Crime / How Mtn Robbed Me Of My Hard Earned N8000 by fpnews: 11:51am On Mar 27, 2016
HOW MTN ROBBED ME OF MY HARD EARNED N8000
My name is Kenneth. My MTN modem number is 08035693266. I am sad not because of the money but because I never thought I could ever get robbed by MTN and even if I will be robbed, not in the manner this happened, because mehn it was just too wicked. On the 3rd of February 2016 I subscribed for 7.5 G MTN internet data plan and 8000 naira was deducted from my account. 8000 naira is no small money mehn.

I browsed for just one day and the next day I received a message that I have no active data plan. I called 180 for more than 5 times and I was linked to customer care reps in charge of data each time I called and they all confirmed that I actually subscribed for 8000 naira data plan but that something was wronged with there network and promised that in some days time I will start browsing again but it is almost 2 months now and this issue is not resolved. Is MTN now into 419 , robbing subscribers of their hard earned money ? Will my 8000 naira data plan just go like that?
Politics / Human Rights Group Frowns At Disrespect Of Court Orders By President Buhari by fpnews: 10:38am On Jan 02, 2016
A human rights group Youths for Human Rights Protection and Transparency Initiative (YARPTI) has frowned at the disrespect of court orders by the Buhari led government of Nigeria . The group condemned the situation were several courts have granted Mr. Dasuki and Mr Nnamdi Kanu bail and after fulfilling the conditions for their bail the DSS refused to allow them go .

In a statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Kenneth Uwadi and National Media Affairs Director , Veronica Ekpo , the group viewed the two development as “exhibition of dictatorial tendencies and an attempt to return Nigeria to the dark days of military jackboot’’.

According to the statement, ‘’no one is backing or shielding those that committed crimes against the nation, but it should be made clear that Dasuki, Kanu, or any other accused person remain innocent until proven otherwise by a court of law. The way Buhari is going by presuming the accused people to be guilty is unconstitutional’’

Col Sambo Dasuki met his bail conditions and was walking out of Kuje Prison but was immediately rearrested by the DSS and whisked away. Three separate courts have so far granted Mr. Dasuki bail. But even after fulfilling the conditions for his bail DSS has refused to allow him go home. The same thing happened to former NIMASA boss as well as Nnamdi Kanu where court orders were disobeyed.

In the case of Nnamdi Kanu, the DSS flouted and gravely disobeyed four express and consequential orders of the Wuse Zone 2 Magistrate Court and the Federal High Court, Abuja Division bordering on his constitutional rights to personal liberty, association, assembly, dignity of human person, life and expression. Sadly, the President has confirmed his dictatorial tendencies by saying in a national media chat that people like Sambo Dasuki and Nnamdi Kanu do not deserve bail because of the weight of atrocities they have committed. Buhari is undermining the courts and overthrowing the constitution of Nigeria.

YARPTI said ‘ the government had the opportunity to present their evidences and argument against bail for the two and they did. The court considered all the evidences and all the arguments and decided to grant bail. Why will the President say they do not deserve bail? The President took an oath to uphold the constitution which is supreme to all other laws or personal opinion. We are in a democracy and democracy is all about the rule of Law. Disobedience to court orders by those who should protect and ensure its compliance slides the Nation to anarchy .You don’t act illegally, and as an oppressor of the people and expect the people not to resist such illegality. Whatever the sins of Dasuki and Kanu , let the court alone determine”

Politics / Free The 2 Jailed Nigerian Bloggers Now by fpnews: 1:02pm On Sep 04, 2015
FREE THE 2 JAILED NIGERIAN BLOGGERS NOW

The Youths for Human Rights Protection and Transparency Initiative (YARPTI) totally condemns the arrest and detention of two Nigerian Bloggers: Seun Oloketuyi and Chris Nwandu and demands their immediate and unconditional release. Chris Nwandu is the owner of the popular online news medium, CKN while Oloketuyi owns Naijahottestgist.

