A member of the House of Representatives, Ben Rollands Igbakpa, on Tuesday challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to expose the lawmaker sponsoring the secessionist agitators in the country. Buhari had in his independence anniversary address last Friday, said the government had identified sponsors of the secessionist groups and their leaders. He added that among them were members of the National Assembly. Nnamdi Kanu, who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was abducted in an undisclosed country on June 27. He is standing trial for alleged treason and other allied charges at the Federal High Court, Abuja. The self-professed Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, was arrested in the Benin Republic in August for entering the country illegally. He was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged illegal possession of AK-47 rifles and more than 5000 rounds of ammunition following a raid on his Oyo State residence on July 1. Igbakpa, who is representing the Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State, addressed his colleagues under the matters of privilege. In his response, the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila said the matter had been noted, adding that the leadership would get back to the lawmaker. He, however, said the matter was not up for debate. The speaker said: “Thank you Hon. Ben, your privilege is noted and we will get back to you on that.” Another lawmaker later interjected, saying “this is serious.” Gbajabiamila stopped the lawmaker and ended the proceedings. He added: “What is serious? He (Igbakpa) came under matters of privilege and it is not to be debated.” https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/rep-dares-buhari-to-expose-kanu-igbohos-sponsor/

Former governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha, says though he has enough justifiable reasons to support the breakup of the country, Nigerians should rather pray and work for a united indivisible Nigeria. Lamenting increased violence and bloodshed across the country, Mr Okorocha, a serving senator said, “My heart bleeds with the killing of countless Nigerians; the bloodbath in the north is worrisome but it is not over with Nigeria yet as there are better days ahead.” Insecurity has taken a frightening trajectory in Nigeria with herdsmen killings in the west, and unknown gunmen killing and burning down government properties in the South-East, while bandits, kidnappers, and Boko Haram terrorists ravage the entire northern part of the country. Aside from kidnapping hundreds of students in Katsina, Kagara Niger State, Kaduna, Kebbi and Zamfara State, bandits in July bombed a Nigerian Airforce jet and also raided the Kaduna branch of the Nigerian Defence Academy in August, killing two. https://gazettengr.com/i-have-reasons-to-want-nigerias-breakup-okorocha/

***Throw back from last year*** In February last year, US government opposed Nigeria’s plan to hand Kebbi governor $100m from Abacha loot. By Dennis Erezi. US Department of Justice said Bagudu was involved in corruption with the late Abacha who Transparency International (TI) said may have looted as much as $5 billion during his 1993-98 rule in Nigeria. DoJ also contends that the Nigerian government is hindering U.S. efforts to recover allegedly laundered money it said was traced to Bagudu, Bloomberg reported on Friday. DoJ said in a statement earlier in the month that Bagudu with Abacha and Abacha’s son Mohammed Sani Abacha “embezzled, misappropriated and extorted billions from the government of Nigeria and others, then laundered their criminal proceeds through U.S. financial institutions and the purchase of bonds backed by the United States.” “The United States has asked the government of Nigeria to withdraw litigation it has instituted in the UK that hinders the U.S. effort to recover these additional funds for the people of Nigeria,” DoJ said in February 2020. “Instead of welcoming U.S. efforts, Nigeria’s lawyers appear to be supporting the interests of one of the country’s most powerful families.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/guardian.ng/news/us-opposes-nigerias-plan-to-hand-kebbi-governor-100m-from-abacha-loot/amp

Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has backed the call for the Presidency to move to the South in 2023. Naija News reports that the South Governors had on two occasions demanded that the 2023 presidency should go to the Southern region of the country. But the Northern Governors at a meeting in Kaduna last month rejected the idea of a southern presidency in 2023, claiming the demand is unconstitutional. In an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Shekarau stated that it would be unfair for another Northern to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. The Senator representing Kano Central in the National Assembly stated that zoning the 2023 Presidency to the South is the best thing to do in the interest of justice and fairness. The former minister asked the governors to rather dialogue and lobby their Northern colleagues in order to make their wish come true. He also berated the Northern governors for saying that the demand of their Southern counterparts is unconstitutional, asking them to thread with caution. https://www./2021/10/04/2023-presidency-should-go-to-south-shekarau-tells-northern-govs/

Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has reiterated the call for sincere national dialogue on the state of the nation as well as the urgent need to restructure Nigeria in the spirit of true federalism. Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, the governor restated his position that Nigeria is in dire need to a national dialogue and a new constitution that would put the country in good stead for national cohesion and sustainable economic performance. National dialogue on a new Constitution and True Federalism constitute a veritable window for resolving all developmental, economic and political challenges facing the nation, he pointed out, saying that peace and progress were achievable if leaders were resolved on patriotism and honesty and the citizenry were law-abiding. Okowa said: “There is no auspicious time than now to address the nagging issues of restructuring and true federalism in the country’s polity especially as more voices were added and have become louder on the imperative of these burning issues regarding the desired unity in the country. “These challenges are not insurmountable as we continue to hope that Nigerians will live together to build a great and perfect nation as envisioned by our founding fathers. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2021/10/02/again-okowa-calls-for-national-dialogue-true-federalism/

