Culture / Yoruba Oba Adopts Igbo Monarch’s Attire, Asks Other Obas To Emulate Posture by ewuzie7: 5:02pm On May 26, 2018
The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun state, Oba Abdurasheed Akanbi has called for integration in the country through inter-ethnic dressing by traditional rulers.
Demonstrating this call, the Oba, who had recently been criticised by members of the public for adopting Emir title, wore full attire of Igwe amidst his subjects and insisted that he should be addressed as “Igwe of Yorubaland. “
Oluwo said, ” I’m wearing Igwe dress to demonstrate my unrepentant insistence on oneness of Nigeria as a father to the nation. Nigerians should integrate through occasional multi ethnic dresses. Other Obas need to adopt the system to promote unity.
“The adopted state of origin is a threat to our unity. Nigerians should be Nigerians in Nigeria. The certificate is divisive. As a Nigerian, you should be able to contest for elective positions anywhere in Nigeria. Ethnicity didn’t permit this. Traditional rulers have role to play. I’m leading this and will continue to”
“Palace is a rallying point and general place for every Nigerian. It jumps political, religious, ethnic and economic barrier. Everyone, irrespective of your location should be able to approach any palace and make your request. Palace belongs to Nigerians not certain ethnic class”
“Unlike Mosque and Church where Muslims and Christians have respective exclusive access to, palace should accommodate everyone whether you are Muslim or Christian, Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo. As fathers to the nation, we left no alternative than to make our palaces accessible to all Nigerians and be prompt in the intervening in any brewing issue before germinate to external crisis.”

– They were given a grand welcome by Governor Rochas Okoracha

– He also gave them cash gifts to them alongside BamBam and Teddy A who accompanied them

Earlier on, Easternreporter.com reported the news of how Miracle and Nina were given a grand welcome in their hometown, Imo state. They also honoured the governor, Rochas Okorocha, who hosted them at the government house.

However, they got more than a grand welcome at the state government Exco chamber. The governor also promised to give scholarship for his Commercial Pilot License and a plot of land to the captain Miracle Igbokwe in any choice place in the state to enable him return home and build a house of his own, adding that Miracle had made the state proud by emerging the winner of the show.

He had this to say: “We are gathered here to welcome our son who has made us proud. Miracle is our son who went to South Africa for the Big Brother Naija Show. He spoke well of his State and was a good ambassador of his State. For this, we thought, it is proper that we receive him”.

The governor explained that “Usually, our State does not engage in receiving people for outings they have made, unless we consider such an outing one that has positive bearing to the image of the State. One thing outstanding is that these two great participants, Miracle and Nina spoke highly of Imo State. They stood tall and proud of their State, in South Africa. This is the reason for the honour and to say welcome back home”.

Crime / A General Overseer Of A Popular Church Arrested For Defiling 9 Year Old by ewuzie7: 12:57pm On May 03, 2018
A General Overseer of a popular church in Shomolu area of Lagos, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

The victim (names withheld) who alleged that the suspect had been having carnal knowledge of her since last year, said that the last act was done in the suspect wife’s shop located on Bakonle street.

The victim’s mother, Mrs Peace Effiong, told police policemen at Pedro division in Shomolu Shomolu division that she became suspicious after the primary school pupil began to behave unusual.

She stated that on April 13, 2018, while her daughter was sleeping, that she observed liquid substance suspected to be semen dripping from her daughter’s virginal.

Upon interrogation, her daughter according to her , revealed that the General Overseer, Pastor Udoh Okon had been having carnal knowledge of her.

Subsequently, the suspect was arrested. During interrogation, the Lagos State Police Command boss, Imohimi who paraded the suspect before newsmen yesterday, said ” The child victim went further to revealed that it was in the Pastor’s wife’s shop at Bankole street, Famous Bus-stop, Shomolu, that she was defiled.

Upon interrogation, the suspect denied the allegation. However, medical examination conducted on the girl revealed that her hymen had been ruptured long ago, an indication that the suspect had been having carnal knowledge of her long before the discovery.

“With the foregoing, I hereby reiterate my call to parents to keep an eye on their children as the Command will not hesitate to arrest negligent parents and prosecute them in accordance with relevant sections of the law, particularly, section 247 and 249 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015” .

But the suspect denied culpability. He explained rather that: “ As I stepped out of my compound yesterday, I saw people gathered and decided to go and see what was happening.

I saw happiness( victim) kneeling down and carrying a brick in his hand. When I inquired what happened, her brother said someone told their mother that somebody in the compound had been sleeping with his sister.

I cautioned her mother not to beat her in public . Only for me to be roped into a matter I knew nothing of. She used to go on errand for me and usually carried my bag home anytime she saw me returning.

They only saw her taking empty bottles of soft drinks from my room outside . “Why would I sleep with a girl that is old enough to be my grand daughter? Her parents know those that are responsible . Before the living God that created this day, if I have ever slept with her may my life never see light.

They should have extracted my semen to see if it matched with that found in her virginal, that way the truth would have been established.

This woman( victim’s mother ) is conniving with my enemy to bring me down. I have been a Pastor for 30 years without any scandal . May my life be taken away if I did it.”

As he was being led away, he told some members of his congregation who visited the command when news of his arrested filtered round, to go an pray to God to vindicate him, even as he told them he never committed the act.

