What is the justification for ABU receiving more funding than UI and UNN? Both universities seem to be doing better when you consider their THE/QS rankings.
Imo, if the FG gives some of these unis more autonomy they will perform even better but certain things have to be addressed first.

Well, I'm sure you know the answer it is nepotism. ABU despite being the most funded university in Nigeria is the worst performing among the first generation universities. It is the only first generation university without presence on the Times Higher Education Ranking. It is really a pity.

There's nothing really architectural about those buildings, neither will they have any worth in terms of tourism in the future.
If Ibadan were to be the South East, most of those buildings would have been pulled down with modern buildings replacing them. I remember the Anglican and Catholic churches we met when we were kids. They weren't really bad, as a matter of fact, some of them had a little bit of European church architecture. They've all been demolished today and replaced with bigger and modern church auditoriums. A few of the buildings in Ibadan could have been left behind anyway to serve as memorials, but not having a large expanse of land crowded with such buildings, with people still living in them.
They are simply not worthy of human habitation in the 21st century. Fact!

With a landmass about the size of Oyo State the south east is very small hence you have to demolish your old buildings to pave way for new ones.

It is as simple as that

Elders and children are now the same. I stand to be corrected,if what happened in Lagos during the election should be in Enugu,it would have been openly condemned with elders taking the lead .ask any Yorubas who lived or live in Enugu. Igbos don't discriminate or hostile to strangers because as predominantly businessmen they are, that would be bad for business. Yorubas, please please leave them alone. Whatever they are in their small world was given to them by God,YOU can't change it .The case of Demola is a pure case of he is a Judas but our Judas amongst Yorubas. This is not the Yoruba I know and use to hear about. Politics is a curse indeed. A little property I want to buy is being delayed by one Alhaji whom I give so many things from time to time.He even borrowed some money from my wife few days ago. Reason,Omo Igbo can't just get it whereas no Omo Yoruba has been interested. A property that doesn't belong to him. My landlord hated me before just no reasons. he even said that he learnt that I have an investment nearby. Thank GOD that today, he said I am the best. Let us learn to mind our businesses.,Peace is the best. All my great friends are Yorubas. those who fight me at work are still Yorubas. I often ask my friends why, they just tell me I shouldn't mind them. If we fight, what happens to my sister's married there? How about my cousins and nephews? How do we separate what GOD has eternally given??

Stop playing the victim's card, a friend of mine was denied admission to study law in your UNN after scoring the required Mark he was reminded that he is an Yoruba.

The fact that your lands are largely homogeneous gives credence to your hostile nature.

You come to people's land and start claiming it is no mans land and you still expect them to sell properties to you. I just pity the innocent people that this crises that is being brewed will consume.

All property can be divided between real property and personal property. Real property includes real estate, land and anything permanently affixed to it, and the bundle of legal rights related to the real estate. Any new development of land, such as constructing buildings, is known as an improvement

i wont discuss this issue of appreciation of fixed assets again with you..lets face the original discuss.

You lack the wisdom to comprehend economics and thats not my fault because you skipped the class in school..

Education / Times Higher Education Ranking Of The Most Beautiful Universities In Africa. by Frenchkiss564: 7:38am On Mar 01, 2019
The 10 most beautiful universities in Africa
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you’d be hard pressed not to see the beauty in these 10 African universities

Africa is home to some of the world’s most diverse landscapes, from towering mountains to sweeping plains to lush forests, and some of these stunning features end up being part of a university campus.

At Times Higher Education Student, we’ve looked through lots of pictures of African universities to whittle them down to the ones that are the most aesthetically pleasing – those with interesting architecture or that use the lay of the land as a prominent feature. The most beautiful universities in Africa can be found across the continent in South Africa, Uganda and Senegal.

We know that you shouldn’t really pick a university based on how pretty it is, but it is also important that you find a university environment that aligns with the type of experience you want to have. Whether it’s out in the mountains or in the middle of a city, a university’s setting can play a huge part in your experience as a student.

1. The University of Cape Town, South Africa

Founded in 1829 as a high school for boys, the
University of Cape Town is the oldest university in South Africa. It moved the majority of its facilities to Groote Schuur on the slopes of Devil’s Peak in 1928, on land bequeathed to the nation by Cecil John Roades. Many of the buildings on Groote Schuur are made of red-roofed stone in classical revival style, providing a stunning contrast to the magnificent craggy peaks of Cape Town’s mountain range. It’s no wonder that the
University of Cape Town often tops the list of the world’s most beautiful universities.

2. Stellenbosch University, South Africa

Although it began life as the Stellenbosch Gymnasium in 1866, it is hard to believe that the Stellenbosch University campus was used for anything but studying and learning, with its breathtaking mountain view. Located on the banks of the Eerste River, the university is in the heart of South Africa’s wine country and is a mere 50km from Cape Town.

