Romance / Scientists Reveal How To Know 'if Your Girlfriend Is Cheating Using Index Finger by fornaija(m): 9:05am On Dec 06, 2018
Women with long index fingers on their left hands are more likely to have affairs, a study has shown. The findings have surprised scientists as having a longer index finger is associated with having more typical female characteristics. The longer index finger and shorter ring finger have been linked to being exposed to higher levels of female s-x hormones in the womb. It was assumed that women who were ‘more feminised’ would be more likely to be satisfied with their romantic relationships, and to be less impulsive.
Being more exposed to the s-x hormone oestrogen in the womb leads to women’s index fingers growing longer than their ring finger. By contrast, being exposed to more of the male s-x hormone testosterone in the womb has a more ‘masculinising’ effect – and results in a longer ring finger and a shorter index finger.

Men with longer ring fingers than index fingers have been found to be better sportsmen. Eiluned Pearce of Oxford University carried out the research which has been published in a Royal Society Journal. She took measurements of the finger lengths of 274 female volunteers and also sampled their DNA. They also completed psychological tests on their relationship quality. She found that ‘women with higher (more feminine) left hand digit ratios are more impulsive and rate their romantic relationships less favourably.’ She added that the finding is ‘intriguing, because the opposite might be expected’. In the research paper, she speculates that women with the higher index finger to ring finger ration are likely to be ‘more feminized‘ and more highly sought after by males. Because they know they have a lot of options, ‘this might be associated with dissatisfaction with current partners’ and this might lead to flings – or as the scientists call it ‘opportunistic mating’ and ‘impulsive’ mating with men who are not their husband or partner.

The two main strategies in s-x are ‘opportunistic mating‘ – in other words having lots of flings – and a strategy ‘focusing on long-term commitment’. She writes that ‘If females with more feminised morphology [body shape] have higher ‘mate value‘, this might be associated with dissatisfaction with current partners, leading to impulsive extra-pair matings and seeking alternative mates.’ The researchers also looked at the ratio of index finger to ring finger lengths in males, but did not find any connection with relationship quality.Last month research found that women whose ring fingers are longer than their index digits more likely to be lesbian. Researchers at Essex University looked at sets of identical twins where one of the siblings was heterosexual. They found that the homosexual twin tended to have a greater difference between the length of their index and ring finger, with the difference most pronounced among women.

Previous research has indicated that exposure to the male hormone testosterone in the womb could be linked to differences in finger length and also to sexuality. Women’s index and ring fingers are typically of similar length while in men there is a greater difference. Both men and women are exposed to the ‘male‘ hormone testosterone in the womb. The study observed that in 18 sets of female twins, the lesbian twin had more ‘male-typical’ hands than her straight sister. In 14 sets of male twins the gay twin had slightly more ‘male-typical’ hands than their straight brother but the difference between the two was not viewed as significant. A chart indicated that the index finger of non-straight women was typically around 90 to 100 per cent as long as the ring finger.

Romance / Gist: Donald Trump's Daughter Reportedly Dating Lagos Millionaire by fornaija(m): 9:44am On Dec 03, 2018
Tiffany Trump, the daughter of US president, Donald Trump, is allegedly dating a Lagos-bred millionaire, Micheal Boulos.
According to Page Six reports, Micheal is the son of a multi-billion dollar family in Nigeria.

A source close to Tiffany told Page Six that the president’s daughter and Boulos spent Thanksgiving together and that he met most of her family.

“Tiffany is happy. She has so far been able to keep things with Michael under the radar.

“But she introduced him to her family at Thanksgiving, and he comes across as a very intelligent young man from a great family. There was no mention of the president’s unfortunate comment about African nations,” the source said.

Tiffany and Boulos are believed to have started dating sometime in June, when they met while on vacation in Mykonos.

Boulos reportedly grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. Tiffany’s father President Trump had once referred to Nigeria as a “shithole country.”

