MummyNeto: Thanks for the reply ma'am. Please, do you think I should try dieting and using supplements for a few months before cycling? IVF seems so absolute and I'm afraid that if I try it and it doesn't work I'd lose faith. |

Good evening Mamas, thanks for always coming to my aid. Here I come again. Please bear with me, this is going to be very long. Hubby and I have been trying for seven years so we decided to go for IVF. I have a history of PCOS but only one doctor ever diagnosed me of that and I did several hormonal tests before his own. Now, the catch is he tested me on day 10 and day 21 of my cycle instead of day 2/3 and 21. When I asked, the lab person said that's the doctor's system. The result found an imbalance in my FSH/Progesterone levels. In the previous hormonal profile I did, progesterone was also low and the doctors recommended Duphaston and placed me on Metformin but he didn't tell me I had PCOS. The latter test also found high prolactin. The doctor placed me on Hyponidd and Dostinex. When that didn't work, we decided to try the IVF route. I told the doctor of my history which also includes one blocked tube. (I've confirmed that it's from the Uterus side and there's no hydro. The test just stated that the right tube was not seen and left tube patency) He recommended a string of tests including viral markers for hubby and me, SFA, Uterine Cavity test, and AMH, but said I didn't need to repeat the Hsg or hormonal test. He said he would use my AMH result to ascertain my PCOS. It indeed came out very high around 2.86ml, I think the highest level on the list. But I'm only 28, I don't know if age can also contribute to that. Lastly, they found a blockage in the uterus and recommended a hysteroscopy. They found uterine polyps and removed them (I've been having prolapse and irregular menstrual cycle since 2019 which I now know is the polyps.) My period after the procedure and there was no stopping and resuming like before. They booked me to cycle this month, but I couldn't because of my husband's fast. My concerns are 1.) My hormones, I don't know what is right or wrong. Should I wait to do it again before I cycle? I did one recently but the doctor said he doesn't trust the result. 2. Could the polyps have been the only thing stopping pregnancy? 3. If PCOS is confirmed does IVF still give a good chance? Please Mamas come to my aid. I don't want to do this in vain. The money can be put to great use else where if it's going to be a waste of time. But if I have a fighting chance with IVF, I'd really love to try. Seven years without a child is not beans at all. Sorry for the long post and thanks for your time. |

Blendy77: This really helped, thanks. I did the test early last year. So I might do another one next month and take you up on your offer. Thanks again ma'am. |

Blendy77: Please how do I know if it's from the uterus end or the ovary end or if it's hydro? I'm a bit confused, but I'll start with the serrap and castor oil massage. |

Ekabobo: Yes, it's an OTC. But I thinks it works more for helping the ovaries release follicles than the actual rupturing. If your follicles don't rupture, you might still need an HCG injection. |

Ekabobo: You mean to stimulate in preparation for the next cycle, right? Because I don't think you can stimulate and still get results when you should have ovulated already. I think two of the most popular drugs for stimulation are Clomid and Letrozole. I don't know much about the first because I have a history of cysts, and I heard Clomid can worsen it. So I asked for something milder. Doctor recommended Letrozole but it's usually taken early in the cycle beginning from Day 2. Just my two cents. 1 Like |

TwinHeart: Thanks for the reply, ma'am. I did HSG last year. One tube is blocked and the other is open. Both Docs said I can depend on the only one that is open. Husband's sperm count is around 21 with a 5ml volume. Motility 40 percent. He was given some drugs to increase the motility but we've not done a follow-up SFA. The doctor recommended Letrozole for ovulation. Is there anything else I can add through the six months before we try IVF? I really appreciate your response ma'am. |

Good afternoon mamas. Please I need your help. I've been married since 2016, though we didn't start trying until the following year. I had a miscarriage in 2017 and since then no pregnancy. Though I was mostly using herbs. I went the hospital route fully in 2020. Then, my doctor recommended Duphaston because my progesterone was low and it affected my endometrium lining. But after three months of using it, I was measuring well between 10-12mm. Still no pregnancy after tracking ovulation for a few months. Then, I was using Letrozole and Duphaston. I travelled and had to change my gynae. New gynae asked me to run test and diagnosed me of PCOS last year. He recommended Hyponidd and Dostinex for high prolactin. But hubby is getting inpatient and thinks we should go through the IVF route. I'm 28, Hubby is 33 with no issues. I'm seriously confused and scared. I don't know if I have any chance of beating PCOS with just those drugs and some small dietary changes. And if we go the IVF route, I don't know if existing issues will affect our chances. All inputs will be appreciated, please. Also, does anyone know how much the whole IVF process will cost at PF Medical, for own egg and donor? Thank you so much. |