3. The University of Pretoria, South Africa

The University of Pretoria began its journey in 1908 as an English-language institution based in a four-bedroom house in the centre of Pretoria, and it is now considered one of South Africa’s “heavies” on the higher education front. It has six huge campuses, with its main one in Pretoria, the capital of Gauteng province. The city is known for its beautiful lilac jacaranda trees, which blossom over the campus. Perhaps the most picturesque location is the Old Arts building on the Hatfield campus, which was built in 1910 and was declared a national monument in 1968. The sandstone beauty boasts a clock tower, Oregon pine floors and slate staircases, as well as a stunning view over the sprawling, immaculate lawns.

4. Gaston Berger University, Senegal

Spread over 240 hectares, Gaston Berger University is 13km from the Senegalese city of Saint-Louis, home of the world-famous annual jazz festival. The campuses are spread over two towns on the northern tip of Senegal, Sanar Peulh and Sanar Wolof. Although the towns are dotted with colourful French colonial-era architecture, the buildings on campus are more modern; the central point is the library’s tower, which can be seen from the national road running from Richard-Toll to the Mauritanian border. The campus is packed with shady courtyards, so students are spoilt for choice of tranquil study spots at Gaston Berger.

5. University of Ghana, Ghana

Originally an affiliate college of the University of London, the University of Ghana was founded in 1948 and sits on a huge area of land just 12km from Accra. Its architecture is a real strong point – the beaming white walls and red roofs pair well with the plants, trees and flowers growing on campus. The Balme Library is the nucleus of the campus and is regarded as one of the best libraries in West Africa, complete with a freshwater pond. The university has been featured as a backdrop in many films and TV programmes, including the Ghanaian hit series Sun City .

6. Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria

Founded in 1961 as the University of Ife, it was renamed the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in 1987. Located on 53km of land in Ife-Ife, an ancient Yoruba city in Osun State, south-west of Nigeria, the university comprises both natural and architectural wonders. There are sculptured busts of famous Nigerians dotted all over the campus and many buildings are characterised by a modern slanting style, especially the Spider building, which – according to students – looks as if it might be slowly seeping into the ground.

7. The University of Lagos, Nigeria

In terms of flora and fauna, the University of Lagos ticks all the boxes. It boasts an entrance way lined with palm trees, shady courtyards, parks, a “love garden”, a botanical garden and even a zoo, and students will soon become accustomed to the chatter of monkeys, tweeting birds and bugs. A breezy grove looks out on the crab-filled Lagos Lagoon, as well as the third Mainland Bridge – the second-longest bridge in Africa.

8. Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria

Founded in 1962, the Ahmadu Bello University was named after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of northern Nigeria. It is spread over the Samuru main campus and Kongo campus in Zaria, Kano State, and students can expect modern structures, water features, topiary and plenty of green space to kick back in.

9. Uganda Christian University, Uganda

The Uganda Christian University is in a suburban area of the town of Mukono, on the former location of Bishop Tucker Theological College, one of Uganda’s oldest colleges. There are extensive sports grounds dotted with plants, grasses and trees, as well as the lush green Agape Square areas. The recent addition of the Hamu Mukasa Library has wowed students, particularly when it is lit up at night.

10. Covenant University, Nigeria

While some sub-Saharan universities are all old glory and history, Covenant University is more of a modern wonder. Located in Ota, Ogun State in Nigeria, it is complete with a swimming pool, a football pitch, and basketball and volleyball courts. Expect plenty of green space and some stunning cherry trees.

That's the reason some of these scholars don't teach Islamic history and if they will, they only tell you sweet parts and not sorry parts.

Second, they are introducing truth to you via personalities. This is why people feel greatly disappointed when they discovered the real truth about some of these persons. Imam Ali ibn Abi Taalib says:

"The religion of Allah is not recognized through men, but through a sign of truth. So, know the truth and you shall know it's people."

I am not proselytizing my thought but truth be told, this is why Sunni especially the salafis hate the Shia because the later question the truthfulness, righteousness and credibility of many sahabah based on existing clear facts. Imagine, sahabah who drink alcohol, rape, kill unjustly, lies, violate ruling of Quran and sunnah of the Prophet etc and you are asking me to respect such and if I don't, I will be label "heretic and kafir". I will rather accept to be labeled than following monsters.

And don't get me wrong sirs, there are exceptional and excellent sahabah whose righteousness is incomparable. It is however an insult to these great ones when you put them in the same basket with some of the hypocrites and monsters among them saying all of them are righteous.

Clearly understood bro

What I know is the day of Judgement is pregnant with a lot of surprises.

