One person has been killed by operatives of the Delta State Police Command over alleged kidnapping in Ughelli, Warri axis of the state.

Also, three other suspects with severe gunshot injuries were arrested.

The development was conveyed on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, via his official Twitter page.

According to the police, one AK47 rifle, 18 eighteen rounds of 7.6MM ammunition, one double barrel locally made gun and one suspected stolen GLK Benz were recovered from the suspects.

A building apartment inside the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi was late Friday gutted by fire.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that the incident, which was said to occurred around 11:30 pm did not spread to other sections of the palace as the fire was curtailed within the building and was successfully extinguished.

The fire according to reports started after the electricity supply was restored to the palace.

Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare while confirming the incident, disclosed that the fire was triggered by a power surge which exploded through electrical appliances.

Olafare said the fire incident affected only a building within the courtyard and was quickly put out by combined efforts of the State Fire Service Department and that of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile.

He said, “A building apartment within the courtyard of the Palace Of The Ooni Of Ife was at about 11:30 pm yesterday (Friday) engulfed in flames of fire incident triggered by a power surge which exploded through electrical appliances in the affected apartment.

“The inferno did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the palace premises as it was swiftly put off through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service and Palace Emergency Control Unit.

Some angry hoodlums have set a Bus Rapid Transit vehicle on fire after killing a commercial bus driver when they collided.

Operatives of the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi-Lagos, have arrested a 21-year-old indigene of Anambra State Atuonah Cynthia Chioma, for allegedly fraudulently converting, stealing and obtaining the sum of Two-Hundred and Twenty Thousand Dollars ($220,000USD) by False Pretence from a German citizen.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that the suspect, Chioma, a 2019 graduate of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka; who claimed to be a Model and Proprietress of a Massage Spa known as The-Chi-Place, lured the 50-year old victim on Instagram by feigning romantic intentions towards him, thereby gaining the victims’ trust and goodwill.

Atuonah Chioma promised to marry the victim, invited him to Nigeria for visits on several occasions and convinced him to relocate permanently to Nigeria to live together as husband and wife. In a ploy to dispel suspicion, the victim was made to meet with Atuonah Chiomas’ parents at Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State where he received their blessings to marry their daughter.

The victim was persuaded by the suspect (Miss Atuonah Cynthia) to return to Germany to sell his house in Stuttgart, and forward the proceeds of the sale, together with his pension and life savings to her domiciliary account in Fidelity Bank plc; to purchase a house in Nigeria where they will both live as husband and wife as well as to establish a joint business outfit as indicated in the bank transfer narration.

Confirming the arrest, SP Eyitayo Johnson Police Public Relations Officer, Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi-Lagos said that during interrogation, the suspect admitted in her statement that the sum of Two Hundred and Twenty Thousand Dollars ($220,000USD) was transferred to her account by the victim. Part of the proceed was used then used to buy a 2-Bedroom Terrace apartment at Zara Estate, Ikota Villa, Lekki Phase II, while some of the funds were sent to support her mother’s business and to pay the medical bills of her father.”

“Efforts are ongoing to recover other proceeds of the crime while the Unit remains committed to diligently investigate and prosecute fraudsters who are out there damaging the image of the country.

No fewer than 107 Nigerians stranded in Libya were evacuated by the Federal Government on Tuesday as part of efforts to ensure no Nigerian is left behind in the North African country.

This was disclosed by Amb. Kabiru Musa, Charge D’affaires en titre of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, who stated that the evacuees would arrive at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday.

Musa noted that the rescue operation was carried out by the Federal Government, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

He also disclosed that 700 stranded Nigerians have been evacuated from Libya in 2023 only.

Musa stated, “107 stranded Nigerians departed Misrata International Airport aboard chartered flight No.UZ189 at 13:15 local time and are expected to arrive [at] the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, same Tuesday evening.

“Among the evacuees are 49 males, 48 females, eight children and two infants.

“Nigeria, with the support of the IOM, will continue to intensify efforts to rescue, protect and ensure the safe return of all stranded migrants in Libya.”

Meanwhile, the Amotekun Corps in Osun said it had secured the release of a man kidnapped from a Fulani settlement at Ago-Igbira, Ila-Orangun area of the state.

The Amotekun Commander in the state, Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Adewinmbi said the victim, Muhammed Jubril, was released when the local security outfit closed in on the abductors.

According to him, the abductors bolted and left behind the victim around 8pm on Monday when they sighted some operatives of Amotekun.

“The victim was held hostage in the forest between Agbamu and Arandun villages, a forest in the boundary between Osun and Kwara states.

