@Uzoo, this is R4R on my alternative id.
For some reason the reply i made to your calf training questions as gone amiss and it's not letting me post another one. It was quite a lengthy reply, so I'm hoping Dominique can locate it for me; as i don't really fancy writing it all out again!
And yes, certainly take the advice. A good food plan is essential to a weight loss/ maintenance program.

Hello Dominique, Compliments of the season to you. Its Romeo (R4R). A post i made on this thread - https://www.nairaland.com/282744/daily-exercise-food-routine-those/217, is nowhere to be found, and i think i may have been blocked.
Please look into it for me. Thanks

Ok, here goes - original reply.

Why do you need to time yourself? The skipping is not meant to be a time trial. Also, skipping in bits -10 reps, resting, then repeating the process is merely diluting your efforts. Its like walking 10steps, resting, then repeating same pattern.
Any cardio exercise needed to burn fat has to be continuous for a min of 30 mins, and max of 1hr.

Also, calories burnt is a meaningless statistic. The value of the amount of calories burnt varies based on whether the calorie is from blood sugar, muscle glycogen, or fat - That is why any aerobic exercise, at medium to high intensity, needs to be for a min of 30mins. It takes that long for your body to go into the "fat burning phase". This can only happen with a exercise done for a min of 30mins.
Also whilst skipping is good, it cannot be done for a long time, as your calf muscles will give out long before you exceed your cardiovascular capacity. See skipping for what it is - an additional supplement to a cardio program. If i were you, i would find something else to add to the program.

Skip at a medium intensity till you cannot continue any longer. Take a mental note of how many skips it takes, and how long. Put your focus on increasing the number of skips done in one continuous session, rather than the time it takes.

Romeo4Real posting privileges suspended again. I go tire O!
I think it's because, when i do post, i tend to do a lot. That's the only viable explanation I've been able to come up with so far.
Well, the struggle continues.

Its Romeo. My post are not appearing, so i use this other ID.

Some advice, glutamine is a waste of time if you already eat enough protein from fish, chicken and beef because they all contain glutamine

This statement is misleading; for a number of reasons. (1) Yes, high protein foods such as Fish, Meat, Milk are a good source of Glutamine (L-Glutamine), but it is easily destroyed by any form of cooking, or heat. (2) If you are bodybuilding or looking to increase your muscle mass, the protein from your normal meals will not suffice, so you need to supplement. You will need a min of 15g, and up to 50g of Glutamine.
A 3ounce piece of meat, in comparison only contains 3-4g of Glutamine - and that's raw.

Though Glutamine can be produced by the body (non-essential amino acid), it is the single most important amino acid for anyone looking to increase muscle mass, and for the role it plays in muscle growth and post exercise recovery - Hence it is necessary to increase your intake via supplementation if you want to increase muscle mass or you are an athlete.
I would advice buying the standard BCAAs tablets (Amino Acids)- Do not get anything less than 1000mg per tab. Use 4-6 tabs a day. Also get the L-Glutamine tabs or powder separately and use as well. The brand is largely irrelevant, it is the dosage that is important. Make sure to take it consistently, and after immediately after exercise.

Note: It is important to take these in the correct amounts, otherwise you will see no effect. If you cant afford to do that, leave it entirely Get your protein and amino acids from other sources. A cheap source is egg whites. You can boil or eat "scrambled". A minimum of 10 eggs/day for breakfast.

Dominique, this is getting REALLY fustrating.
After you replied, I logged in with the "rome4real" id, and sure enough, all was fine, so i attemted to send you a quick thank you in this thread.
It suspended my priviledges again! It was not a long post(just saying thank you), nor were there any links in it.

Surely this "sensitivity" can be fixed easily, or is NL trying to reduce the number of its members by fustrating them?

Health / Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Gigantor: 3:12pm On Jul 09, 2009
I started trying to lose weight in March at 97kg, as at last sunday I am 79kg, my target weight is 60kg, I'm 5"7 so that will give me a BMI of  20 which I think will be fine. I have an underlying medical condition which makes me have hormonal imbalances and insulin resistance.  At first I still ate practically anything just reduced my portions and took long walks and the weight slowly started coming off but stopped so I started watching my food by counting calories (1200 daily) and only eating complex carbs (whole wheat bread, brown rice etc) with lots of veggies and protein. I also started running and started working with weights (dumbbells)

@Carpe Diem - this is Romeo4Real, just having problem with my id's at the mo.

