and when oil sold above 70 dollars, the dollar instead coming down kept on appreciating against the naira.you people really like to deceive the gullible.

Oil production is now <1million BPD.

This has been so for close to or over a year.

Meaning with the crude oil price increase and the increase in demand for non Russian petroleum products we are still loosing out completely.

The previous administration was completely incompetent.

It's either they're lying about the actual crude oil sales figure or they're unable to manage the oil theft by the oil companies and their cronies.

Unfortunately people don't value what they have until they lose it. ....there was happiness and love during Amachi's first tenor if not for the betrayal from wike and patience Jonathan Rivers State won't be in mess we are today..

One of Nigerians measure problem is maintenance culture.....we spend billions on projects and few years to those projects have turned to scrape.......
If you live in Rivers State and know how Port Harcourt was like before 2007 then you will know if Amachi did something or not
God bless you for your honesty

as a student of rivers state university of science and technology from 2007/8 to 2012/13 I'd forever remain grateful to this man for making himself available to be used by God to bring temporary/manageable sanity to UST

he's the best rivers state has ever had......

I don't know him personally and I can't say he's a saint buttttttt

given my knowledge of cost of projects and total income from the federal government and the IGR rivers state earned from 2007-2015 I'd say he did well as a governor (enlightened rivers people would understand).......

a lot of schools were upgraded, primary healthcare centers, secondary healthcare services, transportation to an extent (monorail was a flop, he could have doubled on the road projects in PHC and environs and he also wasted river's state money on a jet and helicopters), Morden markets, public spaces and parks, housing etc

Jonathan betrayed Amaechi by letting his wife use his presidential influence to fight Amaechi....... Amaechi had no option and had to align himself with the next best option (APC)

ignorant people sometimes feel development is a scheme against them and I believe okirika people thought Amaechi had other motives for the development of the waterfront areas so they brought their sister from Aso rock to help them meanwhile he did this for the good of the okirika people, the security of rivers state and most importantly I believe to also boost his CV as the chief executive of the state....... (wike's matter is another one)

Amaechi didn't share cash like odilli though and he claims he never stole ₦1 (I don't believe that anyway)

unfortunately most Nigerians are gullible and have no Idea what the functions of government are

our political office holders are generally corrupt people and they really thrive because of the ignorance of the people

even with the advent of the internet era where there's unlimited access to all kinds of information a lot of Africans still choose to remain ignorant.....

they assume that transformation time for a nation of 200 million people from abject poverty to utopia should be within one simple democratic 4 year tenure....

it takes a common vision by united people and hardwork over the years to make that happen all things being equal

An example is China........... even with uniformity of purpose guided by brutal communist regimes it took close to 50 years to get to where they are today (they're not a fully developed country like western European countries yet though)

Black African people should set step by step targets on what they want to achieve and know how they want to go and how to get there and leaders should be selected based on whom they believe can ferry them each step of the way

Nigeria isn't the Kuwait, Emirates or Qatar so don't mention oil money here.......................these Arab nations have more oil and fewer citizens (fewer than some local government areas) so there's enough to spendn in building fantasy cities like Dubai and Doha enough to give citizens free cash monthly

let's hope wisdom from falls on black people to help us uplift ourselves from the shackles of poverty

for Mr Amaechi I respect and admire his vision I wish him good in this life and that to come

Career / Re: Ever Lost A Job Doing The Right Thing? My Experience Doing One by Gbelomo: 9:21pm On May 04, 2020
Mike4S:
I graduated some years back, and never wanted to teach in secondary school‎ because of the trends in Nigerian education. I took to the labour market and focused only on primary schools. As the job did not come, I decided to include secondary schools.

One later came my way and it was the later. Having stayed long in the unemployment line, I accepted the offer. I started teaching and it was as I thought before. Having the hindsight, I did not bother. After all before the examination I will have gathered some amount.

My colleagues were particularly vulnerable to the impact of our boss. Whenever they discuss, they always say all kind of things about the pressure from the boss. They saw it as an act of routine expediency that had to be done.

First term passed, second term passed, at this juncture, she called a meeting and we mustered. The major thrust of the meeting was the strategy to engage to pass the children.
She did not call it exam malpractice. She used a euphemistic language. At the end, she asked if we understood. Everybody nodded yes and gave an affirmative answer. This was at the end of the second term.

Soon it was time for the exam and the staff time table was out. It was arranged such that every teacher on duty will be supervising exam on the day his subject was to be taken.

Choosing principle of expediency, I refused to take part in the exam malpractice I was uncomfortable with.

The woman called and persuaded me to engage in the shady deal. I kept mute but inside me I had already made up my mind like the biblical Shedrack, Meshack, and Abednego.

The next day, I was on duty and I insisted on my principle of expediency. She simply gritted her teeth and moved on with it.

Sometimes it is desirable for people to be free of fear of attack or sack as the case may be in order to invoke honest opinion.

