Stannis died just about the same period Jon's men back at Castle Black were planning the "end of his watch"... about a year and half ago.

Probably. Now, factor in how much time passed before stannis died (from leaving dragon stone till dying by brienne) that would have taken about a year or atleast 6months

So, this leave the men he left behind just short of 3 years to guard a castle.

They def deserted.

You are referring to Ned stark right?

Jon's father is Dany's elder brother.

Dany is Jon's aunty.

Ned was just his adoptive father

Battles are not always about numbers, they are more about strategy or tactics, Jon is all heart and no brain. They stood a fair chance of winning, he made the decision to save his brother with his heart, if he had used his head he would had admitted the truth that sansa the one you called useless told him which is whether victorious or not, rickon as a trueborn son of Ned and catelyn stark, would never be allowed to live beyond that day by Ramsey Bolton! And you congratulate him for being willing to die forgetting that his ragtag Arny was built around him with no secondary commander that commands the respect of the different constituents of the army so simply put, he dies, they die without putting much of a fight! In fact, most of his men died in that battle because of his stupidity! They left a solid defensive position to come save him thereby committing into an attack in which they were grossly outnumbered! Playing into Ramsey's hand allowing him to execute his plans where all he needed to do was sacrifice only his Calvary alongside almost the entirety of Jon's army while mopping any remnants and stragglers with his infantry in a circumvalliation! And you are here praising Jon! Who had to be saved by sansa who brought the vale knights. When Jamie was captured, did you see tywin flying with his army to go rescue him? Instead he retired to a strong defensive position in harrenhall. Now that is a leader who used his head

Lol. Easy for you to say.

When they hear that their leader has died in Battle, what do you expect them to do, still stay there ? and GOT scenes ain't happening in days.... For what we know, Stannis died in Battle like 2 months back, so u expect them to stay in the castle for 2 months eating what ?

Months?

Atleast a year.

Well, there is a thing in war they call "tactical retreat" and Dragonstone was the place for Stannis. He also went into Battle of the Blackwater almost certain of victory but when he lost where did he retreated to to re-strategise? As I already mentioned, Stannis is one of the finest commanders in the Kingdom. If he didn't make that mistake during the battle of blackwater (which he was more confident of winning), why would he later (when he was even less confident)?

@Gbola5, thanks for the correction. No horn whatsoever (either Dragonbinder or Joramun's) was mentioned on the show. We only know that there was a horn along with the dragonglass found at the Frostfangs.

The simplest answer to this is that the men left.

It's been years since stannis died after all. No reason to keep it guarded with the risk of being branded traitors by the Crown or what not.

Yes. Until another comes to claim it, they would hold the Castle in Stannis's memory. That's how it works.

Hold it for how long? Don't forget that it was probably years since stannis died. After his men lost faith in him you expect them to hold a castle for him

Yes, but he should have left a few of those "men" at Dragonstone incase of a retreat, even if the rest of his "men" desert him or die in battle. The point is Daenerys storms an empty castle that is not in ruins.

Stannis had a thin army. Barely any men to spare.

Even if he did leave a few men, who will they be guarding it for when stannis is dead?

Have you been following GOT subtleties at all? Just to recap. Most of loyal Stannis' soldiers perished at the Blackwater. Majority of the forces he went up north with are sellswords (bought after Ser Davos got that loan from the Iron Bank of Braavos). You've been saying his men deserted him which is not 'totally' true. The sellsword part of his force deserted him (surprised? not really. That what sellswords do). To further illustrate the point. Go and watch the scene of the fight between Stannis and Ramsey again, you'd see clearly he had more than a thousand men in that fight (which happened after the desertion).

So yes. I still believe a war strategist like Stannis (reputed to be one of the finest commanders in Westeros) wouldn't have left Dragonstone unammned.

That's not totally correct.

His men deserted him, sells word included.

If you watch the battle, you can literally see solders deserting stannis army.

Exactly my thought. It would have made more sense to show a handful of men Stannis left to man the castle (captured and imprisoned by Dany's soldiers prior to her arrival). Considering the importance of Dragonstone to Kings landing (via the Blackwater), it makes no sense that it was empty.

Which one of stannis men? The ones that deserted him?

This actor doesn't parallel with his character from the book, or at least my image of how he should look. He actually seems relatively soft.

Nope it was only there to cameo Ed Sheeran.

There's no other hidden meaning to the scene. It really wasn't that deep.

Lol.

It humanised the lannister soldiers.

Arya hates anything lannister and was already planning to kill them but she later found out that they are just humans fighting someone else's war.

This is a little character dev on arya. Remember that she just killed a whole house of freys including innocents.

Also, Jon and sansa disagreement about punishing children for the sins of their fathers.

Dragonstone wasn't abandoned it was occupied by Stannis. So the fact that its still in good condition is because it was only just vacated recently when Stannis took all his forces and headed north.

Dany's guards did walked with her although they gave her space at times they were there non the less.

On why their stupidity was not punished well you have to ask the Lannisters. They knew she was coming, they(at least Jaime) knew where she would hit land when she arrived. So why didn't they send assassins?

