^ Thanks man, I 100% agree with you that thats the way to go. ElRazur: Sorry, I wasn't having a go at you. But seriously, you havent the slightest clue what you are talking about. Don't be offended, please. Emeagwali has been a very public face for decades. He has been on the cover of Time Magazine, dude, his claims have been out there for all to see. ExxonMobile is not some Dugbe market company, such companies know wagwan long before the man on the streets learns about it; a multi-national is a mini country. Emeagwali has only been dumped because his own country spat on him. You can call him liar, wayward or anything, but he is extremly intelligent. In countries with a sense of direction, intelligence is gold. |

TewMuch: Yes I know about the science World in ways that will shock your puny brain, so don't concern yourself with that. Deal with the topic instead. ExxonMobil disowned him after how many years? They disowned him only after his own disowned him. Its a pull down syndrome that will never do Nigeria any good. No country treats their intelligent people with the contempt Nigeria reserves for theirs. Yet, the same clowns wonder why we never develop or why our best brains are abroad. Shame. |

ElRazur: Guy, look up "Intellectual Property." You simply don't know what you are talking about. All big companies maintain departments and lawyers that manage their portfolio in micro detail. Go mess around with a patent that remotely resembles anything that ExxonMobil has in its portfolio and see how long it takes to recieve a letter from their lawyers in English only Soyinka can deal with. Patent litigations in the US cost hundreds of millions and ExxonMobil aren't so daft that they play games with that sort of money and become a cash cow for patent trolls. |
Politics / Re: Exxonmobil, Others Disown Emeagwali by Faeb: 11:10am On Dec 05, 2010 |
TewMuch: If you know anything about how the science World operates, you wouldn't talk this rubbish. I have said it quite clearly that Emeagwali exagerated, but has anyone stopped to think he would have if Nigeria had backed him from the outset? Just last year, there were huge scandals about the deliberate falsification of Global Warming research. Despite the damning revealations, how many scientists have resigned due to that fraud? I will tell you; NONE. Instead, all sorts of reasons and coverups have been put up by their home govts and science institutions. Other countries protect those with brains, because they know their worth. In Nigeria? You are simply thrown to the pigs, worth nothing in a country that cannot tell left from right. |
Politics / Re: Exxonmobil, Others Disown Emeagwali by Faeb: 10:49am On Dec 05, 2010 |
I am very uncomfortable with the way Emeagwali is being pulled down. There is no doubt that he has made several exagerations, some gross; but the fact remains that he is gifted. Nigerians should be the last to be found pulling down their own for foreigners. It is absolutely disgusting. If Emeagwali was European or American, it would have been his home government making all the exagerations and pushing his name to higher heights. In Nigeria, however no one believes their neighbour could be a genius and if its mentioned, the pull down syndrome swings in. Why? ExxonMobile has just realised after donkey years that Emeagwali has been claiming to have helped with their simulations? Strange! Los Alamos labs has just learnt that they have no knowledge of Emeagwali's Connection Machine after all these decades? Incredible! The truth is that these people have seen that Emeagwali's own are at the forfront of tearing him down and are swooping in to steal his achievements in broad daylight; and we are goading them on, the cheerleaders of thieves who would have no compunction to turn around and call us monkeys tomorrow. It is a disgrace and a terrible shame. |

Politics / Drowning Man: Corruption Charges Against Me In USA, A Sham - Atiku by Faeb: 4:58am On Dec 05, 2010 |
Corruption charges against me in USA, a sham -Atiku Written by Hassan Ibrahim, Northern Bureau Chief Sunday, 05 December 2010 Former Vice President and Northern consensus aspirant for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries ahead of the 2011 Presidential election, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has said that he was the only person that was fully prepared for the Presidency of Nigeria in 2011 and dismissed the corruption charges against him in the USA. This came on the heels of a widespread rumor in the North that corruption charges in the USA against the former Vice President might compel the Ciroma-committee to rescind its decision on the Adamawa born politician and opt for either former President Ibrahim Babangida or General Aliyu Gusau. Commenting on the news that a congressional committee in the United States had alleged that he was involved in illegal financial