Sports / The Invasion Of Rappers On Star Football Superfans by FootyJunkie: 4:00pm On Jul 17, 2015
Obanubi Ayoola Olaniyi made quite an impression on this week’s episode of the Star Lager sponsored football platform, Star Football Superfans with an eclectic rap performance which made the audience spring to their feet in delight.

One of the five Chelsea fans that starred on the show, the 32 year-old technician, while representing his team True Blues on the Show Your Passion segment of the show, remixed the street rap hit, 'Awon Goons Mi' in praise of Chelsea FC. He backed up his short performance with an energetic display of hip thrusting and wiggling which inspired the audience to sing and dance along.

Unfortunately for him, his opposite number Oyinlusi Rotimi Ezekiel from Glory FC, put on an even more incredible performance, doing his own rendition of "Tesojue" which got the boisterous audience on his side.

The show ended in favour of Rotimi and his four fellow Real Madrid supporters, Obidike Benjamin, Olutade Rotimi, Babatunde Abiola and Filani Olumide Samuel, who went home with the N1m grand prize and this week's bragging rights. Ayoola and his colleagues, Olanipekun Oluwaseun Emmanuel, Callistis Ngwu, Ayeni Tokunbo Bamidele and Oyelami Taofeek Kola thus had to make do with the N100,000 consolation prize.

Sponsored by Star Lager, the Star Football SuperFans campaign kicked off eleven weeks ago. It aims to test and reward the knowledge and passion of football fans.

Sports / Does Man United Have The Most Loyal Supporters On Star Football Superfans? by FootyJunkie: 10:54pm On Jun 17, 2015
If loyalty were the yardstick used to judge football fans, then Manchester United fans Deola Gbadebo, Chidiebere Nwosu, Emmanuel Euba, Anthony Nwumeh and Sunday Augustine, who made up the Fortune Red Team on this week’s Star Football Superfans deserve the tag ‘Superfans’.
The quintet, rather than wallow in self pity, geared up and produced a rousing performance on the 'Show Your Passion' segment despite having just gone 2-0 down to Gunners FC and knowing that the game had been lost. It was a truly beautiful footballing 'Kodak' moment.

Gunners FC, which comprised Onyeka Iloka, Siedu Akeem, Samuel Onuoha, Tosin Adeleye and Kadiri Adebayo on their part showed no mercy to the unlucky Fortune Reds as Onyeka came up with an even better performance which won the crowd's vote to put the final score at 3-0.
It had been a close game in truth, but Gunners FC had been just that little bit better and were deserved winners of the N 1m star prize while the gallant Fortune Reds went home with the N100, 000 consolation prize.

Commenting on the outcome, Kufre Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries, said, “For the past nine weeks, this is the kind of excitement that Star Football Superfans has brought to football fans across Nigeria. The excitement the show brings to the minds of football lovers all over the country has proved that indeed fans are as important as the players on the pitch and we at Star are proud to be giving them a platform to express themselves’

Sports / Chelsea Just Cannot Seem To Win On Star Football Superfans TV Show by FootyJunkie: 10:23pm On Jun 17, 2015
Without a doubt, Chelsea’s victory at the EPL finale last weekend did nothing to help the form of Festus, Odafe Arugba, Anthony Effiong, Adeleye Stephen and Michael Osa, the quintet that represented the club on this week’s episode of Star Lager sponsored football game show, Star SuperFans.

At the beginning of the show, Blues FC, as they dubbed their team, puffed and raged about their readiness to shine but their pride soon gave way when they began failing their questions and tasks.

As expected, the opposing team, Red Devils, comprising Manchester United fans, Chukwuma Ottah, Unogu Armstrong, Adebayo Sola, David Ndinne and Lucky Otabor, rode on their weakness and won the N1m winning prize as well as the bragging rights as SuperFans of all superfans.

The Star Football SuperFans platform seeks to encourage the passion football fans have towards the game with a weekly reward of N1.1m to deserving participants.
Sports / Chelsea’s Losing Streak Continues On Star Football Superfans by FootyJunkie: 10:16pm On Jun 17, 2015
For eight weeks now, Star Lager has powered Nigeria’s largest football TV gameshow, Star Football SuperFans and in that time, Chelsea fans have recorded only one win. This week’s episode saw them maintain that dreadful run of form on the platform through which Star rewards football fans for the passion and knowledge regarding the game.

