Education / Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, A Guest Discussant In The Doctoral Lecture Series (DLS) by Gradius(f): 8:24am On Aug 19, 2021
Some time ago I reported about one Chukwunonso Oraedu, a Ph.D student at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus that wowed lecturers and other participants during his final defense. While interacting with him after the defense, he did mention about challenging the existing mindset in our educational system.

As shared in his facebook platform, the DLS is a platform for discussing issues in our society and sharing knowledge and experiences. An interesting theme that promises to be intriguing, Education with a vision: Lessons for the next generation, is being addressed, with Prof. Kingsley Moghalu and Prof. Obi Ikechukwu, the Enugu State commissioner for health as guest discussants.

Prof. Moghalu recently tweeted about about this event. If you are in the city of Enugu and its environs, I wouldn't miss this event if I were you.

Education / Re: University Of Abuja Lecture Hall Overcrowded, No Social Distancing, No Facemasks by Gradius(f): 7:53pm On Feb 19, 2021
Gamer999:
No Social Distance In A Class Of Over 400 Students

These are over 400 students of uniabuja receiving lecture in a small hall. No proper ventilation, no social distance and not even face mask. You'll also find same crowd in other classes.

We have to consider moving some lectures activities online...why can't we take advantage of this pandemic to improve on our system. We don't seem to learn!
Education / With What I Saw In UNEC, There Is Hope For Nigeria Education by Gradius(f): 2:01pm On Feb 19, 2021
I felt obligated to share this.

I am a prospective postgraduate student, so I decided to attend a scheduled doctoral defence with the hope of acquainting myself with the technique of academic paper presentations. What I saw gave me strong hope for our educational system.

A doctoral student (whom I later found to be called Chukwunonso Oraedu) was called up to present and defend his thesis. This young man spoke with strong boldness and courage. To the extent that everyone in the hall was dazzled by his level of clarity. The examiner was just nodding his head and with rapt attention. It was as if he was teaching the lecturers and the examiner. At some point, just to be sure that the examiner was following, the young man asked the Prof. "do you understand me?" The examiner, including the Dean and some lecturers burst into laughter. The examiner was so impressed that he acknowledged minimal errors in his thesis. They even had to called out the wife because the young stated that she is his editor. She was given a standing ovation.

I decided to know more about the follower, then, I discovered that he graduated with First Class (honour) in both his B.Sc and M.Sc degrees and has published widely in both Thomson Reuters and Scopus indexed journals. In fact, I overheard a lecturing telling someone "I follow him on researchgate" "he is a serious scholar ". One of them was saying "this is a material, he shouldn't be working in UNTH". I later discovered that he is working in a hospital. According to him he has tried venturing into lecturing but the politics of getting employed is too much.

I had to get close to ask: why this interest in academics whereas gaining employment in there is quite a challenge for you? He said, he has an answer to a lot of questions in the system. He said "students are being deceived" and he wish to go in and correct some of the outdated ideologies in the system. He kept saying "I am on assignment" "I have a revelation on how we can send men (students) on their respective journey". He said academic should inspire students and not torment them.

He said if not for his Pastor - he may not have embraced this challenge. He said he had to buy PG form three times when his supervisor during his M.Sc wanted to frustrate him. He was out for it, because he may not be able to achieve the agenda if he does not bag his PhD. He was full of praises for his Pastor...he said he has been a one-stop-advice centre for him in all life issues.

Shortly before we ended our conversation, he said, young girl remember my name because you will hear it over and over again. And remember what I told you about my agenda in the educational system. It will happen!

This fellow is 100% correct. You can see experience and exposure in his argument. Unfortunately, the country is run by people who does not listen to sincere and honest reasoning.

Watch them counter what this fellow has said!

The bolded is the reason a lot of us are rooting for peter Obi...

The same way our railway construction is the most expensive in all of Africa despite being constructed on huge loans..

Tribalism aside. This man has what Nigeria need to start working again. He has proven his quality as a governor. Unfortunately, we value waste over prudence in our country.

NYSC / Re: Ugwu Kenneth: Akwa Ibom Corper Builds Stairwell For A Community by Gradius(f): 9:47am On Feb 02, 2021
1newnairalander:
When corper Kenneth Ugwu was posted to a village in Akwa Ibom state, little dis he know that he would be the saviour of the residents in this Akwa Ibom village who usually struggle to trudge up and down this slope on their way to getting water from a stream. This NYSC engineer "corper" , Kenneth Ugwu built them a stair walkway.

This is a worthy #challenge to other corps members.

Crime / Re: POS Operator Dies From Bullet Wounds Sustained During Robbery (Photos) by Gradius(f): 12:47pm On Jan 31, 2021

Every Community has thieves, kidnappers, cultist, and every vices you can imagine,

These criminals are not spirit, they live amongst us, they live in our community.

if we can solve the problems within our community, we can solve the problems in our country.

When a community knows all it's residents, and their occupation, criminals cannot hide amongst, with information you can fight crime.

The Government is overburdened, the over dependence on the central government is destroying our lives, our community are too poor and too weak to fight crime.

An isolated Community is a weak Community, our local government are weak, our Ward and council are weak, the grassroots is weak.

Make it impossible for criminals to commit in twon and run to Ethiope. share information, if not we will lose more of our brothers and sisters to these killers

We should start fighting crime from the grassroots not from the state level.

This explains why we should clamour for state and local policing. It is clear that the police system as practice today cannot help secure life and properties.