I feel you, my brother. The first time I heard how the so-called pious sahaba were warring amongst each other when rosool(SAW) had just left them, i lost 95% of my respect for them. I have never been so gutted in my life. Worse still, I learned it from a Christian. I could never have imagined those sahaba actually descended so low.
If I didn't know better I could have left the fold of Islam in the wake of the truth about the sahaba.

And these people lived and dined with the prophet, saw him perform miracles, witnessed everything first hand and yet still stoop this low.

It is still a shock to me bro, if a Christian had told me this I would have swore with my life that none of the prophet's companion could perform this attraocities.

If we refused to talk about it how then are we different from the Christians with their "touch not my anointing thingy"

Omoh..... A lot of shit went down after the prophet's death.

some of these people that lives after his death aren't even as pious as we were led to believe. The truth can never be hidden for ever.

The day of judgement will surely churn out a lot of surprises but everyone will be busy with their own cup of tea.

ModestGal:
Message to All my Muslim brethren always blaming the WEST for our Misfortune ( I call this our misfortune because its ours, if two Muslims are killing each other, its our misfortune).
Please my question to you all, How can I ask you to kill your mother and I gave you emotional support with equipment to kill your mother and you went ahead to kill your mother, who is to be blamed for killing your mother if not YOU.
Since SAUDI Arabia has made it an OBLIGATION to disgrace the rest of us MUSLIMS by throwing BOMBS at Yemen, why blaming another country for it?

Kindly Quote a place for me in the Qur'an where Allah support MUMUISM? Or did the prophet support MUMUISH behavior in any way? Iran and Iraq were at WAR and you are blaming America,Boko Haram is killing their fellow tribes and you are blaming America, you will be blaming the same WEST you know that doesn't have Islam for the fights, criminal and inhuman acts our Muslim brethren are committing.
Is it America that also made Pakistanis killing each other like chicken's and fowls, burning one another. Take it or leave it, Muslims are in no way peaceful all around the world. Islam means peace, preaches peace but Muslims are not peaceful in any way. If I am wrong, tell me Muslim dominated area without everyday killings.
Thank God Nigeria is not a Muslim dominated country, that's why we are in a bit peaceful. Look at the North East, killings everyday. Watch Aljazeera and see them at war every minute and you think Muslims are Peaceful.
Whether you like it or not, this is the truth and its the fact, if you can stop blaming others for our problem maybe by now we would have solved the problem. Stop blaming America for our MUSLIM brothers MUMUISM. America did not read the Qur'an where Allah is telling us to love our fellow Muslims, They did not read where the prophet said you should love your Muslim brothers, neither did they read where the prophet said Muslims are one. They didn't read where the prophet said don't kill Children during war, don't kill anyone who pronounces Lailahaillahla, but our Muslim brothers have read that so they should be the one to know their right from their left. So please ehn, bikonu, stop blaming others for your own misfortunes

The funniest thing is that most Muslim's will prefer to live in the so called "western enemies countries" and still accuse them of all the nonsense muslims are doing all over the world.

we, muslims need to do a thorough soul searching, we are our own enemies. My Yoruba people will say bi iku ile o pani ti ode o le pani.

Are Buhari and Atiku the only candidates here? We have the likes of Kingsley Moghalu, a Ph.D holder and former central bank deputy governor who was the brains behind the 2009 rescue of the banking sector. But for him, many Nigerians would have lost their life savings to the likes of Ibru, Atuche and Akingbola and the other thieving bastards preying on bank customers' funds.

There are also other cerebral candidates here. Sound. intellectual guys who have what it takes to drive the country to the next level.

It is like APC and PDP has cast a spell on many Nigerians.

God bless you for this post. I don't know why Nigerians can't just think outside the box of Buhari and Atiku.

The professor is right ASUU is a big problem. Only an insane union would request 1.3 trillion naira from a country whose budget hovers around 7-9 trillion. Never mind the 2% statutory Ed tax in Tetfund which ASUU has refused to share with government hospitals.

Should NUT or other Medical associations behave like ASUU then this nation would have been on ground halt. A developing Nation has many needs requiring urgent attention, therefore the govt cannot afford to tilt too much to the side of one sector - more disturbing is ASUU's continued lie about UNESCO's 26% mandatory education budget - who knows where they get that from.

ASUU should take a leaf from NLC, if they must go on strike then it should be once in maybe five years. Stop going on strike every six months as though govt is not paying your salaries.

As it is Uni of Ibadan wage bill(13 billion)fully paid by FG is more than the IGR of Ekiti, Yobe and Ebonyi put together. Multiply that by all the fed unis. Think of the polys and College of Edus.

The University of Witwatersrand, South Africa today has 100% industry funding - south africa today has issues funding universities but the universities are taking initiatives to the private sector and are getting funding. The ASUU officials here only put on the cap of creativity when they want to go on the next strike.

Bravo!!!
