Business / Which Bank Accept NIN Slip by freetimes: 4:27pm On Oct 27, 2016
Please, which of the banks accept the temporary issued NIN Slip as a means of identification? I went to First bank this morning to open a savings account and they asked me to provide a valid means of identification. I gave them the NIN slip but they said they don't accept it that i should bring the permanent plastic one.. only God knows when that will be ready. Right now I don't have any means of identification except the temporary I'd given to me by the National Identity Management Commission. Please which of the banks accept the temporary nin slip?

Politics / Floods Hit Manchester And Leeds City Centres As MONTH Of Rain Falls In Hours by freetimes: 2:25pm On Dec 26, 2015
Devastating floods in the north of England saw the city centres of Leeds and Manchester partially submerged after more than a month of rain fell in just a few hours.

The Met Office has issued 'danger to life' flood warnings as the army is called in to evacuate residents in Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Villages such as Whalley and Ribchester were left waist deep in water after a Boxing Day morning deluge which saw five inches of rain come down.

Ilkley in West Yorkshire has also been left
completely cut off while other Yorkshire towns such as Hebden Bridge,

Todmorden and Skip tonare also affected.

But in dramatic scenes the city centres of
Manchester and Leeds were also left partially underwater.

Eyewitness Darren Collingwood, 42, told the Manchester Evening News :

"It’s just chaos. The water was everywhere. We were just walking
over the footbridge when we saw it. It was
unbelievable."

A spokeswoman for Lowry Hotel said there were no plans to evacuate. “There is is still quite a bit to go before it gets into the hotel.

"We’ve had this before about six or seven years ago where the rear of the hotel was flooded like that In Leeds, Twitter users posted pictures of the Clarence Dock area of the city centre left submerged by flood water after the River Aire burst its banks.

People were urged to stay away from the area by firefighters tackling flooding across Greate Manchester.

Chair of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue.Authority, Coun David Acton, said: “Are thoughts are with those who have been affected by flooding today – we are working tirelessly across the North West to protect life and property.

Autos / Google To Team Up With Ford To Build Self-driving Cars by freetimes: 8:26am On Dec 23, 2015
Google may not manufacture its own cars after all, but rather team up with Ford to build its self-driving vehicles.

The two companies will announce that they are pairing up to make piloted cars during next month's Consumer Electronics Show, Yahoo Autos reports.

Although that report is still unverified, the Ford partnership could add validity.
Chances are good the scoop is true, however.
In November, Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. said that the carmaker would need to pair with big tech companies in order to survive the coming series of revolutions facing the transportation
industry.

If Google and Ford do team up, the move could signal that people inside Google realized that manufacturing a car from scratch was unfeasible — or at least far too costly. ...

Politics / Biafra: Kanu Faces Fresh Charges by freetimes: 8:06am On Dec 23, 2015
The Federal Government has filed six counts including treasonable felony against the founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, before a Federal High
Court in Abuja.

Two other persons charged along with Kanu are Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.

The fresh case against Kanu was filed on Friday, barely 24 hours after another judge of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, ordered Kanu’s unconditional release
from the custody of the Department of State Services.

The fresh charges were filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mohammed Diri, for the Attorney General of the Federation.

Justice Ademola ordered the DSS to release Kanu unconditionally since there were no pending charges against him about two months after his detention.

But instead of releasing him, the Federal
Government filed fresh charges against
him on Friday.

The fresh case was listed to come up before Justice Ahmed Mohammed on Tuesday, it was however stalled due to the absence of the prosecution in court.
The judge later clarified that there was a mix-up because the hearing notice was not served on the prosecution.

While Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, was in court on Tuesday, the accused were not produced but there was heavy presence of policemen around the court, a usual feature which signified the hearing date of high profile cases.

No date has been fixed for the arraignment of the accused persons on the six counts filed before Justice Ahmed Mohammed last Friday, but Ejiofor said he would file a bail application for his client
by Wednesday.

Kanu and the two others were charged with treasonable felony, an offence the prosecution says is punishable under Section 41(C) of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

The prosecution also accused the three men of managing an unlawful society – the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Foreign Affairs / One Million Migrants Entered Europe This Year by freetimes: 6:55am On Dec 23, 2015
More than one million migrants and refugees have entered Europe this year, according to an intergovernmental organisation.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) says the million mark was crossed on Monday - a more than a four-fold increase in comparison with last year.

