Politics / Re: What Measures Are The Northern Elite Taking To Tackle The High Level Of Illitera by Exciton(m): 4:06am On Aug 01, 2017 |
freshest4live: QueenOfNepal is right and you're wrong. The error in your reasoning is confusing higher degrees or any degree for an education. The most important purpose of an education is to give you the ability to process information from your environment and apply critical thinking skills to make a decision or form an opinion. If you're unable to acquire this, even after a PhD, your behaviour is subject to popular opinion, to prejudices, to bias, to stagnant cultural beliefs, to whatever the media, religious and political leaders tell you. One of the key diff between developed and developing countries is simply this fact: evidence based decisions -- they teach their children to form opinions themselves in a rational way; most learn this even before high school. Thus, even if they decide to acquire vocational skills for blue collar jobs, they still have the minimum critical thinking skills to avoid low-level manipulation. If the North wants to advance, they need to crack down on Islamic clerics disseminating hate and misinformation, occupy the minds of the vulnerable masses with work (agric, mining, manufacturing etc), empower the kids with critical thinking, and very important: work with media (movies, news etc) to build new ideals for the society (empathy, a strong focus on love, curiosity, exploring one's environment in a scientific manner etc) all in a bid to make the populace less violent... it's also manipulation but for the greater good The South needs this almost as much as the North though. 2 Likes 1 Share |

The upper class are just a little bit more enlightened than the rest... but still at a shitty level. It's the reason why they don't mind driving the latest cars on roads filled with potholes and waste filled open drainages on either side. Same reason why even the poshest parts of the country aren't comparable to the blandest of cities in the developed world. 2 Likes 1 Share |

davien: A thousand years is too far. Social behaviour of a group changes on a far shorter timescale. E.g. dressing styles before and after Islamization in many Islamic countries, how quickly we dumped our ancestors religion, system of government, feeding habits etc. Don't mind the savages. Homosexuality will become a fully acceptable sexual orientation in the nearest future -- 100 years max in Africa. In the far future, ideas that seem impossible will be accepted by our great-great-grandkids e.g. new concept of love that involves more than 2 people, having more than 2 biological parents, women having no need for a womb & not having to go through child birth, body modifications being readily available etc. All this further blurs the line between sexes and ultimately leads to an androgynous society. . It's an inevitable outcome. It's good to read Sci-fi novels once in a while. |

LaEvilIMiss: Haha! Nigeria is the tyrant's heaven. The tryant's thoughts: I just have to give them a false sense of freedom, a well controlled social media, where they can rant all they like -- not too much to form a resistance, but just enough to feel better. I shall rely on their natural sense of humor to make jokes of their suffering. It's fun, addictive and even therapeutic for them. I oppress them, they go online to rant, they assure themselves that there's hope, feel better... repeat. As long as I control the media, judges, religious leaders etc, the real power belongs to me. carammel: So, according to your logic, it's better for the poor couple to pop out another kid than to hustle 1600 per potency period of the drug? The extra kid (or kids over the years) will surely cost more than N1,600 to care for over the same period (of drug potency). Like I previously mentioned, it's these kinda poor decisions stemming from lack of critical thinking that's the problem. |
Sports / Re: Why Do Blacks Succeed In Power/speed Sports but Less In Other sports? by Exciton(m): 12:54am On Jul 17, 2017 |
EZEIGBO1OFIMO: Hehe. Of course I fully disagree with OP Boxing is far from strength only. Boxing requires just as much technique as strength. Decision making is also key. There's technique to punching and movement requires great technique. Ali's movement is the ultimate example. Basketball surely involves a huge amount of teamwork, technique and flair comparable to football that OP placed at the other end of the spectrum. Just as with boxing, no need to mention any teams or players. It's dominated by blacks. I'm sure it has to do more with culture than genes. Football? Pele, the GOAT, is as black as it gets. Abedi Pele. More than half of every Brazilian squad ever. The Nigerian Atalanta 96' Olympics winning squad. Heck, loads of Nigerian youth squads. And I took care to mention players/teams that relied more on technique/teamwork than their strength. That we (Nigeria) don't currently do well in football has more to do with organization, poor teaching/training facilities and corruption. Other sports? Simone Biles - an artistic gymnast. 4 time Olympic gold medalist. Most decorated American gymnast ever. Gymnastics is a prime example of a sport that requires HUGE HUGE technique. Tennis -- Venus Williams. Serena is more strength than technique but anyone who has watched Venus Williams play knows that she has arguably the best technique in female tennis. The reason why there aren't many blacks in tennis is the same reason as to why there aren't in swimming, golf, rugby, cricket, winter sports etc. It's cultural. Absolutely nothing to do with genes, creativity, technique, skill etc. Finally, a counterexample to blacks in weightlifting is this strongest man ever sport. It's fully dominated by Caucasians. So, it isn't genes. It's cultural. Some prefer a certain kind of sport to another. 1 Like 1 Share |

I can't believe people find this funny. In a sane society, it's the duty of the government to ensure that the most vulnerable group of the society gets the opportunity to lead normal lives - getting them jobs to earn their keep and live with dignity. However, our government not only sees nothing wrong with begging, they see it as an IGR opportunity. We are shameless and weak. I'm disgusted! 1 Like |