Oloketuyi was on August 25, 2015 arraigned on two counts for allegedly publishing defamatory story on his blog, naijahottestgist against the Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo. He was accused of publishing on his blog that Okonkwo had an extramarital affair with one Justina, a married woman working in the Marketing Department of Fidelity Bank. Nwandu, was arraigned by the police for allegedly posting on his facebook page the story published by Oloketuyi.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Lagos denied them bail and ordered them to be remanded in prison custody .YARPTI is aware that Chris Nwandu has recently been criticizing the government of President Muhammadu Buhari over his recent political appointments and some government policies via FACEBOOK and has been warned to desist from that or face the music and we see the arrest and detention of these bloggers as President Buhari’s move to clampdown on freedom of speech in Nigeria. We are aware of the president’s record of deep-seated zero tolerance to any opposition to his actions or inactions. We believe that the government is hiding behind the Nnamdi Okonkwo’s issue to get back at Nwandu and co.

YARPTI is against anyone publishing falsehood against anybody . Doing that amounts to libel/ defamation. We are aware that in Nigeria any person who publishes any defamatory matter is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for one year, and any person who publishes any defamatory matter knowing it to be false is liable to imprisonment for two, three to ten years imprisonment or a fine ranging from three to twenty five million Naira. But it must be proved that he knew it to be false and that it was published with something called actual malice. Actual malice means that the story was published with the knowledge that it was false or that the story was published with reckless disregard of whether or not it was false. Defamation in Nigeria is also bail able .

If we silence an opinion, for all we know we are silencing the truth, a wrong opinion may contain a grain of truth which will lead to finding the whole truth. YARPTI is calling on Nigerians to resist the government of Nigeria turning the judiciary and the DSS to instrument of repression and intimidation of any opposition views. Freedom is the right or ability to think, act, speak or write without interference. Press freedom is the ability of the mass media to operate without the interference of the government. No one should drag Nigeria back to the era of military jackboot absolutism with its associated abuse of the fundamental rights of people to freedom of expression, among others.

If the government of Nigeria starts using the court to shut people up in a democracy where is the hope for the common man. The detention of the 2 bloggers in Nigeria is a bad omen of what awaits those who criticize the present government in Nigeria and we say NO to any form of civilian dictatorship .

For over a decade, the Nigerian working people and youths had struggled against military dictatorship and for return to civil rule. Thousands of working class people and labour, youth and pro-democracy activists were subject to arbitrary arrests, detention without trial, torture and killing for fighting for an end to military rule.

Millions of Nigerians had supported the struggle against the military in the expectation that an end to military rule will bring about an end to mass poverty, declining living standards, huge unemployment, massive corruption and wanton violations of democratic rights which characterised military dictatorship. It was hoped that civil rule would result in improved living conditions, availability of jobs, a reduction in crimes and corruption and respect for democratic rights.

But so many years in this civil rule, these expectations and hope of the masses have remained largely unfulfilled. Economically, politically and socially, the country has either remained stagnant or the situation has become worse. The manufacturing sector remains in a state of comatose. Problems of fuel shortage and electric power cuts are in the open.
The living standards of the working masses have also been further wrecked by the policies of privatisation of public assets, commercialisation of social services, retrenchment of workers, non payment of salaries, non payment of pension and other anti-poor neo-liberal capitalist economic policies. Buhari should go to work . Free Seun Oloketuyi and Chris Nwandu now !!! Please share this message. Dare to struggle!! Dare to win!!

Politics / Yarpti Supports President Buhari’s Plans To Grant Local Government Autonomy by fpnews: 3:58pm On May 31, 2015
A civil society group in Nigeria, Youths for Human Rights Protection and Transparency Initiative (YARPTI) has welcomed the plans of President Muhammadu Buhari for local government to be given autonomy in Nigeria. The Director of YARPTI Comrade Kenneth Uwadi said “ It is in the news that the President has resolved to present to the Eighth National Assembly an Executive Bill that will guarantee the autonomy of local governments. And barring any unforeseen circumstance, the bill will be sent within the first six months of the current administration. We strongly welcome this report and the overarching call for local government to be given autonomy."

In Nigeria, paternalism seems to be the norms as local government have not enjoyed the unfretted freedom expected of them giving the level of interference by higher level of governments. This is against the resolution of the 1979 Hague conference on local authorities which resolved that local communities should preserve their independent personality and existence to the extent that they wish to do so, says YARPTI.