transactions, Atiku said on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service monitored by newsmen in Kaduna on Saturday, that they never said he stole money and his money was legitimate, pointing out that nobody stopped him from entering the United States as he could travel to the country anytime he wanted. “I was there (USA) two years ago and as soon as I complete doing the things before me, I will be travelling there. It is because of my family that I always go there,” he said. However, President of the Joint Northern Youths Organizations, Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero had warned that unless the Arewa leaders put their house in order and forge a united force, any division amongst them would be capitalized on by the Goodluck/Sambo camp to have a smooth sail in 2011 because they were capable of getting a bulk vote from the South while the Northern votes might be fragmented along various interests and groups. Vice President Namadi Sambo had even said in Kaduna on Friday that the ruling PDP had not recognised the consensus arrangement put forward by Adamu Ciroma and his colleagues, stressing that the party relied on the rule of law and would not give room for any exercise that was out of its legitimate purview. According to Atiku, the responsibility bestowed on him, by his choice as the Northern consensus candidate, was not only for the North but for the entire nation. Commenting on the rally staged in Kaduna by a group of Northern youths against his choice by the Ciroma Committee, he said it was their opinion which they were entitled to, adding however, that majority of the Northerners which include many youths in the region were not in tune with their opinion. “It is normal in politics to face opposition especially when there was an election, that has always been the tradition,” he said. Reacting to Governor Yuguda’s remark that his choice as the consensus candidate was the joke of the year and that of his former boss, Chief Obasanjo who said the choice was laughable, Atiku said he and the duo were at variance politically and their reaction should not come as a surprise. On Governor Akpabio’s remarks that the former Vice President would have to face another committee within the PDP to authenticate his membership of the party, he said the National Chairman of the PDP had already taken care of that and advice the governor to read the constitution of the PDP and respect its supremacy. When asked why shortly after the Ciroma committee selected him, he was seen waving a broom which was the symbol of ACN, the party he dumped for the PDP, he said that was part of the campaign and that he was simply recalling the history of his political journey so far. “When I waved the broom, didn’t I wave with an umbrella? Who are those who fixed the umbrella?”he asked http://www.tribune.com.ng/sun/index.php/front-page-articles/2675-corruption-charges-against-me-in-usa-a-sham-atiku |
Politics / Consensus Option Collapses: IBB To Run by Faeb: 4:40am On Dec 05, 2010 |
Consensus option collapses: IBB to run •Bows to pressure •Holds marathon meetings with think-tanks in Kano, Kaduna, Minna, Lagos Written by Idowu Samuel and Jackson Udom Sunday, 05 December 2010 The consensus approach by the north for the 2011 Presidential election may have cracked after all, as indications are now rife that General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is set to re-new his ambition to run in the election, this time on a broad-based platform by political parties. Indications to this effect emerged last night in Minna following a meeting he held with members of his think-tank who earnestly concluded that he should run against all odds. Sunday Tribune learnt that the Campaign Organisation of IBB is still intact, although not all members of the Campaign Organisation attended the Minna meeting, just as indications are rife that beginning from next week, a new life would be injected into the organisation to make it take off with full steam. The Northern Leaders Political Forum led by Mallam Adamu Ciroma had settled for Atiku as the Consensus Candidate of the North, and had rallied the campaign organisations of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, General Aliyu Gusau and Bukola Saraki to support him. Before the emergence of Atiku as consensus candidate for the North, all the principal presidential candidates in PDP had pledged to support the choice of the northern leaders to confront President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 election. Since the day Atiku was announced as the consensus candidate in line with the design by the Northern leaders, Babangida, Sunday Tribune can report had been under intense pressure to dump the consensus arrangement and dare the next presidential election. Some northern leaders said to be in disagreement with the attitude of the Ciroma-led Northern Leaders Forum