Whatever you think of me, subsidy is no longer sustainable.

Reality is not favorable to us all the time.

Lord knows, I wish it was other wise, I effing wish it was otherwise.

Oga, subsidy is sustainable if we subsidize our true consumption. The people should not be punished for the failure of the politicians.

Government is about the people and not about the politicians. We claim we have no money for subsidy but they have money for the Unending looting.

There are still a lot of things to be done before total subsidy removal. They should go after the subsidy thieves and close our borders to smuggling products.

They should prosecute and jail defaulters. They should subsidize our true consumption which is about 15million liters a day and not the 66 million liters they claim due to corruption.

They should reduce the cost of governance , their allowances and lots of waste to be cut first. Government is about the people and not about the politicians.

They should fix the power sector and provide enablers for the manufacturing sector

There are lots to be done before total removal of subsidy. Everyday we hear this politician stole 130 billon, another 77 billion….. unending looting.

They should not transfer the inefficiencies of governance to the people. These criminals in power must be held accountable

Regardless, subsides were no longer sustainable.

Calm down.

Your propaganda on the forum is built on deceit. Subsidy is sustainable if we subsidize our true consumption and reduce cost of governance.

And at the end of the day, while you are right, the problem is, we are not earning enough money in the first place

All those inefficencies are what make the matter worse.

Subsidy was no longer sustainable, as much as we would love to disagree.

P.S : In 2012, GEJ tried to remove subsidy, reason being that subsidy costs in 2011, were thrice subsidy costs in 2010. Also, subsidy costs in 2011 ate 60% of our oil earnings...and were on track to eat all of it.

Same thing happening now.

We should fight corruption, but it still doen't change the reality.

I really wish I was lying....but we don't earn enough from oil , and cutting costs won't do much.

Countries that are rich earn a lot of money from 1) taxes 2) selling manufactured goods and services.

We produce as much oil as Qatar...and we share the revenue for a population of 220 million compared to Qatar's less than 2 million. That's why Qatar can host a world cup, while we can't.

Being an oil producing country does not mean that fuel would become 'affordbale'

There are many oil producing countries where fuel is sold at an expensive rate.

Plus, our main issue is that we earn the same amount from oil as Qatar, with 200 times the population. As such the oil money is not and has never been enough

You guys should stop this deceit. They should go after the subsidy thieves and close our borders to smuggling products.

The reality us that the 8 years of the Buhari administration completely messed up the economy, dragging it down and loading it with mountains of debt.

So, correcting it won't be easy. The 2 most painful reforms have already been implemented which are ending fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rates. These 2 policies will not only reduce waste but massively increase government revenues overnight.

It is also too early to judge things. Ministers have yet to be appointed. Who would be appointed as the finance minister is crucial as well as the next governor of the central bank.

Today marks the 28th day of this government. A better flashlight might be first 100 days in office.

You don’t implement such policies like it’s knee jerk. What plans are in place to cushion the effect on the people?
What are savings reinvestment plans?
Why not a gradual removal of the subsidies, why must they happen on day 1?, you want to kill the people you intend to save?
Where. Are the savings from diesel and kerosene subsidy removal?

Nigerians have no clue what is coming, It will be almost impossible to survive for some.

For an import driven economy like Nigeria, this is a dead end and if Nigerians are lucky, there might be an uprising that the FG might be unable to manage. Otherwise... many will die and the deaths will be in large numbers.

These criminals in power are not serious. I already predicted this outcome way back

https://www.nairaland.com/7733529/households-under-pressure-new-electricity#123891198

Naira has been devalued (though they call it floating). The FG has handed over the exchange to the market forces where speculators and banks are king. Naira continues to fall in the I/E and parallel market. Anybody who tells you Naira will appreciate is a joker, for a corrupt country like ours, the banks and speculators are the new cabal and will drive the rates how they deem fit. Don’t believe…. Just observe. What most don’t get now is that CBN now has no obligation to provide FX at a particular rate to the market, as such the new FG players can access FX from CBN without noise.

This is how minimum wages are raised in sane countries. Some business will fold, some will expand, new industries will come into play, real entrepreneurs will adjust prices and demand more from workers....and life goes on. Why do you think productivity is high abroad...they pay but you do the job of 4 people in Nigeria for UK....even your body will say I feel it

This is Nigeria not UK. You guys should stop lame comparisons
UK businesses don’t generate their own power
UK business don’t rely on poor infrastructures

Nigeria does not have the business enablers available in the UK. Have you actually managed a business in Nigeria? A govt that does not even know its true population will enforce minimum wage on private businesses? Really?

I agree with this amount as well, but keep in mind it will automatically increase corpers allowances to N70k for all students serving. Lets hope the Govt can meet up...but most especially I believe they should allow the private sectors to gradually implement any upward review in Minimum wage...maybe by Dec ending for employees 10 or more...N50k and by end of next year, N70k implementation for private sector implementation and enforcement. The Govt must ENFORCE. That is why abroad is SANE. You have to post the minimum wage at your place of business for your employees.

Do you guys actually mean what you say?

You expect small and medium scale business that are already folding up due to cost of power and multiple taxation to increase salary on top the increased cost of doing business?

Una Dey reason some of these things at all? Nigerians still have no clue what is coming

nairalanda1:

Thanks, I already know all that.

There is some discussion about selling to Dangote in naira....the naira equivalent of what the international price of crude oil is at that time.

It won't lead to a reduction in fuel prices, and I don't expect it to. After all, it is business. People have to make money (the last time price controls across the board were tried...in former communist countries...they all collapsed, or became capitalist. North Korea is the only country where price controls are a way of life, and the black market there thrives. People love to make money...rule no 1 of human beings)

And fuel costs money to produce......expecting cheap fuel is like me dreaming that I married the last 5 winners of Miss Universe last week. Refining, transporting, etc, e dey cost money well well.

Even with the subsidy, we were still paying high prices. In the form of loans and more loans.

Crude will not be sold to Dangote in naira. That is inverse economics. Nigeria needs the fx to balance its trade

Dangote does not need the naira either, he is operating in a global industry traded in USD. His loans are in USD. He also will not be selling refined products only to Nigeria

Nigerians need to manage their expectations

He will sell fuel in naira. He may also buy crude to refine into petrol in naira.

Hahahaha, you have no clue.

The NNPC/ Dangote refinery agreement is there in the open. Crude will be sold to Dangote at the prevalent global market price in USD while refined product price will follow global prices at the prevalent exchange rate.

Dangote ain’t giving you any cheap pms. You will only save shipping cost but Tinubu already plans to reintroduce that cost to Nigerians through taxes.

Do your research

And lest we forget

1. 7.5% VAT on diesel
2. Fuel subsidy removed
3. Electricity tariff hiked
4. University tuition increased to 400K+
5. Naira devalued
6. Same old politicians lined up to continue the looting

While
7. FG Votes ₦24 Billion For 10th NASS Members’ Accommodation
8. Elected Politicians, Judges Set To Get 114% Salary Raise

Anybody still in doubt should have all their doubts cleared at this time. All of the policies so far is to make more money available for looting ….. the Nigerian masses are not part of the plan. Tinubu’s game is to ensure the poor masses subsidize the political class. This is his style of political leadership.

The only solution is Nigerians must shun tribalism and religion and hold these politicians responsible. Or else we will all die.
