Business / Re: $500M Shopping Mall To Be Built In Owerri by FACE(m): 4:20pm On Apr 19, 2012
I am trying to understand how people are up in arms with Rochas when the article stated that the mall will be built by a consortium of private investors.

How is Rochas expected to wrestle the money off the investors and build power stations and electric trains instead?

As an investor, people should let me decide the type of business and place to invest my money. If I lose, it's my money lose; anyone that wants some other type of investment should put his money down or move aside.

Imo State government has entered into partnership with an American company, Jesus Mary and Joseph Holdings Ltd. to build an estate with 500 units of houses that will be christened ‘Diaspora Village’.

Speaking during an interview with Journalists shortly after a meeting with Governor Rochas Okorocha at the Government House, Owerri recently, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Timothy Barton said the 500 buildings will be of same quality and standard with the estates built in Texas, USA.

Mr. Barton explained that his company will commence the project with 200 units of houses and later extend to 500 units in its second phase. He hinted that the project would commence in October, adding that forms would be made available to prospective landlords who would be interested in purchasing the houses at a reduced cost upon completion of the project.

Mr. Barton maintained that the opportunity would further strengthen the bi-lateral relationship between Imo State government and Texas in the United States of America.

He however urged indigenes of Imo State in Diaspora to embrace this opportunity by visiting home and contributing to the ongoing development of the State.

I think it's hightime we moved away from low density in occupancy buildings and estates in the SE in order to conserve and maximise the use of our lands. We need to maintain our open spaces and vegetations in order to remain eco friendly.

There are several low density estates already in Owerri like Aladinma, Prefab, Egbeada, Trans Egbu, World Bank areas A to N, works l/out etc. We need more of mid or high density areas like Ikenegbu and extension, so I am not very sure that 500 low density residential buildings would not amount underutilisation of land which might come back to bite us in future.

Good development in terms of FDI though.

The article could have been written by Dede1 for all I care. In fairness to Gbawe, he is only passionate about defending and projecting his state and ethnic group and I have never seen him go out of his way to disparage other ethnic groups. He may have his faults like everyone else, but I think he should be cut some slack.
Politics / Re: Oya Na! Sanusi Pushes For Complete REMOVAL Of Fuel Subsidy by FACE(m): 3:50pm On Apr 16, 2012
Seun: The subsidy won't be a greater problem for Nigeria if the price of oil drops. I don't know why Sanusi keeps saying this. If the price of crude oil drops, the cost of providing the fuel subsidy will drop by a similar percentage. If the oil price rises, it will also go up.

It is not as simple as that.

According to the budget:

Disposable Income (DI)= 4.877 T
Total Recurrent Expenditure (TRE) = 3.53T = ((Subsidy) 0.88T + other recurrent expenditure (ORE) of 2.65TK)
Capital Expenditure (CE) = 1.34TK

Disposable income = CE + TRE = CE + ORE + Subsidy

K = constant (I have made both CE and ORE constants because they were derived from a fixed DI of 4.87T)

Let T = 1000000000000.

4.87T = CE + ORE + 0.88T

Income is derived from crude oil revenue and subsidy is nearly directly proportional to the price of crude oil. Lets see what 20% reduction in both parameters would mean.

0.8 x 4.87T = CE + ORE + 0.8 x 0.88T

3.9T = 1.34TK + 2.65TK + 0.704T

Note that whilst subsidy burden has reduced by 0.176T to 0.704T for the financial year, your total Fiscal income for the year has dropped by a massive 0.97 T to 3.9T, which is 72% of your capital expenditure, 37% of ORE or 138% of new subsidy requirement

To be able to meet the capital and recurrent budgets, the budget must run at a minimum of 20% deficit, which must come from your savings or more debts; both of which have their own effects on the currency, inflation and the stability of the economy.

In a nutshell, the subsidy is only one of the components in the budget. A unilateral reduction of subsidy will lead to an increase in the total disposable income and I am a staunch supporter of complete removal of subsidy and for obvious reasons.

While it is true that the cost of fuel subsidy will reduce as a result of fall in crude oil price, the disposable income will also fall since it is directly dependent of the same crude oil price.

The fall in DI will be at least 5 times the fall in subsidy requirement at 20% reduction of crude oil price. The resultant effect will be a budget deficit achieved by depletion of savings, which might not be sustainable or by further borrowing. The other way out is to make cuts in capital expenditure or ORE, which might involve redundancies and sharp rise in unemployment.