had specifically visited Babangida in Minna and Abuja where they mounted pressure on him to run in the next election, promising to assist in mobilising the grassroots support for him not only in the North but in other geo-poltical zones of the federation where they have traditional allies. The northern leaders were said to have facilitated the meeting of his think-tanks in Minna last Friday, where they resolved to conclude on the decision to make Babangida run. The meeting with IBB was said to have run through the night where salient political issues relating with his interest in 2011 and other political strategies for making him attain the dream were said to have been discussed exhaustively with conclusions reached. Before the Minna meeting, similar meetings had held in Kano, Kaduna and Lagos where his supporters arrived at a common consensus in each of the meeting that IBB should run. Long before now, a political party, the National Democratic Party (NDP) had held its National Convention and announced that it had adopted IBB as its own presidential candidate, and even liberalised its option on IBB by stating that it would support any political party that would present him as its presidential candidate. There are indications that IBB would eventually contest the 2011 presidential election on a wider platform to be offered by a coalition of political parties as talks among the parties are said to have reached top gear at weekend. The National Chairman of NDP, Prince Chudi Chukwani, who was a party to one of the meetings told Sunday Tribune that IBB had crossed the rubicon of decision on whether or not to contest. He said IBB has been a General who cannot be intimidated by issues or events, contending that the former Nigerian military president was ready to enter into the presidential ring for the 2011 election having critically surveyed the ground and obtained re-assurances. Chukwuani said the unfolding events in the next couple of days and weeks would convince Nigerians and his supporters nationwide that the resolve by IBB to contest and return to power in 2011 was not a fluke. Also reacting, the Oyo State coordinator of the IBB Campaign Organisation, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi confirmed to Sunday Tribune that the former military president was under intense pressure and might have decided to contest in the elections. According to him, “IBB is a democrat and that was why he allowed the Ciroma committee to decide who should represent the North. But it is sad that the committee was not fair to him because they went beyond their briefs. They were not supposed to have voted, they were expected to brief the stakeholders at the end of their findings.” He also stated that “IBB may have been put under pressure by his loyalists because of several allegations against the committee.” “All these put together, Gbolarumi stressed “were enough to make IBB supporters to pile pressure on him to jettison the consensus deal and contest the presidential election.” Another Hausa leader based in Ibadan, confided in Sunday Tribune that General Babangida may have decided to take his political destiny in his hands and has been telling his associates across the states that “what will be will be and in politics, anything can happen”, a statement that is seen as a veiled reference to his determination to run against the consensus deal. http://www.tribune.com.ng/sun/index.php/front-page-articles/2676-consensus-option-collapses-ibb-to-run-bows-to-pressure-holds-marathon-meetings-with-think-tanks-in-kano-kaduna-minna-lagos |

Halliburton scandal: EFCC corruption charges baseless, says Cheney’s lawyer Font size: Augustine Avwode, Lagos 04/12/2010 01:55:00 Former US VP, Cheney LAWYER to former US Vice-President, Dick Cheney, has described the alleged corruption charges against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as "entirely baseless." Terrence O’Donnell, in a report by AFP on Friday, was emphatic in his dismissal of any suggestion that the former US vice president was involved in a bribery scandal in Nigeria. According to a statement by the attorney, "any suggestion of misconduct on his part (Cheney), made now, years later, is entirely baseless." O’Donnell made it clear that US authorities had investigated the joint venture at the core of the charges and never found him wanting at any time. "The Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission investigated that joint venture extensively and found no suggestion of any impropriety by Dick Cheney in his role of CEO of Halliburton," he said. His comments came after EFCC’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, confirmed plans to file charges as early as next week against the former vice president over the bribery scandal connected to the construction of a liquefied natural gas plant in southern Nigeria. Even though he did not give much