@Lotuken, Good talk, Help me tell them, if you are not on a scholarship, na MILLLIONS of naira every semester, get prepared for like 2- 3Million naira a year, otherwise you gat become a permanent resident to pay in-state fees, and that one na another tory entirely, no be small thing oo, and as an international student na only on-campus job you fit do with a max of 20hrs per week($7.25 per hour without tax ooo) if you wana maintain ur status, nothing is absolutely free here, the system is just like a rat race, ordinary car insurance for a year will build a bungalow successfully in Nigeria, as you are earning the money, they are collecting almost half of it calling it TAX, Everything is step by step, na prayer, hope, faith in God, that is if you are so sure he(God) wants you here, your prayer should just be that what took people 10 years to achieve will take you a year, 2 years or 3years to achieve, but you gat respect the value of time and timing, its not gonna be automatic, its hard work, just like the same way in Nigeria, the only difference is that yankee has several opportunities compared to Naija.

Good Luck, welcome to God's own country

Pls remember Chile in your prayers,

Guys, getting to the US may be as easy as having enough information to deliver at the embassy, However, what is most important is to know what you are going there to do.
If it is study, consider the finance and adaptability to the US system of education (assignment almost everyday), are u ready to pay like $10K every semester? do u know how much the conversion is in Nigeria, N1.53M, thats a lot of money, and u have to be paying this same amount or more every semester if u dont want to fall out of status.
Marrying a white gurl, forget, these people are not mumu as we dey see them for internet or Hollywood, they are sharp ooo, infact they used to think you are a millionaire in your country paying a huge sum as an int student.
However, coming here is good, but you gat to prepare, real preparation, nothing here is for free oooo, feeding, housing, transportation(no taxi, no okada), relative can/will shun you sometimes, u really have to calculate very well. Its not easy at all, even if you are on scholarship, you gat to have a consistent GPA to maintain it, meanwhile getting an A here starts from 90-100, it is possible anyway if you are focused, not womanizing, clubbing or watever.
America is a land for whoever wants to dwell there, as long as you can adjust and remain legal, u r good to go. Dont ever think anybody can help you here, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. Plan well, pray seriously (most importantly for a smooth ride in the US) prepare well and be positive. Have a meeting with your sponsor before leaving Naija, let him/her know what he/she is into, cos it may not be the way you thought it will be, and it might be, just be positive. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
Good luck to y'all.

Pls how can i pay for my SEVIS fee.
Likewise, in the process of showing the consular officer my documents like SAT, TOEFL and bank statements, is it reasonable to give it out with the envelopes or just the document? I hope you can understand what i mean. I am just trying to picture the whole scene before i get there.
Thanks.

@ A-Town

I actually wanted to study Electrical Engineering in the first place which has been my dream course. Because if you know much about UNILORIN, it's rare to get the course you really wanted.
I have already applied to University of Texas at El Paso ( cos i have a cousin there), North Kentucky University and Wichita state university. I have already done SAT with a good score.
I really don't know how to send my transcripts to these evaluation bodies.
Meanwhile, Wichita did not request neither an affidavit of support nor a bank statement from international applicants. Besides that, i think the school has a problem with Nigerian Applicants. I hope there is no going to be a problem at last.
But i still need 2more schools( good standard especially in Engineering, not too expensive and closeness to Texas)

I got thru wit ma Sec educatn in 2002,after that i studied Agriculture in University of Ilorin in contrast to my dream course which is ENGINEERING.i 've just finished NYSC last month. I did SAT in Jan with the score of 1997 and i just did TOEFL last weekend,i ave done CCNA as well.
I am thinking of starting all over again in courses that are relevant to my dream career, and the best i think i could do is to start over again in U.S,Y'know.am just 23,i need u guys advice on the choice of school in U.S (I'm actually considering Texas) and my preparation as regard that and the clues to the interview, and am planning towards Fall 2010.I need your frank advice
