The immediate past House of Reps member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo federal constituency Rt. Hon. Hassan Anthony Saleh has condemned in the strongest terms the gruesome murder of Mr Adah Echobu Chris who until his death was a senior lecturer with the Benue State Polytechnic Ugbokolo.

Adah Echobu Chris was killed on Sunday evening along Eke-Ugbokolo expressway by yet to be identified gunmen.

Rt. Hon. Hassan Anthony Saleh who was shocked by the killing expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Adah Echobu Chris and the entire Benue State Polytechnic Community, the former House of Reps member further called on law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend and bring the killers to justice.

PDP Media Influencers Reject New Publicity Secretary, Suggest Showunmi, Olayinka As Preferred Candidates

A group of New Media Influencers in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the PDP Rescue House Group has protested over the micro-zoning of the position of National Publicity Secretary zoned to the Southwest, to Ondo State.

“We are writing this letter from the PDP Rescue House as a formal protest against the candidature of Barr. Debo Ologunagba as the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary Candidate and to also call his competency on Media and publicity experience only into question,” the group said.

The group also demanded that suggest that “the position for the National Publicity Secretary be subjected to a publicity contest among the most formidable media-savvy persons in the South West like Segun Showunmi and Lere Olayinka which the position is zoned to and with the inclusion of Barr. 2023 Zone C Governorship; Internal Cohesion Must Precede Our Aspiration.

"United we stand but divided we fall" is an everyday philosophy sang in our ears yet with little or no application; this is a critical expectation by the youth of Benue south senatorial zones from the elites and political class as we gravitate towards the political season.

The Benue Rebirth Movement (BRM) under the leadership of AVM Monday Riku Morgan (Rtd) had over time generated the desired ripples as an indicator of the yearnings of the good people of zone C to have a taste of the pudding of governing the state; this has been impossible since 1976.

Amidst this great and novel effort by BRM, the young people of zone C still find missing some basic indices of unity among the elites and political class of the zone namely;

1. the total absence of a deliberate attempt from the elites, political gladiators, religious institutions to build a bridge across the segments of tribes in the zone.

2. the absence of synergy among existing political blocks along "Inter and Intra" Party lines.

3. a wide communication gulf between the Predeceasing generation (Our political elites) and the Succeeding generation(the youth).

4. an unhealthy atmosphere of blackmail

5. total absence of demonstration of "Will" by intending actors considering the political limitations of any aspirant of zone C extraction.

6. the audacity of declaration by Aspirants of Zone C governorship which must precede "unification" and "consensus" agreement.

7. an open and vocal negotiation by political leaders of the zone across all party lines as very few are doing so.

We wish to state unequivocally that the above indices are the major indicators that we are watching out for as young people as a proof of readiness by our fathers and political classas we fear that an absence of these spells the repetition of the 2007 political scenario.

As young people, we are harnessing our structures and ready to key into the movement and crusade as we demand an open show of "readiness" and "commitment" by the political class and elites of zone C.

We must as young people desist from practices that will further complicate the political situation we already have, drive positive vibes via our social reportage and feed back to our political structural hierarchy and promote a positive atmosphere for synergy.

There can be no Unity until we learn to love, " We cannot convince and guarantee our TIV brothers of leading them in Love if we cannot love OURSELVES"; lets keep in mind that we cannot give what we do not have.

NCWS AWARD TO GOVERNOR YAHAYA BELLO, A REVERSAL OF WOMEN’S ADVANCEMENT EFFORTS

The office of the PDP National Woman Leader rejects in Its entirety, the ‘Most Gender Friendly Governor’ investiture given to Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello by the President of National Council for Women Societies Nigeria (NCWS), Mrs. Laraba Gloria Shoda, despite the catalogue of political harassments, social inequality, violence against women, sexual harassment and a host of other negative actions against women in Kogi State.

