Politics / FLASHBACK: How Fela Kuti Lamented Over Biafra by freethenippu: 9:17pm On Jul 18, 2021
What Fela said
“The Biafran war had started in ’66 and was now fully underway. I was in Lagos, playing music. I didn’t like the Biafran war though. I thought the Nigerian government was wrong. I thought the Biafrans were right. The Yoruba are not Ibo. I thought the Ibos were right.

“I said to myself, “This whole thing is a cheap, big hustle to put the Ibos in a bad light in the world.” And, in fact, what was happening was the beginning of corruption in Nigeria. That’s evident now.

“The Biafrans were f***ing right to secede, man. If it was secession, it was good secession. Because secession is what could have brought Africa together at that time. From secession, we could come together again. But by not seceding, we’re put together by force. Uhuhhhhhh! That’s what’s happening in Nigeria today. The Ibos don’t understand why they’re in Nigeria.

“The Yorubas don’t know what’s happening. And the Hausas, they want to dominate everybody. The whole thing is f***ing confusion. I don’t even know myself why we’re in Nigeria; how we all got to be together in this country, in the first place. No politician has ever gone into that. If Ojukwu had seceded, we would have started our own history. We would have known why we seceded and what happened.

“How did we get together in the first place? Uh? That’s the real question. Why don’t any of the politicians ever ask that question? Eh? Anyway, at that time, when the war was going on, I wasn’t politically minded at all.

“I made my comments as a citizen. I was just another musician, playing with Koola Lobitos and singing love songs, songs about rain, about people… What did I know? That’s when I split to America.”

9jakool:

Ibadan is an old city, but not one of the ancient Yoruba cities. Ibadan only gets that label because it was the largest precolonial Nigerian city, so most of the buildings in Old Ibadan are more than 100 years old. Most modern day Igbo cities can be categorized as small villages 150 years ago, so they appear more modern.
While I agree that some Yorubas erroneous label Ibadan as ancient, there are far older cities in Yorubaland and there is always archeological evidence dug from the ground to back it up. Ijebu ode and Lagos are far older than Ibadan and there is archeological evidence that are 500-1200 years old to back it up.

If Awka is as old as you claim (8th century), you will provide visual evidence from 8th century from Awka specifically to back that up.

The two cultures you mentioned are not even yoruba in the first place

why is it that you yorubas hate ijebus so much, but latch on to them when they want to boast about their 'rich' history. Them don reject una identity ever since.

Besides 300 years old is a more precise dating to their stuff

Same with the lagos which was founded by the edos

https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2017/05/04/lagos-not-part-yorubaland-oba-akiolu/

https://www.edoworld.net/How_Ancient_Igbos_CoFounded_The_Obaship_Of_Lagos.html

Please bring up YORUBA history oh!!

Besides, just recently someone in anambra just found some igbo artifacts. Most of our artifacts are discovered accidentally unlike the yoruba exvacations, meaning there is still much more to uncover.

https://www.nairaland.com/5094238/take-look-object-dug-out

Any ways sha, i'm not a history student, so don't come arguing with me. If you are interested in igbo civilization, you can go search it up. Let's not destroy the main purpose of the thread
in addition, Reason why our cities appear modern is because of our brain. China which harbours one of the oldest civilizations has super modern cities.
If you like be there bragging about the dirty old rusted roof building your great grandfather passed down unto u

There is a difference in the yoruba definition of ancient (colonization era) and the igbo definition of ancient (BC period).

The practice of Christianity is strength.
It takes great strength to forgive.
It takes great strength to love your enemies.
It takes great strength to pray for those who curse you.
Evil cannot rule over good. If you are good, you will surely rule over evil.
If you are light, you will rule over darkness.
All you need is to be light and be good. The evil ones will bow before you.

It's always 'love your enemies and praying for those who curse you' until it happens to one of you close ones or people of your ethnicity.

They steal your right arm, you forgive
They steal your left arm, you forgive
Then they steal your life, and there will be nothing you can do about it.

The enemy will take advantage of you if you keep on forgiving, being nice and acting all 'lovey-dovey'. It's just simple common sense.

Christianity is a religion of weakness.