“Amotekun was combing the forest based on intelligence report, and as our operatives were closing in on the suspects, they ran away, leaving their victim behind,” he said

Adewinmbi said the victim had been reunited with his family without paying ransom, and added that investigation was continuing to arrest the kidnappers.

He said the Seriki Fulani of Ago-Igbira commended and appreciated the efforts of the Amotekun operatives for the release of their son.

Muhammad was reportedly abducted from the Fulani settlement on Wednesday, April 12, where one Hassan Jubril was also killed.

A man, Kehinde Gabriel, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 3-year-old girl in Lagos State.

The sentence was handed over to the convict by the Lagos Sexual Offences & Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja.

According to Justice Ramon A. Oshodi, the prosecution established the essential ingredients of the offence.

Gabriel was found guilty of the one-count charge of defilement.

The judge slammed the convict that he is a person of no truth who has no remorse for what he did.

The judge said the act, which violated Section 137 of the Criminal Law 2015, was unjustifiable and handed Gabriel the maximum punishment.

Justice Oshodi also ordered that the name of the convict be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by the Lagos State Government.

Reacting to the judgement, the Domestic & Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, reiterated the states’s zero tolerance for similar offences.

“There is help for survivors even as we remain committed to ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions,” it said on Tuesday.

The agency charged citizens to continuously break the culture of silence and report any case of domestic or sexual violence via its toll-free line.

No fewer than eight female students of Government Secondary School, Awon, Kaduna State, have escaped from the terrorists’ den, the state government confirmed.

The female students were kidnapped on Monday, April 3, 2023, by the terrorists in the Awon General Area of Kachia Local Government Area of the state.

The development was by the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement made available to journalists.

The students escaped from a thick forest around Kaduna-Niger, the commissioner disclosed.

He said the students walked in the forest for days before surfacing at an undisclosed location, as security operatives were immediately contacted for evacuation.

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was said to have immediately direct the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to liaise with the 1 Division Nigerian Army in order to urgently evacuate the survivors to Kaduna Metropolis.

It was learnt that the terrorists were combing forests in the area to recapture the students.

The commissioner confirmed that the students are currently receiving treatment at a military facility where they were safely evacuated to.

The governor, according to Aruwan, praised the students for demonstrating sheer courage and resilience in making their escape from captivity.

Aruwan said the Governor admonished them to view the horrific experience as a turning point, and pursue their education with renewed vigour for a purposeful future, just as he commended the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Major General OT Akinjobi for the prompt evacuation and the ongoing medicals being conducted on the students.

President Muhammadu Buharu has been ordered to pay the sum of N5 million to Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, the sacked non-executive Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

The order was issued by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, who also directed that Ararume should be restored as the Chairman.

Recall that Ararume was removed by Buhari on January 17, 2023.

Following his removal, the former NNPCL chairman sued President Buhari, asking the court to void his removal, which he described as unlawful, unconstitutional and a total breach of CAMA law under which the NNPCL was incorporated.

The embattled NNPCL boss also prayed the court to give an order for the sum of N100 billion to be paid to him as compensation for the damages he suffered nationally and internationally.

In his judgement on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo voided Ararume’s sacking and awarded N5bn as damages against Buhari and the NNPCL, to be paid for the disruption of Ararume’s appointment on the grounds that the action of the President was arbitrary, unlawful and illegal.

The justice ordered that Ararume be immediately restored to office as the non-executive chairman of the NNPCL.

The judge also declared as null and void all decisions of the Board of Directors of the NNPCL carried out in the absence of Ararume.

Justice Ekwo held that Buhari acted ultra vires, wrongful, illegal, null and void in the ways and manners Ararume was sacked after using his name to register the NNPCL and that such an act could not stand in the face of the law.

There may be more trouble for the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Adamawa State, Hudu Ari, in the controversial gubernatorial election that held in the state last Saturday as the Independent National Electoral Commission vows to write the Inspector General of Police, Baba Ahmed, to investigate and prosecute him.

Also, the electoral body decided that it will write the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, to brief President Muhammadu Buhari about Ari’s action.

The decision was taken on Tuesday at the technical meeting attended by national commissioners of INEC in Abuja.

The REC, who was suspended in a letter dated April 17, 2023 and signed by the commission’s secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, is facing huge bribery allegation for controversially declaring Aishatu Dahiru Binani, the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner of Adamawa state governorship election while results collation process was not completed.

Results were being expected from 10 of the 20 Local Government Areas where the election held when the REC made the announcement.

The returning officer, Professor Mohammed Mele, had earlier adjourned the collation till 11am but the REC made his way to the hall to make the pronouncement and departed immediately.

