pdozie,
to buttress what akanniade said, your inverter charging system seems to have been affected. i'm using the same sukam model with no issues at all.
also like he said, and which you also confirmed, this 5kva relay stabilizers seem not meant for applications such as ours. i have also had cause to change my stabilizer not long ago. just yesterday while doing my inverter installation, i discovered my binatone 5kv stabilizer which i bought less than a year ago has started over-supplying. same reason i changed the african master stab now the binatone is going the same route. i am already planning to get a better stabilizer and co-incidentally was thinking of getting the prag servo 10kva before i even read akanniade's post.

@akanniade,
it's been quite a while. looks like you forgot to reply my last mail?

@odilibe,
Thanks once again. I'm sure the quad ultra black LNB will live up to its name.
All the same, Sunday testing will prove those UK forums right or wrong. wink

It is my pleasure to inform the house that I have received the lnbs this afternoon for our pet project.cheers

@Ikiriye,
At last we can set the ball rolling! Thanks to odilibe, our triple LNB project
has suddenly metamorphosed into a quadruple LNB project!
Come Sunday, all doubts, all fears will be put to rest.
Let the LNB game begin!!!

Properties / Re: The Real Cost Of Building A 6 Bedroom Duplex (reloaded) by GeorgeD1(m): 8:39am On Sep 20, 2012
bekee72: can any body tell me how many blocks of 9 an 6 inches needed for the pic here.i mean from dpc of one 2 bedroom and one 3 bedroom all ensuit to two blocks after lintel?

your best bet is to look for a reliable quantity surveyor to give you a detailed quote (material schedule) based on your actual building plan. this kind of info is not generic as anybody can post anything here without even having a clue as to what they're talking about. better to spend a little money to get a true picture of what materials (quantity/price) you'd be needing for that project first hand than to rely on guesswork. and, believe me its not as expensive as you think.
just my 2 cents.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 12:45pm On Sep 18, 2012
pdozie,
four (12v) batteries in series make up 48v. if you remove one of them you end up with 36v.
your inverter was designed to operate at a minimum of 48v and will not function if one
battery is out. if you still insist on using the batteries as they are, the only other
solution is to change to either a 12v or 24v inverter. but of course that may mean
spending money in purchasing a new inverter. money that you could have invested in buying
a new set of batteries.

i sometimes wonder why they don't make inverters much like solar charge controllers where
you can configure them to accept whatever system voltage you want them to operate on. just
my thoughts.

olenyi,
thanks for the kind words. my battery bank overhaul has been long overdue. after 5yrs of
faithful service i thought it was the right time to go up higher.

indeed, not by might. not by my own strenght.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by GeorgeD1(m): 9:16am On Sep 18, 2012
@all,
We will keep pushing the frontiers of FTA here in this forum no matter how many people
jump ship. Indeed, they were originally not of us else they would have remained. Peeps
come here for different reasons. Some come to seek attention. Others come to market their
wares - nay their websites. Still others come to glean whatever little tidbits of FTA info
they can garner. Over the course of time they get tired of their own pettiness. They get
frustrated when they realise that their ultimate reason for coming here cannot be
gratifed and they leave the same way they came - without a puff, without so much as a
wisper.
Life does not consist of what you can get from others but rather what good you can give to
society.
We as a people are made of stuff that do endure. We will continue to plod the narrow,
uncertain path that leads to freedom. The freedom to track signals, the freedom to
explore new technology for the common good.
That is who we are! That is what we are here for!!!

VIVA FTA!!!!

@odilibe,
Welldone once again brother! You have done over and beyond our expectations.
Next step is for us down here to do our bit as soon as we gain custody of those
precious jewels!

Thanks also for the icing on the cake - the inverto black ultra quad!!!! cool
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by GeorgeD1(m): 9:00am On Sep 18, 2012
Ikiriye: @all
Greetings,the lnbs testing project will soon commence as our brother as at today shipped the lnbs out of UK.
The testing will basically be done on both pan dish and fibre.our target satellites will be badr,yahsat and nilesat.we will measure percentage difference between lnbs with respect to dish sizes.we will establish the best lnb so far for prime focus dishes so we don't waste our hard earned cash on non productive lnbs for fringe reception.cheers

@Ikiriye,
Welldone! You have just enumerated the exact purpose of this project.
I couldn't have expressed it better in my own words!