The unlucky Chelsea quintet known as Blues FC, made up of Ike Festus, Odafe Samson Arugba, Anthony Effiong, Adeleye Stephen and Unuagbon Michael Osa fell 0-2 in extra time after ending full time with the score at 0-0. Team Red Devils, made up of Manchester United fans Gabriel Chukwuma Ottah, Unogu Armstrong Nnaji, Adebayo David Sola, David Onyinyechi Ndinne and Otabor Lucky were the lucky guys who took the N1 million star prize home while Blues FC had to make do with the N100, 000 consolation prize.

Host Mozez Praiz has presided over clashes which had more goals and more incidents, but he probably found this episode the most passionate as both teams made it ferociously clear that they wanted to win. Both missed their first two questions but once Anthony scored the game’s first 10-pointer for Blues FC, the game sparked into life. Sola and Stephen then scored 20-pointers for Red Devils and Blues FC respectively before David and Michael responded with 10-pointers of their own. Lucky’s miss ensured the first half ended at 0-0.

The second half kicked off in much the same pattern with both teams trying repeatedly but failing to make incursions into the opposing territory. Only one question was answered correctly as both teams revved up the 20-pointers to leave the full time score at 0-0.

Then came the fun part.

Odafe of Blues FC faced off against Armstrong of Team Red Devils to debate whether Manchester United has been replaced as England’s top team by Chelsea. Even before the vote was cast, the winner was obvious as Armstrong comprehensively took him to the cleaners, leaving the entire crowd chanting “Armstrong! Armstrong! Armstrong!” .It was no surprise when Mozez Praiz announced the result – a goal to the Red Devils. and the N1 million in sight!

Stephen of Blues FC had to make an impression on the audience to salvage the game for his team and force a penalty shootout, but unfortunately his bum-wiggling rendition of “E wo won b’on se n wo wa!” did little to set the audience alight and it was lucky who got them out of their seats in enthusiasm with his energetic fan chant backed up by the live band.

Finally it was time to unveil the winner of the vote and the winner of the N1 million star prize and everyone waited with bated breath as Mozez Praiz announced – Team Red Devils! The audience erupted into further chants of “Armstrong! Armstrong! Armstrong!” as the most popular man in the house celebrated joyfully.

Speaking afterwards, Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries, Kufre Ekanem said, “Star Football SuperFans is the pinnacle of Star’s dedication to football in Nigeria. I say this because football is not primarily about big name players or high profile tournaments – it is about the fans who make the game the world’s number one sport. All too often, the role of the fans in making football what we all know and love is understated, and this is why we have put this platform together – to appreciate and reward these wonderful supporters for making this sport the beautiful game.”

Sports / Milan And Barca Fans Gobble Chelsea Fans On Star Football Superfans by FootyJunkie: 5:12pm On May 26, 2015
It was total destruction on episode 7 of Star Football SuperFans, Nigeria’s biggest football game show as Team MilaBarca FC comprehensively outplayed and outscored Team Stamford FC 4-0 to win the N1 million grand prize. Sponsored by Star Lager as part of a large number of customer reward and recognition platforms, the Star Football SuperFans TV game show has rewarded football fans for their knowledge and passion for six weeks and this week’s episode saw another set of passionate football fans win big.

MilaBarca’s Tayo kicked off the rout for his team of AC Milan and Barcelona supporters with a correct 20-pointer which resulted in a goal. From that point, Stamford FC had no way back with the score ending up at 2-0 at full time. Extra time brought no respite as MilaBarca’s Vincent merely piled on the pressure after winning the debate segment to increase the score to 3-0.

Tayo, the day’s outstanding performer completed the rout after winning the ‘Show Your Passion’ segment to leave the final score at 4-0 after a very mismatched game. Stamford FC thus went home with the N100,000 consolation prize while the victorious MilaBarca got to go home with this week’s bragging rights in addition to the star prize.

Sports / 53 Year-old Grandfather Displays Unmatched Passion On STAR Football Superfans by FootyJunkie: 1:11pm On May 26, 2015
This week’s episode of Star Football Superfans, Nigeria's biggest football gameshow sponsored by Star Lager featured one of the most exciting moments since the show began seven weeks ago.