Let me congratulate you on your weight loss so far. Well done! A  stall is normal during a weight loss program. It is simply because your body gets used to weight loss program, and adjusts ur metabolic rate to compensate, hence the stagnation.

Diet
Your diet and water intake seem fine. If anything, i would say u are not eating enough. There are minimal carbs in ur diet. If your body senses its starving (not getting adequate calories), it regulates the metabolic rate to compensate, shutting down any weight loss mechanisms. Simply put - it attempts to survive by putting a halt to the weight loss. Your diet should contain adequate carbs from food with a high Glycemic Index in small portions. You should be having some carbs ideally with every meal - with the exception of the last, if you choose.

I would also like to check a few things with you. (1) What protein shake are you taking?. Does it contain any artificial sweeteners? If so, what are they? Also, is the salad a dry salad, or are you using any dressing. (Nandos salad dressing are notoriously high in salt and calories). It is important to watch your salt intake,  will cause you to retain water amongst other things. Also, what filling is in the Sandwich you have for lunch? and where do you buy it from?.

Though your condition encourages weight gain, and also makes it difficult for your body to use fat as energy, Your plan is generally on the right track. I would not worry too much about your counting calories and your BMI. They are both useful as guidance tools, but can be totally misleading if you depend too much on the figures.
I'm sure you know that the calories are equally as important as the type of food they come from.
Regarding the BMI, unfortunately, it does not take into account Muscle/Fat ratios and Bones density, and thus can be misleading. It is well known that Negroid phenotype people tend to have higher bone densities/Muscle to Fat ratios, which will lead them to having higher BMI's without being necessarily overweight.

Exercise.
Ok, from what i can see, you are in the Gym 6days a week You combine ur cardio with weights on every day, except on  Tues, Thurs and Sat. Hope that is correct. Now were gonna make some changes. I'd like you to do ur cardio and weights on different days. this ensure your body van get the benefit of the particular exercise type, and allows you to focus better. Here are guidelines you need to use -

- Spend no more than an hour in the gym. Remember, its not how much you do, but how u do it
- Stretch and warm up before/after. Dedicate10 mins for this
- Separate ur training days into Cardio/ Weight days - No mixing
- I suggest 3 cardio days and 3 weight days
- I suggest you do a 2 day on, 1 day off program, to allow you some rest
- For Cardio, choose ur machine, and stick to it. You can use another machine another day. e.g If using Treadmill, use for duration of session- 40 mins. U can use a diff machine another day.
- Stop running - you will eventually have problems with ur knees and ankles. Walk briskly instead, and increase the levels instead till you cant hold a conversation well.
- For Weights, divide your body into body parts, then into days, and train accordingly - E.g Chest, Arms(Bicep/Triceps) - Day 1, Shoulders/Back - Day 2, Legs/Abs - Day 3.
- Only do 2 exercises/per body part, and max 3 sets/per exercise, increase reps to 15-20, as 10 to low for the weights ur using. E.g, for legs, you can do 2 exercises = Squats and Lunges, 3 sets each = 6 sets in total.

Hope this helps. If unclear, just let me know.

Religion / Re: Why Did Jesus Call For The Killing Of Children? by Gigantor: 12:19pm On Jul 09, 2009
Why do you think I was questioning the killing of anyone, child, adult, man or woman, especially for something as trivial as disobeying their parents? What issue do you think I was questioning?
Of course, I was questioning the act of killing. What else could I have been question? And killing is a moral issue. So it was and has also been a moral issue?
Huxley, i tire for u O!. Ur original question was - Why Does Jesus Call for the Killing of Children. Dint tell me you have forgotten that already.

I get my parameters to judge morality from the same place you get yours, which is certainly NOT the bible. If you got your morality from the bible then you would be practicing some of the most reprehensible injunctions from the bible.
Now i get mine from the Bible, so from ur statement above, we can safely conclude that so do you. All modern societies in the world have based their definitions of morality, broadly on the 10 Commandments and the teaching of Jesus. Show me one modern society in the world, which has law, within their constitution, that is not broadly in line with the 10 commandments or the teachings of Jesus.
So, if you did not get your moral compass from the Bible, you need to show us the book, writing, publication,or person you got it from, and I'll prove it was based on the Bible. Even the teaching of Buddha were based on the Bible.

I have many threads here that discuss the many immoralities in the bible - if you want I could bring a couple of them up again.
Huxley, You are looking at the Bible as a non-believer, with a lack of understanding, so it is understandable that you see it in the way you do. You are also cherry picking passages, without understanding the context in which they were written.

