Nairaland / General / Call Of Duty: Warzone Mobile Now Available by GoodyNewsHub: 1:44pm On Mar 23
Activision has released the highly anticipated first-person shooter game, "Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile," which is now accessible on both Android and iOS platforms. This launch comes four years after the introduction of the original Warzone game by the studio.

Players should ensure they have approximately 8GB of free space on Android devices and 10GB on iOS devices before downloading and playing the game.

However, additional storage may be required as developers introduce new content over time.

In contrast to "Call of Duty: Mobile," "Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile" supports cross-progression, allowing players to link their existing COD account to unlock in-game rewards across all platforms.

This includes synchronization of weapons, blueprints, skins, cosmetics, friend lists, chat channels, and Battle Pass progression across PC, console, and mobile platforms.

The game currently offers four modes: Battle Royale, Rebirth Resurgence, Mobile Royale, and Most Pit. While the first three are battle royale modes, the last one is a multiplayer mode.

"Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile" features two iconic maps – Verdansk and Rebirth Island.

The Battle Royale and Mobile Royale modes take place in Verdansk with player capacities of 120 and 78 players, respectively, while Rebirth Resurgence involves nine squads of four players each on the action-packed Rebirth Island.

Additionally, the game includes popular multiplayer maps such as Shipment, Shoot House, and Scrapyard.

As part of the festive offerings, "Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile" will host mobile-exclusive events, starting with Operation: Day Zero, scheduled to begin tomorrow, offering players the opportunity to earn EP and individual rewards.

While the gameplay mechanics are similar to the console and PC versions of Call of Duty: Warzone, the mobile game boasts smooth controls akin to "Call of Duty: Mobile."

Players can adjust visual settings from minimum to peak, with visual fidelity improving with playtime. The game also supports uncapped FPS for high-end phones, adjustable field of view, custom loadouts, and weapon upgrades, similar to its predecessor, "Call of Duty: Mobile."

System requirements for "Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile" include iOS 16 and above for iPhone 8 or later, and Android devices must have a minimum of 4GB RAM and Adreno 618 or newer GPU.

These requirements are relatively modest, making the game accessible to most smartphones launched in 2019 or later, albeit potentially on lower settings.

Nairaland / General / Court Orders Binance To Release Data Of Nigerian Users To EFCC by GoodyNewsHub: 7:21pm On Mar 18
A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed Binance Holdings Limited to furnish the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with detailed information regarding Nigerian users trading on its platform.

The court issued this order following an ex-parte motion filed by the EFCC, seeking information on Nigerians engaged in trading activities on Binance.

The lawsuit, identified as FHC/ABJ/CS/259/2024 and dated February 29, was filed by the anti-graft agency under Sections 6(b), (h), (I), 7(1), (a)(2), and 38 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Establishment Act, 2004, and Section 15 of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022 (as amended).

In an affidavit supporting the motion, an EFCC operative named Hamma Bello stated that the commission's Special Investigation Team, situated in the Office of the National Security Adviser, received intelligence indicating money laundering and terrorism financing activities on Binance.

The team initiated an investigation by monitoring the platform's activities and discovered users involved in price manipulation, causing significant market distortions that devalued the Naira against other currencies.

Bello noted that Binance's actions had negatively impacted the country's currency value. The EFCC communicated these findings to Binance, requesting the delisting of the Naira and disclosure of Nigerian users' activities.

Binance's data revealed that Nigerian trading volume in 2023 amounted to $21.6 billion, as evidenced in Exhibit EFCC 1.

The court ruling, issued on February 29 and reviewed by journalists on Monday, granted the EFCC's request for comprehensive data on Nigerian traders using Binance.

Binance is an online cryptocurrency exchange platform. The Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, disclosed at a press briefing that over $26 billion had flowed through Binance without trace in the past year.

Financial Times reported on February 28 that two Binance executives were detained upon arrival in Nigeria due to a website ban.

On March 12, 2024, the EFCC requested data on Binance's top 100 Nigerian users and six months of transaction history, marking a focal point in negotiations between Binance and Nigeria.

Crime / The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Has Set Up A Task Force Aime by GoodyNewsHub: 12:07am On Feb 20
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has set up a task force aimed at addressing the issues of illegal forex trading and misuse of the Nigerian currency, the naira.

