Adverts / Start A Web Design Business And Earn $50/hour- Step-by-step Guide by gitgreen: 11:30am On Mar 22, 2021
Web design is the most in-demand skill on the internet right now. It has always been so in North America and Europe. But the rest of the world has woken up. When Covid-19 hit, the need for businesses of all kinds to have a web presence beyond social media became more evident.

Every serious business needs a website, now!

Unfortunately, worldwide, there are apparently less than 10 million web designers, according to one estimate. The world is 8 billion people strong. Do the math, there's an abysmal shortage of web designers, especially good ones!

Check out Fiverr, Upwork and the other skills marketplaces online, you'll understand the demand for web designers.

And that's where you come in. If you know how to "press phone", you should learn web design.

Make no mistake, straight 8 to 5 jobs are fast disappearing. The gig economy is in full swing. And who says you can't hold a full-time job and do web design as a side business?

How much do web designers earn? It depends. But a quick googling will reveal an average of $50/hour. It is definitely lower if you're servicing only customers in Nigeria.

The sweet part of web design is that once you acquire a sizable portfolio of high-quality websites, you can command high sums! The same website an upcoming freelancer would make for 50k, you'd be begged to make for 500k! That's how the industry works.

How do you start a web design business?

Step 1.
Learn web design.
This one is obvious. You want to get a firm grip on the skill you're getting paid for.

What to learn to start:
Html and WordPress.

Extras:
Learn CSS, Javascript and UX/UI design.

Click for a free introductory video course on WordPress.

Step 2.
Build a portfolio.
No it doesnt have to be "real clients". Just build something stunning. Check online for websites of big business, especially in a niche you'd like to specialize. It can health, travel or fashion. Then clone the design. Do so for at least 3 websites.

Don't just leave them on your laptop. Host the websites online, if possible with different domain names. You can get domain names from $1.

Step 3
Now find a real Client.
Don't look to far. There's got to a family member or friend, or associates of associates, that has a business. Build them a website for free. Make sure your website would immediately benefit that business.

How would you convince them you could build websites? Check Step 2, above!

If you can afford it, repeat Step 3 three times. Now you've got 3 real clients! And real world experience, along the way.

Step 4
Ask your real clients for Referrals.
When your real clients refer someone to you, do the job well, no matter how little they're going to pay

No one knows tomorrow.

Keep rolling like this and you're getting super popular.

Step 5
Get on Fiverr.
Acceptance on Fiverr is automatic.
While waiting for fiverr customers, you can ask your next non-fiverr clients to buy your gig on fiverr. That way they can leave good reviews for you.

Fiverr is a review game. The more positive reviews you get, the more jobs come your way.

Step 6
Fine tune your Processes
Build a real company. Ensure you're registered, if you're not at this point. Fix your branding. Sprinkle some bureaucracy.

Like have different departments, even if it's still a solo company. At least have different emails for customer support, billing and general inquiries.

Ensure you sign contracts with every client or at least a document that states your deliverables- to avoid stories that touch!

You're preparing for when you go big!

Step 7
Keep learning.
Add more skills. SEO, SEM, Paid Marketing etc.

Are you overwhelmed? Don't be! It's not easy. It takes time. But you'll get there, If you don't give up!

Step 8
Nothing. You can Google everything and get things done.

Or you can find someone already in the industry to guide you. No, it might not be free. But the value would far outweigh the cost.

In any case, I hope you'd start a web design business and enjoy the freedom of working remotely, getting paid in dollars, and actually helping people grow their businesses!

P.S: Here's a free resource that answers the most common questions about web design. Check it out!

Maputhohq:

I want to be able to start a career in Canada as a web developer, but apparently I can't do that as I would need a reason to go. My main problem right now is purpose, should I take up the Interactive Web design course in Georgian College which would really help in setting me up in the Canadian IT sector and help increase my web dev skills as it's a really hands on course or take up the Masters in Communication Technology just to be able to go over (less immigration trouble) and maybe later try to get into the Web dev community after my studies while still increasing my web dev skills during the Masters programme on my own. Which would be a better route.
My skillset right now include HTML/CSS, JavaScript, React. I know I still have a long way but I've been able to come this far. I plan on taking more coursera courses and having side projects to be able to add to my portfolio.

Your present skillset is enviable already. I'd say you go for the Masters in Communication Technology. And if it indeed fast tracks your entering Canada, Web development is something you can pick up anywhere. And obviously, Canada has far better conditions to become a Pro Web developer!
Career / Re: 3 Reasons Why You Should Start An Online Course In 2021 by gitgreen: 4:35pm On Mar 06, 2021
gitgreen:
Today, you can take courses from Harvard, MIT and other top universities in the world, from anywhere you live- thanks to edx.org and countless online learning platforms. But forget university courses for a second.

Learning new skills is a deep human need. Skills rule the world and acquiring one or two is a requirement of 2017 and beyond. App development, web design, dressmaking, renewable energy tech, UX design, digital marketing are skills in high demand today and would remain so for a long time to come.

And you don’t need a university education to pick up these skills.

All you need is a mobile device and internet.

You can learn anything online. Online learning is boundless. No boring classrooms, no traffic to school, no endless school bureaucracy, no university lecturers going on strike, no inhuman deadlines. And did I add it can be stupidly cheap to take online courses?