The actual number of arrivals recorded as having entered the continent by 21 December was 1,005,504.

The Geneva-based group says more than 800,000 crossed into Greece from Turkey during 2015, including more than m 455,000 from Syria and over 186,000 from Afghanistan.

Nearly 3,700 others died trying to cross the Mediterranean amid Europe's worst refugee crisis since World War II, it added.

Foreign Affairs / Syria Conflict: Russia Air Strikes 'killed 200 Civilians' by freetimes: 6:31am On Dec 23, 2015
At least 200 civilians have been killed in Russian air strikes in Syria, an Amnesty International report says, quoting witnesses and activists.

It says it "researched remotely" more than 25 Russian attacks in five areas between 30 September and 29 November.
The findings indicate "serious failures [by Russia] to respect international humanitarian law", Amnesty says.

Moscow has repeatedly denied causing civilian deaths, describing such claims as part of "information warfare".

Russia began air strikes targeting Islamic State militants (IS) and other groups on 30 September, saying it was acting at the request of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Moscow has also been accused of bombing rebel groups opposed to Mr Assad but backed by the West.

'No military targets'

In the report, Amnesty said it had researched the Russian attacks in Homs, Hama, Idlib, Latakia and Aleppo.

The group said it had "interviewed by phone or over the internet 16 witnesses to attacks and their aftermath", including doctors and human rights activists....... Continue reading @

Politics / Arms Deal: Dasuki Gets Second Bail, Another Case Pending by freetimes: 6:39am On Dec 22, 2015
Former National Security Adviser (NSA) retired Col. Sambo Dasuki and five others have been granted bail in the second charge of diversion of funds before an FCT High Court.

The bail bonds, which are worth N250 million for each, will be produced by two sureties for each of the accused persons, an aggregate of N3 billion.

Ruling on the bail application yesterday, Justice Peter Affen ordered that the sureties must be retired or serving civil servants of not less than the rank of director.

The judge said the sureties must have a property in the FCT valued at N250 million by surveyors, and must swear to an affidavit of means.

The judge further ordered the accused persons to deposit their international passport with the court registrar.
The judge warned against the re-arrest of the
accused persons, adding that if there is need for
further investigation, they should be invited by the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) within the hours of 9am to 6pm and they
must be allowed to go home afterwards.

The judge ordered the remand of the accused persons in Kuje prisons pending the perfection of the bail conditions.

Dasuki was arraigned on a 22-count charge of alleged conspiracy, breach of trust and misappropriation of funds meant for arms valued at N8.7 billion.
Those also arraigned are: Attahiru Bafarawa, former
governor of Sokoto State, his son Sagir Attahiru; Bashir Yuguda, former Minister of Finance; ýDalhatu Investment Ltd, a company owned by Sagir and Shuaibu Salisu, a former director of Finance in the office of the NSA.

Earlier on December 16, the bail application was
argued by defence counsels P.T. Akpa, Ahmed
Raji, Joshua Olatoke, and H. O. Afolabi, all Senior
Advocates of Nigeria, who maintained that the
offences are bailable, while hinting that if proved
against their clients, the case can be resolved
through non-custodial measures.
But prosecution counsel Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) had
opposed the bail application, insisting that the
offences are serious. He claimed that the accused
persons could jeorpadise ongoing investigations if
released on bail.

The trial has been fixed for February 2 and 3,
2016.
Dasuki and four others are also facing a separate
19-count charge of funds diversion to the tune of
N13.570 billion before another court of the FCT
High Court.
They were on Friday also granted bail by the court
in the sum of N250 million with one surety each in
like sum.
In the charges, Dasuki was arraigned along with:
Shuaibu Salisu, a former director of finance in his
office, Aminu Baba-Kusa, a former Group Executive
Director of NNPC; Acacia Holdings Ltd and
Reliance Hospital Ltd.

Waripamowei Dudafa, a former aide to President
Jonathan is said to be at large.
Dasuki was first arraigned before a Federal High
Court in Abuja on a five counts charge of unlawful
possession of firearms and money laundering
