The Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday confirmed that its operatives arrested Omoyele Sowore.

Earlybaze had reported that Sowore, the convener of planned Revolution Now protest against bad governance, was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday.

The political activist raised the alarm in a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am which reads, “DSS invades Sowore’s apartment.”

DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, while addressing reporters in Abuja Sunday afternoon, said Sowore was taken into custody because he called for a revolution in Nigeria, The Nation reports.

The spokesperson said the secret police was “aware” of information that Sowore had been in touch with foreign actors to destabilise Nigeria

The DSS official, however, declined to give details on where Sowore was being kept and when he would be arraigned in court.

Crime / Murdered Catholic Priest: Stop Causing Mischief With Fr. Mbaka’s Name – Val Nnad by Fruittie: 9:59pm On Aug 03, 2019
Mr. Val Nnadozie, an ally to fiery Enugu priest, the Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has described as an act of mischief, a report, with an accompanying picture, claiming that the priest was on the streets protesting the murder of another Catholic priest in Enugu State, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu.

Earlybaze reports that some priests had staged protest over the killing of their colleague by gunmen.

Fr. Mbaka was said to have also stormed the streets in protest.

But in a statement he issued on Saturday, Nnadozie said the report was an act of wickedness.

The statement read:

“I am shocked to see that some unscrupulous individuals using equally unscrupulous media houses decided to associate Rev. Fr. Ejike Camillus Mbaka with the protests by some Rev Frs of Enugu Dioceses on the 02/08/2019, and I wish to state that as much as Fr. Mbaka grieves on the murder of Fr. Offu, he was nowhere near Enugu as at the time of the protest.

I Mr. Valentine Nnaedozie picked Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka up from Abuja airport at about 8pm being Thursday 1st of August 2019, him having travelled through Lagos after attending the all Enugu Diocessan Priests’ meeting with the Bishop.

In the morning of 02/08/2019, I took him to the Chinese Embassy for his Visa appointment and later dropped him at the airport to catch his 4pm flight to Enugu so he couldn’t have been seen at Enugu holding the placard as reported by a section of the media.

Why must people try to rope in Fr. Mbaka’s name wickedly into such a serious issue. This is because as at the time of this publication, he was still in the Chinese embassy.
I was with him when the news of the murder was broken to him, he cried. I was with him as he made calls to ascertain the authenticity of the news.

This is just to put the records straight. We shall trace those behind the fake news and find out why someone would take the face of Fr. Mbaka and put on the body of another person who was part of the protest and bring them to justice.”

The Ogun State police command has released names of five pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Earlybaze had reported that the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, announced the abduction of the clerics on Friday at the Redeemed Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Adeboye, while charging the congregation to pray for the release of the abductees, said the abduction took place on Thursday along the Ijebu-Ode axis.

“As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the Ministers Conference?” he had asked.

Speaking with journalists on Friday in Abeokuta, the police spokesman in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed names of the RCCG pastors.

Oyeyemi identified the victims as Chidioze Eluwa, Chiemela Iroha, Okoro Ohowukwe, Ndubuizi Owuabueze, and Ibeleji Chidinma (female

Crime / Agent Attempts To Use Housemaids To Rob Employees by Fruittie: 12:11am On Jul 29, 2019
Agent attempts to use housemaids to rob employees

Police Okputu was alleged to specialise in assisting people to get maids with the motive of using them to rob their employers’ money, jewellery and other valuables. The suspect, who claimed to be a former dry-cleaner, had been using his influence to bring job seekers to Lagos. His wife also helps him bring people from her home town to work in Lagos as housemaids.

The suspect confessed that his mode of operation is to help the job seekers get jobs and collect half of their salary for the first month as a commission fee. In his confessional statement, Francis said he gets jobs for about 15 domestic workers every year, but began to change his tactics after his financial burdens rose. His words: “I have been helping Lagosians get house help and everybody in my neighbourhood knows that is what I do.

They also make recommendations and link me with their relatives, who need my service. “Sometime in May, a friend directed one Joy Onoz to me to help her get a housemaid job, which I did and all was fine until the next month when she began to tell me that her mistress does not like her and she will like me to do something about it.

“When I got to know that Joy’s madam is wealthy, I called Joy and warned her not to speak English anymore and to steal her madam’s money, jewellery and also help me get her picture.