Politics / Facts Or Lies? Presidency Insists Boko Haram Has Been 'technically Defeated' by fornaija(m): 11:06am On Nov 27, 2018
The Presidency has insisted that Boko Haram insurgents have been ”technically defeated” especially in the northeast region, according to a report by Channels Television.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina said this on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, in reaction to the killing of several soldiers in the Metele area of Borno State.

Although he described the situation as sad and unfortunate, he believes it is not enough to conclude that the insurgents now have control over the region.

Also in reaction to the conflicting number of casualties recorded in the recent attacks, Adesina said the Presidency is yet to know the actual figures.

According to him, it is the place of the military to give an authoritative figure of the casualties.

He said, “The Presidency did not mention any figure. Its not for the presidency to mention a figure, its for the military because it is purely military thing.

“It is the military who can give you an authoritative figure in terms of casualties, not the presidency.”

When asked if the President had been briefed on the number of casualties, he said, “I am not in the knowledge of that. Unless the President tells me, I don’t know, we have not discussed it.

“He is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, so he should be briefed by the hour, if not by the minute.

“For some time, you know that things had eased, the Nigerian Army had the upper hand and the insurgents had been technically defeated but then, there is this sudden upsurge and there is that casualty figure which I do not know, but which people say is on the high side.

“The military is the one that can tell us what actually happened”.

“That was maybe a breach in security but it doesn’t not mean that Boko Haram is having the upper hand and like the President said in the statement we released yesterday( Saturday), we will still get to the end of this Boko Haram insurgency.

“I agree with you that this is a breach, it is sad, it is unfortunate but then, it does not mean that Boko Haram is now in charge, they are not,” Adesina stressed.

Speaking further, the President’s aide also addressed some of the claims made by former President Goodluck Jonathan over an alleged increase in corruption under the present administration, despite its promise to curb the menace.

He said, “Don’t you think the reason adduced for that is rather simplistic.

“It says, under the Jonathan administration, this is the amount that was recovered, now under Buhari, this is the amount that has been recovered which is like four, five, six fold of what was recovered under Jonathan… is that then enough reason to say corruption has increased, or rather there is more efficiency in tackling corruption now.

“It could mean that corruption was just accepted as a way of life, that was why the recovery was so minimal and now the recovery is so huge now because corruption is being tackled.”

Religion / See As Man Buries Carved Wood Instead Of His Brother's Corpse In Anambra (photos by fornaija(m): 5:33pm On Nov 26, 2018
It was pure drama that took place last Friday during a burial ceremony in Nnewi, Anambra State, after it was discovered that a carved wood was to be buried instead of a man’s corpse.

Local reports show that the deceased identified as Sunday Nwosu, died on the 10th of January, 2016, and his younger brother, Ikechukwu, had been telling people that Sunday’s corpse was in the mortuary and he didn’t have money to bury him, yet.

But, on Friday, 23rd of November, 2018, Ikechuchkwu invited few friends to a funeral service without the approval of his kinsmen. He brought a coffin containing the supposed corpse of Sunday and instructed that it shouldn’t be opened.

However, their younger sister stormed the venue without notifying anyone and forcefully opened the casket. And to the surprise of everyone, only a carved wood was found inside. .

But despite her cries, Ikechukwu still went ahead to bury the wood. Now, some villagers have called on the Igwe of Orizu, Nnewi, and the police to arrest Ikechukwu and make him provide his brother’s corpse.

Business / Report! CBN Under Pressure To Order Banks To Stop ATM Charges by fornaija(m): 5:16pm On Nov 26, 2018
Some customers of commercial banks in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to stop charges on transactions made through Automated Teller Machines, ATMs.

The customers, who made the call in separate interviews with News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Gwagwalada on Monday, described the maintenance and transaction fees as well as other charges levied by the banks on ATM transactions as “worrisome and fraudulent”.

