I just got my visa approved about 30 minutes ago . Thanks to everyone who took their time to post on this thread , it helped prepare me for the likely questions.
However, I made sure to not read people’s answers because I wanted my own responses to be unique .

Thank you so much once again.
It was my first time
No travel history
No funding
Only applied to one school

Congratulations to you Deegayes

Dont mind that guy. I thought Nigerian government said America should mind their business when it comes to human right. Trump is sending the same message to the Nigerian government. However, the restrictions will be on the Nigerian Government Officials just like that of Venezuela.

And dose applying for the business or visiting visas.

Not just Abuja.... Lagos is not smiling too, I witnessed 4 f1 students denials mine was d 5th in d 3rd of January. Twas all abt couples, expedites nd partially business Visa approvals. All is well nonetheless.

No, it’s to be paid in cash... u need to go along with d N40,700 cash to d consulate or embassy.

Hello,

The reciprocity fee can you pay with your debit card?
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Funmi27: 2:04pm On Dec 30, 2019
You can’t make the payment here in Nigeria sis, kindly contact walspring or a trusted person u know in d US nd ensure d payment is made today or tomorrow unfailingly (jan1st is a public holiday) nd I won’t even advise you to pay on d second because I suffered d fate of been unable to make payment here in Nigeria nd late payment which resulted to my visa been delayed. I hop you get someone to assist you with it soon.

Where is you interview (lagos or abuja)?

He's been denied that's y he can't get earlier dates...when is your interview?
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Funmi27: 4:18pm On Dec 26, 2019
Is d first visa delay/denial the reason why he is seeing only February dates on d reschedule calendar? As at dis morning dere are earlier dates for January on my calendar but he is not seeing it on his calendar, does dis mean d reschedule option can only be btwn d month of his interview appointment?

omoobaadeNGR:

It's because you've been previously denied. All you can hope for is that an earlier date comes up soon. Else, you'll need deferral to another term. Most schools will give you only a maximum of 2 weeks extension which you still won't meet up in your case.

Congratulations sissy/bro!! power of faith nd prayer

sholaball:
Hello guys, my visa was approved today Dec 19th, 2019 at US Embassy.

School: Western Kentucky University
Graduate Assistantship: $26k
Balance: $3297

Before I delve into questions I was asked. I will like to say every single I was asked where questions I had written down prior and my interview went exactly the way I prayed (I prayed against being asked SOA and I wasn't asked

My interview questions in no particular order

V.O: How are doing
Me: I'm doing great thank you.

V.O: passport and I20 pls
Me: passed it. (At this point I wasn't having cold feet and pretty much calm. Btw he had denied two guys before me

VO: why are you goin to the US
Me: To pursue a masters degree in Chemistry @ Western Kentucky University (WKU)

VO: why WKU
Me: because WKU offers interdisciplinary specialty such as computational chem, materials chem, nanochemistry, Env Chem, Hybrid inorganic-organic polymer. (VO cuts me and said but all school offers dat) Then i said not all schools do; must schools.offer courses in the traditional fields of chemistry namely organic, inorganic, physical and analytic process. * Btw I failed to tell him WKU has an advanced materials institute dat specializes in the analysis and characterization of materials for research purposes* However he was pleased wit my response. I must also mention that when he cut me I didn't fidget rather I used it to drive home my point, I was assertive in a way dat showed I know what I was talking about.

VO: How many schools did u apply? ( Didn't ask me to name them)
Me: 4

VO: do you knw any about Kentucky?
Me: Yes I do. "WKU is in Bowling Green which is the third largest city after Louisville & Lexington. The Gov is Andrew Beshear. Motto of the state is United we stand divided we fall. ( Kentucky is bounded by Ohio River in the North and Appalachian mountains in the East - didn't remember to say dis as he was satisfied wit the aforementioned)

VO checks my i20 and said "oh you were offered GT Assitanship, so whose gonna support you
Me: My dad
VO: what does he do
Me: He is a business man. He owns an oil. & Gas coy and dey are into sales and distribution of Diesel.
He didn't ask me to show my bank statement. The only documents are asked for were my passport and I20.

VO: what are you goin to be doing after graduation
Me: I'll come back to 9ja take a new position as a researcher in our lab.
VO: what does your company do?
Me: we into Engineering and Laboratory research.