“The gold jewellery, I told Joy, would be replaced with copper and I will take the picture to a prophetess, who will help him bewitch and make her not to question any of the girl’s deeds after stealing her things.” Housemaid’s confession Joy, in her confession to policemen about her agent’s move to loot her employer, quickly told her madam of Francis’ plans and they played along with his arrangement.

The mistress gave Joy some hard currencies and jewellery and her picture and told her to contact Francis. Francis, unknowingly, instructed Joy to meet him at Iyana-Ipaja to handover her loots to him and that he would arrange how to get the imitations to her. Officers, who had been contacted by the employer, swung into action and laid an ambush for Francis at the agreed location where he was arrested after receiving the loots.

After his arrest, the decoy team of RRS visited some housemaid that Francis had installed in different parts of the state to question them and also advised them to steer clear of any plan that is contrary to law. The Police also visited the said prophetess, who was to help Francis hypnotise Joy’s mistress. She disclosed that the last time she saw him was in February 2018, when he came for prayer and asked her to help hypnotise a woman who employed one of his clients, but that she refused his demand and sent him out of her church because she does not indulge in such practice as a servant of God.

Recovered from Francis at Iyana-Ipaja, the point of exchange of the stolen items, were $15 dollars, sets of gold jewellery worth N450,000 and a picture.

Crime / Kidnap: Edo Govt, Police Command Mandate Lgas To Replicate Bush Clearing by Fruittie: 11:45pm On Jul 26, 2019
http://earlybaze.com.ng/2019/07/26/kidnap-edo-govt-police-command-mandate-lgas-to-replicate-bush-clearing/

The Edo State Government and the Police Command in the state have mandated Chairmen of the 18 local government areas in the state to replicate the ongoing bush clearing along federal highways in their domains to flush out kidnappers hiding in the bushes. Edo State Commissioner of Police, DanMallam Mohammed (3rd right), with other officers and men of the Command, inspecting clearing of bushes along Benin-Lagos Road. Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said on Friday that the strategy to clear road sides of bushes has engendered confidence in the minds of travellers and drivers plying the Benin-Lagos road.

“At the state level, we are clearing bushes on the highways in partnership with the Edo State Police Command and local government chairmen have been mandated to carry out similar exercise on road sides in their domains, in partnership with heads of divisional police formations” Osagie said.

He added: “We are of the firm belief that a mix of strategies, including the clearing of the bushes on road sides would reduce the incidence of herdsmen attacks and kidnappings.” The governor’s aide explained that the bush clearing initiative is a response to the nefarious activities of criminals perpetuated in the thick bushes on the highways in the state.

He noted: “Our plan is to cascade this initiative to the local councils and rid our roads of criminals. We appeal to village and community heads to mobilise youths in their areas to clear bushes on road sides in their communities.” Recall that the Edo State Government and the State Police Command commenced the bush clearing exercise earlier in the week in a move to check activities of kidnappers terrorising motorists along Benin-Lagos Road. Addressing journalists at Okada Town on Thursday, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, DanMallam Mohammed, said the bushes would be cleared 30 meters away from both sides of the expressway close to Ore axis of the Benin-Lagos Road.

Benin Elders back Obaseki’s proclamation letter to Edo Assembly(Opens in a new browser tab) He noted, “We found out that the kidnappers take advantage of the deep forest close to the expressway to hide their victims. With support from the Edo State Government, we are clearing the bushes along both sides of the road. With this, we can get a proper view of the forest and also apprehend the kidnappers when they try to run out of the forest.” The state Police boss said members of the Command will patrol deep into the forest daily to ensure the camps of the bandits are destroyed while security presence had been beefed up along the Benin – Lagos Express Road. He said the state police command had earlier raided the forest and destroyed hideouts before embarking on clearing of the bushes, adding, “This is a strategic security measure put in place to curb the spate of banditry and kidnapping in the state. The exercise started in the last two weeks in order to kick out bandits and kidnappers from the state.

Health / NAFDAC Warns Against The Consumption Of Ponmo by Fruittie: 11:06pm On Jul 26, 2019
NAFDAC Warns against the consumption of Ponmo

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned the general public to be careful of the consumption of animal hides, known as Ponmo.

A statement signed by the Director General (DG) of the agency, Mrs Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that most of those animal hides were meant for industrial use.