Sports / Champions League Win Would Make Salah A Liverpool Legend – Jamie Carragher by ewuzie7: 2:03pm On May 02, 2018
The former Reds star is backing the Egyptian to take Jurgen Klopp’s side past Roma and into the final in Kiev

“It’s the hope that kills you, isn’t it?”

Jamie Carragher is smiling as he looks forward to Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final, second leg in Rome. Behind the smile, though, there is something else. One per cent, 5%, 10%; whatever it is, it’s there. That tiny, lingering doubt.

He knows about the pessimists, he knows that there are Reds fans who have made the trip to Italy fearing the worst. He will have friends and family in the crowd at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night. Not all of them have travelled with confidence.

Well, why would they? After all, their side are only 5-2 up from the first leg. Roma ‘only’ need a three-goal victory to ruin the party.

Simple, eh?

“It’s natural for a football fan to worry!” Carragher tells Goal in an exclusive interview. “And with the position Liverpool are in, I suppose you feel you’ve got so much to lose now too.”

Carragher will be at the game summarising for Norwegian TV, but he wishes he was playing. Big European games were where he, Steven Gerrard and co made their names with Liverpool. The club’s history was formed, to a large degree, by their exploits on the continent.

Now, Jurgen Klopp and his side can take up the baton. Liverpool have not been to a Champions League final since 2007. This is their first semi-final appearance since 2008, and the first time they’ve been past the group stage since 2009. Going all the way to Kiev, and potentially putting European Cup No.6 on the sideboard, would be huge for this thrilling, but far from flawless, group of players.

“It’d move the manager towards legendary status, and a few of the players too,” Carragher says. “Rightly so, too.

“It’d be great for the club, and for the fans more than anything. It’s not been the best decade for us really, but special clubs always come back. They always do something you don’t expect. This is a special club and there is something about the Champions League that brings that out.

“To think we could have an opportunity to win a sixth European Cup, it’s unbelievable really. We’re not Real Madrid or Barcelona. We can’t buy the biggest players and we don’t have the most money. We’ve not even been the biggest in the Premier League over the past 10 or 20 years. We’ve had to be clever and build teams without household names.

“So to think of a city in the north west of England with…what’s the population of Liverpool? Half a million? Less? So to have six European Cups wouldn’t be bad, eh?”

He’s not wrong. Liverpool, though, know that there is still work to do. Klopp spoke at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday about “being ready” and about “being prepared to lose in order to win”. He knows the job is not done yet. Those two away goals Roma scored at Anfield have ensured that.

Carragher, though, is confident. He fancies Liverpool to score, as they have done in every one of their Champions League away games this season. They managed two in Hoffenheim, seven in Maribor, three in Seville, five in Porto. They said they would score at Manchester City in the quarter-finals and they did. Rome should hold no fear.

“I can see it being a tough game,” Carragher says. “But what you’ve got to remember is, Liverpool haven’t lost in the Champions League all season, and they don’t lose many games full stop. People say we’re a bit soft or we concede goals or whatever, but we don’t get beat often – and we have to lose this one by three if we’re to go out.

“And, well, you’ve got to fancy Liverpool to score, haven’t you?”
Indeed, especially with Mo Salah in the kind of form he’s been in. The Egyptian was unplayable in the first leg, his two goals taking his tally to 43 for the campaign – a remarkable record.

“It’s unbelievable,” Carragher says. “There are so many new stats coming out about him, every single week. He’s breaking records from the 1930s and the 1940s!

“The great thing about it is he does it every week. You can have players who score hat-tricks or four in a game, then they don’t score for five games. He scores virtually every game!

“People are comparing him to Suarez when he was here, who would you rather have and all that. But what Salah has over Suarez, for Liverpool, is the big games he’s scored in.

“Suarez is probably a better player all round, but for a one-off season there can’t be many who have had a season like this in the history of the club.”

Again, he’s right – though he is quick to point out the elephant in the room. Good seasons have goals in them. Great ones have trophies.

“When we had Suarez and Torres, we thought they were as good as anyone around,” he admits. “But when they eventually left the club, they only left with ‘he was a great player’. They didn’t actually take the team to something.

“Salah could take the team to a European Cup, and if he does that he’s a Liverpool legend. When you win a big trophy, everyone is a hero. But there are always a couple of players who you know have dragged you to it. Salah would be a legend inside one season, and right up there with some of the greats in the club’s history.”

Those are big words from someone who played 737 times for Liverpool, but Carragher is similarly enthusiastic in his praise for another of Liverpool’s star men.

“I love Firmino,” he says. “He’s probably my favourite player! What Salah is doing is ‘wow’ but I love watching Firmino play; his touch, the way he links the play, his strength, his working back.

“And I can’t believe that some people still say we need a centre-forward! I hear pundits on TV saying it and it’s like, ‘Oh my god!’ He’s got 27 goals! And he’s not just a penalty-box striker. He doesn’t take loads of penalties.

“It’s because of Messi, Ronaldo, Salah now. They’ve changed the way people look at strikers and their numbers. But that’s not normal, what they’re doing! If you’ve got an attacking player getting 25 goals, and doing everything Firmino does besides, then you’ve got a great player.

“I think he’s arguably Klopp’s most important player, for how we press, what we do. He’s just brilliant.”
Carragher is keen, too, to talk up the role played by the manager in Liverpool getting to this stage.

