Food / Re: Which Is More Nutritious, Pap Or Custard? by Graced2018: 2:33pm On Aug 25, 2020
Pap over custard!

This does not require further debate. It's worthy to mention that it is not only the Fresh Pap that is highly nutritious and light as part of a daily addition to your diet, but also the fermented water from its production which aids easy digestion and helps in probiotics growth in the body

Great for the guts and a lot of our older clients request this in a different container.

Dear Mummy-Who-Is-Exclusively-Breastfeeding,

Eating TOO light could affect the quality of milk you are producing.

The idea is to balance your fore milk and hind milk and if you eat too light or incorporate some fancy diet too soon, it may affect the quality of milk you baby is taking in.

Pumping often will usually help you see the sort of milk you are making. It's a great way to also keep your supply up.

I know we are trying to slay soon but please keep this at the back of your mind. If you are fully healed, you could certainly start physical exercises, eat cashew nuts (this works for me) and take water often.

Please eat well basically...

Love and light

Well for me, I don't believe in all these take watery pap, tea blah blah(they are all in the category of liquid) just take the right portion of meal and stay hydrated. Shikena.
Before i breast feed, finish a sachet of pure water and as soon as am done, I take another sachet.
I don't know if you have noticed, once your done bfeeding you feel sort of dehydrated.
All these eat eat eat makes one add unnecessarily

My baby is 7 months and she hardly takes anything, if you try force feeding, she throws everything out.The highest she can take is 30ml once a day. Yet when she been carried, I get compliments "wow what's she taking, she heavy", and i get shocked cos I know it's 95% breast milk, but me am so tired...
The panic shopping made me so confused, I didn't know which milk to stock up embarassed embarassed i just ended taking two brands of milk(4 in number). Lol I think am ranting

Noted. Thanks

Don't know about the garri part

But you can try adding soyabeans powder to your pap, tea n oats to increase lactation. I started adding it to my pap n oats just yesterday and my breasts were full the whole day even after breastfeeding.

Was adviced to take it when I'm due as it will help me lactate as soon as I deliver but I didn't end up taking till yesterday. But anyone that intends breastfeeding right away can give it a try.

Noted. Thank you very much.

Please, is drinking garri bad for a nursing mum?

The rate with which I have been craving garri these days is alarming!

Also, apart from lactation cookies etc, are there other tried and tested methods to increasing lactation/milk production? Coconut and cashew nuts have been advised.

My baby is a month old today and I plan on exclusively breastfeeding for 6months. So far we are doing ok but will like to do better.

I was also gonna say take it easy on mama she’s probably respecting boundaries. I have only boys so I am now more lenient towards MILs I am beginning to feel thier plights more LOL.

How about planning or agreeing on breakfast with your help the night before ? For eg you can ask her to peel the yam , boil the beans or whatever before you’re up and then you get up maybe try eggs get it served and go back to bed. Same with other meals too . If she enters your kitchen you nor go like am oh cheesy

Thanks Mama, duly noted.

Mama, u just described my MIL and of a truth all she's doing is respecting boundaries. I had painful epis dat refused to heal during my first delivery and my MIL is all shades of caring and helping except for d cooking part, it was my friend dat comes to do d cooking every 2days, then one day I tearfully told her "mumsy I've missed ur efo riro and moimoi elewe" we all laughed and MIL said she didn't know I wanted her to cook, I said me dat I'm managing to eat. So she promised to cook Vegetable soup dat very day, I will just write a list of what to buy and send someone to d market. From then she did all d cooking till she left and me and hubby really enjoyed her cooking, infact we appreciate her by fighting over d last bite at times grin grin

Long story short, find a way to talk to her, she might not even know u will be pleased if she cook for u

Thanks Mama, this is fully noted.

I now know that my MIL is simply respecting boundaries so it will be easier to talk to her on this basis.

Graced2018 maybe she's trying to respect boundaries. You'd need to talk to her to feel free using the kitchen. My mum doesn't eat everything we eat in the house & she's been around assisting me due to my pregnancy, I can't imagine preparing her special dishes, preparing that of me & DH and then preparing for that of my 15months old.
Just talk to her about it. I'd rather not have anyone stay with me than have someone that will add to my burden.

I may have to agree with you on respecting boundaries. She's been nothing but good to me, all my in laws infact.

I just wish she would know that I need her to step in now. I will talk to her like you suggested. Thank you

I'm a bit confused about this sitbath thing
Was told at the Hosp. to just allow the steam go in, same thing I did when I had my son and I healed pretty well
Just want to be sure I'm doing it right

Hey mama,

When you say steam, I'm assuming the water must be really hot in order to get steam.

I understand this is risky it could loosen the suture and further make the site more sensitive.

Please dont use hot water, only warm water with salt and savlon.

So from what you and graced wrote, that means it’s not risky to rub something down der? Omo
I Dey fear o

Hello,

So I stopped using the ointment or doing the sitz bath, both seemed to be aggravating things and making the site more sensitive.

All I'm doing now is using a cloth dipped in warm water /salt and savlon to massage the area. I do this like 3-4 times then pat dry. I feel a little better, at least I can now clench and do kegel. So the gag for now is to keep the area as dry as possible, while still using the Lady Sept pad.

I also sit on the doughnut shaped pillow, no more hard surfaces.

I intend to keep doing this only, at least till the site fully heals.

I stopped sitting on warm water the third day cos it seemed it was causing me more harm than good. Maybe because of the hot weather.. I started using ice park, and I healed in 6 days. I was shocked too. As for the pain, I didn't use anything for it except for the drugs they gave me in the hospital.
I made sure that the place stayed dry most times, i e no panties, just pieces of clean soft clothes to use as pad. Don't use gel pads, e.g always...they can cause infections.
After peeing, run clean, cool water thru the place and pat dry. It'll heal faster. Sorry..