We will continue to wait in vain for good roads, hospitals and other capital-intensive projects if all we are going to commit to capital expenditure is a paltry 20% of the budget, which is a miserable 1.34K in the current budget.
Sports / Re: Rank The Top 5 Nigerian Footballers Of All Time!! by FACE(m): 8:53am On Apr 14, 2012
The football world and fans at large are generally biased towards - us- strikers and midfielders, cos we are out there dazzling and scoring goals, but can Messi play Dani Alves' position ? Can Kanu be in goal ? Can I play in left full back position ?

My top five of all time:

1.Striker: Yekini ; he scored goals as required and his shots could rip the net apart. OK, so he missed an open goal against Italy in 94 world, but I forgive him.

2.Central Midfield: Jay Jay; this area has paraded many greats, but Okocha takes the flag for me. I can't resist mentioning, Henry Nwosu, Sam Okwaraji, Siasia, Amokachi, Headmaster (Adepoju) etc

3. Wide/Flanking Midfield: Justice Amesiamaka Adokie. This guy was the Okocha of the flanks. According to Ernest Okonkwo, he had his senior and junior mesmerisms that he could use with ease. Segun Odegbami deserves a mention like Finidi, Amuneke,Babanigida, but Adokie it is for me.

4. Defence: Chairman Christian Chukwu. No one went near the goalie without Chukwu's permission. He ruled central defence with "iron boots".Not forgetting West,Okechukwu,Babayaro (modern day attacking full back)

5. Goalie: Emmanuel Okala was great. Peter Rufai comes very close, but the picture of him going to retrieve the ball from the net 3 times against Algeria broke my heart as a kid.

Some of you guys are very silly. The OP and some other people keep opening threads that leave people to wonder how some of you guys reason.

Afam or whatever you call yourself, you ought to be ashamed that you are a novice in the topic you wish to discuss.

One of the first responses you got from this silly topic was from someone, Alhaji Harem or whatever, who told you that Gowon built Nkalagu cement factory for you after the civil war and some other rubbish he said and you conceded that nonsense to him and continued to open your flanks for unwarranted attacks.

Afam, are you a dunce or does Seun give you guys money to come up with diiotic topics to keep this useless forum alive ? Who does not know that Nkalagu cement was established by eastern region govt and was the first cement factory in Nigeria ? Due to your idiocy and lack of knowledge, you let some infant give Gowon credit for one of Okpara's achievements, who also established Golden Guinea Breweries, Ceramic Industry, PH (trans Amadi) industrial estate, presidential hotel PH, Hotel presidential Enugu,Calabar cement, defunct Eastern Nigeria University alongside other achievements within the same era.

ndu_chucks:

FACE, you are wrong in this case. The 13% derivation is not based on 13% of onshore oil contribution by the so-called oil states. It is 13% accruing to the Federal account from onshore resources and off shore resources(which belong to every state). To date, the so-called oil states have been wrongfully consuming 13% of contributions from all onshore and offshore resources.

TO KEEP NIGERIA ONE IS A TASK THAT MUST BE DONE cool

You are wrong on this one. The 13% oil derivation is based on onshore and offshore oil with the offshore oil revenue credited to the state on whose continental shelf the oil is found. I don't see how crediting the coastal states with offshore oil is a problem unless you also want Niger republic to be given a share since they are also on the land contiguous to the Atlantic. Unless there are significant mining activities in any state, the 13% will amount to nothing. The solution is to let all states control their resources and pay tax to FG.

You and Abagworo were able to provide th satelite picture of Aba. Why can't u provide the satelite picture of Onitsha and its environs too.
But pls we don't want to enter this debate that you guys are dragging us to. Brothers, Y-O-U W-O-N-T L-I-K-E I-T-S O-U-T-C-O-M-E! All of us will lose.
I've been pleading with Abagworo to stop these childish comparison. But he wont listen. Till Okija_juju gave him a serious beat down. Now he wants to push his luck further here.
BTW, both cities are unique Igbo cities that are the livewires of both states. It will be a mistake if we tear down those cities in a bid to win an online debate.
I'm proud of the resilience of the people that makes those cities thick

I spelt it out from the onset of my post that I was not going to engage in any mudslinging and only proceeded to present Aba and my state in the best way that I could.

