dimples*:The contributors to the meaning of ur name were right. Itunu is one of the precious and more unique name given to a favored girl child. It has indigenous Yoruba meaning as well as a link to praise and worship of God the most High for His bounties. A girl with that name possibly has history of events happening prior to her being born and eventually being named that.... Such name don't just happen... |

Literature / Re: Memorable Stories From Your English Primary Books!!! by Gilbertman(m): 6:51am On Oct 22, 2013 |
Kudos to all on here above. This was one thread that no one abuse the other and all were just going down memory lane. I could identify with some of the posts. I read Alawiyes, the D.O Fagunwas,Akuni the beautiful Girl, MAbel Segun's My father's daughter,Taiwo ati Kehinde, the incorruptible judge etc Those days were rich, well nurtured and enriched times!! Oliver Twist,David Cooperfield. Somehow I have problem differentiating which I read in Pry or Sec. I remembered I read quite a few...Mind and intellect were not with any much worries then, lively qualitative lives. As a matter of fact those were my best times, but one cant go back or remain that no more!!! Life goes on... Well done to the OP. There was this song of the hen that the hunter threw away for not laying eggs. I think the story or the book was The hunter and the hen. ...Hunter bought me from the market he rared me and wait on me to lay eggs, hunter was impatient and threw me over the fence into the bush. Rain shine, I lay 7 eggs, hatch all I no longer belongs to nobody, I am free and happy The song may not be like that but that was the general theme that I could remember. 1 Like |

For the fact that people of the ilk of Naptu 2,ishilove,dudu negro and the other contributors to this thread are of Nigerian origin, then there is HOPE for Nigeria. Check out the honor accorded the Nigerian head in 1961,and the respect he commanded.Examined his gait and no-nonsense non-servitude demeanour coupled with deep clean aura(no skeleton in my environs at all)! How do "they" welcome the President or the Representatives from Nigeria now outside the shores of the Country?Where has the glory gone? The various aspects of Nigeria and occurences touched by the @op were intriguing, reminiscive. The pictures, posters, youtube clips were all ingenuously package.I was born post civil war,but live a kinda sheltered life growing up, most of the events were like far away..vague.Going through the 21 pages of this post really brought them home to my consciousness and was able to fill some of the void of what is which and wheretofores. In short, thanks for this forum, thanks to the resourceful contributors. I am proud to be a Nigerian. God bless Nigeria,Nigerians,Nairalanders and all that went through this particular post THE GOOD THE BAD THE BEAUTIFUL THE UGLY. 2 Likes |

Jokes Etc / Re: What Will You Describe This Picture As? by Gilbertman(m): 10:19pm On Jul 28, 2012 |
The picture and the comments did make the hour went by fast. Thanks once again to NLs Nigeria go survive, AFRICA GO SURVIVE, My people go survive, we will all survive. If we'll own up and go through our deeds long long before this time, we'll definitely fish out some phenomenal things we have done in those days when life was so free, so tough, so compulsory,as a matter of 'necessity' and the only means to an end.Or even when life was still tender , I mean at the infancy stage when a crawling baby will put anything from Kerosene to 'anything' that look like 'food' or 'beans' in his/her mouth.Or talk of when we were sick and concoctions were mixed up for us to drink, in the name of curing us of the high fever!!!!!!!!!..Tell you what Nigerians have come a long way.The craftman in the picture did take time to clean the headpan,I am not sure if he used hot water or cold water(most likely he used cold water) to prepare the tea(and guess what that tea will be very rich!!). Consider a farmer working in the farm and decide to eat pawpaw or suck orange, will he bother to do any elaborate cleaning..?Nope!! or a dairyman milking a cow and decide to take a sip..get the picture..... In conclusion, I will describe the picture as "LIVE AND LET LIVE". God bless my Fatherland. 1 Like |

It is all funny, and these are what make Nigerians(all over the nations)still standing and smiling. There are many reasons like these to live for i.e opportunity to laugh, smile, be happy and live longer despite any on-going stressful circumstances. Now,have y'all consider the possibility that the road may be a 2 way road and the OP was travelling on the opposite direction, thereby was able to observe the 'comedy' headlong and then took the picture near sideways(just before passing the okada)? In all we should be aware of the underline implication of this kind of "comedy" just as some of the contributors here pointed out.I couldn't imagine how the guy with 4 tyres(tires) was able to hang on!There are laws, but no one takes heed!!!!!!!!!! |