Here are 3 Reasons Why You Should Start an Online Course in 2020:

1. Convenience
2. Affordability
3. Repetitive learning

Convenience
Stay back at home and learn anything you want. That’s the convenience online learning provides. From computer programming to child-care, there is a plethora of information on offer online.

Affordability
While many courses online are not without cost, there are a million and one that is absolutely free. Start with Youtube. Even on huge course marketplaces like Udemy or streamlined ones, you would still find plenty of free courses. For as low as $20, for example, you can learn to build websites and make a living out of it.

Repetitive Learning
Have you ever missed a class- a physical classroom session? Likely you have! Even if you get notes from classmates, you can not replay your teacher’s oral presentation again. You have forever missed the color of his eyes and the emotions on his face as he drove home the points in class.
With online learning, you can literally playback your teacher’s presentation as many times as needed. Most online courses are pre-recorded or even if they are live, recordings are usually made available. Repetitive learning enhances the self-paced educational experience.
You should start an online course right away. No, you don’t have to start with paid courses. There are plenty of free courses to choose from, and they’re still the real deal.

Quick extra: There's a big spike in demand for Web designers right now.

Check this two websites:

1. Site 1
2. Site 2

Both websites were built for 880,000 naira, combined!

And both were built with the most powerful web builder on the internet- WordPress.

Guess, it takes only 4 weeks to learn WordPress.

Hello. Web development is high in demand, globally. Web development is divided into two broad parts:

1. Front-end web development
2. Back-end web development

Most people start with frontend development. It's simpler and you can quickly make money as a freelancer or even land a good job in a matter of months.

Here's what to learn to become a frontend web developer:

1. Html
2. CSS
3. Javascript
4. React or Vue (both are javascript frameworks)

Bonus: Learn WordPress. WordPress powers 39% of the websites on the internet.

To become a backend developer:

You can just stick with Javascript and learn

1. Node.js
2. Express.js
3. MongoDb

You're almost set up at that point and should be commanding 6 figures in income.

Additionally, learn

1. Git
2. Basic Server Administration

Where to learn:
Focus on learning online. It's cheaper and easier.
I recommend Freecodecamp.com. You can also find $10 courses on Udemy.

If you want to start building websites for people within weeks, you can start with WordPress.

I can teach you that, one-on-one via zoom and provide videos to supplement the live classes.

Anybody with any advice in the house please??

What do you really want? Switch to Web development or try to infuse Mass Communication into Web Development? Web Development is a huge career path on its own. And evidently, you don't need a degree for that let alone a second degree.

Please focus on building your dev skills and build a career there. By the way what is your skillset in web development?

Health / The Value Of Pharmacy-based Rapid Diagnostic Testing To Patient Care by gitgreen: 12:47pm On Dec 14, 2020
Point-of-care testing (POCT) is now a proven approach that can provide faster turnaround (TAT) of laboratory test results. As manufacturers continue to introduce new POCT technologies, POCT is increasing in popularity, breadth of testing, and the diversity of available clinical applications.

Point-of-care (POC) testing can potentially improve the detection and management of infectious diseases by reducing the time between testing for and the diagnosis of an infection. Rapidly diagnosing an infection benefits the patient by facilitating timely access to care and initiation of therapy; it may also benefit the population at large by reducing the probability of disease transmission.

Furthermore, rapidly identifying the cause of an infection and promptly initiating appropriate therapy may reduce inappropriate antimicrobial use in the community. For acute illnesses such as influenza and streptococcal pharyngitis, early identification and intervention are associated with better outcomes and reduced transmission.

Point of Care Testing offers the general community the benefits of easy access, quality, and cost-effective healthcare services. For instance, point-of-care glucose testing (finger stick test) for patients with diabetes requires less-invasive and less-complex sample collection compared with blood testing. It also provides rapid results that can help make more timely treatment decisions.

Moreover, in the age in which patients are constantly seeking exceptional yet instantaneous service, Point of Care service improves patient satisfaction and removes likely barriers that prevent them from receiving follow-up care.

Traditional HIV testing, such as ELISA (enzyme-linked immunoassays), needs quite a few days for results, while the rapid HIV tests can produce results in as little as 20 minutes. This can enable treatment initiation and progression toward reducing undiagnosed HIV infection around the world.

Point of Care Testing for infectious diseases is based on a variety of microbial particle-based or antibody-based detection methods, including agglutination, enzyme-linked immunosorbent, optical immunoassays, or lateral flow immunochromatography.

Common Point of Care Testing for infectious diseases can detect a variety of infections or microorganisms from patient specimens.

As a wellness community pharmacy practice, a point of care testing service will not only help reduce the overall cost incurred by a patient or third-party payer for a health care encounter, it also introduces the possibility to provide the patient with the most cost-effective service. Patients will essentially save money by having the test performed at a pharmacy. Along with decreased costs, a point of testing service also increases access, which can decrease the patient’s overall time spent.

A few of the community pharmacy-based Rapid Diagnostic Testing CLIA-waived tests currently being offered at Pharmacies include international normalized ratio, Helicobacter pylori, A1C, influenza, and HIV/hepatitis C virus screening. Infectious disease tests can be used in community pharmacies to screen for communicable diseases of public health interest.

For example, performing Point-of-Care Testing services for HIV and hepatitis C virus can improve linkage to appropriate care or counseling services for patients with reactive test results. Expanded surveillance through the use of these tests may also provide more accurate data on disease prevalence as well as increase public health agencies’ ability to reach targeted populations for screening.