53-year-old Vincent Okorie, a grandfather and resident of Ikorodu, Lagos State brought the audience to its feet when he scored MilaBarca FC's third goal with his fiery performance during the extra time debate segment, effectively putting the game out of opponent Stamford FC's reach to secure Star Lager’s N1 million grand prize for his team.

According to Okorie who is currently studying French and International Relations at National Open University Nigeria, the victory was as a result of well-deserved one, one that he and his teammates, Kazeem, Michael, Tayo and Uche prayed and prepared hard for.

Okorie’s team, MilaBarca won the N1m star prize after defeating their opponent, Stamford FC made up of Chelsea fans, Ayodele, Frank, Adedeji, Chinedu and Ike.

Sports / Man United Fans Remain Resolute Despite Loss To Arsenal FC Fans by FootyJunkie: 10:03am On May 20, 2015
Fans no matter the outcome’ was the case of Manchester United fans Chuwkuyelu Ejike, Muhammed Babatunde, Ezeh Collins, Oyetunji Adeyemi and Francis Oghenewedrhe who made up the Adoration FC team on this week’s episode of Nigeria’s biggest football game show, Star SuperFans.

The quintet stayed resolute and magnanimous even in defeat after suffering a painful 1-2 reversal on the weekly football game show powered by Star lager. They thus had to make do with the N100,000 consolation prize.

Their opponents, Positive FC made up of Arsenal fans Ernest Alakiri, Francis Enujekwu, Olayinka Ariwajoye, Oliver Udorie and Mayowa Akinsola overcame them after a tactically flawless performance to emerge winners of the N1m star prize and the bragging rights as Superfans of all superfans.

Sports / Arsenal Fan Wins N1 Million For Knowing Club History by FootyJunkie: 11:12am On May 15, 2015
Have you ever found yourself thinking that your extensive knowledge of football trivia should really be rewarded? When you are the only one in your family and friend circle who can answer those seemingly impossible football questions like “On which arm does Lionel Messi have a tattoo?” or “In which year did Jay Jay Okocha score his first goal in his professional career?” or “What was the last club Sunday Oliseh played for in the Nigerian league?” don’t you feel like an under-appreciated genius who deserves to be recognized for such knowledge and passion?

Oliver Chilem Udorie of Positive FC faced this exact situation on this week’s episode of Nigeria’s biggest football game show, Star SuperFans. The very first question on the Star Lager-sponsored show was “The first live television coverage of a football match in 1937 involved what Premier League team? Liverpool? Aston Villa? Arsenal? Manchester United?” While his teammates fidgeted and winced at the perceived difficulty of the 20-point question, the lifelong Arsenal fan smiled and calmly answered “Arsenal.”

Host Mozez Praiz, perhaps stunned at the calmness of his answer needled him “Are you sure about that Oliver? Were you there in 1937?” Without wavering he answered, “I wasn’t there.” “Are you sure?” Mozez Praiz pressed further. “Yes,” he said. “Correct!” said Mozez Praiz and the audience exploded as Positive FC moved to the edge of Adoration FC’s penalty box. This turned out to be the defining moment of the game as Positive FC stayed on the front foot until the end of the game which ended 2-1 in their favour. The grand prize of N1 million and this week’s bragging rights thus went to Oliver and his four teammates Ernest Alakiri, Mayowa Akinsola, Francis Enujekwu and Olayinka Ariwajoye, while Adoration FC had to make do with the N100,000 consolation prize.

Think you can do it too? The Star Football SuperFans TV game show runs for fourteen weeks and you can register here for an opportunity win N1 million for your football knowledge and passion for the game in Star Lager’s latest customer reward platform.

Sports / Meet Trust, The Man With The Trustworthy Nerves On Star Football Superfans by FootyJunkie: 10:53am On May 15, 2015
Trust Monday Andah is one brave man. After full-time and extra time on Nigeria’s biggest football gameshow powered by premium beer Star Lager, the game was deadlocked at 1-1 with both teams refusing to give an inch to each other and for the first time since the game show started, penalties would be needed to separate the two sides. It was now up to him to step up and be counted. He came up first in the sudden-death penalty shootout, which involved scoring a blind, back heeled penalty into a small goalpost at the centre of the studio.