“He’s a special manager,” he says. “He gets pigeon-holed. He’s seen as a motivator, he whips the crowd up and the players run round like headless chickens for him. It’s a load of nonsense. You don’t manage at that level, with different clubs, and get the performances he gets, without being a special manager.

“Of course a big part of it is his character, his enthusiasm. You’d imagine the players love him, and that is rare. You may respect your manager, but I think these players respect him and they love him.

“I’ve enjoyed being in his company when I’ve had the chance. He’s a great character, you can see why players would love to play for him. I definitely would!”

It promises to be some night. Alex Ferguson famously spoke about Liverpool and their “f***ing perch” but victory (or a 2-0 defeat) would have the Reds back up there, dreaming of glory.

Klopp urged his players to “fight for our dream” on Tuesday. We will soon know if they were listening.

Politics / Afenfere Faults President Buhari’s Statements On Herdsmen Killings by ewuzie7: 1:46pm On May 02, 2018
Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement on herdsmen killings during his visit to the White house.

Buhari had told Trump that herdsmen so not carry guns but only wielded sticks and occasionally Machetes. He also blamed the death of Gaddafi for herdsmen crisis in Nigeria.

He was quoted saying “The problem of herders in Nigeria is a very long historical thing. The Nigerian herders don’t carry anything more than a stick and occasionally a matchet to cut down foliage and give it to their animals, these ones are carrying AK-47.

“So, people should not underrate what happened in Libya. 43 years of Ghaddaffi, people were recruited from Sahel and trained to shoot and kill. With the demise of Ghaddaffi they moved to other countries and region and carried the experience with them.”

Reacting, Afenifere in a statement by its spokesman, Yinka Odumakin said the President disappointed Nigerians by absolving Fulani herdsmen of involvement in the killings, stressing that he spoke as “the patron of Miyetti Allah, not as the President of Nigeria.”

“Buhari should not have gone to the international stage and say Fulani herdsmen don’t carry AK 47; that destroyed everything for the President.

“This is why Afenifere said he should make a choice between the Presidency and being the patron of Miyetti Allah. He spoke in America in defence of Fulani herdsmen as their patron, not as the President of Nigeria and that is conflict of interest,” Odumakin said.

Odumakin further faulted the US president’s statement on the killings of Christians in Nigeria.

He described Trump’s advice to Buhari as good admonition, noting however that it was not only Christians that were being killed.

Speaking on Buhari’s approval for recruitment of 6,000 Policemen, Afenifere dismissed the president’s announcement, stating that it would not make much difference to the security situation in the country.

Politics / Supposed Church Of Satan Attacks Buhari Over St Ignatius Catholic Church Killing by ewuzie7: 7:29am On Apr 27, 2018
US-based Church of Satan has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari for describing the recent killing by Fulani herdsmen as Satanic.

President Buhari while Reacting to the killings said on his Twitter page“I extend my sincere condolences to the Govt and people of Benue State, the Mbalom community, and especially the Bishop, priests and members of the St Ignatius’ Catholic Church, whose premises was the unfortunate venue of the heinous killings of worshippers and two priests by gunmen.

“This latest assault on innocent persons is particularly despicable. Violating a place of worship, killing priests and worshippers is not only vile, evil and satanic, it is clearly calculated to stoke up religious conflict and plunge our communities into endless bloodletting.”

However, the Church of Satan, which has its head quarters in US, described the Nigerian President as ignorant for using the term “Satanic” in describing the killing.

They took to their verified official twitter handle to lambast Buhari for allowing the killings due to his incompetence.

They wrote, “President Buhari is ignorant. Infighting between two different Abrahamic religions is just that, theists killing theists.

“It has nothing to do with us or Satanism – a life cherishing atheistic religion.”

Education / OAU Sex Scandal: Investigation Period Elapses Today As Mgt Awaits Report by ewuzie7: 1:25pm On Apr 18, 2018
The one week period of investigation into the sex-for-marks scandal involving a senior lecturer of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Richard Akindele and a female undergraduate of the institution will elapse today.
To this end, authorities of OAU are expected to receive reports and recommendations of the probe panel set up last week after the new of the scandal hit the social media.
The professor at the Department of Accounting of the university was said to have demanded five rounds of sex from the female student before he could pass her.

The university’s image maker, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju confirmed that the one week investigation duration would expire today (Wednesday).

Olanrewaju had said that the accuser, simply identified as eniola had refused to show up before the probe panel to defend her case.

Also, the lady was said to have refused to write a formal complaint report to the institution to defend the leaked audio that has continued to generate reactions from members of the public.

The panel had issued a query to the accused lecturer before some media reported that he went into hidden in shame.
But Easter Reporter had reported that the 62 year old Akindele had summoned courage and resumed class for lectures last Saturday.
Eastern Reporter gathered that the professor and pastor was spotted in an MBA class handling MBA645 (Human Resource Management) between 10-11am last Saturday.
One of the embattled lecturer’s students said the lecturer was agitated at the beginning of the lecture but he later summoned courage as the lecture progressed.
“He appeared agitated when he came in but he later got settled and everyone was flowing with his lectures. He is actually a good lecturer.”
Meanwhile, lecturers at the university had demanded that their management should make the findings of the panel public saying that the scandal had put a heavy moral burden on them.

