Thanks for the explanation. She is actually old and retired so i guess it wont be an issue.

puffmama:

The 2 years visa is multiple entries so she is permitted to use it as often as she likes we long as she does not over stay .
In time past, as long as you dont overstay the 6 months stamped it was not an issue but these days , actually just before covid it became an issue ..you won't be totally refused but you will be given a 221g to come for a physical interview as long as you can explain why you stayed longer than indicated then it will be approved .

I would always advise people , the first time or using a recently renewed visa , use the exact period specified , the other uses since no form filled you can stay as long as you can within the period stamped but long stay can affect your renewal in future .
The way the consular officers think is this, If you have a job or business in Naija why would you go for a vacation longer than 2-4 weeks .
Anything longer unless it's for medical reason , they assume you went to work .
The elderly can stay longer especially if they went to help care for their grandkids or they are retired . But for younger people Its a serious red flag. They assume you are trying to Japa in am illegal way

Hi everyone. I still need help/advice

Hi, I will suggest you University of Wisconsin as I know a Nigerian that went to Indiana for MBA last year and it was really difficult in terms of funding and all. But if Money is not a problem and you care for ranking that much you can go to Indiana.

How is what I said becomes your own headache? How many I-20 have I seen...... you must have thought I come here to crack a joke. How could her sister's name (another int'l student) be on the I-20? Probably you don't know what you're saying yourself. If you claim to be a follower of this thread, then you don't need schooling to be experienced on what not to say in your visa interview.

Yes I repeat the same question how many I-20 have you seen? I am her sister and my name is on the I-20, you think because you have been answering people here for long you know everything. Do you know how many other people I have helped without coming here to talk about it, I don't come here all the time because I don't have the time as much and I really applaud you people that have been of help. so Kindly take a CHILL Pill as I said earlier Bro.

Her uncle alone will get her the visa if she's going to get the visa. From the beginning of the interview her sister has nothing to do with the interview. Sponsor on your I-20 is the most important and I haven't seen where they put sponsor as uncle, mom and sister altogether. They have to leave her uncle and check her sister since she offered to talk about her so much. Volunteering info is not good. She's lucky to get it, some people have nailed offering unnecessary info.

Hi Bro, I suggest you should take a chill pill in this case, how many I-20's have you seen? if her sisters name was not on it, then she wouldn't have mentioned her at all, and you're mentioning about inexperience how is a kid who just finished high school supposed to be experienced.

Volunteering of unnecessary info is bad.

But why

Outcome of volunteering info.

Even an incomplete SOA from your uncle. And why you still put your sister into this again when she's not your sponsor? She's not taking care of your living expense my friend, you're only going to live with her (what you supposed to say)

You don't even have her statement of account. She's only an ordinary student who depends on school funding.

This interview is terrible and shows lots of inexperience. There are many info you volunteered on your own, which in your case don't help. Good you got it but others should learn from this and never state things terrible like this.

Hi @imperiouxx, you guys are doing a good Job here, helping people but I think you shouldn't Jump to conclusions like that, she had to mention her sister and bro as sponsors because those names are on her I-20. so even if she gave too much info as you said her sister's statement and contract for the following year was what they saw and finally give the Visa.Thank you

I don't question her abilities. Her score could be low for many reasons, that doesn't mean she can't do better next time. The gentleman came for opinion and I offered my honest opinion, that the score cannot fly. She already scaled the first hurdle, a good GPA. Why not encourage her to scale the GRE hurdle too? When I said "disgrace", I meant that the GRE score is embarrassing to that GPA.

GRE is not a function of your GPA, its your preparation and God entirely. She can get funding and TA, with that score I got TA and tution waiver with that score, lets not be too harsh. If she can write again it is very good. i couldn't do that because of my job and all.

Hello everyone. Im not very active on this thread. However i took ample time to study all the manuscripts. My visa got approved today to the glory of God. It can only be God. Thank you Nairaland.

V.O : so, why New England College

Me: the school is ranked by world report and USnews.com as best regional school in the north as far as my course is concerned. Also the school has a track record tailored to what i want to study. Student faculty ratio is 19:1. It has seasoned professionals both on field and in research, the like of Dr. Lori Koziol who is an outstanding scholar in the field of translational bioinformatics( v.o cuts in)

V.O : When did you finish university

Me: in 2013

V.O : What have you been doing since then.