Adeyeye added that some of the animal hides were pre-treated with industrial chemicals, which were not of food grade and were toxic and injurious to human health.

According to the her, investigations have revealed that some companies legally imported hides from countries like Lebanon and Turkey, while majority of the product were smuggled into the country through the porous borders.

“The Management of NAFDAC wishes to use this medium to alert the general public and in particular consumers of animal hides popularly known as Ponmo on the activities of some unscrupulous business men and traders.

“These imported animal hides are meant for industrial use by leather industries for the manufacturing of items such as shoes, bag, belt and others.

“Health hazards inherent in the consumption of such animal hides include risk of liver, kidney and heart damage, increased risk of Aplastic anaemia, central nervous system toxicity, cancer and many more,’’ she said.

The DG also said live stock farmers were also advised to note that industrial animal hides could not be used to manufacture animal feed.

“The associated chemicals will be stored in the tissues of these animals and will eventually end up in humans when consumed with the attendant effects.

“NAFDAC, therefore, encourage the general public to be vigilant and exercise discretion when purchasing animal hides, PONMO and indeed other food items,’’ Adeyeye said in the statement.

She stated that NAFDAC was fully alive to its responsibilities of assuring the safety, wholesomeness and quality of processed foods offered for sale to the public.

“The agency has increased the tempo of targeted and aggressive routine and unannounced inspections to monitor activities of animal hide merchants.

Politics / Glo, MTN Taking Us For Granted – Customers Lament Poor Networks by Fruittie: 1:20pm On Jul 26, 2019
Glo, MTN taking us for granted – Customers lament poor networks

http://earlybaze.com.ng/2019/07/26/glo-mtn-taking-us-for-granted-customers-lament-poor-networks/

Customers of two giant telecom operators in Nigeria, Globacom and Mobile Telecommunication Network, MTN, have lamented the current poor network in the capital city of Nigeria, Abuja, especially within the satellite axis of the nation’s capital.

It has been recently observed, especially with the recent heavy downpour in Abuja, that networks of both operators have become quite erratic, especially in the satellite towns of Kubwa, Dutsen- Alhaji, Sokale, Bwari, Ushafa village, Jigo, Kpambara, Dei-Dei and a host of another axis, making effective mobile communication almost impossible.

Some customers, while raising the alarm have blamed the constant rain on the networks, saying the network issue was normal, especially “when we get into a season like this.”

Mr Amos Tanko told DAILY POST at Phase 4 in Kubwa that, “It’s normal at this time to experience network problem. It’s a general problem. It’s due to the heavy rain and there is nothing the operators can do about it. In fact, we experience same with DSTV. In this part of our world, natural occurrences affect technologies.”

But Mr Francis Ndukwe who resides in Adefemi, Ushafa said the problem was far beyond just the rain. He said the telecommunication companies were not able to power their masts 24/7. ” The problem is not just the rain. It’s actually a problem of failure or inability to power the masts hosting these networks 24/7. It is disappointing that each time we experience bad weather, networks become terrible. You can’t make or receive calls. This is sad. This cannot happen in advanced countries. You don’t treat your customers this way. The payment we are making in the purchase of recharged cards is supposed to service these masts effectively. It’s sad, but we have resolved to live with it. Besides, the government is not checking. This is what NCC should constantly check,” he lamented.

According to Mrs Adefemi of Dei-Dei, ” We have reached a point in this country that we just need to tell ourselves the obvious truth that nothing is going to work. The more you complain, the messier things get. Why can’t they power their masts? ”Just go around most of these masts, you won’t even see anybody around to ask why there is no network. Can this happen even in South Africa or Ghana? MTN and DSTV are South African companies, go to their country for instance, everything is working just fine. How can making and receiving of calls be our problem in the 21st century? It’s sad. Please, I want to know those in charge of Glo masts in Pmagbe Layouts in Ushafa. The thing is terrible now. We hardly have network once it starts raining. Mostly, we don’t have network on our phones at night. Is that not a huge security risk? If something happens at night, what will one do?”

Dahiru Adamu said, ” I have noticed that most telecom operators depend on public power supply. Once the area is out of power, network goes off. I don’t think we need to depend on public power supply to run this, as we are still battling with epileptic power supply. Unfortunately, most of the solar panels and generators attached to these masts are bad. They don’t work most of the time. ”

Effort to reach the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, through Omoniyi Ibietan, Head Online Media and Special Publications failed as his number was switched off as at the time this report was filed.