The group accused State Governors of looting council funds, saying that Nigerian people are against the state governors, who are hell bent on maintaining the status quo and continue with their ‘business as usual’ antics with the allocation accruing to the third tier of government.

“A huge con game is taking place in so many Nigerian states where Governors have refused to conduct council election and have been using care taker officials to loot council funds. For four years now I have been highlighting the manner of looting of council funds in Imo State. Governor Rochas Okorocha has been manipulating the minds of Imo people through his unconstitutional fourth tier government sweet talks while rescuing his own pocket with Imo council funds. I highlighted what I see as naked impunity in Imo State. Rather than listen to voice of reasoning, hands off council funds and conduct council election in the state , the Governor and his megaphones called me all sorts of names saying that my allegations are nothing but the handiwork of power thirsty opposition.’’ Uwadi said

‘Today, the Councils in Imo State are dysfunctional. Nothing is happening in over 90 per cent of Imo State Councils. LGA funds in the state are held hostage and the people are deprived the opportunity to function democratically. Nigeria’s Constitution recognizes LGA’s as the third tier of government after the federal and state governments. Their functions are clearly defined. They are entitled allocation of funds from the federation account for use in carrying out their functions. Each of Imo State LGA receives millions of naira in allocations monthly . Where are the monies? Nobody knows where these monies end up. Where are the local roads, health care centres, modern schools and markets? Where are the projects to speed up development? Where are the millions of naira for Imo LGA’s? Okorocha and his Caretaker Committee Chairmen are looting these monies. They are using local government revenue and allocations to enrich themselves’’ Uwadi continued .

The group frown at the situation were councils are treated as though they were a ministry of the state government: local government allocations are pooled into a joint state/local government account controlled by the state; elections into local government councils are non-periodic, if carried out at all; and local government chairmen could be sacked at any time by the state governors. This has caused the local governments to be very ineffective in discharging their duties.

‘The idea of the local governments being the closest to the grassroots is not just in name, but also to assume responsibility for important issues such as provision of primary, adult and vocational education; provision of primary health care services; and many aspects of revenue collection in addition to duties such as maintenance of cemeteries, numbering of houses and naming of streets, and registration of births and deaths. What ends up trickling down to LGA’s from state government is not even enough for paying staff salaries’said Uwadi.

“It is about time we looked at our local governments seriously and make them live up to their responsibilities. With a working local government system, a lot of work would be taken off the back of the federal and state governments. We need to critically look into the structure and administration of local governments and grant them autonomy’’ Uwadi concluded

Politics / Governor Okorocha’s Yanyanpu On Radio by fpnews: 2:24pm On Jan 07, 2015
GOVERNOR OKOROCHA’S YANYANPU ON RADIO

I must applaud myself for successfully avoiding the Rochas Okorocha’s radio interview of 5/1/15. There are several wonderful TV programmes begging for my attention, so I considered it a waste of my time to listen to Okorocha’s talk on radio which judging from his past will be nothing more than unappetizing combo of cassava-market nonsense, careless hawking of plenty lies and further attempt at self-celebration. Whenever Okorocha is on air, he usually presents himself as one of the world’s most righteous human beings and competent leaders when we all know that Imo’s condition today under his watch is too dangerous for silence. We all know that Okorocha and his clique of thieves have turned Imo State into a bankrupt and lawless fiefdom .

I heard he said in the interview that he is not corrupt and that his first daughter, Uloma Nwosu sales cook and bread in Government House Owerri. Do you believe this? How can a Governor make such an uninspiring statement? In one of my articles I talked about Ali Baba the character from the medieval Arabic literature Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. In the literature story Ali Baba encountered 40 thieves and later became their leader. In that my article I told you with reasons why the Governor of Imo State Chief Rochas Okorocha is another Ali Baba.
I told you about the looting of the 13 percent oil derivation funds of ISOPADEC and the looting of the 27 LGA funds in Imo State. I also tried to open every eyes to see and recognized the true identity of the dishonorable men and women purporting to represent our collective interest in the Imo State House of Assembly. I called the Imo State House of Assembly the zombie parliament.

In a propaganda to paint "all is well" picture of Imo State, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State is always on radio, Africa Independent Television (AIT ) and Channel TV to buoy his ego and selfish interests. The irony of this madness is that our governor who should cover his face in shame for looting the resources of Imo State is the one dominating television and radio stations and the pages of Newspapers talking about fake transformation in Imo State when nothing tangible is on ground in the 27 Local government of the State.