Gerrard59: My stance couldn't be further apart from yours. I advocate for compulsory quality education for the betterment of our society, not eugenics. Eugenics is stupid and inhuman, rooted in the flawed ideology of Darwinism. People will always see reason as to why they are superior to another group; thus, rationalizing their choice to seek means to dominate/wipe out another group. So, IMO, in the long run you either end up with a dystopian society or a violent and unstable one. Either won't help the survival of the human species. 1 Like 1 Share |
Family / Re: The Problems Of Family Planning In Nigeria by Exciton(m): 3:19am On Jul 14, 2017 |
The major problem isn't even the current high population that we have or the fact that it's growing. As long as the society is developing and advancing, the population growth trend follows a similar pattern - growth, saturates, then drops. The problem is the HIGH PROPORTION of the unskilled/uneducated/illiterate (a fücking huge % if you compare with current education standards and not the Victorian era literacy standard that we use - being able to read and write). And the higher this proportion, across generations, the poorer the society becomes. That's the real worry! Everything is down to poor education, poor skill acquisition. Patriarchy, irrational religious and cultural beliefs, and poverty induced chicken-like baby making, are all ultimately a result of poor education. The enlighted one will realise that a male dominated society is of no advantage in our current information age, won't fall for stupid religious dogma, knows history and therefore knows that culture isn't sacrosanct, and can shape his/her culture. More of his/her time is allocated to problem solving, leaving little time (unlike the poor unskilled one) to make 30 babies etc. As an example, poor sex education is probably our leading cause of "baby-mamas" in our part of the world. In our male dominated society, common sense should dictate that sexually active women should be on pills as it's their future that's mainly affected but even our prejudiced doctors will scare them against it, claiming horrible side effects; meanwhile, it's standard practice everywhere in the world. So, you see, we are basically raising a 200 million stong army of poorly educated liabilities who lack the skills to dominate the world, to create value and wealth from her environment talkless of being able to survive extinction events, to spread, terraform and colonise other planets, or to attain the "singularity" dream predicted by futurists. They, in turn, will pop out more babies destined to be poorly educated and lacking in creativity as their parents and teachers haven't the skill nor the knowledge to adequate equip these next gen babies. Hell, most Naija parents raise mental slaves, beaten into submission, always "respecting" (worshipping) elders, incapable of independent thought. This only serves to weaken our children. A warning: democracy isn't very old, neither is the respect for sovereignty nor the charter of fundamental human rights. It will be naive of us to think these ideas will last forever. It's smart to make our nation strong and independent to avoid being dominated, or worse enslavement/extinction. In sum, until we standardize our educational system, empowering our next gen with skills for survival - critical thinking, empathy, logic, creativity, STEM geared towards the next big things [like AI, nanoscience, Data Analytics, Genetic engineering, space exploration etc], the art of learning how to learn, history, moral and political philosophy, and economics. Until we start an intellectual revolution, make evidence based arguments and decisions, expel our strongly held "gerontocratic" beliefs etc, our society will remain weak and always in danger of extinction. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

Iamzik: Hehehe. Many scientists agree that conclusions based on experiments leading to the development of quantum mechanics are right. Same goes for theories derived from conclusions based on experiments in various scientific fields. So, you might as well find fault in all of these theories based on falacy of generalization since there's always a chance that, in the far distant future, a dispositive evidence can arise; thereby, falsifying the theory. You confuse mathematical logic (where absolute truth exists) with reality, the realm of science, where the best approximation of the truth (an accepted working theory) is the best one can get. Again, I repeat, a scientific theory is falsifiable. That which isn't is pseudo-scientific. That's why science is self-correcting. Many scientists come to the same conclusion on global warming. So, it's simply gonna be accepted as true... until evidence against its predictions show up. I guess that does it. Have a nice day. |

Iamzik: Well, accept my apology for laughing off your Al Gore claim. He truly won a Nobel prize for his efforts to disseminate important information to the public. But that's where it stops. Every other thing you said is just the usual conspiracy stuff. And I can't argue with you because your arguments are only explanatory (at least within the time frame of our existence), they aren't falsifiable (i.e there's no logical possibility of designing an experiment to show that your claims are flat out wrong). It's the same reason why it's a waste of time to argue with flat-earthers, alien visitor believers, that pastor can cure HIV believers, there is God believers etc etc. What I mean is this: you will explain everything away to fit your claim. E.g. If I claim there's well recorded data supporting average temp rise, you'd respond by saying we're still in the temp rise regime and will regulate itself at a later time... a time which your hypothesis can't even make an attempt to predict - primarily because there's no data: the Anthropocene era is unique in the sense that it's the first time in the history of Earth that the inhabitants have had a huge impact on ecology and most likely the climate. So, your argument is un-testable, not falsifiable. However, the opposite is. And many scientists around the world agree that the data supports the global warming claim. |

Paragraph 2 says global warming is a fraud while paragraph 3 talks about inevitable temp rise (based on studies from god knows where - citation needed). I won't even bother to convince you that global warming is real or that fossil fuels are a major cause. Go and get good info online based on peer reviewed papers. Paragraph 2 also talks about Al Gore like he's a Nobel prize winning scientist due to his great work on global warming. Lol. Paragraph 4. I don't know it's purpose. Except the last 2 lines which I disagree with. Auto manufacturers will most likely discontinue production of petrol/deisel powered cars in the future primarily due to government regulations, associated subsidies, people's increased awareness and civil responsibility to keep the environment clean etc. 1 Like |

It's like the current Naija youth are as useless as the older generation... those ones are confirmed failures. The important fact is that the world is changing and we've gotta plan to acquire the required skill set, at least for the sake of our children. I'm sure there's no place in the country currently into or have contributed anything of worth to the research in the fields of organic electronics, perovskite solar cells, energy storage, hydrogen generation, quantum computing, artificial intelligence etc. That's the future.