It's one thing to accuse someone, but it's another thing to be able to substantiate that your claim in a court of competent jurisdiction... FG has no evidence against ipob because ipob is not a violent group... So All they do is result to cheap media blackmail, like their agents are doing seriously here in Nairaland.. that's why Kanu may not be produced in court.. 1 Like 1 Share |

Amnesty International has accused Nigerian security forces of using excessive forces against separatists in the country’s southeast. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been campaigning for the independence of the region. The agitations, spearheaded by Nnamdi Kanu, have been met with crackdowns by the Nigerian government. Kanu himself is undergoing a trial for treason in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. Amnesty International Nigeria said the violent crackdowns have led to the death of at least 200 separatists since June 2021. “The evidence gathered by Amnesty International paints a damning picture of ruthless excessive force by Nigerian security forces in Imo, Anambra and Abia states,” said Osai Ojigho, the group’s Nigeria director. AI group said the security operations launched by the government focus primarily ESN members, relatives of the many victims told the rights group that they were not part of the militant groups who were attacking security agents. Amnesty said it also documented cases of arbitrary arrest, ill-treatment, and torture in the region. It said that in May 2021, the Imo state government announced the arrest of at least 400 people allegedly linked to the violence. “Amnesty International’s investigation indicates that most of them were randomly picked up in their homes and off the street and had nothing to do with ESN.

August 5, 2021By Abdul Seye The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) recently accused the Nigerian government of abducting him from Kenya. Aloy Ejimakor, the lawyer to Kanu, who visited him at the State Security Service (SSS) detention, narrated the circumstances of the arrest of his client, putting an end to series of speculations on the place he was arrested and brought to Nigeria. The latest clarification by Kanu, through his lawyer, has generated further controversies in the past couple of days. In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Mr Ejimakor said that Kanu, who had been in Kenya since May, was arrested at the airport while he was trying to pick up an unknown person. He claimed that the “Kenyan Government was deeply involved in the abduction, detention and ill-treatment of my client before the illegal handover to their Nigerian counterpart.” The account by the lawyer clearly contradicts the position of the Kenya High Commissioner to Nigeria, Wilfred Machage, who at a press briefing, denied the involvement of the government of Kenya in the “abduction.” Kenya’s Director General of Immigration Services, Alexander Muteshi, in an interview with Kenya Nation, said he was not aware that Kanu was in the country. However, Kanu’s lawyer has insisted that he was with the passport of his client which shows he was in Kenya. Also, the Nigerian government had refused to state where and how Kanu was adopted. The Attorney General of the federation, Abubakar Malami, while announcing the capture of the IPOB leader, said he was intercepted through the collaboratory effort of security agencies. Equally, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had also evaded questions on where and how Kanu was captured. History of abduction Notwithstanding the back and forth between Kenya officials and Kanu’s lawyer, what is not in doubt is the entanglement of President Muhamadu Buhari with alleged abduction. Mr Kanu’s abduction bear similarity with the failed abduction of Umar Dikko, a former Minister of Transportation under President Shehu Shagari, in July 1984. Mr Dikko was abducted in front of his house at Bayswater in London, unfortunately for the kidnapper, the personal secretary of Mr Dikko, Elizabeth Hayes had witnessed the grabbing and reported to the police. Charles Morrow, Custom officer at Stansted Airport that foiled the kidnapping, in an interview with BBC, noted that the appearance of the Nigeria Airway Booing 707 at the tarmac to pick up diplomatic bags from the Nigerian High Commission in London, raised suspicion. Also, Scotland Yard had raised a warning about possible smuggling of a Nigerian exile who had been kidnapped Furthermore, the agents failed to tag the crates with the diplomatic tag in compliance with the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, which would have prevented the customs officers from inspecting the content. 17 persons involved in the incident were arrested, and according to the Minute House of Common session sighted by DAILY POST, the then Secretary of State for the Home Department, Leon Brittain, said the Nigerian government failed to use the Fugitive Offender Act, which applies to Nigeria. This means the Nigerian government could have formerly requested the arrest of Dikko. In the aftermath of the diplomatic fiasco, the Nigerian Government had seized the British Caledonian plane and two British engineers were arrested and spent 25 months in prison for stealing a private jet. https://dailypost.ng/2021/08/05/how-nnamdi-kanus-alleged-abduction-bears-semblance-to-kidnapping-of-umar-dikko-in-1984/ |

Top Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa says governors in the southeast region of Nigeria should support the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB’s) planned lockdown. POLITICS NIGERIA understands that IPOB wants to ensure that people of the South-East, Delta and Rivers States observed lockdowns every Monday. The total lockdown every Monday, which is tagged: “Ghost Monday” by the group, has been scheduled to continue until the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, was released from custody. “The SouthEast Governors should make U-turn now and support the civil disobedience of those who elected them. The sit-at-home order must be adhered to if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not released. The case of Abba Kyari should’ve been an eye-opener to how America goes after criminals,” Ekpa wrote on his known Twitter handle on Wednesday. IPOB is a Biafran separatist and Igbo nationalist organization in Nigeria. Its main aim is “to restore an independent state of Biafra in the South East of Nigeria through an independence referendum”. https://politicsnigeria.com/southeast-governors-should-support-Igbos-ghost-monday-simon-ekpa/ |