May his soul rest in peace. I grew up in that era (of their prowess and sportsmanship on the field), and I could recollect how we use to go and see them alighted from their Club Coaster bus at Lizzy Guest House Mokola where they usually lodge. The team were highlights of those years. And when we team up @ the field/playground, someone will be Sam Ojebode, another Segun Odegbami and so on.They were our kind of celebs then. I recollected one of them had a very hairy dog then named Racca that travels with them( I guess in some attribute to Racca Rovers Club etc). may God help and cater more for the families and the NIGERIA he left behind. Family / Re: Husband Taking Meat From The Pot Of Soup/stew: Whats Ur Take On This? by Gilbertman(m): 7:01pm On Jul 04, 2012 |
kkool0411: "SUPPORTED" From:Abysirius - As an african man it's very wrong for a man to be doing this- dish stew from the soup pot by himsef not alone taking meat from it anytime he just feels like eating meat. Let's call a spade a spade 'ojukokoro mbawon ja'. Or y would a man be eating meat like he was a wolf. Abi, man don marry make him allow him wife do d thing now! But woman, be sincere to ursef, are u sure u don't normally cheat him wen it comes to sharing ratio...lolz. Otherwise, he no get reason to be doing dis now. Anyway My advice 4 him: tell him meat is murder, it'll be good if he could be a vegetarian. "SUPPORTED" First of all , I hope this is a serious/live thread, not just a post for posting sake. Whichever way,for real or fun, this is my own contribution. What we do in the house is being reflected to the rest of the family(Parents are the mirror that the children looks into and form most of their habits and personality). We all knew that it is a coded form of stealing/thieving to be taking meat out of the pot, moreso when everyone else has gotten their rightful portion(for this same reason also, were women/ladies/girls told by their mother, while growing up not to eat or *'taste'* gluttonously while cooking). In those days growing up we were not even allowed to buy Fried fish, fried meat or this 25 penny condensed milk, 'cause we were told it is the beginning of stealing tendencies/vices.The breadwinner wouldn't want his boy grew up with this kind of habit will he? I guess not. Suggested Solution... (1)If you(the wife) has the time and resources, separate his pot from the general pot(and I do not think this will be stop-proof move as he seems very familiar and 'comfortable' looking around in the kitchen). However for what it is worth you could do that and explain to him that you make his own special and plenty etc. (2) Take him along with you when you are out shopping, let him not just wait in the car, let him come with you each and every steps of the way..buying the ingredients and bargaining/haggling about the meat(if you are home),if you are abroad, ask him while at the meat market how much lb of meat does he suggest you buy, and even let him choose what part etc. Then when you get home, after relaxation and thanks in your own way to him for accompanying you on the trip, take him through the next leg of preparing/washing the meat/seasoning and cooking it(if he is still standing after all these, I doubt if he will want to taste the meat or come back for more after the usual family serving). (3)Since the habits doesn't form overnight(and probably you had noticed it during your courtship and let it pass for whatever reason. This is your cross now!!), you may want him to be the one in charge of solely preparing/cooking the meat(he may love it since he is not ashamed of frequenting the kitchen). 4.Variety is the spice of life and everything, start experimenting on different types of meat(if you(through his financing) can afford the luxury and you have no inhibitions towards different meat),such as snail, duck, turtle, guinea fowl/chicken(buy the live g.fowl/hen and make the family join in slaughtering and shedding the feathers). 5.If over 3 weeks or 2 months period of each/any of the above s.slns and no improvement, come back to this thread, give us feedback and the house will sit on it again. There are many ways to And on a lighter note, your problem is minute, compare to husbands that drinks/sucks their wives' naturely produce milk while they are nursing |

I am really sad to read of this devastating news.Though,we all owe the death debt and we do not know when, how or what will the preceeding events be,still it's heart-rending to hear of this kind of occurence and calamity.May God help and protect Nigeria.May God give us all and the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss and learned to thank the Lord for each seconds we are allow breath! One could not be 'fate' wise as to know when death will come knocking.....hence no one, repeat no one could dodge death.A whole family not going on one trip or a whole family staying at home or a whole family not travelling in one vehicle,is not a topic to derail on today, for we all know that, no matter what, when it is time , it is time.Just reminisce on the so many disasters that has brought Nigeria to a stand still in the past! The "Omiyale" flood for example, a good number of whole(nuclear and extended) family were at their shops in 'Ogunpa' and they were just wiped out!! What would you have asked the Father or the Mother or the grand dad/mum to do back then?? Not to let all the member come to the store same time or be traders in the same mall? Let's be sad with those who are sad please and let's pray more for our Country. There are thousands of ways daily to die that we face, it has been by God's mercy and timing that our turn to succumb has not come.Let's try to live life the best and godliest we can, with the hope that when death do come, we will go fulfill and hope that the life after will be more peaceful and sadness free unlike this one that we are in now.We should also pray that God,the creator may divinely intervene in the matters of Nigeria and Nigerians, so much that all corrections should be made to everything crooked that directly or indirectly initiated the chain of events that led to this kind of(possibly or otherwise preventable) mass death. I am disturbed about all the names and precious people in the manifest, but the name and person on #127 knocked close home . I hope he is not the same brother that was at Kwarapoly FCS with me.Please if anyone has any in-depth,to please reply |

"Police don't consider Bimbo Olumuyiwa Oyewole a suspect in the unsolved murder of Jerry Thomas, who was shot outside a Queens, N.Y., YMCA in 1992. But they shed some light on how the 55-year-old Nigerian allegedly assumed Thomas' identity and went on to work for 20 years as a guard and then a supervisor for a private security firm at Newark Liberty International Airport. New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said investigators believe Thomas sold his identification documents to a Nigerian cab driver, who then sold them to Oyewole. Authorities have said Oyewole began using his new identity about three weeks before Thomas was shot on July 20, 1992." --***"http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47449845#.T7Ql4ejY-2k"****** |

Shame shame shame, cry cry cry, my beloved fatherland.Erratic power supply is not a new occurence in Nigeria, and I would have believe or hope that successive Ministers or Presidents take a definite stand in addressing the situation. But nay,it is getting so bad that vital facilities in the country are experiencing the same national problem.Even the alternate power supply, the generator, could not be maintained efficient enough for this occurence to stop!!!!!! |