This move comes amidst the ongoing decline of the naira's value against the US dollar. Data from the financial market infrastructure group FMDQ indicates that the naira fell to N1,537.96 per US dollar on Friday from N1,498.25 on Thursday.

Previously, the EFCC has made arrests related to illegal forex trading and misuse of the naira. In December 2022, the commission apprehended 87 forex dealers across locations such as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Lagos, and Kano. During these operations, EFCC investigators searched the dealers' premises for hoarded dollars and naira.

Additionally, in February, the EFCC successfully prosecuted and sentenced a Nigerian actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, to six months in prison for spraying and stepping on Naira notes. The sentencing included an option of paying a fine of N300,000 into the federal government's consolidated revenue account.

To further address these crimes, the EFCC has urged the public to report instances of illegal forex trading and naira abuse. Contact numbers have been provided for the EFCC's task force.

Meanwhile, the Olu of Owode in Obafemi/Owode Local Government of Ogun State, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo, has confirmed his suspension for two months without pay by the Egba Traditional Council. This suspension follows allegations of naira abuse. The Oba acknowledged his wrongdoing and accepted the council's decision during a meeting where the suspension was announced. The incident leading to his suspension involved the Oba decorating the popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, with knitted new N1000 notes in a viral video from early January.

Politics / Reps Want Awareness On Negative Impact Of Sports Betting by GoodyNewsHub: 9:37am On Feb 17
President Bola Tinubu, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, convened a gathering with the 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The meeting, which took place at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, was prompted by concerns over the escalating prices of food items, insecurity, and the outstanding salaries and gratuities owed to workers, retirees, and pensioners.

According to a tweet by Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, as well as a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the meeting aimed to address these pressing issues and reach consensus on the way forward.

Here are the key highlights from the meeting:

In addressing the security challenges impacting farming and food production, President Tinubu made three significant announcements. He indicated that the Federal Government would collaborate with the governors and the National Assembly to establish a framework for state police instead of relying solely on vigilantes. Moreover, he urged governors to bolster their Forest Rangers and equip them to safeguard forests from criminal activities. The specifics of implementing state police and enhancing security measures will be further discussed at the National Economic Council.

To tackle the rising cost of food, the President instructed both state and federal governments to work together to boost local food production. He emphasized the importance of discouraging food importation and price control in favor of incentivizing local producers to increase output.

President Tinubu encouraged governors to emulate Kano State's approach to combating the hoarding of food items for profit by traders. He directed law enforcement agencies to monitor warehouses across the country and prevent profiteering by merchants.

Governors were tasked with prioritizing livestock development in their states, with a focus on increasing production, particularly in poultry and fishing.

The President urged governors to prioritize clearing all outstanding salary arrears and gratuities for workers and pensioners. This action aims to inject money into the economy and improve the financial well-being of citizens.

President Tinubu appealed to governors to create more economic opportunities for youth in their respective states, thereby keeping them engaged in productive endeavors.

Politics / Kano Traders Slash Prices Of Goods by GoodyNewsHub: 9:03am On Feb 17
Traders dealing in essential goods in Kano State have announced their intention to decrease prices of their merchandise. This decision was revealed by the Chairman of the traders, Ibrahim Danyaro, during a press briefing following a meeting with the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, as reported by The Vanguard.

This move comes in the wake of the seizure of 10 warehouses containing hoarded assorted food items in the state by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission. Muhyi Magaji, the chairman of the commission, stated that the owners of these warehouses were absent during the operation, but those that were accessible were found stocked with items such as spaghetti, rice, pasta, sugar, and other food products.

Danyaro emphasized that the traders are currently selling their goods in the market at prices below those set by the companies. He attributed this decision to public outcry over the escalating prices of essential goods and the overall high cost of living in the country.

Furthermore, Danyaro pledged the traders' support to the commission in identifying and penalizing those responsible for unjustifiably inflating prices and hoarding goods.

He stated, "We distance ourselves from hoarding and have presented evidence to the commission, convincing them of our innocence. The price hikes observed in the market are not arbitrary actions by our members but are imposed by the companies. We have proposed measures to address this situation, including holding discussions with the manufacturers to ascertain the reasons for price inflation."

Danyaro also assured cooperation with the commission to lower commodity prices and alleviate the burden on consumers, although this can only be achieved with the existing stock. He highlighted that the current market prices are below those set by the companies.