For his team Five Star FC made up himself and five other passionate Arsenal fans, Chinedu Mmadu, Ejike Madueke, James Samuel and Kelechi Ohaju. The stakes could not be higher. Score this penalty and give themselves a big chance of winning the N1 million star prize and the bragging rights for this week as SuperFans of all SuperFans. Miss it and present Ultimate FC, made up of five Chelsea fans Patrick Oti, Babatunde Clement, Timothy Ike, Collins Ugwu and Chukwuma Oragui with a chance to score theirs without pressure and win the prize.

Show host Mozez Praiz asked him “Are you ready? Are you sure you know what is at stake?” He wordlessly nodded his reply and steadied himself. The audience fell silent and his teammates held each other in silent supplication. He hit a clean backheel which rolled straight into the goal – cue celebration and an outpouring of relief from his teammates as the pressure was now on Ultimate FC’s Collins Ugwu. “Miss this and you’ve lost Collins, do you understand that?” Mozez Praiz asked. “Yes,” he said looking sick with tension. He steadied himself and swung – mishitting his back heel and sending the ball well wide of the left-hand post, sparking wild jubilation from Five Star FC as they were finally crowned champions!
“OLE! OLE OLE, OLE ! OLE!” they sang riotously as the N1 million cheque was presented to them amidst joyful, celbratory scenes.

Fashion / Confessions Of The 'corper' That Spent N4,000,000 In A Mall by FootyJunkie: 7:36pm On May 08, 2015
It’s not every time I get the luxury of waking up past 8AM. I mean being a Corper teacher in Nigeria is not the most fabulous experience, but today is a public holiday, so scrap it, I was determined to have a good ‘full day’ rest, the kind that not even hunger or some emergency CDS meeting (Community Development Service) would make me stand up from my very comfortable 4 by 5 mattress.

As I prepared to go back to sleep, I rolled over to the edge of my bed, and luckily for me, I found the left overs of my Fayrouz pineapple drink- that could only mean one thing, my housemates were yet to enter my room. Quickly, I downed the drink and picked up the latest addition to my magazine rack, The April issue Of Complete Fashion magazine which I bought because it had my Nollywood idol, the beautiful Omoni Oboli on the cover. As I flipped the cover page, I hear my phone beep. This particular alert only means one thing, “my God don WIN” and it beeps when allowee enters.

But wait o! I don’t get. Is this a miracle alert? This BB won’t stop hanging, my enemies are at work but I shall conquer. Finally, I opened the message…
…Behold! what I saw shocked me to pieces.

It read, ‘Your account has been credited with N4,000,000’. I ran to the bathroom, washed my face and read again. It couldn’t be, the same 6 zeros staring back at me. I wore my traffic Ray Ban glasses 6 zeros still.

N4,000,000 just like that? From who? For what? How? What do I do?

Ok I think I should call my account officer, no.. I should call Fatima she would know what to do. And so I called. “Fatima, my bank just credited my account with N4,000,000 ..I’m confused” The minute I said Naira I heard the phone drop and for someone that takes 2 hours to get to my house, in less than forty-five minutes she was at my door knocking with so much energy.

I asked her why she was so much in a hurry and she replied, “See I no wan know how the money land your account, We gaz spend this thing before dem soji for ya bank”

That was my cue. Like I said Fatima, always knows what to do I played along sharp sharp.

‘Money deserves no respect’ she will yell at us every time we rebuke her for spending so much on shopping.

The cab down to Lekki mall from my corper apartment in Ketu, took less than fifteen minutes, please don’t ask me how. Yes, it had to be Lekki Mall we are big girls now. The moment we got to the mall, the spree began. Like the shopaholics that we are, we were darting in and out of the most expensive shops, swiping my very sleek and rich bank card and filling bags.

What did we not buy? Swarvoski jewelries and purses, Hermes bags, Zannoti Sandals, Micheal Kors Watches, Watchesss o and not to forget the Rolex of my dreams, Christian Louboutins Shoes, MAC make up sets and so much more.

