Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by funmikay: 8:39am On Mar 21, 2023
Good morning all. Thank to everyone keeping this thread alive with relevant information.
Please i need advice on the way forward.
I got admission into University of Houston Victoria November 2022 to resume January 6th 2023.
With all the issues of getting appointment dates, i could not make it in time.
I spoke with the school about the issue and requested to defer my admission to fall 2023 and i was told that an updated I-20 would be sent in February 2023.

I have been calling and emailing them to send the updated I-20 so that i don't miss out on the dates as they are available now, Till this morning no word.

My questions:
1. is it possible to complete my visa application without an I-20?
2.if No, can i complete visa application and make SEVIS payment with the previous I-20 issued in November?

You can - but it complicates matters.

First the Consular Officer may well decide that you are not a bona fide student, that you have waited because you are hedging your bets. What if you are denied? The note from a refusals will say "SEVIS not paid" - so if you want to try again you'll want to pay before hand so you won't get the same refusal note. So now you have spent $160 for a second interview that might have been avoided.

If they do want to approve you they will refuse you 221(g) and then give you instructions on sending your passport in with the SEVIS receipt. So now, besides the delay, you are asking the officer to look at their decision again. Where they on the fence? Now you asking them to take. second look at your application and you are not even there to answer a question. Is that what you want?

I am lost. i thought the Sevis fee was paid after visa application/ before interview date?

Thank yo for responding @anonymousmum,@chibertha and @chanbaby

It was a vaginal delivery.I didn't request for a Paediatrician at the birth. No extra tests were done that I am aware of.The LO was with me on the room for the 2 days.

The breakdown they sent:

nursery- 3,430
Lab-828
Pharmacy-535
Special nursing services-171

Chanbaby:

What was the bill breakdown they gave u. So we can know how to tackle it.

Hello,
Silent reader of the forum here. And you have been of great help for me in this journey .
Looking to get back home to give a detailed synopsis of this experience.HOWEVER,Please I need the urgent assistance of anyone who recently had a baby at HNWMC.
The paediatrician bill I just received is $3,800!

The breakdown sheet I was given at registration was not even up to$1000,but I still budgeted $1000. I also declined the hearing test.

Please can someone help me to explain or direct me to who to talk to about reducing the estimate.

Please help!I am due to leave this country by Sunday

Yes you have.thank you very much.

1. Buy your ticket ahead of time make sure it is at least 5hrs after landing at JFK to give room for immigration. From my experience it is usually tacky buying at the airport if you don't have a card that can be charged.
The shortest route from JFK to Houston is usually Charllot ie JFK-Charlot-Houston with a 2 hours wait time at Charlot

2. Book one way incase you have to change your international leg so you don't have to start changing that leg too to save money

3 it is not compulsory to get both but ensure you get the usa passport from their first then use either an emergency travel certificate or Nigerian visa to get your LO home. Then when you get to Nigeria you go get Nigerian passport

4 for the car seat buy it in the states it's cheaper and go with it on the day of delivery.

I hope I have been able to help out

Good morning mama's, FTM here. Please I'm trying to understand a few things.kindly assist .
1.When traveling and say JFK is my POE but final destination is Houston, can I get a flight at the airport or do I have to book ahead of time?
2.Which route would you advise to book at that point(one way or round trip)?
3.I noticed mama's processing both the US and naija passport for the LOs.Is it compulsory to process the naija passport and why?
4.As regards the LOs carseat,do i buy it from Lagos or in the US.Because I could tell from the forum that some hospitals require you to provide one before leaving the hospital.

Thanks so much.
