary military coup with a transitional period where the entire structure is rearranged and elections follow.

But you cannot look at military coups and condemn them in totality. Some good have come of coups in other countries.

With our diverse cultures, tribes, etc. Coup is just a fairy tale unless you believe say a northern military officer won't kowtow to demands 9f the north. Do you believe this?

You're still buttressing my point. Civilian rule is far more corrupt than the so called military rule. When Buhari was incompetent he was removed by another coup of IBB. But in civilian rule you cannot even impeach a bad leader because both he and the senators are all eating the money together.

I'm not buttressing any point unless you did not read my post or deeply understood it. You stated civilian rule is corrupt and I countered it with 2 corrupt military rule.

Look at US that you have strong institution and compare Nixon gate.i stated severally that what democracy always needs to work is strong institutions and I also pointed out some of the ways we can achieve that. What I will agree on is that we are yet to have a leader with the will power to help us realise this.

So if the civilian government we have today won’t do the needful in amending and implementing an amended constitution who will?. You surely don’t expect the citizenry to, we have no power to in this god forsaken land. You recognise the problems but you refuse to think of what we need to do as collective peoples to create a solution we so crave for, no matter how radical given that we recognise whom and what stops us from having the country we so desire. You are comfortable with this abomination of a government because in your mind it’s better than anyone else. Stay comfortable, posterity WILL judge us all.
Getting all emotional solves nothing and for the records, I do not like in the slightest way, what our country has turned to but you need to acknowledge the army you so much hope will save you may grossly disappoint you.

Before BAT became the president, he was arguing that we need restructuring and now, no sign of that yet. The problem with the political class is the will power to effect the right changes and damn the consequences. For example, the federal character principle needs to be urgently addressed to bring out the best but no one would want to do so because a section of the country would get offended. Don't think the military would touch it with a long spoon.

Any take over by southern officers will definitely lead to a counter coup by northern officers and should northern officers take over, they'd want to maintain the status quo to please their people. You can take this to the bank.

True federalism, giving states power over their resources, strengthening state institutions remains our best options but who will bell the cat.

Currently tell me what the civilian government have done that the military didn't do?

Our civilian government is even worse than military regime. Looting, abuse of power, abuse of human rights, corruption and more corruption without doing anything for the people. In as much as the military regime is not what we want but bro civilian rule in Nigeria has been worse that military rule. The military built most of not all the federal roads and some roads have remained like that to now. Make we dey talk truth abeg.

This shows you know so little about what happened during the military. What happened to the gulf war oil windfall during IBB? It is being said mike adenuga became rich as a civilian IBB boy and so were his army cronies. Read up orka coup speech and tell me if he did not accuse IBB regime of unabated corruption. Was a governor not accused of being stupendously rich because he helped Abacha launder our collective wealth. In the military, once order is given, it is obeyed(OBC). They can steal everything and order the CBN gov to reveal nothing.

Dunno why you keep looking for a military rule. Strengthen you weak institutions through constitution amendment if need be. US has amended their's 27 times to tweak it to suit them and everyday, we keep crying how weak the 1999 constitution is, have constitution reviews that we won't implement. The military coming wont guarantee the economic prosperity you are looking forward to.

And how does this justify the USA after refusing to sell weapons to us and then stabbed us in the back with the bringbackourgirls campaign?
It's your responsibility to bring back your girls and they only lent a voice like some are doing in both Gaza and Ukraine case even if they can't send troops and in Gaza case arms.

In arms deal, GEJ bungled it up like SA deal. There are diplomatic channels to use and give assurance that it won't be used on your citizens. If need be, you pay a personal visit on this issue. Indira Gandhi did same for india so also did so in the past when india was having issues with Pakistan. Most people viewed GEJ as a weak and indecisive leader and it affected his performance in the election.

My question is why is a military regime looking like the only solution to our failed democracy, while in truth they are other ways?
A military junta is not an evil thing, it is a system of government that may work in other Nations, but would lead to dire consequences in Nigeria (I explained why I think so in my previous comment).

The truth is a very few insignificant number of uneducated people in Nigeria actually want a military take over, you can take your time and make a survey. A military government would not be favourable to the average ijaw man, the Igbo man, or even the average Yoruba man Nobody wants it.
what you need to understand is that Nigeria is in a state of crisis and in such a situation even a deal with the devil would sound very hopeful

I very well understand your stand but we've had the military since 1966 and we were no better off with them. In fact, they brutalized our collective psyche that one can easily threaten another with them.

What we need is strong institutions. If the military come in with our weak institutions, it'll still be business as usual.

You put embargo on us buying weapons from you or you said you are not selling weapons to us , same you went ahead to block our buying of weapons from another country. Still same you started the bringbackourgirls campaign lying to the entire world that the government was incompetent or unserious about fighting boko haram when infact you are the one(USA ) who has frustrated every effort to aquire weapons to fight boko haram. Last last we had to go to Russia to buy weapons which was what was used even by Buharis government in fighting boko haram.

Yet one idiot one to come and defend the USA again.
The SA deal was done using the proper channel.

why is it that anytime the topic of democracy being bad for Africa comes up, people only think of a military regime as a replacement?

are some of you guys that narrow minded or are you just looking for a way to paint the issue red?

In Nigerian for example, a military regime would be much much more corrupt and rotten than what we have now, because the political heads and godfathers are still the same people in charge of the military. Every proper Nigerian knows this.

There are other systems of government that can be very practical in Africa. Or better we don't have to follow the examples of foreigners we can invent our own system of government...

The truth that you see anytime you read the news is simple "Democracy is hypocrisy"

The answer is simple: the military juntas that overthrew elected officials in Africa were applauded. Even in Nigeria, some people wanted a military take over when HE peter obi lost to BAT at the PET. No one is currently bringing up any other option to the table.

Toppled your leader Tinubu and appoint General Buratai as head of state. Block of all access to the west, chase chevron and other foreign oil exploration company and leave it to the incompetent NNPC to handle.
Our resources and gold is for the people. Let the people mine it. It's better for factions of bandits to clash over these gold than foreigners.
Nigeria is very rich if we cut off the US and western countries we can easily sell to China and Russia who is looking to sell theirs too. Place all Nigerians into state owned farms to work hard, we will have self-sufficiency from agriculture just like Pol pot of Cambodia.
Yeah and if people die in their millions, it's expected because we are even over populated!
We don't need the west we will face our own problem and solve them!