When DAILY POST reached Glo mobile via text message after several calls went on answered, it was acknowledged, but answers were not provided to the question on why the network has become erratic.

Similarly, effort to reach MTN to draw the company’s attention to the development failed as calls weren’t going through to the numbers our reporter called.

Politics / Fulani Herdsmen Reject FG, Cbn’s Strategies On Ban Of Milk Importation by Fruittie: 1:03pm On Jul 26, 2019
Fulani herdsmen reject FG, CBN’s strategies on ban of milk importationPublished on July 26, 2019 By Rufai Oladimeji.

Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has reacted to the Federal Government’s move to ban the importation of milk.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had earlier in the week said it will place a ban on the importation of milk and other dairy products into the country.

The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele disclosed this on Tuesday at the end of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja.

He said that FG was concluding plans to effect the policy of restricting allocation of foreign exchange (FOREX) for milk importation into Nigeria.

The CBN boss, however, noted that for implementation of such a policy requires a robust strategy that addresses underlying issues.

The herdsmen, in a statement to DAILY POST on Friday signed by Baba Othman Ngelzarma, its National Secretary, note that the “National Livestock Transformation Plan of (NLTP) is an integrated plan that holistically solves the historic challenges that has deprived the pastoralists from producing high quantity and quality beef and dairy products demanded by the Nigerian market, ensuring that their goods do not end up being sold at sub-standard prices.

“NLTP modernizes the industry through handholding the pastoralists and allowing ranches to develop organically with pastoralists as core participants in the Livestock production chain which will ultimately impact wealth creation and knowledge transfer mechanisms. This we strongly believe is a safer, more stable sustainable pathway than one which favour only one part of the Livestock system.

“For MACBAN, partnership with domestic and foreign value chain actors is critical. Whether with fodder and pasture specialists at NAPRI, Zaria or dairy processors from Europe or cross-breeding specialists from Brazil or vaccine developers from NVRI, Vom in Jos, partnership across the livestock ecosystem is a requirement. Any plan that does not place such a step at its core is doomed to fail.

“Therefore, for MACBAN, the recent discussions between the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Development Finance Department and dairy processors is a non-starter.

“The challenge is not solved by lending money at 9% and requiring dairy companies to go to Kaduna, Niger, Plateau, Kano or Oyo to locate and develop at least 10,000 hectares of land within a grazing reserve commencing on or before September 2019.

“We believe such approach does not speak to the aspirations of our members because without the Pastoralist crop farmers, processors, bankers, ranchers, technical workers, extension service providers, geneticists, and other stakeholders being involved, the likely hood of failure will be very high.

“What is also most alarming with the CBN proposal is the invitation given to the dairy processors to come up with their own plan on how they will develop their dairy farms of at least 10,000 Ha in the grazing reserves proposed to them by CBN with cheap CBN loans at 9% interest.

“This move is disastrous on two counts: one, it disregards completely FGN approved NLTP that clearly outlines the necessary steps needed to be taken to transform the livestock subsector over 10 years in line with the desires and aspirations of all consulted stakeholders.

“Secondly, the need for FGN regulations and incentives for the roles of all partners in the transformation processes to achieve the goals of peaceful coexistence between crop farmers and pastoralists as well as enhancement of the pastoral productivity through organic modernization of the pastoral production base with capacity to retain their cultural livestock linkage in modernity and innovation for generations to come.

“In view of this, we are advising the CBN to retrace its steps and take a productive role that does not undo the work done to date. As much as the infusion of capital into the livestock sub-sector is deeply appreciated and welcome, it must occur in the right strategic, stakeholder and cluster development context as provided in the NLTP framework.

“It is important that the spirit of partnership and transparent dialogue with which the NLTP was developed be maintained and allowed to thrive. Secret, coerced, backroom deals struck based on fear and threats including withdrawal of access to foreign exchange cannot be the model for solving a problem of this magnitude.

“That is at the heart of a growing security crisis and existential dimensions that requires long-term strategic investment and execution framework by the very nature of livestock production characteristics. Therefore, CBN should in all sincerity come to the table and join the all-inclusive reformist efforts underway under the NLTP rather than reinvent the wheel once again.