Thank you for sharing. All noted

Hello Mamas,

Can we discuss Episiotomy please? The pain from the suture site is PAINFUL.

Yes , I'm doing the sitz bath (Warm water, salt and a dash of savlon)

I also got a cooling spray which works briefly and the pain returns.

Dear mamas who had the cut/tear, what are your tried and tested methods for healing? Kindly share, this pain is getting out of hand, I have finished taking all the prescribed painkillers.

This is 8 days after delivery...

An update to this!

I visited the hospital and the Doc examined me.

1. He says I'm not supposed to sit on hard surfaces while the healing is still on. He recommended a floating ring to be used for sitting to keep pressure off the suture site, will get the ring tomorrow.

2. He also gave me an ointment- Hydrocortisone, to be applied to numb the pain and reduce any swelling.

That's it basically. I guess not all sutures are same, our bodies dont necessarily accept these things the same way.

So no more hard surfaces for me for now while I watch the healing.

Thanks everyone.

Chai. Pele. I remember that PAIN oooooo. That pain almost made me enter into depression. I had it for 6 months. It refused to heal. A midwife looked at it and said the person that stiched me left out some parts. I could see a red flap of skin hanging out(that red flap is supposed to be inside me)
That was how I turned to researcher. I didn’t want to go back to the hospital and have it Redone. A few things I remember I did was religious sitz bath(it gave me relief, sometimes penicillin and sometimes gentian violet(I think this worked really good), it made the site dry and the red flap shrieked really fast.
But all in all you will be fine. It will heal with time. You can also consider having a medical personnel take a look so your mind can be at rest
Also you are just about one week gone so please give your body time. It will heal. Our bodies are different some heal in 3 weeks some 6 months angry

Thank you so much for the reassurance.

Yes I intend to just go back to the hospital and have it looked it just so I know all is right down there and i just need to give it time to heal.

I had an episiotomy for my first and even though it was done while the epidural was still in effect (I had no pain meds with this stitch), I dont remember it being so dramatically painful. I could sit easily within a few days and I didnt even do the sitz bath religiously so this is all new.

Thank you again. Do stay well

Graced, what’s the name of the spray you are using?
I think it depends on the degree of tear you got. It will heal. Just continue with the sitzbath morning and evening

Thanks for responding.

I got a cut, not a tear.

Attached is the spray I'm currently using as I haven't been able to find Dermoplast in store.

A doctor friend advised I return to the hospital for them to check the suture. He says perhaps the string used is not the type that absorbs, hence the sting.

BA/BS #TeamMarch

As at my last appointment on Wednesday 26th Feb, I was scheduled to remove the cerclage on Tuesday 3rd March.

On Saturday morning, I woke up noticing that I had started losing my mucus plug so I got mildly excited that it was happening. I made vegetable soup and okro soup for the house, even unripe plantain porridge for myself lol.

Pre-labour contractions began on/off at about 2pm, and at 9pm we arrived at the hospital.....at least so they can remove the cerclage.

About 9.30pm, I was quickly moved into the theatre room and they started looking for cerclage but no way...it had grown into my skin and was not easily seen. So the doc decided to wait for labour to progress so she can push it downwards with labour pressure.

I was moved back to my room to continue labour. Contractions came back to back and I asked for epidural but the Specialist was not around and will not be coming in till the morning.

I was in A LOT of pain. I laid down, stood up, went to the restroom, vomited my breakfast lol. All these...they didn't want to keep checking how far gone so they don't trigger anything.

However, a few mins to 2am when they could see the amount of pain I was in, they checked and I was at 8cm. They quickly moved me back to the theatre to remove the cerclage.

That's when the main labour kicked off! No pain med oooooo....just a drip to keep me hydrated!
I was shouting, sweating, getting tired. The doc had removed the cerclage at this point and just encouraged me to push whenever the contractions came.

It felt like a looooooong time of pushing but at about 2.15am, she came through by Gods grace.

They put her on my chest for me to see while the doc continued with the removal of placenta and his suture of the mild cut he had given me, still with no meds! Another episode of bare screaming.

Baby has been sleeping a lot. Apart from the suture pain, I'm fine by Gods grace and I give glory to God for the entire episode.

Best wishes to all the Mums incoming, may it be far easier for you. Amen

Baby delivered at 38wks+5days on the 1st of March, 2020. EDD - 11th March, 2020

*EXTRA RANT* I have all kinds of worries - distance from hospital for when i go into labour, baby room arrangement ( my DD has been sharing our room), cerclage removal at 36 or 38 wks (i read that its very painful) etc etc. I could go on but.... let me not!

I wish ALL the Mamas a smoooooooooooth sailing especially these last days...the good Lord will come through for you all and the process will be far smoother than imagined.

1. Can someone please share a first hand review of First Consultant Hospital, Obalende? I have been using it for Ante-Natal and no issues so far, but i am still undecided about birthing there. I had a cerclage installed there and treatment have been ok so far.

2. Does anyone know what it cost too? VB & CS?

3. Who has Ms. Zaynie's contact? Kindly share pls

Can March arrive any sooner or I am the only one tired of waiting?

Mine was below 3cm and also open. Also, i was spotting blood, which is what prompted my visit to the hospital in the first place. If you are not spotting and the pregnancy is by no means considered high risk, please dont think too much of this.

Pregnancy comes with a lot of uncertainties but by God's grace, we will overcome all of it and it will end in joy.
