President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to pick up Madagascar’s herbal drug –COVID Organics – from Equatorial Guinea.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, made this known on Monday.

Mustapha said Nigeria’s consignment had been sent to Equatorial Guinea from where it will be airlifted to Abuja.
For ease of transportation, African countries were divided into zones leading to the freighting of Nigeria’s consignments to Equatorial Guinea.

He also said the products would be subjected to validation process after they had been picked up.

Mustapha had on April 28, 2020 said the nation was ready to give Madagascar’s herbal remedy a trial.

He said, “I want to assure you that whatever is happening in the world, we are mindful of it and we are keeping a tab.

“I was reading of the experiences in Madagascar– of why everybody is drinking some solutions that have been prepared.

“This morning I was sharing with my wife and I told her that probably I would request that Mr President allows us import a plane load for a trial.”

The management of Union Bank on Monday confirmed the death of one of its staff at a branch in Lagos.

Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Emeka Emuwa, made this known in an internal memo seen by SaharaReporters.

He said, “Dear colleagues, notwithstanding the easing of the lockdown, the threat of COVID-19 remains high and real.

“Today, we received a painful reminder of this threat. We are deeply saddened to announce that one of our colleagues passed away in the early hours of today (Monday, May 4th) while being treated at the Infectious Disease Center in Yaba, Lagos.”

Emuwa however, noted that the deceased had been working remotely since the bank activated that option in March and has not worked or being in any of the bank’s branches since then.

Three Nigerians have been confirmed dead as a result of Coronavirus in the United States.

Nigeria’s Consul General in New York, Mr Benaoyagha Okoyen, confirmed the deaths in a statement on Saturday night, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Okoyen said one of the victims was a doctor from Abia while another was a 25-year-old final year Chemical Engineering student of Western Michigan University named Bassey Offiong.

He said, “It is regrettable to announce that three Nigerians have died of COVID-19 in the United States of America.

“The first case was a 60-year-old lady, Hajia Laila Abubakar Ali of Kano descent, who died on March 25, while receiving treatment at the Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York.

“Secondly, 25-year-old Bassey Offiong from Calabar, a final year Chemical Engineering student of Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, died on Saturday, March 28, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

“Unfortunately, the last case was a medical practitioner, Dr Caleb Anya, from Ohafia in Abia State.

“He died while rendering service to humanity on the forefront of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic in New York on April 1.

“On behalf of the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York, I wish to extend our condolences to the families of the deceased Nigerians in this tragic circumstance.

“We are particularly very proud of Nigerian medical professionals in the USA who form part of the incredible workforce in the service of humanity at this time

Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, has contracted Coronavirus.

Babandede, who returned from the United Kingdom to Nigeria on March 22, made the confirmation on Sunday.
