Politics / A Call To Action: Can Nigerians Vote Out President BAT In 2027? By Michael Idoko by GlobaluenceNews(f): 7:18pm On Nov 06 |
A Call to Action: Can Nigerians Vote Out President BAT in 2027? By Michael Samuel Idoko The recent US election has sparked an interesting debate in Nigeria, with many wondering if the country's citizens can similarly vote out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) in 2027. The answer, many believe, lies in a potential alliance between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. If Peter Obi agrees to run as Atiku Abubakar's deputy, it could be a game-changer for the 2027 election. This powerful alliance would send a strong message of unity and cooperation, inspiring confidence among voters ¹. Atiku Abubakar's experience and leadership would steady the ship, paving the way for Peter Obi to take over and build on the progress made. The US election has shown that voters can effect change through the ballot box, and Nigerians can do the same. However, it's crucial to recognize the complexities of Nigeria's political landscape. The country's diverse regional interests, ethnic dynamics, and economic concerns will play a significant role in determining the outcome of the 2027 election. The 2024 US presidential election has demonstrated the importance of grassroots mobilization and policy-driven campaigns. Nigerian politicians would do well to take a page from this playbook, focusing on issue-based campaigns rather than ethnic or regional divisions ². Peter Obi's leadership and vision have made him a popular figure among Nigerians. His potential candidacy as Atiku Abubakar's deputy would bring a unique set of skills and perspectives to the table. With Atiku Abubakar at the helm for eight years, stabilizing the nation, Peter Obi would be well-positioned to take over and build on the progress made. While the 2027 election is still years away, it's essential for Nigerians to begin thinking critically about their choices. The alliance between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi offers a promising path forward, but it will require careful strategy and coordination. As Nigerians look to the future, the US election serves as a reminder that democratic change is possible. With the right leadership and vision, the country can overcome its challenges and build a brighter future for all.

One Year Anniversary: Senator Natasha commissions legacy projects to mark one year in office Lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Natasha H Akpoti -Uduaghan, marked her one year in office on Saturday, by distributing empowerment materials and launching some projects across the district. The lawmaker was joined by her colleagues from the Senate to commemorate the historic event. First was the commissioning of the 1km road network at the Abdul Azeez Atta Memorial College Okene by the senate Minority Leader Distinguished Senator Abba Moro. Senator Tahir Monguno followed by commissioning the reconstruction and remodeling of the Abdul Aziz Atta Memorial College in Okene. There are 9 blocks of classrooms and 4 boarding houses; as well as unveiling the 5,000 digital learning devices marked the event. The anniversary also included the inauguration of the reconstructed Ihima Police Station, which was officiated by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Betrand Onuoha. Additionally, an empowerment programme was launched by Senator Abba Moro. The Deputy Senate President, represented by Senator Ladan, spoke about Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan's first year in office, describing her representation as effective, and praised her efforts to significantly impact her constituents. “She invited us to see firsthand how she is improving the lives of her constituents in Kogi Central. What makes Senator Natasha unique is her passion for humanitarian service, which seems to be part of her genetic makeup, as her family has a history of giving,” he stated. On his part, Senate Chief Whip Senator Tahir Monguno emphasised the importance of education in a country's development, commending Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s initiative to digitalise learning in Kogi Central. Senator Abba Moro also praised the legacy projects and applauded his colleague for her exceptional performance. “We have toured various projects aimed at improving the lives of the people, particularly concerning security. All of us here, the senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, are proud to support our colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Her achievements in just one year of service are remarkable. “I am astonished by the amount of support gathered here for distribution. It’s evident that this is the kind of representation we need, and I am very pleased that she is delivering.” Speaking at the programme, Senator Natasha reflected on her past year in office, describing it as eventful with many of her campaign promises fulfilled. "This past year has been a journey of commitment, challenges, and, above all, unwavering dedication to the well-being of our people and the