This is incredible! Truly a breach of trust. If you do the crime, be ready to do the time. I see the usefulness of the TSA here.

Politics / Re: President Buhari Receives Details Of 2016 Budget by Gavel(m): 4:04pm On Apr 07, 2016
Hopefully things will take shape soon. If Mr. President sees the need not to sign it, the National Assembly can start afresh from first reading to third reading or veto the President's assent by three quarter majority. Lets hope it won't get to that.
I see good times ahead.

I don;t know her personally but have been following this story up. As you know, this incident is no longer fresh? A life was involved accepted; but she has pleaded for clemency. Good a thing she has smelt the rod in Kirirkiri prison for a period but I'm just happy she has regained her freedom.
I'm sure she must have learnt her lessons.?
Well, yes she has pleaded for clemency, but a plea for clemency (allocutus in law) can only weigh the mind of the court to reduce the punishment for the offence. In any case, if she meets her bail conditions she is free to attend court from her home until judgment. But if the Supreme Court finds her appeal as lacking in merit, she will do the time.

Hen!hen!hen! So because she has Money abi? Come to think of the fact that, there are loads of people with similar offense, but because they aren't ibinabo, they're meant to complete their sentence and even serve more!!! The common law practice here in Nigeria has been skewed with corruption and material benefits #Justiceisfortherichindeed!!
Don't get it twisted bro. It's just bail pending appeal.

Hmm..Guess she finally had pipo who cud pulled alot of strings for her...Glad she is free though

Sir, I do not believe any string was pulled. The appeal is ongoing, and as such she has not been let off the hook. The bail pending appeal is only a temporary reprieve. She can only be exculpated or exonerated when the Supreme Court (the court of final arbiter) to which she has appealed upturns her conviction by the Court of Appeal.

Cos there are many pple I wanna kill o.

Haha. Bros, a convict who is appealing a conviction has the right to apply to the trial court of an appellate court for bail pending appeal. The condition precedent for the grant of such bail is special or exceptional circumstance. Granting same is at the discretion of the court. A bail bond is a binding force to ensure that the convict attends trial from day to day. No money is paid. The bail sum is not paid until the convict jumps bail and the surety's property is attached and the surety loses that sum.

Health / Re: Today Is World Health Day, Theme: Beat Diabetes by Gavel(m): 3:03pm On Apr 07, 2016
The WHO believes that by 2020 about 70-75% of persons living in subsaharan West Africa (Nigeria happens to be the most populated) would be living with chronic (incurable) diseases of which diabetes mellitus is one. Guys, let's endeavour to eat less carbohydrate in order not to overwork our pancreas and get down with this deadly ailment. Our body needs just 5% carbohydrate, 15% protein, 30% fruits and vegetables and 50% whole grains and nuts.

May God bless us all.

Journalism in this country has gone to the dogs.
Politics / Re: Journalists Queue For Food In Kogi Government House - Photos by Gavel(m): 11:31pm On Jul 01, 2015
Rubbish report. A close look at the pics will reveal that the journalists did the normal thing; which was queue for food in a buffet. What's degrading about lining up to take food in a buffet. Were they supposed to serve themselves all at the same time?

This attempt to smear the images of the journalists won't fly. What happened is in order. The writer needs to get a life.
Politics / Re: Bloomberg - US Think Tank Calls Buhari "Baba Go Slow" by Gavel(m): 11:25pm On Jul 01, 2015
OP, methinks you either didn't read and comprehend the news or you're being mischievous. This title is absolutely misleading! There was nowhere in that Bloomberg report where the US Think Tank was quoted as having called Mr. President "Baba Go Slow."

I'd rather the MOD take a closer look at the article and heading and do the needful, lest Nairaland loses its credibility.
Politics / Re: Fani-kayode Distances Self From Daughter’s Wedding by Gavel(m): 10:32pm On Jul 01, 2015
Investigative journalism is gradually dying in this country. So this journalist didn't deem it necessary to dig deep to actually find out what the problem was and why FFO is declining to give his approval to his daughter's marriage. What are we now supposed to do with this statement from the man. Why not balance the story?

Thanks for the explanation but do you think EFCC's action is not deliberate?

You're welcome. Only the EFCC can answer that. But I think its pure ineptitude.
Politics / Re: Alleged 19.2bn Fraud: Court Dismisses Charge Against Sylva by Gavel(m): 3:02pm On Jun 10, 2015
Guys, I implore you to read the news article and properly digest it. It says the court dismissed the criminal charge for "abuse of court process." Now, a criminal charge (and indeed any case at all) is said to be an abuse of court process if it is instituted and amounts to an annoying, frivolous or vexatious act. The best paradigm of an abuse of court process is if a charge or case is duplicated before a court of different courts on the same issue and seeking the same reliefs. Where this happens, the court is duty-bound, even suo motu (on its own) to strike out or dismiss the case for amounting to an abuse of court process. I believe the EFCC should be blamed here for bringing multiple charges on the same alleged offences. The EFCC should put its house in order and stop bungling criminal prosecutions.

Mr President never fails to disappoint. So what stopped him from probing his predecessors while he had all the time. I'm just happy change has come to stay. This administration was an avoidable but yet unmitigated disaster.
Just when you think he has hit an all-time low, he goes even lower. With the speed with which he's going down, he will soon discover crude oil.

Politics / Re: Buhari, Probe Jonathan For The Sake Of National Interest! - Theophilus Danjuma by Gavel(m): 10:58pm On May 24, 2015
PassingShot:
The fact is that for any nation to move in the right direction and progress toward real development, each and every government must be held accountable for her actions and inactions. Only when people realize that they will be called to answer for their deeds and misdeeds would they behave reasonably.

I know many people will argue that for Buhari to probe GEJ or any of his ministers, he must first probe IBB, OBJ and many before GEJ. What they are not mindful of is the fact that President Buhari cannot probe all for lack of time and enormity of the tasks at hand but he is morally obliged to look into actions of his immediate predecessors and not all before him.

If he does this, Nigeria will have taken a very giant step in moving towards accountability. When he is done too, let his successor probe his tenure. before we know it, our elected officials will be guided in their deeds knowing full well that there are consequences for their actions while in office.

I totally agree with you.