I am familiar with Onitsha as well, but apart from Ochanja,Headbridge,Nkpor, Oba, Awada and Upper Iweka, I will not be able to identify other areas in onitsha as much as I am able to cherry pick Aba, so it will be unfair to start a comparism based on the limited knowledge that I have and why should I feel the need compare.

If you must know, Aba is a lot bigger than onitsha from end to end. I have actually passed through the length and breadth of both cities several times and also stayed in both. I could paste a google snapshot to prove that but I wont because I don't want to dragged into this mess created by Abagworo.

Now, Nnewi is sprawing and extremely large depending on where you want to stop because there is no clear divide between Nnewi and nearby towns. All it needs is town planning to prevent a haphazard look. If Imo and Anambra were merged into a state with Nnewi as the capital, places like Ideato in Imo will be under Nnewi metropolis because as it stands at the moment, there is no clear divide as you travel from Nnewi all the way to Aro Ndi Izuogu in Imo state. It is one huge urban sprawl.

I wrote about Abia without mentioning any other place, so it behoves on those who feel moved to put their states on display and present their states in the best way that they can without trying d..ik measurements a la Abagworo.
Politics / Re: Northern States To Get 13% Derivation On Solid Minerals With Immediate Effect-FG by FACE(m): 5:00pm On Mar 19, 2012
We'll have to see how the 13% derivation is implemented going forward. By the time every state with revenue generating natural resource is accounted for as required by the constitution, the remaining of the 13% shared among the oil states would have been reduced significantly.

Very poor calculation there, Ndu_Chuks. The 13% derivation to oil states will not be affected in any way. If the federal pool N consists of funds from x(oil)+ y + z sources, 13% of X will remain the same regardless of the values of y,z and N. While N depends on those variables, the variables do not dependant on N or each other. 13% derivation is actually 13% of a fraction, which happens to be more than 90% of N.

IMO,every state should own all their resources and pay FG 25% contribution.

I think it’s silly to engage in any form of mudslinging with people who are ignorant, so I will simply talk about my home state Abia so that people can know a little bit more about Abia. The information below probably under represents Abia but it should put Abia into perspective.

The face of Umuahia is forever changing and the governor has done some works in Umuahia to his credit, but has let Aba down. Umuahia is developing in the same organised pattern as Owerri and Enugu with well-defined housing sub-divisions. The governor is trying in the area of health care and has equipped two specialist and diagnostic centres with top of the range diagnostic machines.

Umuahia also has a few industries (breweries, ceramics, plastics, palm oil refining, research institute and a few others). B4 the war companies like John Holt, PZ, UAC were all in Umuahia. Umuahia is still a major exporter of palm oil and the palm oil export market (Beach) is still functional.

Aba has taken a lot of flak lately because of the negative news that dwarfed any other news coming from the city. The kidnapping episode late last year seemed to subdue
the erstwhile indomitable and can do spirit of Enyimba people. Even though security is no longer a big issue in Aba since Osisikankwu’s demise, Aba has continued to be the playground (Nairaland) fall guy; with bullies taking their turns to deliver their punches. Lets put this Aba into perspective for any neutral person to judge.

Aba has also suffered immeasurable neglect from the governor resulting to monumental decay of infrastructure. (Although according to people, he is beginning to tackle the road and sanitation issues in Aba) The governor once lamented that only 20% of the 600+ manufacturing outfit in Aba were paying taxes to the state government. Rightly so IMO; pay good attention to your investments if you want good rewards.

Aba was well planned and only requires a facelift in terms of road repairs, drainage and sanitation, which would be provided by a committed governor. The aerial view of Aba can bear testimony to this. The city is self-propelling as long as the infrastructures are there.

We don’t do meandering roads in old Imo state cities. Our roads are well defined planned and as straight as possible. Umuahia and Aba benefited from this planning by Mbakwe, who simply designed the master plans of our cities without waiting for any “UN habitat master plan”(laughable for people to wait for UN to help them design a master plan for their cities).

The cities of Aba, Owerri and Umuahia were planned with underground drainage system. Mbakwe’s master plan was to connect the entire drainage system in old Imo state including Orlu and Okigwe zones. He had bought the heavy-duty drainage pipes (about 1m diameter) and lined them up from Umuahia to Owerri and from Okigwe to Owerri before the military struck and sold our drainage pipe works, but I digress. Umuahia and Owerri don’t do water logging regardless of how much rainfall they experience. Aba was once like that as well, but I don’t know about now.