development of our senatorial district. When I took on this responsibility, my vision was clear: to create a senatorial district of our dreams, where every child has the opportunity to learn, every young person has access to meaningful employment, and every family can access basic amenities such as clean water and electricity. "I am honoured by the trust you have placed in me, and I am here today to reaffirm my commitment to delivering a future that reflects our shared hopes and aspirations. A cornerstone of this vision has been the digitalisation of education. We have deployed 5,000 digital learning devices to public primary and secondary schools across Kogi Central. In the coming weeks, the Universal Basic Education Learning Resource Centre will train teachers and programme these devices with the Nigerian educational curriculum. "Furthermore, we believe that education is the foundation of a prosperous society. We are beginning the total overhaul of selected existing schools, such as the Abdul Aziz Attah Memorial College (AAAMCO) in Okene. We will also construct a brand-new model primary and secondary school in Osara and facilitate a centre for artificial intelligence and robotics at the Federal College of Education in Okene, as well as an automotive mechatronics workshop and cottage automobile workshop at the Technical College in Oboroke. Both projects are currently undergoing the BPP contracting process, and construction is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025," she stated. She continued, “Moreover, a scholarship scheme through the Natasha Foundation has supported the tuition of 353 vulnerable Indigenous students at tertiary institutions nationwide. Equally, we have worked tirelessly to attract employment opportunities for various graduates and facilitate capacity-building training and empowerment programs for thousands of beneficiaries from our senatorial district. “Today, we are launching a massive empowerment initiative for over 1,300 artisans, focusing on our women and youth. They have been trained and will be empowered to earn a living in areas such as renewable energy installations, fashion and shoe making, block and tile making, fish farming, advanced welding and carpentry, hairdressing, and catering. You can see for yourself what we have accomplished. They have been supported with startup grants. These efforts will provide a solid foundation for families and, in turn, communities. I am also deeply committed to addressing essential needs, such as access to clean water. Through our numerous water projects, we have brought a reliable supply of potable water to many communities, transforming what was once a challenge into a sustainable reality. Out of the 12 water projects, we developed a massive 50,000-liter solar-powered motorised water system, which serves 300 locations and provides 1,800 fetching taps. “The electricity projects that have been executed throughout our senatorial district, just within one year of my being in office, have illuminated homes and streets, making our communities safer and more supportive of local businesses. Proudly, 30 kilometres of road networks across Kogi Central are now lit, providing better visibility and enhanced safety for both residents and travelers, especially at night." She further added; “The Ihima community had been without a police station for seven years, and I am honored to have my office facilitate the reconstruction and expansion of our community police station, which we commissioned today. If health is wealth, communities should not be impoverished by the lack of effective and responsive Primary Health Care Centers. I am grateful that my office attracted the rehabilitation of two primary healthcare facilities—the Primary Health Care Center in Ohueta and the one in Osara. Construction is set to commence within two weeks. “A series of medical outreach programmes have been scheduled for next week in Ajaokuta and Okehi local governments. Similarly, I have proposed and sponsored several bills and motions that are not only nationalistic but essential for repositioning Kogi Central and Kogi State as an industrial hub. This, in turn, will create jobs for our youth and generate revenue for our beloved country. “The legislative assembly, under the guidance of the Senate President, His Excellency Godswill Akpabio, and the executive, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have formed a strong political alliance. We are ensuring that not only will the Ajaokuta Steel Company function, but that the National Iron Ore Mining Company’s mandate will be expanded to harness the abundant natural resources lying untapped in our region. “To the leadership of the Senate and my colleagues present, the hills surrounding us are rich in natural minerals, from gold to amethyst and iron ore, among others. I hope that in the coming months, you will join forces with me to ensure these minerals are tapped for the benefit of our country. The Gold Reserve Bill and the establishment bill for the Federal Medical Center in Ihima are legislative efforts aimed at transforming the industrial landscape of our state to