NCWS has as its mandate, the responsibility to protect, advocate and fight for women’s rights globally. It simply amounts to a show of shame that this same organization has gone on to present a gender friendly award to Kogi State governor who:

Has No female Chairman in the 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State

Has No Female House of Representative member from Kogi State

Has No Female Senator from Kogi State

Has No female State House of Assembly member from Kogi State

Has a serving commissioner for water resources in his administration with an active rape case against an innocent young woman named Elizabeth Oyeniyi

Condoned the gruesome murder of an innocent indigene of Kogi State, Mrs. Salome Acheju Abuh whose only crime was that she participated in politics. It is also on record that Governor Yahaya Bello never paid condolence visit to the family of this deceased woman, who was burnt to death in her home by thugs under his administration

Condoned repeated attacks and intimidation against Ms. Natasha Akpoti who was assaulted for daring to participate in opposition politics under the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello

It is indeed heart-breaking and an affront to all Nigerian women, that in the face of mass abuse and assault of women in Kogi state, an umbrella organization such as NCWS vested with the mandate to protect and advocate for women’s rights, has turned around to reward a man who is known to aid violence against women in his administration with a gender friendly award.

We therefore call on all women of conscience to arise up against this mindless antecedent that is orchestrated to reverse all progress made by Nigerian women in the fight against propagation of violence against women.

NCWS as the conscience of Nigerian Women cannot be seen to support actions that are antithetical to the economic, social and political advancement of the women it is mandated to protect.

We therefore invite all women advancement organizations, Pro women NGO’s, Pro gender International organisations, Ministry of Women Affairs of Nigeria and all women in Nigeria to:

Call on NCWS to retract the investiture on Governor Yahaya Bello within 24 hours and tender an unreserved apology to Nigerian women for such colossal betrayal and embarrassment

Ask the President of NCWS, Mrs. Laraba Gloria Shoba to immediately resign her Position as President of NCWS for undertaking such demeaning and utterly humiliating action of rewarding a governor who is known to condone violence against women in his state with an award

Begin immediate disbandment and restructuring of NCWS to serve the purpose of women’s advancement, as the body has lost steam and derailed from its foundational goals of advocating for the advancement of Nigerian women as a pressure group

Constitute an interim caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of NCWS while investigations and restructuring of the organisation begins.

Ado LGC to Help Unbanked Indigenes Own Bank Accounts in Advancing CBN's Financial Inclusion Strategy.


.Appoints Oche Tony Onazi, Esq as Financial Inclusion Focal Person

Plans have been perfected by the Caretaker Chairman of Ado Local Government, Hon. James Oche to embark on opening of bank accounts for unbanked Indigenes of Ado in advancing the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) financial inclusion strategy that will make rural people eligible for opportunities of financial grants and loan facilities.

The chairman who stated this recently in Igumale during a press briefing on his rural transformation agenda explained that, strategic partners including the lead of the program (Central Bank) have been contacted and financial service outlets will soon be set up in all the districts of Ado to help the unbanked rural people own accounts to make them eligible for Government grants and loan facilities which he would personally pursue for his people.

To drive the Financial Inclusion program, the Council boss has appointed Oche Tony Onazi, Esq a human rights lawyer and policy expert to manage the program in a consultative role. Declaring the appointment the Chairman charged Onazi to liaise with the Central Bank team to ensure that the 6, 000 unbanked population of Ado Local Government own Account Number in the next two months.

The Chairman has also in a separate meeting engaged the Social Investment Program team in the Local Government. Receiving the team led b Mr. Godwin Gigi. Comrade Oche emphasized the need to execute the Financial Inclusion program which in his view will put the social investment programs of the Federal and State Government on fast track. The leader of the delegation of the Social Investment team of Ado, Mr. Godwin poured encomium on Comrade Oche and pledged to support his Financial Inclusion team with data at his disposal.

It is no longer news that, barely months to the 2020 target to reduce unbanked Nigerians to 20 per cent, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said the country’s unbanked population currently stands at 37 per cent from the 46 percent it used to be and has encouraged Local Governments especially to pick up the challenge of ensuring it's unbanked population own accounts to benefit from rural grants that will be coming soon.

Hon. James Oche who is determined to put Ado on the map of local governments not just in Benue State but Nigeria has resolved to do all within his ability to move Ado forward.