They noted that customers’ withdrawals with the ATMs of other banks had been unattractive because of the continued charge of N65 for every transaction, while commercial banks in the FCT had re-programmed their ATM machines.

They said that the ATMs of most banks in the FCT dispensed only N10,000 per transaction, adding that customers were, therefore, forced to make many withdrawals to enable the banks to earn more through charges.

The customers moaned that if they had a cause to withdraw N100,000 or more through other banks’ ATMs, it meant they would be made to part with more cash under the guise of ATM charges.

Mr Godwin Onmonya, a Zenith Bank customer in Gwagwalada, said that the ATMs of virtually all the banks in the neighbourhood dispensed a maximum of N10,000 per transaction.

“If you want to make withdrawals, you will discover that only few ATMs are dispensing and they only dispense N10,000 per transaction.

“Recently, I wanted to withdraw above N100,000 and I went to another bank, only to discover that its ATM was dispensing only N10,000 per transaction.

“I also discovered I was charged N65 for every transaction, as I had exceeded the mandatory three withdrawals limit; this is outrageous,” he said.

Mr Abraham Gado, another bank customer in Kwali Area Council, said that he often received alerts for charges like management, maintenance and commitment fees as well as other frivolous charges after ATM transactions.

“These banks are making huge money to the detriment of poor Nigerians; imagine the collection of N100 charged as maintenance fees from just five million citizens.

“Our ATM cards are always with us and not in the banks; so, I don’t actually know what they are maintaining.

“Even as regards the N65 charge which CBN authorised should be charged after three transactions, I am not sure the banks are following the rule, judging by the number of debit alerts we usually receive.

“The concerned authorities should please look into this matter because people are suffering; there is no money in the country, yet the banks are ripping off their customers,’’ Gado said.

Mrs Sarah Bako, another customer in Abaji Area Council, recalled an instance when withdrew N100,000 from her account with a First Bank ATM, saying that she was charged N65 per transaction.

Saying that was not her first experience, Bako described the practice as “fraudulent and an act of robbing the people’’.

She urged the CBN to urgently intervene in the matter, with a view to curbing excessive charges on ATM withdrawals by commercial banks.

Bako, however, called for the establishment of more banks in Abaji Area Council in order to boost commercial activities in the area, saying that First Bank Plc. was the only commercial bank operating in the neighbourhood.

“People travel from neighbouring villages like Rubochi, Nuku, Chikara, Dangara, Bukpe, Atako and other faraway places to Abaji central area just for bank transactions.

“We have First Bank as the only commercial bank in the whole of Abaji Area Council and that is not too good for business activities in the area.

“First Bank is the only bank operating in Abaji; for a long time, we have clamouring for the presence of other banks in our area to reduce the stress but so far, nothing has been done,” she said.

NAN recalls that the Senate recently called on the CBN to suspend the ATM card maintenance charges being deducted from customers’ accounts, following a motion moved by Sen. Gbenga Ashafa (APC-Lagos East).

Crime / "Virgin. Beautiful. 12 Years; Her Price Has Reached $12,500" ISIL Advertises Sex by fornaija(m): 11:26am On Jul 08, 2016
The advertisement on the Telegram app as
chilling. A a girl for sale is “Virgin. Beautiful.
12 years old … Her price has reached $12,500 and she will be sold
soon.”

The posting in Arabic appeared on an encrypted conversation
along with ads for kittens, weapons and tactical gear. It was shared by
an activist with the minority Yazidi community, whose women and
children are being held as sex slaves by ISIL.

While the extremist
group is losing territory in its self-styled caliphate, it is
tightening its grip on an estimated 3,000 women and girls held as sex
slaves.

In a fusion of ancient barbaric practices and modern technology,
ISIL sells the women like chattel on smartphone apps and shares
databases that contain their photographs and the names of their “owners”
to prevent their escape through ISIL checkpoints.