Aba was estimated to have more than 870000 residents as at 2006 census. This figure would be significantly higher if you include the greater/metropolitan Aba area. This population is made up of artisans, corporate workers, factory, workers, traders and their families. It is a hands-on city and everywhere is like a market.

Without including the suburbs with several industries, a drive through the densely built up area of the city is about 23KM long. Aba metropolis is forever expanding and has nearly connected with Owerrinta, which is a naval base and mini industrial area by Imo River in Abia. We await a visionary governor (probably FACE) to embark on greater/metropolitan Aba project.

Aba is a commercial and industrial city.

Markets: Apart from the markets listed below, several markets in Aba would qualify as main markets in some states.

Ariaria is the main market. To put it in perspective, the main area known as Ariaria market is about 1.2km x 0.7 KM in area. The spill over Ariaria is more than quadruple that area, all roads leading to Ariaria major trading areas. People visit this market from other countries everyday. This market alone is capable of putting more than N50 billion per annum on Abia revenue table if rates and taxes were to be properly organised.

Alaoji spare parts market as originally defined and now including adjoining areas. If you are looking for vehicle spare parts and you don’t find them in this market, Lagos or Onitsha/Nnewi, you will not find them elsewhere in Nigeria, if you are looking for heavy machinery and heavy equipment and you don’t find them in this market or elsewhere in Aba, you won’t find them in Nigeria.

Textile Market (Ngwa road market): As the name implies, it is noteworthy that the areas around Aba were known for cloth weaving (Akwete), therefore it made sense for Aba textile mills plc to be built. This market hosts tonnes of people from other African countries, who flock to this market in search of bargain.

New market: An offshoot of the original Ngwa road market. Textiles and everyday trading.

Electronics market: This market quickly became too small for the merchants and spilt over to the adjoining areas including the famous pound road. All the people in the satellite areas will soon be moved to another area (Business and industrial park) being developed by Abia govt.

Cemetery Road Market (Eziukwu): Also a large market trading in various stuff.

Bakkasi market: Shoes,leather,handbads,suitcases.

According to UNIDO. “The Aba shoe and leather goods cluster is composed of seven zones. Each zone is specialized in certain product line such as ladies sandals, mules, men’s closed shoes and sandals, boots, leather goods such as bags and travel goods. It is estimated that the total number of entrepreneurs in all the zones is 55,371. Average number of people employed is about 4.3persons/entrepreneur making it totally to 240,000 people in the whole cluster. Average number of dependants per entrepreneur is 7.8 and this means that 1.87 million people are depending their livelihood on Aba shoe and leather goods community. Approximate combined production of footwear and leather goods is 75,000 pieces/day” http://www.unido.org/fileadmin/import/32799_BergRep1a.pdf

This market is locally known as Bakassi and traders from other West African countries flock to that market to buy their products. This should be another revenue cash cow for Abia.

Industrial Layouts

There are several industries scattered within the city but there are also well-defined industrial layouts, which are heavily subscribed. As you approach Aba from Umuahia direction, you will not fail to notice various factories/industries to the left and right of the express road. This trend continues until you start heading into town. The state government says that there are more than 600 small to large-scale industries registered in Aba. This excludes industries employing few people.

The are 4 well defined and heavily subscribed industrial layouts in Aba:

Factory Road Industrial layout (here you will find factories like Nigeria Breweries, PZ Plc, Unilever, KSI plc, NBC aka Coca-Cola etc) this layout is fully subscribed by big hitters.

Ogbor Hill Industrial L/out (the likes of International Glass Industry PLC, Aba Textile PLC, International Equitable Association PLC,
Glassforce PLC (largest bottle, test tubes and laboratory glassware in Nigeria), 7UP bottling co etc.

Osisoma Industrial L/out (NNPC depot, TONIMAS lubricants, Guiness breweries, Choice paints, De Smet Refineries, Plant Oil and Chemical Industries Ltd, Theo & Theo paints, Ceeplast Resin and Plastic Industries, Oil Crusher and refineries and many others.

There are several other big timers scattered all over town like Star Paper Mills, ANCOS steel (fabricators of steel and machineries including trailers, tankers and industrial reservoirs),Slok Vegitable Oil.