Sports / Bundesliga Set To Make History In Modern Day Football by ewuzie7: 4:43pm On Apr 17, 2018
Mainz’s league match against Freiburg could be set for a place in the record books.
Just before the whistle was blown for the half period, Mainz had an appeal for handball but was turned down by the referee Guido Winkmann, with the scores still at 0-0. Winkmann then blew for the break, allowing the players to go in for half-time – only for the VAR official to give the handball and award a penalty.

Following a delay of almost five minutes, Freiburg’s players had to be summoned from the dressing room after it was ruled that Daniel Brosinski’s cross had been handled by Marc-Oliver Kempf. A total of six minutes and 44 seconds after the first 45 minutes were up, Pablo de Blasis stroked home the spot kick to put his side a goal up and to allow both teams to head back off the pitch for the remainder of half-time again.
De Blasis was on target again in the second half, sealing a 2-0 win for Mainz when his shot at an open goal bounced in off the post in the 78th minute. Mainz now has ended their own six-game winless run in the process.
The VAR system actively being used in the Bundesliga this season has not come without controversy as it has been at the heart of numerous disputed decisions.

Education / E-learning: Prospects And Challenges. by ewuzie7: 7:52pm On Apr 09, 2018
E-learning: prospects and challenges.

Chidindu Ejika.

In the 18th century, long before the Internet came into existence, people improvised several means of educating others. The likes of Isaac Pitman, through correspondence taught his students short-hand. This process of distance leading was done through mails. He would send mails containing corrections or previous works done by his students and also new works to these students, and they would reply same way with finished works.

Over time, people continued to devise other means to satiate their curiosity in different fields and impacting knowledge into others. Fast-forward to the invention of computers in the 20th century, learning took a distinctive turn. With different institutions and countries adopting the use of computers in learning, which has, no gainsaying invariably aggrandized teaching and learning processes. The Western countries have long adopted, implemented and has since steadily bolstered the use of computers in learning, which includes the use of the Internet and other Information and communications technology, ICT.

Today, not only have educational institutions appropriated the use of the Internet in learning, business enterprises, government organisations and several others have taken the advantage of this tool to further disseminate and acquire information and knowledge. Distance learning has become among the fastest growing sectors, estimated to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide. Educational institutions across the world have invested in distance learning, offering certifications on certificate courses in countless fields and areas of study. Interested participants could, from the convenience of their homes and or their offices access these facilities through their computers and or mobile devices.

The success of e-learning in developing countries has been grappled with the lackadaisical approach and diminutive interestedness of both government and individuals, despite the growing concern over the use of ICT resources in the educational sector. Thus, has led to the dearth of the basic technological tools and participation. Most students in secondary schools and other institutions of higher education in Nigeria do not have full access to use of computers; this has resentfully set back computer literacy across the country. Furthermore, evident in the measly 7% of the Nation’s budget allocated to education.

In Nigeria, the attention to educational technology has been glaringly infinitesimal, despite the well-established and wide-ranging mobile and satellite phone network, especially when in comparison with other countries in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa.

With a mobile phone penetration rate at barely below 40%, it’s evident that the accessing of educational facilities through the Internet from communities in Nigeria would be a poor stride, in defiance of the approximated increase to 23 million users by 2019. Regardless of these snags, several Nigerians have shown dire interests in e-learning, hence, leading towards the development of local e-learning facilities. With the likes of tutor.ng, vocabularyachool.ng, prepclass.com.ng and others, who have shone a light on the need and success of e-learning in Nigeria.

Culture / 2019: Ohanaeze Splits As Nwodo’s Loyalists Attack Youth Congress by ewuzie7: 3:13pm On Apr 04, 2018
The leadership of Ohanaeze Youth Wing in South South on Tuesday dismissed comments credited to Ohanaeze Youth Congress about President General of Ohanaeze, Chief Nnia Nwodo.

OYC, had in a statement issued on Monday accused him of mortgaging the interest of Ndigbo.

The OYC’s statement followed its meeting held in Enugu, where it passed a vote of no confidence on Nwodo, who they accused of sidelining other members of the Ohanaeze National Executive Council.

Reacting, Chief Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, Coordinator of Ohanaeze in South-South, described the claim as baseless and false.

He claimed that those parading themselves as national leaders of the youth wing of Ohanaeze were misleading the public.

Arthur-Ugwa said: “We were surprised that some defunct members of Ohanaeze Youth Wing issued a statement accusing the President General of meddling into 2019 presidential elections.

“To state the facts, the allegations are fabricated by expelled members of the youth group at the national level to attract public sympathy; there is no truth in the allegation.

“The President-General has been working at uniting Igbos all over the world and recently was in Bayelsa as part of his efforts in restructuring and repositioning Ndigbo in a restructured federation.

“Nwodo also waded into leadership crisis in Ohaneze Ndigbo Bayelsa chapter, is this what they call politics?

“The President-General categorically said that he was not interested in personal gains from the struggle for restructuring, so the allegation is a mere ploy by disgruntled persons parading themselves as Ohanaeze youth leaders.

“The National Executives of Ohanaeze Youth Wing was dissolved by Ime-Obi and National Executive Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in 2017 and we are getting set for elections later this month, so they are misleading the people.

“The leadership at the state levels in the South East and South South condemn and dissociate ourselves from the statement and frown at the disrespect to our revered elders and leaders in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, our parent body.

