Health / Madagascar Starts COVID Clinical Trials by ewomazino2017(m): 2:02am On May 06, 2020
Madagascan president Andry Rajoelina has announced that clinical trials will start today (May 4) with COVID-Organics. A factory will also be built within a month to boost its production.
The president disclosed the developments during a national address on Sunday during which he extended the state of health emergency in the southern African island nation by 15 days.

According to him, the trials were in partnership with foreign researchers. “A pharmaceutical factory will be set up within a month to increase the production capacity of CovidOrganics. It will be administered in other forms such as injections,” Rajoelina posted on Twitter.
The antiviral properties of Artemisia – the anti-malarial plant at the base of COVID-Organics and its role in building immune capacity have been proven, he added without giving details.
“Thanks to this discovery, international researchers and doctors have proposed the construction of the largest cancer center in Africa in Madagascar,” the president disclosed.

The herbal tea/concoction continues to sharply divide opinion among those that say it needs more attention and others who are dismissing as an unproven ‘solution’ to a malady the world is still grappling to get a grip on.
The profile of the drug has been boosted after about half a dozen African leaders publicly endorsed it and requested for consignments. The Malagasy government has so far been distributing it for free in the country and all shipped consignments are for free.
Presidents of Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Comoros, DR Congo, Senegal and the Republic of Congo have congratulated Madagascar for their bold step in combating the rampaging global virus.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday recorded 148 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of infections in Nigeria to 2,950.
NCDC announced this on its website on Tuesday night.
“On the 5th of May 2020, 148 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
“Till date, 2950 cases have been confirmed, 481 cases have been discharged and 98 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory
“The 148 new cases are reported from 16 states- Lagos(43), Kano(32), Katsina(9), FCT(10), Zamfara(14), Taraba(7), Borno(7), Ogun(6), Oyo(5), Edo(3), Kaduna(3), Adamawa(2), Gombe(2), Plateau(1), Sokoto(1), Kebbi(1)”

The Bauchi State Government says four out of the six index patients of Coronavirus in the state have tested negative and have been discharged.
The state’s Deputy Governor Alhaji Baba Tela, who is also the Chairman of Bauchi State Task Force Committee on COVID-19 and Lassa fever, disclosed this on Thursday in Bauchi.
According to Tela, the state as of Thursday, April 16 has only two patients at its isolation

Sixteen COVID- 19 patients undergoing treatments at the Lagos State isolation centres have been discharged .
Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, made this known via his Twitter handle on Thursday.
This, the commissioner said , has brought the total number of discharged patients in the state to 85.
He tweeted, “ 18 new cases of #COVID19 Infection were confirmed in Lagos on 15 th of April , 2020.
“ The cheering news, however, is that 16 fully recovered #COVID- 19 patients have been discharged following further screening that confirmed their status negative.
“ The total number of discharged #COVID19 patients in Lagos is now 85. ”
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had on Wednesday evening announced that 18 new cases were recorded in Lagos.
The NCDC said , “ Thirty - four new cases of #COVID19 have been reported as follows: 18 in Lagos, 12 in Kano , two in Katsina, one in Delta, one in Niger.
“ As of 11: 20 pm on the 15 th of April , there are 407 confirmed cases of #COVID- 19 reported in Nigeria. 128 have been discharged with 12 deaths.
“ Number of states with confirmed cases of #COVID- 19: 19 + FCT . Currently, Lagos has 232 cases, FCT- 58, Osun - 20, Kano - 16 , Edo - 15 , Oyo - 11 , Ogun- nine, Katsina- seven, Bauchi- six , Kaduna - six , Akwa Ibom- six , Kwara- four, Delta- four , Ondo- three, Enugu- two, Ekiti- two , Rivers -two ,
Niger- two, Benue- one, and Anambra- one .”