The Bible is a record of events, written by a collection of people, some who were just ordinary men recording history, Others wrote as it happened, and as part of history, like Moses, some were Disciples, others Apostles, some wrote their dreams and visions like John the Baptist, others wrote letters, and opinions, such as Paul, but ALL were Men of God, and influenced by God in their writings.

Does the Bible contain inaccuracies? Of course it does - just like any historical book. Does it show God as sometimes harsh? Yes. Can he be seen as terrible? Yes, even the Bible confirms this. Can this harshness be sometimes interpreted as wickedness? Of course. But what is not in doubt, as the Bible makes clear, that even in all the harshness, and perceived wickedness, is unrequited and unconditional love.
Remember, just because your father punishes you harshly, and you sometimes think he is unjust and wicked, just because you do not understand his actions, does not mean he does not love you. In fact, most of us would agree, looking back at our youth, that it was all unquestionably for our own good. That is the way God is.

There is no point in trying to drag up inconsistencies in the Bible for cheap point scoring tricks. Yes,there are inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the Bible, but these cannot nullify the general message, and if you check properly, the main message is very much consistent.

Show me where it say that those to whom these commandments were binding are adults with parents? You have not done this.
I don't need to show you. I have demonstrated that in ALL the passages, the speaker was speaking to an adult audience. If those teachings were for children, they would have gathered an audience full of Children, wouldn't they?

Take for instance, a 12 years old child who infringed any of the commandments like disobeying their parents, violating the sabbath laws, killing another person, or worshiping another god. Do you think they would have been spared the sanctions of the law?
Yes, they would have been. The Bible makes its clear that it IS the responsibility of the parent to teach a child what is right, and bring them up in a Godly way, as children can not consistently grasp the difference btw right and wrong, unlike adults. There are numerous passages that cover parents teaching their children this teaching in Deuteronomy,Timothy, Ephesians, Psalms, Proverbs, etc

27And if it be of an unclean beast, then he shall redeem it according to thine estimation, and shall add a fifth part of it thereto: or if it be not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to thy estimation. 28Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto the LORD of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD. 29 None devoted, which shall be devoted of men, shall be redeemed; but shall surely be put to death. 30And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD. 31And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof.

I submit that this is clearly human sacrifice.

Huxley, you can.t submit something that you are clearly making up. That smacks of downright stubbornness. Here is the NLT version posted below. Maybe that will help shed some light on it for you.

“However, anything specially set apart for the Lord—whether a person, an animal, or family property—must never be sold or bought back. Anything devoted in this way has been set apart as holy, and it belongs to the Lord. 29 No person specially set apart for destruction may be bought back. Such a person must be put to death.

As you can see, There is no "sacrifice" here. This is about a devoted animal, that cannot be bought back or redeemed, or a person, due to a transgression, already set to die, that cannot be redeemed. It really is simple.

Hi i just lost a few kg and need to know wat i can do to tighten lose flesh. What fruits are good  4 weight loss
This is Romeo4real - Well done on your weight loss. To "tighten" or tone your muscles, you will have to do some form of resistance exercise. If you have access to a gym - Great. If not, there are a multiple of exercises you can do at home to firm your body. Press ups, Sit ups, Squats. Biceps. Your arms (Triceps/Biceps)and Shoulders raises/press can be done using bags of Sugar or cans of Tomatoes to provide resistance.

There are no particular fruits that are "good" for weight loss, but you can eat fruits that have less calorific value, whilst providing you with some fibre - Apples, Oranges, Tangerines etc.
Remember the only way to maintain your weight loss is to change your lifestyle to include some form of regular exercise, and maintain a healthy diet low in Precessed foods, Fats, Oil and Sugars. Carbs should be also consumed in moderation.
Religion / Re: Why Did Jesus Call For The Killing Of Children? by Gigantor: 10:44pm On Jul 07, 2009
Firstly, can you explain how you got the context of children to mean "adults with parents"? Where is this context from? Do you have some sort of previlege access to the context that is not available to a straight-forward reading of the text?
Don't be silly. Every adult has a parent, and is thus a "child", and we don't need to guess the context. A quick lesson understanding the Bible though, - To understand any topic in the Bible, u cannot take a passage or issue in isolation. U need to look at all occurences and incidences of that topic to come to a full comprehension of it.