Yazidi women
and children were taken prisoner in August 2014, when ISIL fighters
overran their villages in northern Iraq with the aim to eliminate the
Kurdish-speaking minority because of its ancient faith. Since then, Arab
and Kurdish smugglers have managed to free an average of 134 people a
month. But by May, an ISIL crackdown reduced those numbers to just 39 in
the past six weeks, according to figures provided by the Kurdistan
regional government.

Mirza Danai, founder of the German-Iraqi aid
organisation Luftbrucke Irak, said escape had become more difficult and
dangerous in the last two or three months.

“They register every
slave, every person under their owner, and therefore if she escapes,
every Daesh control or checkpoint, or security force – they know that
this girl … has escaped from this owner,” he said.

Lamiya Aji
Bashar tried to flee four times before finally escaping in March, racing
to government-controlled territory with ISIL fighters in pursuit. A
landmine exploded, killing her companions, 8-year-old Almas and
Katherine, 20. She never learned their last names. The explosion
left Lamiya blind in her right eye and her face scarred. Saved by the
man who smuggled her out, she spoke from her uncle’s home in the
northern Iraqi town of Baadre. She counts herself among the lucky.

“I
managed in the end, thanks to God, I managed to get away from those
infidels,” she said. “Even if I had lost both eyes, it would have been
worth it, because I have survived them.”

The Sunni extremist group
views the Yazidis as barely human. The Yazidi faith combines elements
of Islam, Christianity and Zoroastrianism, an ancient Persian religion.
Their pre-war population in Iraq was estimated around 500,000. Their
number today is unknown.

Nadia Mourad, an escapee, has appeared before the US congress and the European parliament to appeal for international help.

“Daesh

is proud of what it’s done to the Yazidis,” she told the parliament.
“They are being used has human shields. They are not allowed to escape
or flee. Probably they will be assassinated. Where is the world in all
this? Where is humanity?”

ISIL
relies on encrypted apps to sell the women and girls, according to an
activist who is documenting the transactions and asked not to be named
for fear of his safety. The activist showed the negotiations for the
captives in encrypted conversations as they were occurring in real time.
The postings appear primarily on Telegram and on Facebook and WhatsApp
to a lesser degree, he said.

Both
Facebook-owned WhatsApp and Telegram use end-to-end encryption to
protect users’ privacy. Both have said they consider protecting private
conversations and data paramount, and that they themselves cannot access
users’ content

Lamiya
was abducted from the village of Kocho, near the town of Sinjar, in the
summer of 2014. Her parents are presumed dead. Somewhere, she said, her
9-year-old sister Mayada remains captive. One photo she managed to send
to the family shows the little girl standing in front of an ISIL flag.
Lamiya recounted her captivity, describing how she was passed
from one ISIL follower to another, all of whom beat and violated her.
She was determined to escape.

She said her first “owner” was an
Iraqi ISIL commander who went by the name Abu Mansour in the city of
Raqqa, the de facto ISIL capital deep in Syria. He brutalised her, often
keeping her handcuffed. She tried to run away twice but was
caught, beaten and raped repeatedly. After a month, she said, she was
sold to another ISIL extremist in Mosul, Iraq’s second city in the
northern province of Nineveh. After two months with him, she was sold
again, this time to an ISIL bomb-maker who Lamiya said forced her to
help him make suicide vests and car bombs.

“I tried to escape from him. And he captured me, too, and he beat me.”

When
the bomb-maker grew bored with her, she was handed over to an ISIL
doctor in Hawija, a small ISIL-controlled Iraqi town. She said the
doctor, who was the ISIL head of the town hospital, also abused her.

From there, after more than a year, she managed to contact her relatives in secret.

Her
uncle said the family paid local smugglers $800 to arrange Lamiya’s
escape. She will be reunited with her siblings in Germany, but despite
everything, her heart remains in Iraq.

“We had a nice house with a big farm … I was going to school,” she said. “It was beautiful.”