I thought about this too but don't forget that game of thrones time lines are not concurrent.

It would have probably taken an assassin more time to get there than dany.

Also, an assassin won't really do any good against an army.

And lastly,

Well I believe that she was able to achieve this because Walder Frey is highly respected in the river run. All the men drank in jolly good faith as there was no need to suspect any danger or Ill-motive. They are on point here.

I disagree with you on this. Arya smiling wasn't because she enjoyed killing but rather that smile was like "finally I got you guys and avenged my family." Nothing wrong here.

I totally agree with you on this. How can a massive beautiful city like the dragonstone be left abandoned for years without anyone taking over? It doesn't make sense and for khaleesi to just stroll in unchallenged is just whacked. The producers messed up here big time.

Haba bros, where did you see this? grin
Danny was given only 6 minutes airplay and I didn't see anything wrong with her acting.

Spot on but there is nothing wrong with Arya and khaleesi acting.

This is what I have been saying since. Alot of people undermine little finger. Nobody knows his plan or motive. Who knows if he is playing Sansa once again to think that his primary motivation is getting her laid. That guy is just too mischievous with that his devilish grin grin

Finally, someone that gets what I have been saying all along.

Dragons tone hasn't been vacant for though.

Frey's not respected after the Red Wedding. Mass killing is okay if you avenge your family ?

It was only house frey that was present and walder as their head is respected in the family.

I think Arya's genocide of the Frey men was too easy. There should have been a couple of men who didn't take the drink for one reason or the other, and she should have had to fight them with some difficulty. She should not have been able to stroll away casually without any care in the world.

Also, smiling after killing people is not appropriate or normal unless Arya is a total sadist or psychopath like Ramsay, which is not consistent with her next scene with the Lannister soldiers. That's just terrible acting. Sophie Turner (Sansa) knew not to smile after killing Ramsay #GoodActor.

I thought Dany's takeover of Dragonstone was also too easy. How could such a valuable fortress have remained vacant decades after the Targaryans were defeated? How could it be in such good condition after decades of not being used? There was no payoff for the suspense we experienced when they were moving in. Also, why didn't the guards walk with Dany to protect her and why was their stupidity not punished, in GoT fashion?

Dany looked as if she was posing for the camera while experiencing neck pain and constipation in one of the her shots. Sigh. Acting lessons needed.

The scene with Cersei, Jaime and Euron was brilliant. I rewatched it a couple of times. The actors and everyone incvolved did a good job. I hope Emilia Clarke (Dany) and Maisie Williams (Arya) were taking notes. I love them, but their acting ...

I think Sansa thinks Littlefinger's primary motivation is that he wants her in his bed, and that may be a mistake. He is intentionally giving her that impression. Littlefinger wants power more than he wants to smash Ramsay's widow. She is only useful to him as a key to the north. She shouldn't forget what he did to her aunt.

Littlefinger wants power and if he marries sansa, he will be the warden of the north. Jon is a bastard so sansa has more claim than him.

But the thing is through out the series, LF has always adapted his plans when there are setbacks.

Sansa needs to be careful.

The meeting between Jon Snow and Daenerys will happen soon, because the weapons required to combat and kill the Army of the dead lies beneath dragonstone and Samwell Tarly will notify Jon about it.

But am afraid, i don't want Daenerys to suffer the same fate as Stannis who went to The Wall to help. Supporting Jon and choosing to fight the Walkers will hurt Daenerys.

The best thing for her is to focus on defeating Cersei and establishing her authority over Westeroos.

rationalmind:
The nature of my work is one that involves a lot of travel. As a result, I spend more nights in hotels than I spend in my own house.

Roughly three weeks ago, I checked into a hotel in Owerri. I recall sleeping as soon as i took my shower as I was stressed. Around 3 am, heat woke me from sleep. I noticed the A.C had gone off, the bulb wasn't coming up when I turned the switch, there was no power supply in the room. I knew I had to do something as therea no way I'll be able to sleep with the heat.

I called the reception through the intercom and no one picked. I stepped out of the room trying to find my way to the reception so as to lodge a complaint. I met a lady who was half dressed. I asked if there was power supply in her room, she said no and immediately beckoned on me to please follow her to her room.

At first, I was scared and reluctant. On second thought, I felt there was nothing the lady could do to me so i followed her. When we got to the room, the guy she lodged with had a seizure, seems it was epilepsy.

She told me to please help her lift him on the bed. Lift wetin, I said to myself. At that moment, I wasn't sure if it was contagious and I wasn't ready to take chances so I told her to calm down. I explained to her he'll regain consciousness in a matter of minutes.

I went back to my room and forgot about the power outage that took me out in the first place.

I couldn't sleep any longer. Several thoughts crept into my mind. What if he had died and it wasn't a seizure, how is she going to explain it?

I wanted to share on nairaland but i've been on marathon work since then. Glad I eventually found time to share as I hope this piece will one day save someone.

Mods should please move to the appropriate section of in the wrong one.

So, you thought seizures were contagious? And you declined to help which could have killed the guy?

May God not let us come across Imbecil3s when we are in need of help in Jesus's name.