The woman endured it because she did not have choice than to continue with me. Guess what! Some parents were ready to go with me!
She endured it until the term ended. I was not surprised when she called me and announced my exit.

Today, I am happy that i'm teaching in primary school where I am not forced to do exam malpractice. I'm even happy to have my pay raised.
may your deeds be accepted and perfection granted to you in this life

someday men like you would populate this earth

I hope you don't change and I hope I join you

Business / Re: Naira Depreciates To ₦410 Per Dollar As Local Currency Weakens by Gbelomo: 1:17pm On Mar 28, 2020
kikero:

1.Buhari did not cause this current recession or the one that happened on his watch in 1983-5

2.The recession that happened under Buhari in 1983-5 started when oil prices fell in 1982...which even prompted Shagari to bring in austerity programmes by 1983.

3.Likewise the recession under this current admin started in April 2014...when oil prices collapsed due to the Saudis trying to outproduce American shale oil producers. By January 2015...NOI was warning that whoever won the election, there would be economic crisis.

4.The truth is, our economy has been vulnerable since independence. The economy depends on revenues from whatever raw materials we sell , whose prices we do not control. In the 1960's it was agricultural produce. By the 1980's, oil was taking over.

5.Where Buhari and others make mistakes is that they spend too much controlling prices on vital sectors like petrol and power. This limits the amount of investment that can be poured into both sectors, leading to job lossess and financial losses...especially from subsides which is money down a bottomless pit.

6.Because of our large population, we need oil at $139 per barrel and above, since 2017, up from $120 per barrel since 2012....to run a balanced budget.(despite our cost of production being below 30 dollars). Since 2010...we haven't had oil prices that high. That's why we are taking debts via borrowing...the money we are earning is not enough and has never been enough for our needs.

Oil is at $25. We need it at $140. We are losing at least $115 now per barrel of oil sold. (More information on my figures here)

Also due to the low oil prices, we are losing an average of $35.76million or N13.1 billion per day in accruable revenue

7. The way froward eventually...remove subsides , allow power and petrol to be run at a profit....which brings in investment and jobs. We did this for the GSM sector. Why can't we do this for power, petrol?? To long term help us transition into a producer economy...which produces goods whose prices we can control.

Modified

To anyone who thinks I am defending the current administration, see my points 5 and 7 and reflect on them. Also look at point number 6 and them make the assumption....we need to change our economic paradigm.

There is nothing to defend about this APC government. It is obvious they have failed. However, my problem with most critics of this administration is that they criticse the effects...they don't think about the cause of the effects. If we can think about the cause of the effects, we may be on the way out of this economic crisis.

The problem is, the solution involves some hard decisions. Removing subsides...and so on. The problem also is, APC, like PDP exisits to share the national cake, not to think about how the cake is baked, or how we assemble the ingredients.

how I wish at least 40% of Nigerians had the ability to understand basic economics and finance like you do. Nigeria has to be productive and be able to generate income from other sources totally independent of petroleum.

for a nation of 200 million+ people we need more than the sales return of our 2.5 million barrels per day of crude oil OPEC quota (even if it's at $200 per barrel) to run our economy

while Nigeria can be considered as potentially rich considering our population and natural resources but we are actually a poor nation in reality for now

our China Exim Bank loan that caused a big rift and is still a pending issue is just a fraction of Italian Corona virus welfare package

we have a long way to go and we are barely moving.

the economy of most advanced democratic nations are driven by the private sector. they fund almost everything and the tax they pay is what the government relies on to run its affairs. the government itself is just a regulator & referee

befor criticizing our Government (obviously full of evil people) we should ask ourselves how have we created wealth as citizens in technology, services, healthcare, etc like the pioneers of the enviable American, French, Japanese and German science, technology, Economics and medicine (people like Faraday, Louis Pasteur, Archibald McIndoe, Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Honda, Toyoda, Ford, Pascal Blaise, Bernoulli, Hideki Yukawa, Euler, Newton, Van Der Waals, Hertz, Marie Curie, James Blundell, Adam Smith , Jean-Baptiste Say , David Ricardo , Thomas Robert Malthus etc) mind you some of these pioneers died poor and indebted because they funded research by borrowing from private individuals and institutions a lot never had the support of the government either in their time.

we just like China don't have to go through that phase of discovery, intensive research and we can just copy and paste

instead we prioritize temporary pleasures and gadgets that go out of fashion in a short while, celebrate wealthy politicians and associates whom we clearly can prove have enriched themselves dishonestly frm our national commonwealth, immortalise material women on TV shows and immoral young men/musicians that only sing and celebrate the use of voodoo to defraud foreigners.

we consume our Forex from crude oil sales that we ought to use in importing machinery & industrial equipments, training our people in new technology, improving security by equipping our military, paramilitary and police with advanced weapons, gadgets and boosting agriculture on imported cosmetic products, used luxury cars etc.

we need to sit up as citizens and contribute.