“We urge the errant youths to refrain from using the media to discredit the organisation and show commitment towards building of a united front for Ndigbo.

Culture / I Can't Help Those Who Hate My Swags, Oluwo Tells Critics by ewuzie7: 5:47pm On Apr 03, 2018
Embattled Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun state, Oba Adulrasheed Akanbi has said that he has the right as a king to bear Emir and other kingship titles in Nigeria like Obi/Igwe, Attah among others.

Oba Akanbi has been enmeshed in controversies following his adoption of Emir title at the last weekend.

The traditional ruler had denied abandoning his Oba title after condemnations trailed his comments.

But speaking on a radio programme on Rave Fm in Osogbo on Tuesday, Oluwo said "how can you abandon who you are? Can you abandon king for king? Oba is our own word. I am an Oba and I will remain Oba for life. I only said I can also be referred to as an Emir. I am the Emir of Yorubaland, I am the Igwe of Yorubaland and the Obi of Yorubaland."

"I can bear all titles of kings. We have to upgrade and update our traditional culture, else, we will go into extinction," he added.

He said he was starting a cultural revolution and that was the reason he would wear Emir regalia sometimes. He said whenever he adorn in this regalia, he is trying to make a statement.

He said this revolution he started would make Emirs and Sultans wear 'agbada' like a Yoruba and see every one in their domain as subjects who they would be responsible for.

He said northern traditional rulers admired his Emir regalia when even he puts it on but expressed concern that he was not getting support from Yoruba Obas and people.

He said some people have bad bellies against him stressing that he couldn't help them because they had succeeded in more popular.

"By saying that I can also be addressed as Emir, I talked metaphorically. But some bad bellied people are condemning me and telling lies against me. My enemies are making me known. God is using my enemies to promote me.

"Some people don't like the way I add swags. I can't help them. I want to upgrade our culture. I promote ofi dress and Emirs love my dressing."

Politics / Winnie Madikizela Mandela Dies At 81 by ewuzie7: 7:24pm On Apr 02, 2018
Winnie Mandela, the ex-wife of South African anti-apartheid fighter and former president Nelson Mandela, has died.

Winnie died in a Johannesburg hospital after a long illness on Monday at the age of 81.

Born on Sept. 26, 1936, in Bizana, Eastern Cape province, Winnie became politicized at an early age in her job as a hospital social worker.

Winnie was married to Nelson Mandela for 38 years, from 1958 to 1996, but her husband spent most of their marriage behind bars for his political activities, which made him a symbol of hope for millions of black South Africans seeking their rights in a country dominated by a racist white minority.

Once known as “the mother of the nation, Winnie Mandela’s legacy as an anti-apartheid heroine was undone when she was revealed to be a ruthless ideologue prepared to sacrifice laws and lives in pursuit of revolution and redress, her fall from grace began around the time of Nelson Mandela’s release in 1990, when she was implicated in brutal behavior by the Mandela United Football Club, which she founded.

She was convicted of kidnapping and assaulting a 14-year-old who was beaten to death by members of the club. Madikizela-Mandela was given a six-year sentence that was eventually reduced to a fine.

Her uncompromising methods and refusal to forgive contrasted sharply with the reconciliation espoused by her husband as he worked to forge a stable, pluralistic democracy from the racial division and oppression of apartheid.

The contradiction helped destroy their marriage and destroyed the esteem in which she was held by many South Africans, although the firebrand activist retained the support of radical black nationalists to the end.

In her twilight years, Winnie had frequent run-ins with authority that further undermined her reputation as a fighter against the white regime that ran Africa’s most advanced economy from 1948 to 1994.

During her husband’s 27-year incarceration, she campaigned tirelessly for his release and for the rights of black South Africans, suffering years of detention, banishment and arrest by the white authorities.

She remained steadfast and unbowed throughout, emerging to punch the air triumphantly in the clenched-fist black power salute as she walked hand in hand with Mandela out of Cape Town’s Victor Vester prison.

For husband and wife, it was a crowning moment that led four years later to the end of centuries of white domination when Nelson Mandela became South Africa’s first black president.

But for his wife, the end of apartheid marked the start of a string of legal and political troubles that, accompanied by tales of her glamorous living, kept her in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Culture / Calls For Dethronement, Condemnations Trail Yoruba Oba’s Adoption Of Emir Title by ewuzie7: 5:59pm On Apr 01, 2018
Hours after a traditional ruler of Iwo town in Osun state, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi declared his resolve to drop his Oba title and adopt Emir, the development has caused controversy and intense subject of concern among the people of the state.

Concerned discussants of the traditional ruler's strange decision on social media, most of whom are Yoruba indigenes, have condemned the adoption of the Emir title saying Oba Akanbi was dragging Yoruba culture to the mud.

Some of these critics demanded that the monarch be dethroned by the state government.

In a statement made available by the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW) on Saturday, Oluwo's decision was described as embarrassing to Yoruba people and culture.

The President of the Yoruba Council, Aremo Dotun Hassan who released the statement said Oba Akanbi should be stripped of his 'Oluwo of Iwo' stressing that Akanbi's decision is a monumental taboo.