We didn’t stop, for everything we thought we liked or could like, we bought, without thinking twice. This was the life! The good life… we felt like Carrie BradShaw and Samantha of Sex and the City on the loose.

The shopping continued till past 8pm while buying the Prada shoes, one that I have coveted for so long, we got another alert!

We had exhausted every kobo, sad right? But boy did we feel so good looking at all our shopping bags.

As we took a cab back home, we kept screaming with excitement and listing names of friends we were going to taunt; Shola, Ifeoma, Hauwa, Annie, Tega, and every one that have ever mocked us at one point or the other.

Wait o! I hear my name. Who knows me here, or am I famous already? but the voice sounds so familiar, What? the Landlady?

Oh my!

Don’t tell me this is a dream. No it can’t be! Nooooooo

But, wait a minute what if I really had N4M, what will I do with it?

Don’t be a dreamer like me. Fayrouz L’Original competition is giving a team of a designer, a photographer, a make up artist and a model the chance to win 4MILLION NAIRA for real and launch their dreams.

Entries are open to undergraduates, fresh graduates and NYSC members from Nigeria and closes this Saturday May 9, 2015.

The auditions train will make its first stop at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan on Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16 2015 its next stop will be at the University of Port Harcourt on May 22nd and 23rd, then University of Nigeria Enugu on the 29th and 30th , and its final stop at University of Lagos on the 5th and 6th of June 2015

Sports / Star Superfans: Amazing Blues Not Amazing At All by FootyJunkie: 8:23am On May 01, 2015
On a day when just about everything had gone wrong for Amazing Blues FC and they had managed to score just one question correctly out of seven, the team of five Chelsea fans were lucky to be only 2-0 down on this week’s episode of Star Football SuperFans. It could be have been three or four and game over already if the Shining Stars team of Barcelona fans had been more clinical. This episode of Nigeria’s biggest football gameshow powered by premium beer Star Lager, seemed to be almost done and dusted and the N1 million prize money heading to the Blaugrana.

Show host Mozez Praiz presented Chigbogu Paulinus, Agbowa Ugochukwu, Okwudili Okafor, Akinmosu Ibrahim and Owhofactor Esere with the chance to claw their way back into the game with the Show Your Passion segment and the responsibility fell on Owhofactor Esere who had just seen Joshua Iheanacho of Shining Stars raise the roof off the building with the humorous anti-Chelsea chant. “Chelsea fans! Dem dey park bus! Chelsea fans! Dem dey block bridge!”

He took the stage in front of an expectant audience and steadied himself: “This is going to be good”, the audience was probably thinking. Then he started – “Chelsea kwenu! Kwenu! Chelsea is the best team in England! Everybody who jam them go collect! They are the best team! Don’t play with Chelsea o!”

The audience sat in silence, watching as he continued, wriggling his body energetically, “No try Chelsea o! Mourinho don win Wenger, win Wenger, win Wenger, win Wenger, win Wenger…” A woman cupped her mouth and whispered something to the person seated next to her. He broke out in laughter. The somewhat embarrassed and distinctly unimpressed audience gives some polite, half-hearted applause and Mozez Praiz returned to centre stage to ask the crowd to vote.

Unsurprisingly, the crowd voted for Shining Stars and the score changed to 3-0. The next round of competition was just a formality as the game had been won and lost at this stage, and in any case, that round too ended up going to Shining Stars. 4-0 the final score and the Amazing Blues looked more like the Amazing Blues of Wigan Athletic than of Chelsea FC.

Sports / Golden United In Thrilling Comeback Win Over Awesome Blues In Star Superfans Epi by FootyJunkie: 3:04pm On Apr 26, 2015
When show host Mozez Praiz asked why the teams on this week's episode of the Star SuperFans gameshow chose their names, he could not have expected the reply he got from the team of Manchester United fans, "The name (Golden United) has been ordained. There is no team in the world that is superior to Manchester United." The air of supreme confidence, bordering on arrogance certainly served them well as they squared up against the Awesome Blues of Chelsea for the N1 million prize and the bragging rights as SuperFans of all superfans.

The two teams went at each other constantly in a gorgeous attacking manner and Mozez Praiz very quickly found himself in the middle of an end-to-end contest with both sides repeatedly attempting and missing 20-pointers until Akinditure Williams of awesome Blues made it 1-0 shortly before halftime.