@microgiant,
Ok, looks like there was a communication breakdown along the way.
Still, I think its better to have a second opinion from your own end.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by GeorgeD1(m): 9:16am On Sep 13, 2012
odilibe: @George_D surprisingly the 0.1db avenger pll321s-2 lnb arrived today from united states in less than 8days from the date of shipping...the interesting part is that the avenger plll is the most smallest lnb made by DMS INTERNATIONAL but it has short neck for forward and backward adjustments(tweaking)...for now the remaining lnbf to arrive from the united states is spitfire elite lnb..cheers.. cool cool

@odilibe,
This is good news! I'm sure the spitfire should be on its way too and then the trio would have been
complete and ready for onward shipping on to here.

Welldone for all your efforts so far.

@microgiant,
Congrats for a job welldone. I see you've been putting that 1m dish into serious use! cool

We could have teamed up together for the triple LNB project if you had indicated interest
early enough rather than going solo. All the same, the more the merrier.

About the pictures, should you continue to experience difficulties with getting a reliable
camera, you can come over to my place and borrow mine.

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 2:22pm On Sep 12, 2012
pdozie,
i guess in the absence of any other alternative you have to use the batteries in their present condition
provided they're still able to carry your load. however they may not be able to serve you much longer than a
couple more months. you may do well to use the time to source for replacement batteries. that is the bitter
truth.

pdozie,
i use sukam 3.5kva too and have never experienced such. are you using solar panels/charge controller
along with your setup? also do you often use generator to charge your battery bank?

once again sorry about your loss. i just felt i should drill down to the root cause of the problem.

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 12:18pm On Sep 11, 2012
hello pdozie,
it's quite unfortunate but your batteries seem to have gone as a result of overcharging.
as you rightly guessed, your inverter charging system may have malfunctioned (for whatever reason)
and started overcharging your batteries thereby resulting in this situation you found yourself.

please do not rush to buy new batteries until you might have found out the reason for your inverter
malfunction. take the inverter to a repairer and let him look at it and rectify the charging problem.
if you don't put the inverter in order, it will most likely destroy any other batteries you buy
as a replacement.

by the way, what brand of inverter are you using?

@BUGS12, et al,
As they normally say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Therefore, I wouldn't want us to
stress ourselves here debating on which LNB is fake or original. The triple LNB project will take
care of all that. At the end of testing it will be clear which one is real or Unreal! cool
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 6:05pm On Sep 08, 2012
andymola,
1 pc 200ah deepcycle battery costs anything from 45 to 65k depending on brand and location.
1 pc 200w solar panel costs between 65 to 95k also depending on brand.

i'll leave you to do the maths.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by GeorgeD1(m): 6:02pm On Sep 08, 2012
BUGS12: @george_d and odilibe, it looks like it is very easy to get inverto quad in kenya i just asked freddygaz from kenya in my forum to show me a sample of his inverto lnb. I will keep u guys posted as soon as i get the info, so we can easily get the lnbs here in africa rather than the us or uk. Thanks

@BUGS12,
That is a good discovery on your part. However just be sure they're of the same type or make like that of their USA counterpart.
As you know the Chinese are always fond of flooding developing countries with fake copies of satellite equipment which don't perform
half as well as the original.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by GeorgeD1(m): 5:59pm On Sep 08, 2012
@not-seunosewa,
The number of satellites you can receive with a 90cm dish depends on your location.
This topic has been discussed here on this forum many times over.

Kindly go through the child board and update yourself with these information as
you will most likely find them there.

No, you won't need any extra pole for your installation.

olofofo's contact is on his profile.

blink182: Please does dstv go work everywhere in Nigeria? I am in delta state.

@blink182,
DSTV gotv does not work everywhere in Nigeria for now. You can only get it in select cities across the country.
However they have plans to cover more cities as time goes on.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by GeorgeD1(m): 12:13pm On Sep 07, 2012
@not-seunosewa,
Thanks for your interest in FTA. Obviously you must have been following the thread and have learnt a lot.

A normal 90cm or 1 meter dish is what you need for use with a HH motor. The 90cm dish you can get anywhere
they sell satellite equipment in your neighborhood. The HH motor is the tricky part where you need to source
through some of our members here. olofofo used to sell some but I don't know if he still has any stock.

As for prices, I wouldn't know how much they sell for presently. And, no I do not sell any of these items.
