Sports / Re: Should Amodu Shuaibu Be Sacked? by goldengoal(m): 5:23am On Apr 16, 2009 |
Friends, With what we saw in Maputo and how our Super Eagles(or do i say super chickens) played and fumbled against the Mambas of Mozambique in Maputo, do you actually think that Coach Amodu Shuiabu is competent/good enough to lead the eagles to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, especially going by the fact that Amodu was totally BEREFT of ideas in Maputo and didn't just know what to do. For me, I think he is not good enough. We need a better COACH. It is either we go for a good and expereinced foreign manager or a better local alternative. Only these three local coaches should in my own opinion be considered: Siasia, Keshi (even though he is with Mali, good money and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coach the Eagles will make him accept) and Onigbinde in that order. What do you think? |

Sports / Ladipo Commends Nff Over Siasia's Appointment. by goldengoal(m): 5:58pm On Mar 25, 2009 |
The President General of Nigerian Football and Other Sports Supporters Club (NFSSC), Dr Rauf Ladipo, has commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for appointing ex-international and Bejing Olympic silver winning coach, Samson Siasia as the coach of Under-20 national team. In an exclusive interview with Daily Sunsport in his Apapa office, Dr Ladipo said the appointment of Coach Siasia was to have a clear departure from what had been happening, even as he decleared that we needed success. “Siasia’s appointment means that we want a change; a clear departure from what has been happening in our football. We want success! he said. “You see, we are not saying win, win, win at all cost, but if your team play well and lose gallantly, then you will have rest of mind. “After all, when we were in China for the Beijing Olympics football final, we lost the match 0–1 to Argentina, but after the match, we were held hostage by fans of other teams, who were happy with our gallantry performance. For three hours, they kept on cheering us, dancing with us in the streets of Beijing. “They did that because our team played well in that competition. We didn’t win, but we were happy. That is all we want from Nigerian sides. “The NFF have done something right by appointing Siasia as the Flying Eagles coach. Let us give him the needed support to lead Eagles to Egypt,” Ladipo added. |

Sports / Police Restrict Nff Sec. Gen's Movement Over Missing Eagles Money! by goldengoal(m): 5:35pm On Mar 25, 2009 |
Following Theft Of N35m From NFF Secretariat The Police in the Federal Capital, Abuja have restricted the movement of Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Bolaji Ojo Oba to Abuja in a bid to ensure hitch free investigations into the alleged theft of 200,000 US dollars from the football house secretariat accounts office. Sports / Alloy Agu: We’re Ready For Mozambique! by goldengoal(m): 5:32pm On Mar 25, 2009 |
Super Eagles Assistant Coach Alloy Agu Speaks Ahead Sunday’s Game What Is Your Expectation Like From The Players? Well, we have been doing the normal thing which we think will help us to realise our dreams just the way we did to win all our matches during the first phase. So, Nigerians should expect the team to pick the maximum points in Maputo. By the special grace of God, we shall win the match and that is what we are looking forward to. Have You Ruled Out Yobo From The Match? I cannot say that until Monday or perhaps Tuesday when we have a full squad in camp to assess the players well. But for now, I don’t want to rule anyone out of the tie. For Yobo, there are capable replacements in that department but we are hoping he will be back in the team very soon. Are You Not Scared With The Performance Of The Mambas In The First Phase Of Qualifiers? No, there is nothing like scare. All we want to do is to prepare well and expect a good result. If we have the full compliment of our players, we are promising victory and we shall surpass our previous achievements. We know the importance of these matches, so we can’t afford to drop any point in any of the matches. Sierria Leone never lost a game on their home soil, when we went there, we showed the quality the team is blessed with by picking the maximum points there in FreeTown, so it is possible to win in Maputo. We are not looking down on them but we are going there to get the maximum points in Maputo. Which Of The Goalkeepers Will You Prefer To Start The Match? The four goalies invited are all qualified to man the post but we have to wait to receive them all in camp and thereafter choose who will be in goal on Sunday. They are all quality goalkeepers but only one will be in goal at a time. Why didn’t you consider any home based player for the match? We have some players we are monitoring but I want you to understand that this is a crucial match and we need to approach it with the players we are already used to. We also have plans to try some of these players in some of the friendly games we are going to play. |
Sports / Mourinho Denies Mikel! by goldengoal(m): 5:29pm On Mar 25, 2009 |
Insists On Inter Milan Stay Jose Mourinho insists he has no intention of walking out on Inter Milan just as he has refuted reports that Super Eagles midfielder,Mikel Obi is on his shopping list for next season. ‘’I never made a list of names, like the papers say.I presented a project,a philosophy. And I didn’t need to convince anyone. To Moratti I expressed a shared opinion.” Speculation about the Special One’s future has intensified since Inter were dumped out of the Champions League by Manchester United. But Mourinho has revealed he is under no pressure from club president Massimo Moratti to win the biggest prize in European football. He said: “I have two years left on my contract. “Moratti didn’t tell me I had to win the Champions League in my first, second or third year. “He told me he wanted to build a team, which I said would take three years. “He trusts me completely. He may be able to appoint a better coach than me but he will not find anyone who works harder. “To make sure Inter compete in Europe, we need to make changes. “We have two or three young players with massive potential and they will be superb in two or three years. “We have great stability in the squad.” |
Sports / Kanu Rallies Eagles To Go All The Way! by goldengoal(m): 5:26pm On Mar 25, 2009 |
Skipper Nwankwo Kanu arrived along with five others on Tuesday afternoon, but insisted that the new arrivals must join the rest at training in the evening. Earlier, Media Officer Idah peterside had told KickOffNigeria.com that the new arrivals would have a well deserved rest to recover from their jetlag, but Kanu surprisingly showed up when the bus was about to leave for training, less than one hour after he and his posse arrived. "There are only six players who are going for training and that will not be good. Even if those of us who have just arrived only get to jog around with the others, it will be good for the team," Kanu told KickOffNigeria.com as he called on the others to come down and join the bus. "We are here to prepare well so that we can win, and if we have to sacrifice a few hours rest, we can always get it back when we get back at night. Its for the good of the country. "And the fans will also be at the stadium to see us, it will not be good to disappoint them," Kanu stated. The full 12 players eventually trained at the artificial turf at Thumalahashe, with Kanu and his fellow new arrivals doing only light work. |