“Furthermore, Transforming Nigeria’s livestock sub-sector from a basic, subsistence low technology, conflict-stricken status into a world-class, productive, safe and profitable industry devoid of conflicts requires the involvement of all stakeholders including the pastoralists and crop farmers.

“There is a pilot project in Kachia Grazing Reserve in Kaduna State-funded by business innovation facility (BIF-UK AID) where a small scale dairy value change was set up and all the community within and around are participating and benefiting which at long run will resolve crisis between farmers and herders, create jobs for youth and women.

“Any plan that excludes the pastoralists and crop farmers, or does not solve what their essential challenges are falls short of our expectations and support.

“Our main challenges are:
1. To Upscale the pilot project of Kachia grazing reserve
2. Access to a more stable availability of pasture and water;
3. Access to land upon which pasture and water are harnessed;
4. Creation of peaceful coexistence between them and their crop farmers based on mutual interdependence;
5. Access to capacity development for the pastoralists and crop farmers around the grazing reserves to enable them to modernise their current system of livestock production through pilot ranch modelling demonstration; and
6. Access to a secure environment for their families with all the necessary education, health and other public-provided amenities necessary for the development of a modern, heterogeneous, prosperous and peaceful communities.
7. Livestock diseases control and management.

“Nigeria is today at a critical crossroads regarding how to restructure and transform its livestock industry. A restructured industry will produce milk, cheese, dairy supplements and a range of other products that make up a well-functioning dairy and beef cluster. Such a transformed livestock economy will create hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs from extension workers to ranchers to suppliers of forage to veterinarians etc. This industry estimated to be worth over a trillion Naira in market value, can by 2028 serve Nigeria and the broader African market given the emerging opportunities engendered by the new Free Trade Agreement across Africa.

“In view of this, The new National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) 2019-2028 approved by the National Economic Council (NEC) and supported by a deep network of stakeholders’ consultations across the country is the right framework for delivering on this vision. Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) participated extensively in the dialogue leading up to the development of the strategy and endorsed its final form enthusiastically.”

Crime / How Arsenal Stars Mesut Ozil And Sead Kolasinac Were Chased For A Mile By Knife by Fruittie: 8:03am On Jul 26, 2019
REVEALED - How terrified Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac were chased for a MILE by knife-

Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac were chased for a mile by knife-wielding motorbike riders in an attempted daylight car-jacking in north London yesterday.

Ozil, a £350,000-a-week midfielder, was ambushed by the robbers as he drove his black Mercedes G-Class through leafy Childs Hill at around 5pm on Thursday.

But as the thugs surrounded the 4×4, Ozil’s Arsenal teammate and childhood friend, Sead ‘The Tank’ Kolasinac, leapt out and bravely took them on.

CCTV footage form the scene shows Kolasinac swinging punches at the attackers and standing his ground against them despite being threatened with a knife. The attackers’ motorbike pulls away as the footage cuts.

But rather than that being the end of the drama, the players were then chased through the mansion-lined streets of north London in Ozil’s 4×4 in a high-speed chase that lasted for more than a mile.

The childhood friends sped towards a Turkish restaurant on Golders Green Road where they are known, and staff raced to their aid as they abandoned the Mercedes 4×4 in the road.

Witnesses said 30-year-old Ozil looked ‘terrified,’ as the waiters and chefs rushed to defend their friend.

One witness told MailOnline: ‘I saw Ozil being chased up my High Street by boys armed with knives.’

CCTV footage captured before the chase began shows burly 6ft Bosnian Kolasinac squaring up to and rushing at a robber whose face is obscured by a crash helmet

The 26-year-old darts toward the front end of the Mercedes to face off an attacker as he makes sure the front passenger door is protected.

The fullback then turns to the rear of the vehicle to steam towards an oncoming assailant who appears to be wielding a blade while wearing a motorbike helmet.

At this point Ozil is able to drive forward in the £100,000 SUV as Kolasinac swings his bare-fists at the thug.

Off camera, Kolasinac was able to rejoin Ozil in the car and they sped away together, pursued by the raiders.

Waiters and chefs from Turkish restaurant Likya rushed to the aid of the football stars when they arrived forcing the riders to flee empty handed.

Neither of the Premier League players from the north London club were harmed during the incident.