meet the welfare and health needs of our people and to widen employment opportunities". “I am grateful for the productive leadership I have developed with the President himself, His Excellency President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the First Lady, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Senate President, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio. I am immensely grateful to them all. This collaborative approach has helped us access new opportunities and resources, bringing about greater development and democratic dividends for our people. “There is still much work to be done, and I am committed to continuously learning and striving for improvement. I will work for you with the same energy, passion, and dedication that you deserve. Thank you for your unwavering support,” she concluded. Dignitaries at the event include representatives of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Musa Ladan, Senate Chief Whip, Senator Tahir Monguno, Senate Minority leader, Senator Abba Moro, Senator Ede Dafinone, Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Tony Nwoye, Senator Ekong Sampson, Senator Anthony Yaro, as well as Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi. Politics / Concerned Edo Youths Forum Cries Out .....save Our Democracy Today by GlobaluenceNews(f): 10:50am On Jul 22 |
CONCERNED EDO YOUTHS FORUM CRIES OUT .....SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY TODAY I am Honorable Joel Osese, president of the CONCERNED EDO YOUTHS FORUM, writing on behalf of myself, our forum members, and all Edo youths. This is an SOS to the Presidency, National Assembly, Judiciary, INEC, and other relevant agencies. As we prepare for our off-cycle election in September, the people of Edo are closely watching the developments in Kogi State’s court proceedings. Initially, we were excited about the introduction of BVAS for the upcoming election. However, recent events have shaken our confidence in INEC and the Judiciary. In Kogi State, the Petitioners accused INEC and ODODO & 1 OR of over-voting. The tribunal ordered INEC to present the BVAS machines from the disputed areas and display their contents in court. The INEC staff’s demonstration confirmed the over-voting allegations. It is disgraceful that INEC, after introducing BVAS, would oppose their own machines’ evidence in court and deny their staff’s display. The tribunal expunged the BVAS data, and the Appeal Court upheld this flawed judgment. Despite this, we remain hopeful that the Supreme Court will deliver justice in Kogi State, as they did in Kano and Plateau. If justice is served, our faith in the electoral process will be restored. We urge Mr. President, the National Assembly, and the Judiciary to protect our fragile democracy. Given the current economic instability, any injustice could spark violent demonstrations, leading to national unrest. Our plea to INEC: – Ensure BVAS machines are used correctly. – Confirm total accredited voters before announcing results. – Nullify results where total votes exceed accredited voters. – Do not undermine BVAS with contradictory legal arguments. If INEC ignores our plea, they should not bother bringing BVAS machines to Edo State at all! If the Supreme Court upholds the flawed Judgments which i think is highly unlikely, any BVAS machine seen in Edo state or any other state for that matter will be destroyed. God Bless Nigeria, Amen Comrade Joel Osese, President of the Concerned Edo Youths Forum |

Politics / Alleged N80B Fraud: EFCC Raises Contempt Charges Against Yahaya Bello’s Counsel by GlobaluenceNews(f): 10:06pm On Jun 27 |
Alleged N80.2bn Fraud: EFCC Raises Contempt Charges against Yahaya Bello’s Counsel The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has raised contempt charges against two defence counsel in the N80.2billion alleged money laundering charges against a former governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello. Bello is facing prosecution alongside his nephew, Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman and Abdulsalam Hudu on 19-count charges bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80,246,470,089.88k( Eighty Billion, Two Hundred and Forty Six Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Eighty-Nine Naira and Eighty- eight Kobo). At the resumed hearing of the matter on Thursday, June 27, 2024, EFCC’s lead counsel, Kemi Pinhero, SAN, prayed the court to exercise disciplinary actions against Abdulwahab Mohammed, SAN and Adeola Adedipe, SAN for reneging on their undertaking to produce the former governor for arraignment. “My application is to invite them and show cause why my Lordship will not deal with them for professional misconduct. My Lord, since Adedipe is here, my Lord should deal with him to remove him from the inner bar and deal with him summarily in the dock. It is a serious responsibility. Our rules of professional conduct 2023, rule 32 sub 33 states that, ‘a lawyer who fails to comply with any undertaking by him either personally or to his client, aside from being in contempt of court, is prima facie guilty of professional