Right now i think i will start applying for jobs in UK. I cannot even continue to bear this how long will this take person no know.

Good choice. If this is their goal they have finally achieved it, but leaving families in the dark not knowing their faith is inhumane.

21 decisions today. 21!!!! Non are JFV decisions. What are these people actually doing with our application at this point? Cuz it’s not making sense. If they don’t want to deal with families then scrap the whole category and focus on others. These people do not care about families, especially the ones that are from Nigeria and Ghana. For the system in Ireland to not see anything wrong in this procedure is quite unsettling. I can never advise any family to go through this emotional rollercoaster. Your family’s time with you is precious, every second of it. So if you have other countries in mind please look into them instead.

Anyone have any idea if the Embassy in Nigeria is still processing visa applications following the security alerts? And by the way, I saw they just posted new decisions a few minutes ago and the rejections are staggering. Don’t see any JF looking numbers though.

Should we expect we would be informed if they stopped or took the applications elsewhere for processing?

Honestly those rejections are worrying. I have the same question, but since there are still updating their decisions, it’s safe to say they are still processing applications. If anyone heard or know of the current state of the embassy please do let us know.

Currently I don’t think they are answering any calls, but they do reply to emails. This is their email incase you don’t have it already AbujaVisaOffice@dfa.ie please be very detailed and make sure to include all query/questions that you may have as they may take a day or two to answer to every email you send. As someone who has been through the process, here is my take.

There is no amount of pressure that anyone or group exerts will make the embassy change. Its the bitter truth. There is no amount of research i didn't do or is it the TDs i wrote to?

Two Irish embassies that have been flagged for advanced scrutiny for visas are Nigeria and Pakistan. More recently, Russia. For them its not a delay, its the normal process.

What triggered this were incidents of abuses perpetuated by Nigerians in the past. Fake marriages, fake dependents …especially children. And ireland is extremely protective of children.

Because they pay child benefit above the UK and many European countries, they are very careful admitting families with children.

There are multiple social welfare packages for people with family status. A lot of them are accessed under means test. And so when a sponsors income falls under the means test, such will qualify for welfare. Am not talking 1 or 2 welfare…. In some cases 4 or 5 simultaneous welfare support. It was grossly abused and still being abused. Not only by Nigerians, even the Irish themselves. But among Non-EU residents, Nigerians top the list. Yet, Nigerians make a smaller percent of Non-EU country members admitted into the state. They admit more Chineses, Indians, Brazilians, Americans, than Nigerians. Those people don't queue behind welfare.

Since they cannot change their system because of Nigerians abusing it, they decided to become strict on issuing visas. And by law embassies have a right to modify their visa issuing requirement with or without notice and also a right to disclose or not disclose the parameters for determining an approval or denial.

I even got to know that a particular VO if you talk to him about a visa applicant, thats an automatic denial. I know people who know them. They are not spirits. They are humans and have far or near connections to Nigeria. They know what is happening. They have heard all we are saying here….

For those in Ireland, you already know they dont rush anything in this country. Nothing is urgent.

The current processing time is 10 months to deter people with families from emigrating here. Simple.

My advice:
If your marriage is genuine (believe it or not, there are still lots of people applying for jfv with fake marriage and children) and sponsors income is above all the means test for your family size, you will get your visas.

Before then get busy on other things and the time will pass…. Don't allow the wait become painful or even damage your family please…

May God bless you for this post, it’s like you were listening to my conversation with my husband yesterday. Thank you for speaking the bitter truth. Abeg, I take God beg anybody that is coming to Ireland to add to what some of our people are already doing here, to please think of the people who are going through this process with no other intentions but to be with their loved ones. Think about our people abeg! It is wrong in so many levels, and we are all suffering from it. Look at what is happening in the UK currently! Please the abuse of their generosity needs to stop! I understand say Nigeria no dey try at all, but for the country that are trying, make we still dey give them the respect. They don’t ask for much, all they ask for, is you come in with pure intentions and to build your self and their society with them. The influx of Indians into Ireland is shocking, but the truth remains, they come here to build for themselves and contribute big time to the society, not to take. This application process will only get worse if we can’t help ourselves. Please, let’s do better for ourselves. Abeg!

If its actually like this UK processing it is with Ireland embassy abj, most people here won't be in 9ja now. Sometimes, you wonder what's wrong, what they are checking for 10,12 months, why the delay... The thinking no dey finish. I believe UK embassy 9ja have more application, covid is no more a factor. Just keep hoping and praying, this is the reality.

That’s the crazy part. What is it exactly they are doing with our application for months. Other countries with the same application procedure are not going through this dreadful timeframe. Something is wrong somewhere. Someone once typed here that we should not show desperation in our application, that alone goes to show how strict they are with their approval rate. Why will I not show I am desperate to have my family over to live with me. What kind of discrimination is this! Doesn’t even make sense what they are doing in Abuja.

FfeJ gotten your decision?

Nothing yet, I just want to know if they are even making decisions on Join family visa so I can estimate the time I may get a decision for my husband’s application. No one is saying anything. How can they update 50 decisions and non are join family. When students are no longer applying, so what exactly is stoping them from attending to family?

@femo7 I was asking my self this same question a few days ago. I started searching online for answers if anyone is listening to our cries. If you go to the Houses of the Oireachtas website : https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/search/?q=Family%20reunification%20Nigeria&sort=relevance You can literally search and see deputies asking the minister for justice questions regarding the delays In family reunification in the Abuja embassy compared to other countries. The answer they all got back was a copy and past of the same automated response we get when we email them. In other words, they literally don’t care if we are being treated unfairly. If the Nigerian government don’t do anything about this, I’m afraid we will be stuck in this same cycle. Please everyone keep voicing out this injustice, I pray we will be the change, I pray things change soon.

I saw on their website that they are yet to appoint a new Ambassador. The last appointed Ambassador was Síle Maguire.

@omapere nothing at all, they are not picking any of their calls. I honestly don’t know what to do anymore, than to leave everything in God’s hands. I don’t know why they are treating Nigerians like this.

Oh Gosh this is disheartening. What can we do to resolve this? Eveb if it’s just to let them know we are tired and want change. I am ready to go to any protest regarding this. Discrimination and racism in this 21st century should not be swept under the rug and letting them get away with this. How can they be giving Indians and Philippians JFV in less than 1 month. Are we not humans like them? This is so unfair.