Financial worker Azuka Alintah, 36, told the MailOnline: ‘Ozil looked absolutely terrified, as anybody would after being chased by men with knives.

‘He looked like he was running for his life. And I suppose he was.

‘I saw him disappear into the restaurant with the motorcycle guys on his tail.

‘They didn’t take off their helmets and were all in black, wearing long sleeved tops in this hot weather. They stood out.

‘God knows what would have happened if they’d caught him. It looked to me like he’d have been hacked to shreds and he clearly thought so too.

‘As soon as the restaurant staff started to come to the window and to the doorway, they turned around and roared off.’

Kolasinac’s fearless defence of his teammate is unsurprising to many Gunners fans who saw how Ozil took the Bosniak under his wing when he joined the north London club in 2017.

The pair have been friends since their teenage years, when Kolasinac looked up to the five-years-older Ozil when they were both at German side Schalke 04.

They became exceptionally close and last month they were pictured together at Kolasinac’s marriage to Bella, alongside Ozil’s wife Amine Gulse in Baden, Germany.

Indeed, both Bella and Amine wore wedding dresses by the same designer at their recent ceremonies. The Ozils’ wedding in Instanbul took place in the same week as the Kolasinac’s and Turkey’s President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan was Ozil’s best man.

After yesterday’s attack, Ozil’s car, with distinctive gold trim, was left in the middle of the Golders Green Road with the driver’s door open.

After police arrived they blocked off the road as other units looked for the motorcycle raiders.

had only returned to London the day before after a successful pre-season tour in America.

The pair gave statements to police before being allowed to leave.

An Arsenal spokesman confirmed the players were involved in the failed carjacking, saying: ‘We have been in contact with both players and they are fine.’

The footballers were in action just the day before as the Premier League side played Real Madrid in 2-2 draw in Washington DC before a late night transatlantic flight.

Renowned Arsenal fan Piers Morgan tweeted: ‘Incredible guts from Sead Kolasinac – looks like he took on the whole moped/knife gang.’

The attack in Golders Green took place close to where comedian Michael McIntyre was forced to hand over his expensive watch after being set upon by an armed moped gang.

Mr MacIntyre had been parked outside his children’s school in Golders Green when the brazen thugs smashed up his car and ripped the £15,000 timepiece from him.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said on Thursday: ‘Police were called to NW3, shortly before 5pm on Thursday, 25 July to reports of an attempted robbery.

Imo: Video of massive estate EFCC allegedly traced to Okorocha’s wife

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, sealed off a massive estate allegedly traced to Nneoma Nkechi, wife of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

Okorocha is currently the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial district.

The estate is located in the Akachi area of Owerri, the State capital.

In a video obtained by Earlybaze on Thursday, the state-of-the-art estate has many units of block of flats.

The houses were allegedly built with state funds.

Earlybaze recalls that EFCC confirmed the seizure of assets and properties linked to Okorocha, his wife, daughter as well as associates including son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, who served as his Chief of Staff.

A statement by its spokesman, Tony Orilade, said “the marking of the properties which is a fall-out of our painstaking investigation, is as a result of the failure of the suspects to honour the Commission’s invitation for questioning on the propriety of their acquisition.

Travel / Government Imposes Visa Restrictions On Nigerians, Gives Reasons by Fruittie: 11:13am On Jul 24, 2019
Government imposes visa restrictions on Nigerians, gives reasons

The US Government has imposed visa restrictions on “individuals responsible for undermining the Nigerian democratic process.”

A spokesperson of the US Department of State, Ms Morgan Ortagus, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Ortagus explained that the action applied to those responsible for election-related violence.

According to her, the unidentified individuals had “operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights”.

“In a January 24 statement, the U.S. government said that we would consider consequences – including visa restrictions – for individuals responsible for undermining the Nigerian democratic process or for organising election-related violence.

“To that end, the Secretary of State is imposing visa restrictions on Nigerians believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining democracy in Nigeria.

“These individuals have operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights,” she said.

The spokesperson emphasised that the restrictions targeted at specific individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people or the newly-elected government.

“The United States is a steadfast supporter of Nigerian democracy.

“We commend all those Nigerians who participated peacefully in the February and March 2019 elections and have worked to strengthen Nigerian democratic institutions and processes.