misconduct”, he said. He prayed the court to hold the two counsel for contempt to serve as a lesson to other lawyers Mohammed and Adedipe had at different times taken an undertaking to produce the suspect in court without any success. At Thursday’s proceedings, Adedipe informed the court of a letter allegedly written to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court requesting the matter to be transferred to the Lokoja Judicial Division, stressing that there was need for the matter to have a territorial jurisdiction. “My Lord, a letter has been written on behalf of the defendant to the Honourable Chief judge of the Federal High Court requesting in substance that this matter be administratively transferred to the Federal High Court Lokoja judicial division, because there is need to have territorial jurisdiction, and the letter was received by the Chief Judge office”, he said. However, Pinhero insisted that the matter of the day was for the defence to tell the court why their client refused to appear in court, after making an undertaking at different instances to produce him. “My Lord has ordered Abiola Adedipe SAN and Abdulwahab Mohammed SAN the opportunity to produce the defendant for arraignment today, but he has chosen to avoid responding to that. That undertaking was made by him on the 13th of June, the letter to the Chief Judge was dated and delivered on the 10th, and delivered 13th of June, 2024, so the letter pre-dated the undertaking” he said. Pinhero submitted that the letter to the Chief Judge was already in court, and was aware of the letter before making an undertaking. “My Lord, the letter to the Chief Judge does not discharge the undertaking made in this judicial proceeding, nor does the Chief Judge discharge the proceedings. That letter does not discharge the undertaking”, he said. He stressed that Justice Emeka Nwite still retained the power of the proceedings and no contrary claim should be entertained by him. He prayed the court to exercise disciplinary actions against Mohammed and Adedipe for reneging on their undertaking to produce the former governor for arraignment. In his further reaction, Adedipe applied to withdraw his legal services to the defendant, but Pinheiro insisted that he cannot withdraw his services after he joined issues with the prosecution. He further argued that Adedipe should have done that from the beginning but refused. “My Lord, we have gone to a point where they can't withdraw. The undertaking is on record, and I also undertook that because of their undertaking that day, we withdrew our undertaking of arrest to the suspect. My Lord should hold them to that, it is an issue of contempt, and if they are withdrawing their services, let them come before my Lord and do so” he said. Justice Nwite, after listening to the submissions of all the counsels, adjourned the matter to July 17, 2024 for ruling on the contempt charges and arraignment of the former governor. Credit: EFCC

Kogi N80 Billion Fraud: Northern Group Urges Tinubu to Curb Ododo’s Sabotage of EFCC Efforts The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to rein in Governor Usman Ododo, who is allegedly shielding fugitive Yahaya Bello and undermining the anti-corruption war. In a statement signed by spokesperson Ibrahim Dan-Musa, NEYGA accused Ododo of using his immunity to protect Bello, who has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to the group, Ododo has been driving Bello around, including to Abuja, where they are lobbying influential figures to intervene on his behalf. NEYGA condemned Ododo’s actions as a slap in the face of President Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts and warned that if left unchecked, it would set a dangerous precedent. The group urged the EFCC not to be frustrated by Bello’s attempts to wield public opinion in his favor, despite his alleged massive looting of state resources. NEYGA emphasized the need for Bello to answer for his crimes, including the abduction of individuals during his tenure as governor. The group called on the nation to stand firm against corruption and not yield to blackmail. “We must not allow corruption to fight back and undermine our collective efforts to build a just and equitable society,” the statement read. “We urge President Tinubu to take decisive action and curb Ododo’s sabotage of the EFCC’s efforts to bring Yahaya Bello to justice.” NEYGA also called on the people of Kogi State to reject politicians who prioritize personal interests over the welfare of the citizens. The group urged the residents to demand accountability and transparency from their leaders, and not to be swayed by empty promises and political manipulation. In conclusion, NEYGA reiterated its support for the EFCC and its commitment to fighting corruption at all levels. The group vowed to continue monitoring the situation in Kogi State and holding those responsible for corruption accountable. The statement ended with a call for unity and solidarity in the fight against corruption, emphasizing that only by working together can the nation overcome this scourge and build a better future for all.