Accordingly, Aba integrated power project by Geometric power is developing substations in the 4 industrial belts in Aba. Shell is already supplying gas through their pipeline to industries in Aba.

Agriculture:
If anyone ever wandered why there are several oil palm/vegetable oil refineries in Aba, the area from Alaoji towards Obehie/PH would provide the answer. Alaoji area is a small, medium and large-scale industrial sector and also hosts several oil palm plantations, which provide the feedstock to those industries. Snapshots below.

Power stations:

There are three power stations either in operation or nearing completion in Aba or near Aba (Umuobasi, Alaoji and Geometric Power stations Aba). While Umuobasi and Alaoji will feed into the national grid under NIPP, geometric will serve only Aba and would be independent of the national grid.

I get what you are saying but it is ambiguous writing it that way or maybe, it’s the way it is displayed on the screen.

I would write it this way 4/5(X),(4/5)X or 4X/5 rather than 4/5x, which are different operations. In operations, if you use slashes /, everything to the right of the / becomes a denominator or a direct function of the denominator if it is directly attached to the first denominator unless you use brackets or you write like this: 4/5X
Alternatively, using bars with X attached outside the bar to the right means that X is not a denominator in the operation.

4/5x appears to read that X is a direct function of 5 which automatically makes it a denominator of 4. i.e. 4 over 5X. Lets give X a value of 3 and the answer you obtain by substitution is 4/15 as opposed to the desired result of 12/5.

ekt_bear: Then at this point, given that we know that:

1. AB is of length 3X
2. BD is of length 4X
3. The angle at B is 90 degrees

then we immediately know that
4. AD must be of length 5x (just the 3-4-5 triangle identity for right triangles like ADB).

Examine the triangle CND. Notice that it is a right triangle (the angle at N is 90 degrees), and must be similar to ADB because both triangles share the angle at D (ADB has a 90 degree angle, an angle(D) degree angle, and so does CND. Sharing 2 angles means you share all 3, and so by definition the two triangles are similar.)

So that takes care of the first result (proving that CND is similar to ABD.)

To find CN and AN, we again use the fact that we have a 3,4,5 triangle. We know that the length of CD is 4x-y. This is the longest face of the triangle CND, since it is opposite the largest angle. So using the fact that we have a 3,4,5 triangle, the other two faces must be of length:

a. 4/5 * (4x-y)
b. 3/5 * (4x-y)

Which is which? Which side (CN versus ND) is longer? Well, in triangle ABD, the face AB is shorter. By similarity, then the face CN must be shorter. So

a. length(CN) = 3/5 * (4x-y)
b. length(ND) = 4/5 * (4x-y)

So we've found CN. Now we need to find AN.

Well length(AN) = length(AD)-length(ND) = 5x - 4/5*(4x-y) = 9/5x + 4/5y

Check that answer in bold again. How did y end up a denominator ?
Education / Re: Mathematician Help Me Out With This Simple Problem To Be Submited Tomorow by FACE(m): 7:54pm On Mar 11, 2012
Ibime and T22’s interpretations of the information are nearly correct, but Saintneo’s interpretation is completely in line with the information given. Proofs to both interpretations have been given, but full marks can only be awarded for correct interpretations and correct proof. It’s been nearly 20 years since I did basic maths, but here we go.

It noteworthy that the foot of a perpendicular line is the point that it makes a right angle (90’). Therefore, N is located on line A – D. (just like Saintneo’s drawing)

Proof:

Inverting CND so that it looks like ABD. (You don’t have to invert, it just makes it easier to the eyes. Doing this is quite elementary and I would simply go straight to prove the existing interpretation (drawing) of the question)

In the drawings call the angles at ABD a, b and d and do the same for CND i.e. c, n and d.

Angles n and b are both right angles = 90’
Therefore n = b.
Angle d is the same for both triangles.

Sum of angles in a triangle = 180’
Therefore Angle c = 180 – n – d = 180 – 90 – d = 90 – d.
Similarly Angle a = 180 – 90 – d = 90 –d.
Therefore Angle a = Angle c

2.

A-B = 3x, B-C = y, B-D= 4x
using Pythagoras rule.

A-D = Sq root of(A-B)sq + (B-D)sq = 5x
C-D = B-D – B-C = 4x-y

SOHCAHTOA:

In ABD sides = 5x, 3x and 4x.