The returning officer was nowhere in sight when the REC made the announcement which triggered confusion.

His action disrupted the electioneering process and caused chaos within the state.

Earlier, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent at the INEC collation centre in Adamawa State, Idi Hong, called for the arrest of Ari.

Hong made this disclosure on Sunday after the REC, saying, “The REC must be arrested over this needless controversy. He lacks the power to do this.”

On her part, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the wife of the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, blasted the electoral body over the handling of elections in the country.

According to Betty, the Chairman of the country’s electoral umpire, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and his team should be sacked over what she described as the embarrassment the commission had caused Nigeria.

In a terse post she made on her Facebook page, the governor’s wife disclosed that INEC had been a “colossal failure” to the country.

Betty, who clarified that she was not speaking in her capacity as a FIrstlady said, “OMG! INEC (Eye-Neck) is a COLOSSAL FAILURE!

“You can take this expression to the bank. It is about time that INEC was disbanded and Prof. Mahmood and his co-travelers kicked out! They have embarrassed this country enough.

A 33 years old woman Olaide Adekunle is currently been investigated by men of Ogun State Police Command for selling her 18-month-old baby at the rate of #600,000 to yet to be identified buyer.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Sango Divisional Headquarters by the woman’s husband, Nureni Rasaq, who reported that his wife, Olaide Adekunle, left home for Lagos on the 15th of March 2023 with their baby girl by name Moridiat Rasaq, but returned home without the baby.

He stated further that all efforts to know what happened to the baby proved abortive as the woman was unable to give any reasonable account of the whereabouts of the said baby.

Upon the report, the DPO Sango division, CSP Dahiru Saleh, detailed his detectives to go after the said woman, and she was promptly arrested.

On interrogation, the suspect confessed that she has sold the baby to someone in Lagos at the rate of six hundred thousand naira (#600,000).

When asked the reason for her action, she stated that she borrowed money from a microfinance bank, and when she was unable to pay back the money, the bank agents started dragging her and threatening to deal decisively with her.

Confirming the arrest, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command said it was consequent upon this that she ran to Lagos and started hawking sachet water.
It was while hawking that she met a man who introduced her to the woman that eventually bought the child in Lagos.

Meanwhile, the acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Babakura Muhammed, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible recovery of the baby.

The Ogun State Police Command has dragged two persons, Alice Tojare, 26, and Adebisi Seyi, 30 before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in the state for allegedly defrauding a businessman of N508,000 through fake transfer.

The duo appeared before Mrs A . O. Adeyemi on Monday for sending a fake transfer to the businessman, Ezike Samuel, after buying goods worth N508,000 from the complainant.

The Police charged the defendants, whose addresses were not provided, with conspiracy and fraud.

According to the Police prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, the offences were committed on March 8 at about 10, 00 a.m. at Iju area, Ota.

The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Adeyemi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety in like sum.

Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

She adjourned the court until June 22 for further hearing.

In another news, the Ward 9 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Vincent Okokoje has slumped and died.

He reportedly died on Thursday morning.

APC Ward 12 Chairman, Comrade Gabriel Omorere confirmed the report to journalists.

He said, “we attended a meeting together at the residence of an APC leader in Warri South, Chief Ojogri on Wednesday, along Warri/Sapele road. We only got the news that he died on Thursday morning.”

Omorere said the death of Okokoje came as a shock to the APC in Warri South and Delta State in general.

He said the late Okokoje was a gentleman who loved making peace among his colleagues.

According to Omorere, “He was amongst the three Ward Chairmen who won their wards in the just concluded election in Warri South Constituency II.”

Omorere, who led a delegation of APC Chairmen in Warri South in a condolence visit to the wife, children and family of Okokoje said he will be greatly missed.

He stressed that his departure had caused a very big vacuum within the APC in Warri South, saying, “I pray we have someone like him to work hard and move the party forward.”

The founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry”, Daniel Oluwafeyiropo, has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre over allegations that he raped two of his church members.

The clergyman was remanded by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

The offense was reportedly committed in June 2020 at Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

The defence counsel, Mr Olukunle Oyewole, while moving his bail application dated April 10, prayed the court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms.

He told the court that his client had been on police administrative bail since May 20, 2023, and had made himself available to the police.

“My lord, the defendant was not informed on the day the matter came up for the first time before this court.

“The defendant is a well-known religious leader and he has shown by his action that he will not jump bail.

“The offence for which he is charged is a bailable offence and he has credible sureties that can stand for him,” he said.