VO: I will be issuing your visa @ dis tym
Me: at dis point I couldn't believe my eyes. Beginning of 2019, I didn't know when I was gonna write GRE but I would write. Collected the white paper - I momentarily felt like a star .
Got to the queue to pay the reciprocity fee excused myself to d bathroom and I jst started praising God.

My advice : prepare well. Speak confidently if possible slow in order to pick ur words right and audibly. Above all prayer every single I prayed about turned out.

This is how my interview went y'all.

Till we all make it, we are all a work in progress. Remember a pregnant woman doesn't envy a nursing mother.
Thanks and bye

Congratulations!!

Sunmboo:
Visa approved
Interview date: Dec 17, 2019
Location: US consulate office, Lagos.
University applied: North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro
Course: MSc Natural Resources/Conservation with $24,000 Research Assistantship. Bal ($7000)
Travel history: UK, US (twice), Australia, France, Ghana, Benin

Had the interview at window 8 (can’t really remember the number, but I am sure it was the last window). Everyone before me was denied including a couple who had been to US not less than 3 times. The consulate officer on window 4 was just denying people except extremely old people.

The interview went thus;
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning

VO: Pass me your i20 and passport
Me: passed the i20 and passport

VO: Scan your right four fingers (excluding the thumb)

Me: I did just that

VO then typed in my document id on his system and began to make funny sounds with his mouth for like 10secs………. then, he faced me and asked

VO: why did you want to go to the US?
Me: I would like to go to the US for my post graduate program in Natural Resources/Conservation in the department of Agriculture and Environmental System at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (NCAT) State University, Greensboro.

VO then concentrated on tying speedily on his system for many seconds. I was just thinking, what is going on here? Then he faced me again and continued

VO: why did you choose this course?
Me: I chose this course because the first postgrad program I had wasn’t thorough enough (I had already studied masters in the UK). The research methodology was qualitative, and I wanted something quantitative. And I’ve had several discussions with Dr ******** who is the head of the graduate studies in the department at NCAT. He has assured me of getting what I want. More so, I have gone through the curriculum of the course and I could see that they are wider enough in scope to deliver what I want.

VO nodding his head as I was speaking.

Believe me, in my mind, I was already thinking that all I’ve said doesn’t really answer the question. I was just tensed with the fact that the fate of all my stress on getting the admission and securing the fund would be determined in few minutes.

VO: what will you be doing after this program?
Me: I just said PhD. Then I continued by saying, I am currently in contact with **** university and ******* research organisation in New Zealand to take up a project in Nigeria towards the award of my PhD.

VO was just nodding

VO: Who will be sponsoring you?
Me: I just answered my uncle, then paused for like 5 secs because I never wanted that question as it raises concerns from what I’ve observed in visa interview trends. After pausing for a while, I continued by saying he owns an integrated farm after he retired as a bank manager some years back. (This was not how I planned to give my response)

VO: But you have an assistantship
Me: (I had already forgotten to mention this. I thought in my mind that it’s been discussed). So, I quickly said yes, I have a full graduate research assistantship.

Then VO started typing profusely till he said today, we are going to issue your visa. At that point, I wasn’t even interested in anything he was saying after as I was too glad that I just wanted to leave to call my loved ones.

I have really learnt a lot on this group and that is the reason I am providing this transcript as it would help others in one or two ways.

Hello Wilston,

Please have you recently heard an update abt d dates in lagos for reschedule? Been checking as usual but December is still not available.

Wilston:
Apply as soon as possible because dates are limited also still choose abuja to give yourself a better chance of getting a date and possibly a visa ..all the best.
As soon as you pay your visa fee , quickly book a date on the cgifederal site and then you can later fill the ds160 and update the new ds160 in your profile. Dates are limited now.

Congratulations sissy, it can only be God nd I believe that my testimony will be shared on this platform before d end of this year too.

Tamison:
My story is one of mercy and grace!!!! Everything happened so fast! I can't but thank God for His faithfulness thus far.

Received i20: Wednesday, Nov 27. Paid for SEVIS the same day.
Booked interview on Friday, Nov.29 and got January 8. I applied for expedition immediately and attached a copy of my i20 and confirmation of my SEVIS fee payment.
I got a reply on Monday, 2nd of Dec that my application had been approved..I immediately logged in and saw Dec 6 (1 slot) which I picked.