According to the Yoruba Council of Youths, " It has come to our notice that His Royal Majesty Oba now turned "Emir" Abdulrasheed Akanbi Teluwo, The renamed Emir of Iwo Kingdom has succeeded in dragging the obaship ethos into the mud of disgrace by changing history today 31st March, 2018. We laconically frowned at these monumental errors and unpardonable damage to our common patrimonial heritage.

"Alas, we believe there is more to this new premodial trend. We hope this is not clandestinely motivated to annex the entire Yoruba Land with the then declaration by the North claiming ownership of the whole of Nigeria as their property, and throw us (Yorubas) into the dungeon of slavery.

"This sacrilageous and treacherously motivated acts could be likened to the woes brought by Afonja to the ilorins in kwara state, considering the current state of the nation, emersed in trouble waters in the face of sporadic invasions and threats by the Hausa Fulani's hegemony to takeover our land via wanton killings and destruction of lives and properties.

"We see this diatribe as a postulated script towards the fruition of this evil agenda, under the preconceived ideas and misguided yoke of promoting Islam and Northern alliance, which predicated upon the conspiracy of silence handwriting seen on the wall, we cannot isolate and absorb the Government of Osun State from these ineptitude and unfettered myths of oppression and subjugation by Northern interest against the sovereign rights of the (Yoruba people) Southern parts of Nigeria, by ensuring to forcefully annex us through this ill motivated crafted means of taken over our land.

"It is rather heartbroken to see a our common heritage been robbed and slaughtered without caution by the new Oba Oluwo, whose antecedence ever since his assumption as the Oluwo of Iwo has succeeded to bury our eternal "isese" traditional practices via burning down of all major shrines and deities of the Iwo kingdom in a Pharaohic style.

"However, by this singular embarrassing acts by the  Oluwo, we call on the Iwo Council of Obas, Osun State Council of Obas and All Obas of Yoruba Land to call the Oba turned Emir to Order. While we revert and denounce the conferment of Sheikh Yahquub Abdul-Baaqi Mohqmmed as Waziri of Yoruba Land is totally unacceptable and hereby declared null and void.

"We hereby categorically demand that if the Oba has lost total respect for tradition and particularly the highly referred stool of Iwo and Yoruba Land, having accepted to be guided by the Northern rules, a huge abomination and taboo( Epe NLA)hence, he Oluwo should be striped off of his title as the Oluwo of Iwo Kingdom," the statement reads.

The group therefore asked Governor Rauf Aregbesola to call the monarch to order.

For a Facebook user, Afeez Gbadamosi, Oba Akanbi should be called to order saying "this is cultural genocide. I seriously don't the logic behind this. He should be called to order before he main our highly revered culture further."

Another Facebook user, Olamilekan Abdulgafar Ogundele, who commented on the official Facebook page of  Oluwo described the decision as shameful.

Ogundele said, "what a shameful decision! This needs to be ridiculed and dethroned immediately."

Nonetheless, some other Facebook handlers who commented on the message Oluwo posted on his wall announcing his adoption of Emir title, hailed him.

Eatsern Reporter had reported on Saturday that Oluwo, whiks speaking at the installation and turbarning ceremony of an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahquub Abdul-Baaqi Mohammed as first Waziri of Yoruba land held in his palace said he decided to bear "Emir of Iwoland" because he wants to emulate the attitudes of northern Emirs.

According to Oluwo, Northern traditional rulers are better behaved than his counterparts from the Southwest saying Yoruba Obas are full of bickering, acrimony and enmities.

He said Yoruba traditional rulers lack cooperation and expected royal characters saying the Yoruba Obas have been polarized owing to enmities.

Oba Akanbi said until Yoruba Obas come together, shun enmities and backbiting, Hausas would continue to rule Nigeria.

"I have decided to officially adopt Emir title today because I want to emulate the attitudes of Northern Emirs. They don't begrudge themselves like Yoruba Obas.

" It will surprise you to discover that for the past two years, there has not been meeting of Yoruba traditional rulers just because of enmities. There is nothing strange in adopting Emir title. I am the Emir of Yorubaland," Oluwo said.

Education / We Fear Remanded OAU Students May Cause Crisis On Campus If Released – VC by ewuzie7: 10:31pm On Mar 26, 2018
The Vice Chancellor Of Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede has expressed fear that the five students currently languishing in Kosere prison might retaliate by causing crisis on campus once they were released from the prison.
The VC made this known while reacting to the case of the five OAU students remanded in prison for alleged assault of Moremi Hall Warden after they failed to meet their bail conditions of grade 11 civil servant.
Ogunbodede said the students were arraigned by the police and not the university.
He added that the male students were found at Moremi hall, a female hostel in the morning around 10am of which they should not be there, let alone allegedly assaulting the hall warden.
He further added that the university was trying to renovate hostels but the students opposed it.
The school had evicted some students from their hostels on campus before the students protested the action.
But the VC described the students as being irresponsible.
He said, “The school would not produce students who are not ready to obey the laws of the institution. We did not arrest them but the Police did and they should be accountable for themselves while the school management would be accountable for everybody but as the management we are only accountable to responsible students,” he said.
“If they are remorseful we would make sure they are released but we don’t want a situation whereby they would be released, they will now start beating up everybody and cause chaos in the school environment because they have done it before,” he added.

TV/Movies / Bbnaija: Tobi Emerges New Head Of House, See What He Did. by ewuzie7: 5:13pm On Mar 26, 2018
Tobi Claims Fourth Head Of House Title.