In NCD sides = 4x-y, ND and NC.

Angle d is the same for both triangles: lets go,

In ABD sin d = 3x/5x = 3/5 ------- (1)

In NCD sin d = NC/4x – y ------ (2)

(1)= (2) thus:

3/5 = NC/4x-y
NC = 3(4x-y)/5 = 12x-3y/5

In ABD, cos d = 4x/5x = 4/5 -------- (3)

In NCD cos d = ND/4x-y ----------(4)
(3)=(4) thus:

4/5 = ND/4x-y.
ND = 4(4x-y)/5 = (16x-4y)/5 ---------(5)

AN = AD – ND = 5x – (16x –4y)/5 = (25x –16x + 4y)/5 = (9x + 4y)/5

Bros Spyder, my take is that you have at least two different building you are building together.
To make them one, I think you need to chain them up. Otherwise  in a space of 6 months or so.
you will notice that the building will start to seperate at that joint(because of the rotation of the earth) & because just chalking it will not hold it back.
Note

****

Again, I don't know how you plan to do the decking, but please dont make same mistake as you did with the german floor.
since you are building this house as a building, let the decking make them one!!!!!

That is the best solution I can offer.

OLUWA CHAMPION!!!!

The above in bold is false and shows a poor understanding of what you are trying to use as a postulate. Everybody on earth is moving at the same speed and direction (east) as the earth and you do not feel the speed.

Even if the earth were to change speed, unless that speed is not uniform or change was brought about by an external object (2nd law), which causes a sudden change or the earth suddenly departs from its axis of spin everybody will continue to travel at the same speed and direction as the earth with no effect on their stability as a result of the earth's spin. If you have a cup of water in your car and your acceleration is not sudden/erratic and your direction remains uniform, the water will remain in the cup; that's a simple illustration.

You could base your postulates on things like gravity, compression, landslide etc but not on the earth's spin. The day the earth's spin becomes a problem, we will have more worries than the stability a structure.

Spyder has already explained to you about other points you raised.

How would the pro-subsidy people feel if anti-subsidy people barricaded the roads and stopped them from going about their business in peace ?

N97 is just for starters, full deregulation will happen before the end of the year.

Sam_Ikenna:

I'm Igbo, do I really have a right?
My ethnic group is Igbo, do my people have a right to choose their country?
I'm a christian, can I worship as I deem fit?

If you say yes to the above then why are you hounding me over subsidy protest? Why are you angry at me for leaving in 1967? Why are you killing me in the north even when I was fleeing for  my "landlocked" homeland?

You won the war, you have all the states and local government areas, you have the army, you have the navy, you have FCT, you have taken most of oil producing Igbo communities out of Igboland, you killed 50,000 of my people in 2 months (1966 pogrom), you killed over 2 million of my people when you declared war on us for daring to leave you, you rigged the census and have continued unabated, you gave my people 20 pounds, you have no federal presence in my land, you systematically purged my people from civil service after the civil war, you created hate between my people and their neighbours, you designated my people's property as abandon, and you have all the presidency to yourself before and after the civil war. You have it ALLLL! You don't need me! Leave me alone, please I beg you leave me alone! What more do you want from me?

The pain I bear you don't know, the humiliation you brought to me you don't realize, the anger in me is better left unleashed, please let me be.

In my heart of hearts I wished you would leave me and at least enjoy your war booty but I have come to understand that the reason you refused to leave me alone is not because you are inherently bad, its not because you are perpetually evil, no its not. The reason you have refused to leave me alone is because you are incapable of doing so.

You may gloat on my pains, anger, loss, etc but I will forgive you. However, the humiliation and shame you brought to me is personal and will carry consequences. I counted my losses very very long time ago and during that time I stopped crying, I stopped seeking for your justice, I stopped believing in you, I knew I was on my own and embraced my fate, I knew you owed me in material terms, I knew you owed me in blood and tears, and then, and then, I knew that someday I would find you and I would reciprocate your "kindness" knowing you wouldn't consider it personal.

El Rufai to NERC "increase tariff so that foreign investors can come in and fix the power sector.
Govt to Nigerians "We need to deregulate/remove subsidy so that investors can come in and build refineries and fix the oil sector
El Rufai to Govt: "NO. Fix the refineries first before increasing price of fuel/removing subsidy

Which part of the hypocricy do people don't understand?