Now lets look at ALL the occurrences of this topic -
The first is Ex 20:12, followed by Ex 21:15, Ex 21:17, Lev19:3, Lev 20:9, Deut 5:16, Deut 27:16, Matt 15:4-6, Matt 19:19, Mark 7:10, Luke 18:20, Eph 6:2.There are more, but these are the relevant ones. In all the passages, it is clear the speaker is speaking to, and thereby referring to an adult audience, not children.

Secondly, why is this God, who is also Jesus, so brutal, violent and barbaric? This is not the only incident where he demands and displays behaviour which would be way beyond the pale today. Let me give some example, just to show you that killing children was well within the purview of this Jesus God:
It really would do you well to research ur subject matter properly before casting desultory arguments.

1) He Demands human sacrifices Lev 27:29 - This is not about human sacrifices, but rather about the punishment of anyone who sells or redeemed a devotional offering already devoted to God. Likewise Exodus 22: 29-30 is not about sacrificial offerings, but about devoted offerings - You need to learn about the difference btw the two.
2) He even gets a human sacrifice when Jephthah sacrifices his daughter to God, Judges 11 - Now ur just being stupid. God never asked Jephthah for an offering. Jephthah mad the vow himself, and felt he had to redeem it. It was even his daughter (the"sacrifice"wink who encouraged him to honour his vow
3) Numbers 13 - He orders the ethnic cleasing of an entire community save for their virgin girls - No, not Numbers 13, but Numbers 31. It helps to know ur argument - Moreover, God did not command this. Moses did. This is the ignorance of Bible bashers showing through. Not all actions committed by people were sanctioned or even ordered by God. The Bible is very clear and irrefutable on actions ordered by God.

4) He kills all the firstborn in Egypt - Yes, he ordered this, as a final warning, after 9 plagues had proved insufficient. remember, Pharaoh had enslaved God's people and refused to let them go.

The question is - What is ur point? That God is sometimes brutal? If so, so what? Does that mean he is not God because of this? Does my father cease to become my dad, because he sometimes smacks me?, Or,If he kills somebody else to protect me, does that means he no longer is my father?

Does the above suggest that Jesus meant to change the LAWS? Why would he require his followers to be more observant of the laws than the Pharisees and the teachers of the law? What law was Jesus referring to here?
Again Huxley, u are being very ignorant here. U need to study the the writings of Paul in Romans 6 onwards, where he discusses the legalistic issues concerning the Law and Grace.
What Jesus is saying in Matt 5 is simply an extension of Paul's arguments - That though u are no longer under the Law(not judged according to the strict letter), but are now under Grace(Grace is now a consideration in the application of the Law), does not mean make the Law invalid - In fact the Law is still valid, because it the yardstick to confirm there has been sin.
He also makes it clear he has an issue with people, especially the Pharisees who follow the Letter of the Law - What the Law states, but not the Spirit of the Law - What the Law and God stand for. He is saying the "Letter" is just as important as the "Spirit", and both should be observed equally.

What the deuce is this? Yes, the Pharisees where being hypocritical - that is NOT in dispute. But there were being hypocritical for a good reason - they did not wish to observe a barbaric law, and had reformed this, replacing it with the "the tradition of their elders", including which would have been a relaxation of Ex 21:17. Yes, they challenged with a much more moral and humane tradition, rather than the barbarism of Exodus 21: 17.
Now, what is wrong with that?
Of course, ur not a Christian, otherwise you would not ask this question. Kinda make debating this issue with you a mere academic exercise.
The Pharisees regarded themselves as authorities and experts on God, Godly issues ,and also believed in upholding the the Oral Laws of God given to Moses. But quite frequently, they were prepared to subvert these laws when it suited them, That is why Jesus always regarded them as a bunch of hypocrites.
You cannot claim to believe in the sacrosanct authority of something, then question and change it when it suits you.
So, im sure you can now see "what is wrong with that".

But Jesus too is a hypocrite, because on the one hand Jesus recognises the Pharisees as sticklers for the LAW (Matthew 5: 20, For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven) and on the other hand points accusatory fingers at them.
How does this prove Jesus is a hypocrite? He recognises them as sticklers of the Law, whilst being sinners, and flouting the spirit of the Law. Jesus see that the motivation of the Pharisee is not to be Godly, rather its the power that come with being the authority and enforcers of the Law they are interested in.

All HYPOCRITES. But the worst is the one who falsely claims to be the son of God, Messiah, King of Kings, etc, etc. What a BIG LIAR
. I would assume ur referring to Jesus here. Can u pls enlighten us who the REAL son of God is? Is it you, or someone else? And pls show ur authoritative sources for this statement above.