As the third season of the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija enters another eviction week, Tobi Bakre has emerged the new head of house.

Tobi’s victory came after he won the head of house challenge given to them by big brother on Monday afternoon.

Biggie told the ninja to drop envelopes around the house with majority of it having a try again message. Inside one of the envelopes however was a “HOH Winner” message while one had the “HOH Clown” message.

Some minutes after the ninja left, Biggie told the housemates to embark on the search for the envelope that contained the “HOH winner” tag by picking not more than 15 envelopes.

After the search was over, the housemates gathered in the lounge and were told to start revealing the content of their envelopes. While nine housemates found only try again in all the envelopes they picked, Bambam picked one of the envelopes that had “HOH Clown”.

Tobi proved to be the lucky one as one of his envelopes had the “HOH Winner” printed on a paper inside. He therefore became the new head of house for the week, his fourth time this season.

Tobi was then asked to pick his choice partner for the HOH suite and returnee Khloe was his choice, overlooking former love interest, Cee-C and friend Alex.

Trust big brother, no one knows what he is planning as Bambam’s HOH Clown pick remains undefined. Fingers are crossed.

Sports / Rohr Gives Super Eagles Verdict As Moses Reacts To Penalty Call by ewuzie7: 3:09pm On Mar 26, 2018
Rohr Gives Super Eagles Verdict As Moses Reacts To Penalty Call.

Technical Adviser of Nigeria’s Super Eagles insists the 2013 African Champions are no World Cup favourites despite beating Poland in an International friendly on Friday.

The Eagles who were without the services of Captain John Obi Mikel ran out 1-0 winners against their Polish opponents who were wasteful in front of goal.

Friday’s victory came on the back of a friendly win over Argentina last year and many football followers have been installing the Super Eagles as Favourites for the Russia 2018 World Cup but Rohr wouldn’t want his team to get carried away and has played down such talks.

“We were lucky to have won this game against a very solid Polish side,” Rohr after the game.

“They created some big opportunities to score and were dangerous from set pieces that we found difficult to cope with but I praise my team for their victory.

“This team is a young team but also a team of leaders. If we stay humble and continue to work hard to improve our play we have huge potentials, but beating 2 FIFA top 10 teams in friendlies doesn’t mean we are now World Cup favourites.”

Meanwhile, Victor Moses insists Nigeria truly deserved to be awarded a penalty during the game against Poland.

Referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot after Moses went down under a simple challenge while in the box of the hosts. He went on to convert the penalty which turned out to be the winner but many feel it was a wrong call but Moses won’t buy that.

”For sure it was a penalty when I was fouled, the referee made the right decision. It was a good win for us,” Victor Moses said at the mixed zone.

”Poland has many good players. They attacked especially well after conceding the goal, but we showed more character today.

”We wanted to enjoy the game and simply win. We believe that during the World Cup we will manage to go as far as possible.”

Nigeria will next face Serbia in London on Tuesday.

Crime / Police Investigate Alleged Killing Of Commuter by ewuzie7: 11:33am On Mar 23, 2018
The Police Command in Enugu says it has commenced investigation into the alleged killing of a commuter by an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday that the incident took place at about 10 a.m. on Thursday.

NAN reports that it took the intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Danmallam and other top functionaries of the state to restore normalcy to the New Market Road.

Danmallam’s arrival saved the situation as commuters were all trapped as angry residents barricaded the New Market Road.

Briefing newsmen shortly after calming down the protesters, the commissioner described the incident as unfortunate.

He said that the police would not allow anyone to jeopardize the peace in Enugu State.

“What happened is very unfortunate, especially with the peace we are enjoying in the state. This kind of thing should not be allowed.

“Investigation has started. We asked people who witnessed what happened to come forward and give us discreet statement, which will help in our investigation.

“We are assuring them that whoever is involved is going to be brought to book.’’

A witness said that trouble began when a bus driver allegedly stopped and picked a passenger from a spot that was considered unlawful and when NSCDC officials accosted him, he zoomed off.”

“The bus was chased by the NDSDC officials in a tricycle and it burst into flames when it felled into a ditch.

The spokesman of the NSCDC, Enugu State Command, SP Denny Iwuchukwu, said no gunshot was fired on the commercial as claimed by the protesters.

“We have a directive from the state government that nobody should pick passengers along that road.

“So, when the driver stopped to pick passenger, our operative told him that it was wrong for him to do that.

“As our man entered the bus, he zoomed off with him. So, other officers on ground chased after him and in the process, the bus fell into the ditch.

“We chased after the vehicle because he drove off with our man. However, no gunshot was fired,’’ he explained.

The killing sparked protest by residents of Ngwo community, Enugu.