Goalpost shifting.

His stance is very hypocritical and the argument of trust is null and void. People generally do not trust government anywhere in the world, but they still allow their governments to run their countries.

We agree that the system is currupt but we cannot kick against a good policy based on a presumption of future mismanagement.

Government have promised to use the money judiciously and we can only hold them to account if they don't. I have never seen the police arrest a man because they think that he would steal a car that his neighbour is yet to buy. We need to do things in a logical order. The cart does not drive the horse, neither does the tail wag the dog.

Everyone with their own opinion; as for me I am 100% behind the government on this issue and the government must not shift from their position. If per adventure, they give in, they must under-purchace petrol and create scarcity which shoots the price up to about 170/l, let it linger for a while and then authorise the importers to deal directly with the marketers and that would effectively end the subsidy and return petrol to the correct market price. There are many ways to skin a rabbit !
Politics / Re: FG, Labour Move Towards Compromise by FACE(m): 8:27pm On Jan 12, 2012
GEJ should stand his grounds on this issue, we need to see growth in the sector.

If push should come to shove, he should accept partial subsidy like N20/liter and everyone goes home happy. He should then approve the importation of 20% of the estimated amount needed and make sure that they are actually delivered before making payments.

If 20% of proposed consumption (which would have been inflated as usual) is less than actual demand, we should start to see queues in a few months time due to scarcity and the price goes up due to scarcity and price should hit N170/l. He should let this scarcity linger for a few more months and then authorise the dealers to deal directly with the marketers and that would effectively remove the subsidy and the price returns to its true value of between N130 - N140/l.

The subsidy is not sustainable and must go. Ghana, Cameroon, Benin, Togo and co buy petrol at more than N140 and they are yet to die. Development of the sector is more important to me than the subsidy.

Ndu_Chucks, I know that you support subsidy removal and like me, you think that it could have been timed differently. Now that it has come to be, do you not think that we should back the government on this issue ? As for me, it is no retreat no surrender for the subsidy removal. This (subsidy) is the one egg that must be broken to make an omelet.

Kalu does not take rubbish. I remember 1999 when he allowed Aba to carry out reprisal attacks. The reprisals happened all the way to Obigbo in Rivers state. Yes, I agree that southerners in the north should dig in and defend themselves. Those who can't, should go back home until things cool off. The civil servants can go on sick leave until things cool off.
Politics / Re: “No Work No Pay” – Fgn To Civil Servants by FACE(m): 10:59am On Jan 11, 2012
The worker is worthy of his wages. Anybody who embarks on a strike should be ready to forfeit their wages because they havent worked for it. Their reward should rest on their achievement of the aim of their strike.

Some of us support subsidy removal and those who do not support it should not be paid out of our pockets for depriving us of public services. Some of us are suffering as a result of the strike as well, so should we be compensated by the government because people refused to work ?

I do recognise their rights to go on strike but it is their choice and they should not expect to be paid for works not done.

Yes, no work no pay  cool

So they want to protest and want the police to allow them do so, but they cannot tolerate those not protesting and going about their legit businesses?

Some people think that everyone should do the same thing at the same time. There are people like me who support subsidy removal and we should be allowed to go about our businesses without fear of violence. Non protesters have already allowed protesters their rights to protest and protesters should also allow us our rights to sit at home or do whatever we like.

Our reporter from Ibadan reports that there is now a martial law in Oyo. Negociation still ongoing for a peaceful surrender. General Beaf has given the government in Oyo 24 hours to surrender.

The surrender would have happened already but Gen Beaf of the Presidential Guards insists on giving 400 slaps to the governor who is still trying to negociate the slaps to 20 to which Gen Beaf responded " no be groundnut we dey price here".

Freelance journalist Mr G.B Awe has offered to receive 40 slaps on behalf of the governor. More volunteers needed. International observers are pleading with Gen Beaf to take it easy with the slaps. Negociations continue.

"Under bridge" Ojuelegba has now fallen to Gen SLS led troops who are now mopping up from Lawanson and Ogunlana areas. Corporal E. "House" was seen running for dear life.

Orile and Iganmu have now exchanged hands a few times, but still under the control of Pro subsidy republic who are now calling for ceasefire. President GEJ wants unconditional surrender.