Golden United's response in the second half was swift and deadly as two successive 20-pointers put the ball emphatically into Awesome FC's net for the equalizer. From this point, Golden United were always in the driving seat and even with the full time score at 1-1, it always looked likely that they would claim the victory in line with their confident swagger - even to the point of celebating before Mozez Praiz finished announcing the result - and so it proved, as the audience voted for them twice in extra time to claim the victory and the N1 million prize. Awesome Blues on their part, put up a hard fight but ultimately, they had to make do with the N100, 000 consolation prize.

2-1 the final score and game over! Until next Thursday at 8pm on Africa Magic and Friday at 9pm on AIT for another episode of Star Football SuperFans.

Sports / Chelsea Fans Win Big In Drama-filled Episode Of Star Football Superfans by FootyJunkie: 9:05pm On Apr 25, 2015
The second episode of the Star Superfans gameshow which aired on Thursday April 16m stirred up controversy and drama as Victory FC made up of five Arsenal fans squared up against Famous FC made up of five Chelsea fans. Show host Mozez Praiz had to hold back his surprise as both teams consistently went for the jugular in a highly entertaining display of attacking football.

Unlike what was to follow, the game actually started off on a cautious note as Famous FC’s Adeyemi Jamiu went for a ten-pointer, which he answered correctly. Up next was Victory FC’s Fabian Otiono who also went for a ten-pointer, which he got right. Famous FC’s Francis James then became the first contestant to answer incorrectly and Victory FC saw a chance to make inroads into their opponents’ half.

At this point the game opened up as both Victory FC and Famous FC went for the kill with a series of back-and-forth twenty-pointers until Ojelabi Tosin of Victory FC missed his question, presenting Famous FC with a tap-in. Akinfolarin Ayodele gleefully stepped up and converted the chance with an emphatic twenty-pointer. One-nil was the score at halftime and the attacking pattern continued through second half with both teams constantly going for twenty-pointers which they kept getting wrong until the end of normal time with the score still 1-0 to Famous FC. Extra time kicked off with the audience heavily involved as judges and voters as both teams had to entertain the audience with their passion and convince them with a one minute debate session.

Francis James of Famous FC took centre stage with a ‘Shoki for Chelsea’, which got the audience rolling in laughter, and he left the stage after one minute to a chorus of applause. Victory FC’s Ojelabi Tosin came up next with a pro-Arsenal motivational speech that the audience clapped along to, rounded off with a stirring rendition of ‘Stand Up For The Champions’ by Right Said Fred. The debate came next and Lawal Omotolani of Victory FC squared up against Adeyemi Jamiu of Famous FC in a spirited one-minute debate, which got the audience to its feet.

And then came the moment of truth as the audience voted and Mozez Praiz announced the winner Famous FC by 2 goals to 1! The jubilant team celebrated wildly and embraced each other as they took home the sum of N1, 000,000 and most importantly, earned the coveted bragging rights as the Superfans of all superfans. Victory FC also went home with the consolation prize of N100, 000.

Sports / “my Uncle Played Football In Germany Until Injury Ended His Career” by FootyJunkie: 5:01pm On Apr 21, 2015
For most Nigerian football fans, the beautiful game is something limited to watching on television and playing for fun with friends. For Chidiebere Michael however, football is a very personal and meaningful thing having watched his uncle play professional football in Europe.

The Imo state indigene who was part of Team Nou Camp on the opening episode of the Star Football Superfans TV gameshow on Thursday April 9 2015, revealed that it is his fond wish to have a son who will someday play for FC Barcelona, the club that he has come to love.

In his words, “I am the first member of my family to support Barcelona and I hope to have a son who one day will play for Barcelona. I sometimes wish that I had played football. I played for my village team in Imo state and the amateur team Queen’s Football Club but I did not go professional. My uncle played professional football for Julius Berger and he also played in West Germany until a knee surgery ended his career.”
His teammates on Team Nou Camp, Soyinka Adesoye, Ali Umaru, Nelson Apaya, Ewaudu Michael and Jerry Ubaka matched his passion on the night and together they overcame One United 2-0 to emerge the inaugural winners of the weekly gameshow and win the N1 million prize.