Me: After NYSC, i have been working as a medical officer at the federal medical center Lagos, where i treat general medical cases. I manage uncomplicated medical emergencies in all age groups. I also administer and monitor vaccination in immunization clinic. My work involves keeping tract of vast amounts of data recorded manually hence my choice of course..(cuts in).

V.O : I will be approving your visa.( hands me white paper and circles pickup address)bla bla...

I went blank and didn't hear the rest of all what he was saying.

Advice- be audible, coherent in speech and confident. Maintain a genial eye contact and speak fluently( without faking any accent).

Congratulations. #teamfall2017

Good morning all, I want to use this opportunity to specially thank God almighty for his grace and favor in the course of my US movement. And I want to thank Mr Seun (Shayhune) who helped me after my second Denial last week. He volunteered to help me through the whole process and mock interview. God bless you. And to everyone else that corrected me when I posted my transcript last week, thank you too. God bless everyone. After 2 denials (April 28 and May 18) I finally got my visa approved today (May 24). I went 3 times in less than a month, I wasn't going to relent because I'm not a quitter nor a dull guy although It's all the Grace of God. The 2 times I was denied, as I was leaving Walter carrington I went straight to a GTBank branch to pay the 64k again for the appointment. I told myself I wasn't going to quit and I'm going to the US whatever it took, the same way I told myself back then I wasn't going to any other school asides from Unilag when I left secondary school and people were discouraging me but I tried till I got my admission. Let me cut the story short. I chose the 6:30 appointment because I was told the VOs are always livelier in the morning and as such I should make sure I'm in the first 3-5 people on the queue inside. So I did that I was the second person to enter the consulate but by the time we got to the queue for the visa, I was third on the queue. So the fresh young guy VO called the first guy in front and the CGI guy told the girl behind him to follow him and queue behind him in front of the VO. So I was left in front, 5 seconds later I was called by a VO, mind you this VO was ruthless the last time I went for the interview. He was denying everyone that came to meet him that day, I guess he was in a bad mood or he only asked technical questions that the people weren't prepared for, I was praying not to get him that day but then I still got denied.lol. So as I walked towards him I just said "God take control". So he said Good morning and I answered Good morning and how was your night.
VO: Night was good and yours?
Me: Was alright too.
VO: So tell me what interested you in this school that made you choose it.
Me: My research interest aligns with that of a professor(Cuts me)
VO: What research interest?
Me: Embedded systems in power electronics.
VO: What is Embedded systems
Me: An embedded system is a computer system with a dedicated function on a larger electrical system (I just learnt that last night, didn't know what the research Entailed before last night, something just told me to google and know the definition of all the words in the research name)
VO: So what will you be doing with this professor?
(I didn't know what to say as I didn't prepare for that question)
Me: The research is designed like your mobile phone where all the electronic circuits on the motherboard in the phone have a dedicated function in a larger electrical system which is the phone in its entirety. (Na idea I use, that was just an example of embedded system wey I repackage)
VO: What school did you have your bachelors?
Me: University of Lagos.
Types for 5seconds and asks me to pick my visa in 3 days, I didn't expect it. It didn't last up to a minute and he didn't look at me once throughout, he was just typing and asking the questions. I was waiting for questions like "Who's paying"?,"What school and what course?", "What do you do now?. etc.
I'm very happy. I was confident and very calm this time because not being calm cost me at my last interview. I was the first person issued a white paper today at the Lagos Consulate as that guy in front of me was still with that fresh VO guy and so was the girl behind him. Thanks to everyone for their encouraging transcripts and words. It's God at the end of it all, I prayed to God and emptied my pocket in church last Sunday and told God to help me this week and he did. Let me stop my epistle here, sorry I'm used to writing epistles.

Congrats.

Yes some banks wont give PTA to one way but others do....so you have to check with some banks before you buy

But then again you need to make the calculation on what the difference in price between one way and return ticket ..that amount verus the PTA exchange rate verus black market rate . ... the difference might not be worth getting PTA

Thank you

Above all, it was a great experience. All thanks to God and my padi @Oludare1. baba and him oga overcriticize me during the mock interview.*One orijin onike for una* grin.
@imperiouxx, @bartino, @lagosismyhome thanks to you guys for your advise, when i almost lied on the DS160 and you guys criticized and advised me against it. Knowing i was honest with my application, i was a bit more confident at the interview.