Another market leader, Hamisu Rabi'u, reassured residents that existing stock would be sold at previous prices despite the increasing market rates. He provided examples of price disparities between market and company prices for various goods, underscoring the traders' commitment to preventing price hikes beyond the reach of the populace.

The Reason we allocated N13bn to SSG’s office – Plateau

The Plateau State Budget and Economic Planning Commissioner, Chrysanthus Dawam, has justified the distribution of funds in the state's 2024 budget across different sectors. Notably, the budget includes N13 billion for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and a comparatively modest N100 million for the Ministry of Tourism and its agencies, which received the smallest allocation.

During a press meeting in Jos, Dawam detailed the budgetary allocations, highlighting N8.6 billion for the Government House and N10.14 billion for the legislative sector.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang approved the N314.8 billion budget for 2024 in December 2023, following its passage by the state legislature. The budget comprises N162 billion for recurrent expenses and N152 billion for capital expenditures.

Dawam remarked, “A modest amount of 100 million has been set aside for the Ministry of Tourism, which accounts for only 0.07% of the total budget, aimed at boosting tourism in the state."

He also mentioned that while the exact amount for security isn't specified due to its classified nature, the government's focus is on tackling the state's security issues and enhancing infrastructure and human capital within the limits of available resources.

Peter Lamba, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget, explained that the significant funding for the Secretary to the Government's Office is due to its role in coordinating numerous activities, including addressing the state's security challenges.

The budget breakdown further reveals significant allocations to various sectors: N12.04 billion to agriculture and rural development, N134.6 million to commerce and industry, N1.1 billion to information and communications, N7.02 billion to land and justice, N772 million to science and technology, N335.5 million to land and survey, N9.9 billion to housing and urban development, N10.4 billion to education, N5.4 billion to health, N15.3 billion to works and transport, and N1.3 billion to the women, youths, and sports sector.

Politics / APC Borno Election by GoodyNewsHub: 11:25pm On Jan 25
In a remarkable display of political dominance, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the recent council polls held in Borno State. This sweeping win underlines the party's strong influence in the region and sets a new precedent in the state's political arena. The election, noted for its high voter turnout, marks a significant moment in Borno’s local governance landscape.

Background of Borno State Council Polls
Borno State, known for its strategic importance in Nigeria's northeastern region, has a rich political history. The council polls, crucial for determining local governance, are a testament to the state's democratic values. Historically, these polls have been a battleground for various political entities, with the APC and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) being key players.

However, this election cycle witnessed a significant shift in dynamics, as the APC secured a resounding victory, a contrast to the more balanced outcomes seen in previous years. This change reflects evolving political sentiments in Borno, where governance and security have been pivotal issues.

Details of the Election Results
In an unprecedented outcome, the APC clinched all chairmanship positions across the 27 Local Government Areas of Borno State. Furthermore, they secured victory in all councillorship seats, indicating a comprehensive endorsement from the electorate.

This result is a stark deviation from past elections, where opposition parties like the PDP had a notable presence. The APC’s clean sweep in these elections is indicative of the party’s growing influence and acceptance among the local populace. It also highlights the diminishing foothold of opposition parties in the state, raising questions about the competitive nature of future elections.

Reactions to the Election Results
The victory of the APC has elicited mixed reactions. Party leaders and supporters celebrated this triumph as a validation of their policies and governance. In contrast, opposition parties expressed concerns over the fairness of the electoral process.

Independent observers noted the peaceful conduct of the polls but pointed to areas needing improvement in the electoral system. Local citizens expressed hope that this decisive win would translate into effective governance, especially in addressing the challenges of security and economic development in the state.

Implications for Borno State
The overwhelming victory of the APC in Borno’s local council elections carries significant implications. It consolidates the party’s political power, potentially leading to streamlined decision-making and policy implementation.

However, the absence of a strong opposition could pose risks to the democratic process, including potential complacency and unchecked governance. It is crucial for the APC to utilize this mandate responsibly, focusing on inclusive development, security, and improving the lives of the people in Borno State.

Future Expectations and Challenges

With the APC at the helm of local governance in Borno State, expectations are high. The party is anticipated to prioritize the state's pressing issues, such as security challenges due to insurgency, economic development, and infrastructure improvement. The electorate will be looking for tangible progress in these areas. However, the APC faces significant challenges.

They must navigate complex security issues, manage internal party dynamics, and meet the high expectations of the populace. The effectiveness of their governance in the coming years will be closely watched, both by their supporters and critics alike.