Politics / Group Demands Justice Over Forgery Scandal At CBN, Wants Odoh Ocheme Repatriated by GlobaluenceNews(f): 8:14pm On Jun 15 |
CBN HEIST: Civil Society Group Demands Justice Over Forgery Scandal at CBN, Wants Odoh Eric Ocheme Repatriated. A civil society group has condemned the recent forgery scandal at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), describing it as “unacceptable” and “a grave betrayal of public trust.” In a statement signed by Emmanuel John, the group expressed outrage over the forgery of President Mohammed Buhari signature, which it described as “the highest fraud ever in Nigeria said “Former President Buhari’s signature was forged in which $6.2 million dollars CASH was withdrawn from CBN account ,, he and some of the staff of the CBN colluded … along with Emefele, while Emefiele is being prosecuted, ERIC ODOH OCHEME and some of the CBN staff that participated in the scam are no where to be found, Eric is suspected to be hiding in Canada”. “We are shocked and appalled that such a brazen act of fraud could occur at the very heart of our financial system,” the statement read. “That the then President and Commander-in-Chief’s signature could be so callously forged is a slap in the face to the Nigerian people and a clear indication of the rampant corruption that plagues our institutions.” The group demanded immediate action from the government to bring those responsible to justice and to address the systemic failures that allowed the fraud to occur. “We call on the government to take swift and decisive action to investigate this scandal and bring all those involved to book,” the statement continued. “We also demand a comprehensive overhaul of the CBN and other relevant institutions to ensure that such a fraud can never happen again.” The group warned that failure to take action would undermine trust in the government and the financial system, and would have far-reaching consequences for the country’s economic stability. This request follows an order by Justice I.E. Ekwo, issued on January 18th, 2024, for the warrants of arrest of the suspects. The Federal Government has also filed a six-count extradition charge against the three suspects, who are alleged to be on the run. In a letter dated February 12th, 2024, addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in the National Central Bureau of INTERPOL in Abuja, Obazee requested the organization to watch-list and place the suspects on Red Notice. The letter, signed by the Head of Operations, Office of the Special Investigator, DCP Eloho Okpoziakpo, stated that the suspects were involved in a case of conspiracy and fraud. According to the letter, the Special Investigator, appointed by the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, discovered that Mr. Odoh Eric Ocheme, a staff member of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and his two accomplices, now at large, conspired and forged documents in the name of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and stole approximately $6,230,000 from the CBN. Consequently, a charge was filed, and warrants of arrest were issued by the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja Division, presided over by Hon. Justice I.E. Ekwo, in Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/19/2024. The Special Investigator requested INTERPOL to apprehend and repatriate the defendants from any member state to which they may have fled. John Urah Ikani, has this morning debunked the stories making the rounds that he masterminded the abrupt sales of properties belonging to the Dekina local government. John Urah Ikani, during a podcast with correspondence from Naija Reality News, gave exclusive insight into the story that appears to be misleading the members of the public. Hon. John Urah Ikani was quoted as saying that the current happenings are a pure attempt to truncate my quest to emit the dividends of democratic governance to my people. Politics / Kano Emir Tussle: Governor Ododo Advises Emir Sanusi To Obey Court Order by GlobaluenceNews(f): 1:29pm On May 30 |
Kano Emir Tussle: Governor Ododo Advises Emir Sanusi to Obey Court Order As the dispute over the legitimate Emir of Kano rages on, the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has advised Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to obey the court order and vacate the throne for the rightful claimant, HRM Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. Recall that a new law repealing four emirates earlier created by the former Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano installed Sanusi as the 16th Emir of the state. The new law also abrogated the establishment of the five new emirates in the state and reverted to the former status of a single Emir in Kano, thereby removing all the current Emirs except for the central Emir of Kano. The controversy has however, taken a new turn, with conflicting court orders. While a Federal High Court in Kano ordered the authorities to recognize Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, a Kano State High Court restrained the police and other agencies from evicting Emir Sanusi. Speaking to journalists in Lokoja, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, urged Emir Sanusi to respect the rule of law and obey the court order by vacating the palace for Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. Fanwo lamented the disregard for the rule of law in the country, citing the case of the former governor of Kogi State, who is still being "victimized and harassed" by the EFCC despite a court order. He warned that the nation cannot have a stable and united country if the authorities continue to undermine the judicial system. The commissioner emphasized the importance of respecting court orders, even for a respected figure like Emir Sanusi, who has served the country in the past. His words viz; "We won't have a stable and united country if our system continues in its iniquitous way of trampling on the rule of law by undermining our judicial system. In Kogi State, it is unfortunate that we are also facing a similar situation, a disregard for the rule of law by an authority who is supposed to be an enforcer of the law. The EFCC has continued to victimised, harass our leader and former Governor, despite a court order and a clear position of the law on that matter. Yet, he is being victimised and harassed on the media, all sponsored by the EFCC. This is a similar event happening in Kano State. How will a revered and well respected man, who has served the country and managed our apex financial sector not understands the implications of violating court order? There was a court order stopping him before his installation, but of course, this is Nigeria, we legalize illegality; he concluded.