Good evening everyone. Please, I need your help. I have been having "induced prolapse" since 2019. It is getting very worrisome. The prolapse only appears when I take herbs or do certain exercises. Another thing is it comes two or three days to my menstruation. It stays for about three days, during this period I'll be spotting with a lot of mucus. After three days with intense pain. It goes away on its own and my period comes. Even if I take herbs or do crunches on the very first day of my menstruation. The prolapse will appear during the next menstruation. From what I have read about prolapse I don't think they are supposed to behave this way, appearing and disappearing in their own. I have spoken to three gynecologists about this but none gave me a satisfactory answer. I stopped doing everything that triggers it, but I've been having issues with ovulation so I took Guava tea twice during my last menstruation. By day 13, I had ovulated without taking any drug or shot. But when it was almost time for the next menstruation, the prolapse appeared again. Two days of spotting with a lot of mucus, then it disappeared and menstruation came. Any advice or recommendations? Thanks. |

When Can You Afford to Retire? A Question you Should Answer Before you Decide to Retire As soon as many workers are in their early 50s, they start thinking about throwing in the towel, as they should after years of service to the country. The fact is some people are not ready for retirement even when they reach their MRAs. The reason for this is finance. A retiring worker has to make adequate financial plans before retirement. For workers under FERS, there are three primary sources of income after retirement. They are pension payments, withdrawals from workers' TSP accounts, and Social Security benefits. These three sources are there to help federal workers transition smoothly from paid employment to retirement. Having these sources does not entirely insulate retirees from financial crises. That is why it is essential to make plans before taking the big step. Here are some questions that will help you ascertain if you are financially ready for retirement or not: ..How hefty are your expenses? ..Will the income you are expecting be enough to cater to your needs till you die? ..What about taxes and inflation on market prices? ..Have you thought about emergencies, especially a possible need for assisted living facilities? ..Have you considered that your investments can take a drastic plunge at any point in the future? ..Are you going to remain in paid employment after retirement? ..Have you factored in the need to wait for a while before claiming your Social Security benefits to avoid reductions? ..Have you thought about only your gross income? Aren’t you forgetting deductions and tax retention? ..What about your spouse ( if married)? Will the income be enough for you two? What if someone dies? How does the other partner survive? ..Do you have others who depend on you for financial support? ..Made provisions for other dependants? For more clarity, let's take Peter, a federal employee under the FERS, as an example. Peter has worked for 32 years and currently earns $100,000 annually. After all deductions and taxes, Peter receives about $2,290 every two weeks. His highest pay in three consecutive years is 95,000. If Peter decides to retire at 57, here is what he expects. First, he would be entitled to thirty-five percent of his High 3 from the FERS yearly. That's $33,250 every year ( about $2,770 each month). After deductions, Peter would be left with about $2,100 per month. The first sum of $2,770 would be Peter's monthly gross income, while the $2,100 would be his net income. Peter would also get supplemental benefits, approximately about $1,600 from the FERS. Tax deductions would drop the benefits to about $1,250. Then, Peter would be left with about $3,350, which is less than his current income of about $4,600 monthly. The next thing is to consider Peter's Thrift Savings Plan account. If he has been able to save $350,000, and he starts removing the deficit of $1,250 from the account each month, he will deplete the money in less than ten years. The duration won't be that long but for the 3% average return on the investments. There some options open to Peter if he does not wish to withdraw from the account monthly, but nothing will make up for the deficit. The question now is, at 57, is Peter ready to retire? He might be if he is prepared to make a few adjustments. Peter might have to cut down on some expenses, such as moving to a more economical area or region. He might have to forgo some retirement plans such as an expensive vacation or hobby. There is also a probability that he would remove more from his TSP account because he will not be receiving COLAs until 62. He could also take up another employment, but with that, he would lose the supplemental benefit. But on the flip side, he would have more time to add to the $350,000 in his TSP. Peter must also prepare for the possibility of paying for assisted living facilities. From Peter's story, it is clear that you have to think about retirement plans critically. However, if you still want to plunge ahead, you might consider making lifestyle changes that would keep you frugal enough to spend the rest of your life without having financial crises. Above all, ensure you start saving early and try to meet up with the 5% of bi-weekly pay savings. This will make you eligible to receive an additional 5% from your agency. |