Crime / Ex-convict Jailed 10 Years For Stealing Pot Of Soup In Osun by ewuzie7: 4:26pm On Mar 20, 2018
A 27 year- old man, Akeem Onaolaji has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for breaking into a canteen and stealing a pot of soup, pieces of meat and fufu.
Onaolaji, an ex-convict was said to have burgled some shops in Osogbo and carted away other items worth of N105,700.
When the case was called for hearing, Onaolaji who recently finished serving a jail term on stealing at Ilesa prisons confessed to the court to have stolen pot of egusi soup with some pieces of meat and fufu from the canteen.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun while addressing the court said the accused committed the offence sometime in the month of December, 2017, 20th of January, 2018, and February 23, 2018 at Temidire Estate in Osogbo.
Fagboyinbo said Onaolaji unlawfully entered into the shops of some traders: Oginni Oluwasogo, Risikat Aderibigbe, and Bashirat Yusuf and carted away the items.
The items stolen include one wooden shelves, three pillow cases, and one dressing chair total valued #84,000 property of Oginni Oluwasogo.
Other items include one gas cooker, rubbers of rice, rubbers of beans and other items total valued N21,700 property of Bashirat Yusuf
But the court discharged and acquited the accused person on the count 6. According to the prosecutor, the count 6 was that the accused person stole one and a half carton of baron valued N2,600, one pack of 1960 origin, half carton of Joven valued N3700, one carton of Erujeje valued N3000, a carton of Seaman schnapps valued N19,300, two cartons of Chelsae valued N13,200, one carton of trophy valued N4,000, one carton of kronenbourg valued #4,000.
Other items allegedly stolen in the count 6 included one carton of bottle of chelsea valued N7,000, three bottles of mark dowel valued N10,500, two bottles of best valued N1,000, two bottles of brandy valued N1,200, two bottles of schenapp valued N2,000, ten pieces of origin valued N3,200, four bottles of origin valued N3,200, one bottle of 1960 origin valued N1,800, five cartons of soft drink valued N4,750, three cartons of Pepsi cola valued N3,000, six bottles of big cola valued N8,400 total valued N94,650 property of Risikat Aderibigbe.
Inspector fagboyinbo said the accused person had committed an offence contrary and punishable under sections 413, 390(9), and 515 criminal code cap 34, volume II laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the six counts but since the prosecution did not prove count 6 beyond reasonable doubt, the court discharged and acquired Onaolaji on the count which the prosecution alleged he stole items worth N94,650 but convicted him on other five counts.
But there was a mild drama in the courtroom before Magistrate Tunde Badmus could give his judgement.
The accused’s mother stormed the court and started shedding tears. She knelt down and begged the court to set Onaolaji free claiming that he is under spell.
Speaking in Yoruba language, the aged woman said, “please, my son is under a spell. There is no way he could steal pot of soup if he was alright. Please, release him for me to take him to healing homes.”

Politics / US Supports Ranching As Solution To Fulani Herdsmen Crisis In Benue by ewuzie7: 6:14pm On Mar 19, 2018
The United states of America has reacted to the Fulani Herdsmen crisis plaguing Benue state and has expressed support for Ranching as a solution.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom’s advocacy for the establishment of ranches for cattle rearing recently received the support of the United States of America Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington.

The US Ambassador who visited Governor Ortom at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi, said if cattle are properly reared in ranches instead of open grazing, Nigeria could be one of the highest income earners from milk production.

“I come from a family of farmers and part of my family used to move cattle from one state called Colorado to another state called Texas every year and over time they changed until now the cow business that they do is very much one that takes advantage of the land and we have to move them on trucks.

“I had a great conversation the other day just outside the city of Jos with one of the great milk producers of the world, a company that produces milk. And I talked to the guy and he was mentioning to me that the milk that comes from the Fulani cattle can be incorporated into the great milk produced here. Literally the future of the nation could be rich when the milk of those herders get fed to the sons and daughters of families and their vegetables get fed to the sons and daughters of the herders. I am happy that you are thinking in this direction Mr Governor”, the US Ambassador stated.

Governor Ortom thanked the Ambassador for the visit and solicited the assistance of the United States in the realisation of the move for ranches across the country, stating that it is one reliable way of guaranteeing peace in the country.

“Let me on behalf of the government and people of Benue State welcome you to the Presidential wing of the Benue Peoples. I appreciate your visit. We were glad when we learnt that you are coming to visit us because we look up to America for a lot of things. Today the Presidential system of Government that we practice, we borrowed it from America.

“I have been advocating for ranching which I know America for the rearing of cattle instead of the grazing that we have in Nigeria today. Because of the shortage of land, the issue of grazing has become a major security challenge, especially in my state. Frequently, there are clashes between farmers and herdsmen because the land is not there and my people are mostly farmers so they find the herdsmen encroaching and trespassing on farmlands and thus destroying their crops and when they are confronted, it will become a fight and we have lost so much.

“I have been calling for the establishment of ranches just like it is done in America. Most of us look forward that our Government at the Federal level and the state level will come together and find a lasting solution because this crisis is not only peculiar to Benue State. There are other states too that are affected. But to me, I see that ranching as it is done in America can solve the problem permanently because the land is not increasing but the population is increasing.

“When there were grazing routes in the fifties, the total population of Nigeria was less than forty million. Today, by the 2012 projection, we are over a hundred and seventy million and by 2017, I am sure we will be hitting two hundred million. So it is a big challenge. While we want to support the herdsmen to graze and to rear cattle, it should not be at the detriment of lives and property of our people. And so you are welcome.”

Governor Ortom also highlighted other areas of collaboration between the Benue State Government and the United States:

“America has been supporting us in several ways. USAID has been of great assistance to my Government. Before I assumed office, they were about leaving the state but I invited them to come back for dialogue and since then, they have been of tremendous help to us” the Governor stated.