The state leads prosecution counsel, Mr Babjide Boye, in his counter affidavit dated April 14, urged the court to refuse the bail application of the defendant, however, left it at the discretion of the court.

Boye, however, argued that the offence was a serious one and the likelihood of conviction might put the defendant at flight risk.

“There is also a possibility of the defendant interfering with the prosecution witnesses.

“He is a bishop of so many branches and if granted bail, he may use his position to influence the prosecution witnesses as he is regarded as a man of authority who has the possibility of committing the same crime.

“We urge the court to deny the defendant bail because he has failed to provide the court exceptional circumstances to grant him bail,” the prosecutor submitted.

Oluwafeyiropo was earlier arraigned on a two-count bordering on rape.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offence contravened Sections 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Justice Ramon Oshodi admitted the defendant to N20 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

The judge ruled that one of the sureties presented by the defendant must own a build-up property in Lagos State worth the bail sum.

Justice Oshodi said, “The original document of the landed property must be submitted to the chief registrar of Lagos State.

“The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State.”

Furthermore, he directed an accelerated hearing of the case and ordered the accused to deposit his international passport with the chief registrar of the court.

Oshodi adjourned the case until May 9 for trial.

Aboyarin is facing three counts preferred against him by the police.

According to the police prosecutor, Felicia Okwori, the act was perpetrated on or before March 29, 2023.

Furthermore, she told the court that the defendant illegally possessed a knife, one English pistol with one round of live ammunition and one locally-made single-barrel pistol without lawful authority and formed and managed an unlawful society, Eiye Confraternity in the Okito area of Ajegunle Apapa, Lagos state.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 411, 298(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Magistrate H. B Mogaji did not take the plea of the defendant.

The charge read, “That you, Solomon Aboyarin, and others still at large on or before March 29, 2023, at the Okito area of Ajegunle Apapa, Lagos State in the Lagos State Magisterial District did arm yourself with a knife and another weapon, did knowingly and intentionally form, organise or combine and agree to form an unlawful society or cult, manage and assist in the management of an unlawful society or cult named Eiye Confraternity knowing same to be unlawful and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 2(3)(a)(b)(d)(e) of the Lagos State Laws on Unlawful Society and Cultism 2021.

“That you, Solomon Aboyarin, and others still at large on March 29, 2023, at the Okito area of Ajegunle Apapa, Lagos State in the Lagos State Magisterial District did unlawfully have in your possession in a public place one English pistol with one round of live ammunition and one locally-made cut-to-size single barrel pistol without lawful authority and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 216 and punishable under Section 298(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

There was tension on the Abeokuta-Sagamu route around Okemosan, Abeokuta, the state capital, as a hit-and-run driver killed a commercial motorcyclist, otherwise known as Okada rider, and his two passengers.

It was gathered that the accident occurred around 5 am on Saturday.

Disclosing this, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said its night rescue team carried out a rescue operation.

The FRSC spokesman in Ogun, Florence Okpe, narrated how its operatives attempted to save the lives of the victims.

“The rescue team quickly responded, and getting to the scene of the crash, three victims, the motorcycle rider and the two pillion (passengers) were lying down lifeless, hit by an unknown vehicle,” she said.

The team, Okpe said, quickly conveyed the victims to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, “but unfortunately they died.”

She added that “the families were contacted immediately and the bodies were handed over to them.”

Reacting, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun, Ahmed Umar has condemned the incident that he stated was avoidable.

Umar said if the driver had rescued the victims and taken them to the hospital for medical attention, their lives would have been saved.

He advised motorists to always consider other road users and drive within the speed that can be controlled.

The Divisional Police Officer of Okokomaiko, Lagos State, SP Emmanuel Edebagha, has been removed by the state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, for the lack of supervision of his men.

The summary indicates that a total of 185 major electoral offences were reported during the presidential and National Assembly elections with 203 arrests made and 18 firearms recovered. Similarly, a total of 304 electoral offences were recorded during the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, with a total number of 578 arrests recorded and 48 firearms recovered. This included 161 suspects in Kano State.

“It is on the foregoing that all police commands have been directed by IGP to collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in ensuring that all these electoral offenders are expeditiously and transparently prosecuted not only in the interest of criminal justice delivery but in furtherance of the vision of the NPF to sanitize the country’s democratic space.

“The State Police of this Command is by this development committed to the implementation of this system of vigorous prosecution and punishment of all electoral offenders arrested and investigated during the last elections. During this upcoming supplementary election that is going to hold in some parts of the State, not only foot soldiers would be arrested and punished, but all those who sponsor thugs.