“As Nigeria marks the 20th anniversary of a return to democratic rule this year, we remain committed to working together to continue to advance democracy and respect for human rights and achieve greater peace and prosperity for both our nations.

“We condemn those whose acts of violence, intimidation, or corruption harmed Nigerians or undermined the democratic process,” Ortagus added.

EFCC officials assisted by state officials forcefully gained entry into the premises and molested those on ground in the facility.

“Several students sustained varied degrees of injuries and are now currently receiving treatment. A girl was kicked in the stomach”, a staff told newsmen.

The situation escalated as staff of the Foundation who attempted to help the girl were also said to have been beaten.

It took the intervention of the principal of the school to bring the situation under control.

The school management, in reaction, lamented the action explaining that Rochas Foundation since inception in 1998 has graduated about 3,000 students of the vulnerable in the society.

Crime / British Man Admits Brutal Stabbing Of Hair Stylist Driven By Sexual Fantasy(pht) by Fruittie: 2:21am On Jul 24, 2019
British man admits brutal stabbing of hair stylist driven by sexual fantasy

A British man accused in the fatal stabbing of a hair stylist in Chicago that a prosecutor said was driven by a sexual fantasy has agreed to plead guilty in a US court and testify against his American co-defendant in the killing.

Andrew Warren, 58, formerly an employee at Oxford University, on Monday admitted first-degree murder and will give evidence against his accused fellow killer, a former Northwestern University professor, in exchange for a 45-year prison sentence.

Warren’s written plea agreement came almost two years after 26-year-old Trenton James Cornell-Duranleau’s body was discovered in July 2017, riddled with stab wounds in an apartment in Chicago.

Prosecutors later said the young man had been stabbed 70 times and with such brutality that he was nearly decapitated. His throat was slit and pulmonary artery torn.

The discovery prompted a nationwide hunt for Warren and the former professor, Wyndham Lathem, who lived in the apartment and was eventually identified as Cornell-Duranleau’s boyfriend.

Lathem and Warren, who at that point still worked at Oxford University, surrendered to authorities in California just days later.

Prosecutors spelled out how Warren and Lathem met in an online chatroom where they hatched a plot to kill Cornell-Duranleau and then themselves.

Natosha Toller, an assistant Cook county state’s attorney, in Illinois, described the plan as a sexual fantasy.

But after they killed Lathem’s lover, they lost their nerve and fled Chicago on a strange road trip to California that included a stop at a public library in which they made large donations in Cornell-Duranleau’s name.

The two, who both initially pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, are being held without bond in jail in Chicago.

No trial date has been set for Lathem, once a respected associate professor of microbiology-immunology at Northwestern, in Illinois. He is scheduled to return to court next week.

About half a dozen relatives and supporters of Cornell-Duranleau attended the hearing for the 58-year-old Warren on Monday but they left the courthouse without speaking to the media.

Sports / Russian Boxer Maxim Dadashev Dies After Sustaining Injuries During Fight(photo) by Fruittie: 11:51pm On Jul 23, 2019
Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev has died from brain injuries sustained in a fight in Maryland, the Russian boxing federation announced on Tuesday.

“Maxim Dadashev has died in the United States following injuries sustained during his fight with Subriel Matias,” the federation said in a statement.
The 28-year-old underwent emergency brain surgery in Washington after his super-lightweight bout with Puerto Rican Matias on Friday was stopped after the 11th round by his cornerman James “Buddy” McGirt.

Dadashev, known as “Mad Max”, was unable to walk to the dressing room and was immediately hospitalised.

Doctors operated to relieve pressure from swelling on his brain.

McGirt, who said after the fight he “couldn’t convince” his fighter to stop but opted to throw in the towel when he saw him “getting hit with more and more clean shots as the fight went on,” told ESPN on Tuesday he was wracking his brain wondering if he could have done things differently.

“It just makes you realize what type of sport we’re in, man,” McGirt told ESPN — which streamed the fight on its ESPN+ platform.

“He did everything right in training, no problems, no nothing. My mind is like really running crazy, right now. Like what could I have done differently? But at the end of the day, everything was fine (in training).

“He seemed OK, he was ready, but it’s the sport that we’re in. It just takes one punch, man.”

Russian boxing chief Umar Kremlev told Russian media that Dadashev’s body would be repatriated home and that his family would receive financial aid.