So here's my transcript!
V.O: pass me your passport
T: Passed
V.o : why are you going to the US
T: I am going to the US for my doctoral degree at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro.
V.o: Relax. Forget you're talking to me and talk like you're talking to your friend. I guess I was tensed cos he denied the two people in front of me.
T: I repeated what I said, but was calmer
V.o: Why NCAT?
T: I am going to Ncat cos of the quality/level of research done there..asides that, I am interested in the research done by Dr Lauren Davis who is currently working on the management of profit and non-profit supply chains in dynamic environments, which happens to be my research interest... I also got a tuition assistantship
V.o: what do you do?
T: I work as a Project Engineer at Bleep, we do piping and mechanical installations for FMCG companies like NBC, Nigerian Breweries, etc.
V.O: what's the duration of the program?
T: As seen on my i20, I would be completing it in Dec, 2023.
V.O: 3 for a PhD?
T: Yes, I already have my master's degree.
V.O: How many schools did you apply to?
T: 4
V.O. : Name them
T: I listed them
V.O: How many admits?
T: 2, Clarkson and Ncat. I'm on waiting list for Stevens Institute and got a reject mail from Auburn University, Alabama
V.o: what would this degree do for you?
T: Its always been my dream to be a professor in the field of Industrial Engineering and so I intend to use this degree to secure a lecturing job at the university of Ibadan, my Alma Mata. Priority is given to past students with international exposure who are interested in lecturing.
V.O: ok, I believe you.
T: Smiles
V.o: Who would be paying the balance?
T: My parents...my mom is a caterer and my dad is an Engineer. I passed their statements..also included 2 fixed deposit certificates for my dad. He just looked through my mom's statement and passed it.
V.O: So are you planning to get like a TA or RA on campus?
T: Yes Sir. I've been in talks with Dr Davis who has assured me of getting a TA upon resumption on campus.
V.O : so your mom, does she like have a restaurant or what?
T: No, she does outdoor catering as well as supplies mid-day meals at schools in xxxx as well as corporate organisations like xxxxx bank etc
V.O: Do you have your reciprocity fee here.
T: Yes, I do
V.o : Are you married?
T: No
V.o: Any kids?
T: No
V.o: ok..I'd be approving your visa. Make sure you keep this i20 well, it's very important. And do well in your studies.
Enjoy your stay in the US..
T: Thank you very much.

P.S: Asides the statements I showed him, he didn't ask for my SEVIS payment confirmation or test scores although I had all of them with me. I am grateful for this platform cos majority of what I know now, I got it from this page( Imagine, someone in front of me didn't know about reciprocity fee, another person said nothing had changed from his last application- he had earlier been denied in Abuja). I also read transcripts from page 1 as well as part 14 of this group.
Thank you all for the congratulatory messages, I'm indeed very grateful.

Thanks for d kind words.... please has anyone been lucky enough to get a date in December? I have been consistent with checking but d date keeps fluctuating btwn d days in January.

solihp:
To everyone who has been denied and has some sort of funding with not so much deficit, if you have been denied once, you can try to reapply.

And to everyone who has been trying to reapply but haven't seen a good date, just keep checking, there would be a day the embassy would open dates, some might even be days away, and the fastest people who picks it would be the lucky ones, they do that everytime, so keep checking, day and night. Don't visit too frequent though, so the system doesn't ban you for 3days. You can visit the date page 5 times a day, you might want to space out the 5 times all through the day.

Spring 2020, yes you can

All the best.

Please, I’d like ask is it mandatory to be around from the beginning of the school’s orientation for new students? My school’s orientation starts on d 6th of January nd ends on the 10th of January, while our resumption date is on the 13th of January (duh i am still on d look out for an early date in December) but I’ll need you people’s opinion about whether to go for d interview on d 3rd (if dere is no early date).
dhrogbar9:

Kindly reschedule your appointment at midnight to get an earlier dates. If not, I'm scared to inform you that the Jan 2 is not that feasible for the resumption date. Good luck.

Hello House,

Please i would like to make this enquiry. I was denied the F-1 student visa in the 20th of Nov nd my program is stated to commence dis Spring so I reapplied for another appointment but the date i chose due to available dates is d 3rd of January of which my program commences on the 13th of January while the students orientation starts on d 6th of January.

My main question is, is it safe to stick to the appointment date of 3rd , January knowing dat my school’s orientation program starts on the 6th of January nd ts compulsory for international students or i shld cancel d appointment nd wait reapply for fall 2020?

Your feedbacks will be appreciated!