The first wicked actions of the Okorocha’s government was the sack of 10,000 Imo civil servants. Four years after Okorocha wickedly sacked 10,000 Imo youths in order not to pay wages, he has shamelessly launched a scam called IMO YOUTHS MUST WORK programme, a programme where he boast to employ 25,000 Imo youths under a slave-driving casualization of workers scheme. With the IMO YOUTHS MUST WORK programme ,he is to place Imo youths as casual workers and give them a poverty wage and not allow them to join trade union. They are to be paid a ridiculous amount of N20,000 out of which N2,000 will be deducted as tax.

Since Okorocha said he is not corrupt he should at least tell us about Joseph Dino of Jpros Limited and the stolen Imo tax payers N1.3 billion naira. He should tell us about Marinlopez-pepe and Imo tax payers N3.5 billion. He should tell us why he sold public corporations and utilities such as ITC, Adapalm, Concord Hotel and Imo Municipal Company to himself in the name of privatization as well as the doling out of public resources to his cronies. He should tell us what he did for our LGA’s with all the huge funds allocated monthly to the 27 local Government areas of Imo State since May 2011 till date that is well above N132 billion naira.

There is no development in any of the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State since Okorocha came in to power. No Hospitals, Schools, Markets, bore holes for water or any rural electrifications etc in any autonomous community in Imo State in four years of the life of this administration. The only roads in the rural areas of Imo are those built by unsuspecting contractors/individuals with their hard earned money that is now begging for regularization and payment. Where are IROMA trucks and equipment valued at N12.5 Billion? Where is the supposed 3.5 billion naira proceeds from the sale/lease of Adalpam? What has happened to over N16 billion 13% (derivation) allocated to Imo State oil producing areas development commission (ISOPADEC)since May 2011?

In the past, LGA funds in Imo State was used to develop certain vital social services in the grass root like education, health care and key investments on infrastructures like water, electricity, roads, industries, etc, all which severally and collectively positively impacted on the living standard of the ordinary working masses in the grassroot areas .In sharp contrast, the current Okorocha's so-called government, acting under the dictates and or in concert with imperialism has completely jettisoned the idea of government using local government funds and resources to better the lots of the local councils Instead, it has adopted a whole scale capitalist, neo-liberal strategy of looting of council funds.

In effect, a permanent bazaar society has crystallized with the thieving cabals in the Imo corridors of power looting the resources and wealth of Imo councils leaving the overwhelming majority in the LGA's to provide houses, water, electricity, education, health care, etc, on their own, of course, strictly in accordance to the size of their pockets which is the only vocabulary understood and acceptable in the market jungle. Today, over 70% of Imolites at the grassroot areas are living below poverty line.

This large scale misappropriation of Imo state local government statutory allocation by the governor and his cohorts has functionally collapsed the cherished constitutional third tier structure. For not giving us democratically elected councilors and chairmen in our LGA’s for 4 years now, we are saying go home and rest Rochas Okorocha, go home, Imo will not vote for you again. Politics / Sos : Cultists Take Over Egbema In Imo by fpnews: 2:37pm On Dec 28, 2013
By Kenneth Uwadi

The serene atmosphere in the 13 communities in Egbema of the Ohaji/Egbema LGA in Imo State has been shattered in the past few days with an upsurge in cult related killings that have turned the once lovely communities into a theatre of war. According to our exclusive investigation the cultists spreading across different types now kills, maim and destroy at will. Within the past week, 15 young men have been cut down in their prime including a young man known as Mento from Umuorji-Egbema.

It was revealed that as at today 28/12/13 alone 8 young men have been killed in various communities in Egbema. Deaths have been reported in Abacheke, Obiakpu, Mgbara, Etekwuru and Umuorji. Even family men now resolve to sponsor some of these young men on this destructive killings that is spreading like wild fire.No day passes without a corpse been seen in Egbema and its environ. The Egbema Police command seems helpless and it is high time the Imo State police command including the Imo State governor step in to stop this societal malady. With these killings getting increasingly terrible by the day, only God knows where we are going!