Dadashev’s widow, Elizaveta Apushkina, also issued a statement, confirming the fighter’s death “with great sadness.”

“He was a very kind person who fought until the very end. Our son will continue be raised to be a great man like his father,” she said of the St. Petersburg-born fighter who trained in Oxnard, California.

Dadashev took an unbeaten 13-0 record into the 140-pound non-title fight.

Dadashev, whose manager Egis Klimas also handles Vasiliy Lomachenko and Sergey Kovalev, turned pro in April of 2016 and relocated to Southern California to pursue his ring ambitions, eventually signing with promoters Top Rank.

Top Rank chairman Bob Arum issued a statement recalling Dadashev as “a terrific young man.”

ESPN, which streamed the bout on ESPN+, also issued a statement.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with Dadashev’s family, friends, trainers and the team at Top Rank,” the statement said.

Dadashev was rated in the top five by two world sanctioning organizations going into Friday’s fight in suburban Washington DC, an elimination bout for the right to become mandatory challenger for Josh Taylor’s IBF title.

Matias dominated, and after the 11th round McGirt could be heard telling Dadashev “I’m going to stop it, Max,” even as Dadashev shook his head.

McGirt, himself a former two-weight world champion, then told the referee: “That’s it.”

Crime / Getting 'shorty' How The Drug Lord  'el Chapo' Was Nailed(photo) by Fruittie: 1:03pm On Jul 19, 2019
The man appeared to show just a few signs of life when he was brought in to the Mexican mountain hideout. He had been brought there from a nearby airstrip after being flown in by light aircraft.

He was bound, blindfolded and so badly burned by an iron that the fabric of his shirt stuck to the skin on his back.

The rest of his body was peppered with red, seeping burn marks, seared into his skin with a car lighter.

A short man with a full head of dark hair and a neatly trimmed moustache barked questions at him, but there was little response.

Within seconds, the short man’s fury raged: he was spitting expletives at the victim before him, before angrily gesturing towards a chicken coop where he ordered his men to dump the man in the sweltering heat.

Within days, the victim was dead; shot, thrown into a grave and then buried while still alive and gasping for breath.

Throughout his three-month trial, notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was portrayed as a man who didn’t hesitate to use ruthless violence to protect his business.

Crime / Cultism Spreading To Primary, Secondary Schools, Reps Raise Alarm by Fruittie: 10:06am On Jul 18, 2019
Cultism spreading to primary, secondary schools, Reps raise alarm

The House of Representatives has raised alarm on the high incidences of cultism in public universities, saying the scourge was fast spreading to primary and secondary schools in the country. It, therefore, called on the federal and state governments to set up anti-cultism vanguard to combat the menace. The call followed the consideration and adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Nwajuba Chukwuemeka from Imo State.

Moving the motion, Nwajiuba said if no action was taken to tackle the unhealthy development, it might have devastating effects on families. He said: “Though cultism started in 1962 and restricted to tertiary institutions, it has now spread to primary and secondary schools. “Cultism has spread to our primary and secondary schools, with pupils less than 16 years joining cult groups. “If care is not taken, its effect on families, community, religion and the country at large will be devastating. “The original intent has been long defeated, the deaths of youths are becoming alarming, as issues that could have been resolved amicably snowball into mayhem. “Cultism was a strict university thing, but today many homes have been penetrated by cultism.

Even in our primary and secondary schools at present, there are pupils inducted to unleash mayhem.” Contributing to the motion, Nicholas Ossai (PDP, Delta), said the effect of cultism on education standard was becoming real as the elite has started withdrawing their wards from public institutions to private ones. Also read: Unemployment: Reps to investigate recruitment process in MDAs He said that the National Orientation Agency, NOA, should be empowered to deepen its advocacy functions. “Cultism reduces the standard of education because the rich allow their kids to go to a private university.” “The solution is in the Student Union Act, which I sponsored in the 8th Assembly.

The second issue is that information should circulate that if you are caught, you will not get admission again. ‘’We need to empower the NOA for advocacy, even politicians encourage cultism, as they use cultists for the election campaign,” he said. On his own, the Minority leader of the House, Ndudi Elumelu, asked parents to take responsibility for their children, faulting the drift from tradition institutions. The motion, when subjected to a voice vote, received overwhelming support from lawmakers.