details, Babafemi said "they are not unconnected to his role as the chief executive of Halliburton." A prosecutor in the case said joint charges would be filed at the country’s high court in Abuja against Cheney, along with the former and current leadership of the energy giant and others. Officials from the consortium of companies involved in the LNG plant would also be included in the charges to be "placed before the court, latest by Tuesday, next week," said Godwin Obla. @Cheney would face conspiracy charges and a Nigerian judge would be asked to issue an arrest warrant for him, which would be transmitted to INTERPOL,’’ said Obla. "As the CEO of Halliburton, he has the responsibility for acts that occurred during that period," Obla told AFP. Companies in the TSKJ consortium involved in the plant included France’s Technip, Snamprogetti (formerly a subsidiary of a company owned by Italy’s Eni), Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR), and Japan’s JGC. KBR is a former subsidiary of Halliburton, where Cheney served as CEO before becoming vice president under George W. Bush, following elections in 2000. The LNG case involves an alleged 182-million-dollar cash-for-contract scandal over 10 years until 2005. It’s about the construction of the LNG plant in southern Nigeria. Halliburton has denied involvement in the allegations. US authorities said last year that Halliburton and KBR had agreed to pay 177 million dollars to settle charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission in the United States. KBR agreed to pay a further 402 million dollars to settle criminal charges brought by the US Justice Department. http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/20711.html |

Obiagu1: It is a known fact that the campaign for Delta state was a struggle by the Urhobos, Ijaws, Isoko's and Itsekiri's to an extent, while the Igbo's campaigned for Anioma state. There was dissapointment that the capital wasn't cited in Warri, but it is ridiculous to claim that you were somehow scared of an anti-Igbo reaction (except you are Miriams brother), there was no bitterness turned against any Igbo, thats just false. I have to conclude what I already know, that the so called hatred etc you feel are directed against you are all in the mind, with no basis in reality. What would you say about those in places like Igbo market in Warri, did they pack away? Nothing changed for them and they remained welcome. Seriously Obiagu, I cannot imagine why you think anybody hates you. All you are doing is punishing yourself and contracting your horizons. Please stop thinking like that. |

Obiagu1: The bolded is a ton of rubbish if you don't mind. I gave you a website, waado.org, but you argued it was an Urhobo website, which I find not only ridiculous, considering that the Urhobo and Edo where were the majority group in the midwest; that aside, the authors of waado.org are almost all PhD's. I also find it condescending, that you wish to go on ethnocentric conjecture rather than written down history, which has never been contested. I can only advise two things for you to research:
[li]Google Jereton Marierie, James Otobo, Osadabay (that will give you a definite idea of how the Premiership went to Osadebay; and a couple of things need to be corrected in todays politics God bless Ohaneze for their foresight. They have embrased what we've been canvassing for donkey years.)[/li] [li]A very fundamental issue for you to find out, is why the Anioma went with the Midwest movement, rather than seek to drift Eastward[/li]
You will find that your research will reveal in stark and incontestable reality, how the mistakes that were made in the East and North are dominating Nigerian politics today. Mistakes of the past allied with core Northern scheming caused the Igbo to be alienated from politics for decades. The core North, on the other hand is still, in 2010, making the same sort of mistake all 3 major groups in the 3 regions made (and got burnt by to various degree's) in the 60's. Compared to every other region, the South South is by far the most politically sophisticated, because there is no overall dominance by any group. I laugh each time I hear people say it is fake, simply because it isn't based on any of the major groups; thats just bloody funny! After a horrible civil war in the Midwest and east, after numerous ethno-religious pogroms in the North, after Operation Wetie in the West; after serial failures at nationhood, puntuated by violent, half literate armed thugs and their coups, punctuated by tribal laws like Ciroma, Yakasai, Kanti Bello etc; above all, after the numerous bids for freedom by ethnic minorities from the strangle hold of the majorities, from the Birom etc in the Middle Belt to the Edo and Urhobo in the Midwest. . . After all these, people still think being ethnically centred is a way forward? I dey laugh o! |
