Politics / Atiku Under Fire For Holding Strategy Session With '400-man Campaign Team' In Du by Grayxme: 2:30pm On Nov 02, 2018
A Civil Society Organization, the New Agenda for Positive Change, has taken a swipe at the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for holding a strategy session with over 400 members of his team in Dubai, UAE.

The Dubai meeting had in attendance, Atiku’s running mate, Peter Obi; the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Also in the meeting were ex-Ogun Governor, Gbenga Daniel; ex-aide to former President, Reno Omokri, Bayelsa East Senator, Ben Bruce among several others.

Reacting, however, the group said the development was a sad reminder of Atiku’s extravagant lifestyle, elitist mindset to governance, which his years out of government Nigerians had not forget.

Raymond Clarke Amuna, President of the group, said the development was an indication to his dangerous tendency to hand Nigeria over to foreign interests, with Dubai being his latest preference.

Amuna in the statement on Friday challenged the PDP candidate to explain to Nigerians how he intends to run a domestic-oriented economy for the masses with the kind of lavish lifestyle of taking his strategy team with over 400 members to Dubai.

He warned that a vote for Atiku would definitely signal a return to the era where even bottled water is imported into the country and Nigerians will again be conditioned to believe that only things that are foreign are good.

“Each time Atiku Abubakar considers slinking to Dubai, he should be mindful of how the opulence of the desert city warps his sense of proprietary. He has never returned from his Dubai trips lucid enough to accept the reality in Nigeria possibly because his guilty conscience pricks him to know that the PDP could have done better for Nigeria in its 16 years of misrule.

“There are various exotic venues in Nigeria that he could have used and have members of his team spend money to boost the local economy but he decided to expend his N20 million annual income in ferrying Peter Obi, Secondus and other clowns in his circus to Dubai for the strategy session.

“It is therefore not surprising that his team issued the statement castigating the government for planning to use the proceeds of privatization to fund the national budget.

“The first thing of note is that Atiku Abubakar, a onetime Vice President (1999 to 2007) and by default the Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the time, was the originator of privatization or in layman’s term selling government owned enterprises, businesses and assets.

“It was under him that the chant of 'government has no business in business' or 'government is incapable of managing businesses' first gained ground and has remained a part of our collective psyche today.

“Secondly, Atiku Abubakar spoke from experience. He is not sure that the national assets in question would be allocated to him and his cronies as it was done under his watch when he held sway over the privatization of most of the country’s assets.

“He is therefore definitely waiting until such a time when he is certain that he can acquire the same assets for pittance. His media organization ranted on about how the assets to be sold were built by the PDP without being able to list a single one of them, which implies that the PDP candidate is claiming what he did not achieve.

“Furthermore, the PDP presidential candidate is unmindful of the reality that the proceeds will be managed differently from the 16 years that his party was in power. It is publicly known that even the small money for which national assets were sold under his watch ended up in individual’s pockets”.

Politics / Be Faithful To Your Country, Buhari Counsels Angry APC Aspirants by Grayxme: 4:19pm On Nov 01, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged aspirants of the All Progressives Congress who lost out in the primaries to remain faithful and hold fast on integrity to the nation.

A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Wednesday, said Buhari gave the charge at a dinner with the APC Aspirants Forum at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday night.

The president said the primary motivation to contest elections should be to improve the country and not for pecuniary reasons.

“We must maintain our faith in the country,’’ he told the coalition of party members who contested the primaries.

President Buhari said he contested presidential elections three times before coming to power in 2015, adding that “providence will always pave the way for the just, committed and patient politician who wants to truly serve the country.’’

He told the aspirants that “those who mismanaged the resources of the country are still very much around, with incredible wealth.’’

He warned them to be vigilant and circumspect in making choices, saying the future would only be salvaged by those who love the country.

He said: “I spoke with the APC party chairman almost every other day, at least for an hour during the primaries.

“And sometimes, we met for two and a half hours on ensuring internal democracy during the primaries.’’

He pointed out that in spite of all efforts to appease everyone and give them a chance at the polls, some aspirants were still not treated fairly.

“I urge you to stay faithful if your objective is to serve the country.

“I came back to power in this agbada’ to convince Nigerians to make sacrifices that the country needs now for a better future,’’ he added.

In his remarks, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, said the meeting was organised to address grievances and fallout of the APC primary elections across the country.

He said it would be unfortunate to allow the grievances to overshadow the challenges before the country, assuring the aspirants that government would assuage their yearnings to serve the country.

The leader of the APC Aspirants Forum, Hon. Yusuf Banki, gave assurance that the network of 7,000 members would work to ensure President Buhari’s victory at the polls in 2019.

Politics / TSA: New Tariff Regime Effective November 1 by Grayxme: 5:41pm On Oct 31, 2018
The federal government has indicated that, from November 1 2018, the service charge on all payment to its ministries, departments and agencies [MDAs] would be borne by the payer.
In line with the global best practices and amidst dwindling revenues, the federal government has approved a new Treasury Single Account [TSA] tariff model which mandates that the service charge on payment to its ministries, departments and agencies [MDAs] from November 1, 2018 would be borne by the payer. This revelation emerged at the recently concluded One-Day Stakeholder Sensitisation Exercise on TSA e-Collection Charges held in Abuja on Tuesday October 30 2018, organised by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation. Under the new model, according to information emanating from the office the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, all funds collection into the TSA would require payers to bear the transaction cost.
The new model would therefore replace the previous one wherein the merchant—in this case, the federal government—bore the charges on all transactions to the service providers on behalf of payers. In the previous tariff regime, the federal government owed the technology service providers and the participating deposit money banks up to two years in service charge.
In 2012, the pilot TSA scheme commenced using a unified structure of accounting for the 217 MDAs for accountability and transparency in public fund management. In August 2015, the initiative was fully implemented and covered over 1000 MDAs after a presidential directive. At commencement, all players, including all commercial banks, SystemSpecs and the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN], agreed that a fee of 1% of funds collected is payable.

Politics / 2019: S-west Youths Reject Atiku’s SGF Offer, Laud Buhari by Grayxme: 4:08pm On Oct 31, 2018
Ahead of the 2019 election, Youths in South-West have rejected Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF reserved for the region by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, saying, the party has never fulfill past pledge made to the region. The youths under the aegis of Progressive Yoruba Youth Congress, PYYC, yesterday alleged that the party has constantly shortchanged the region while assigning key position even after making promises publicly to secure South-West support. National President, PYYC, Mr. Kola Salawu at press briefing in Ikeja, argued that the tears of the region was wiped off by All Progressives Congress, APC in 2015 when it zoned the Vice President candidate post to South West and fulfilled it. Salawu added that the party has also handed over number two citizen post to the region which PDP couldn’t give them rather; allot it to South-East, picking Peter Obi as Vice Presidential Candidate. According to him, we have rejected Atiku and his party. And doing so, we have decided to campaign for our Uncle, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and President Muhammadu Buhari, during next year election. Salawu added “South West will not go back to oblivion again. And all the good people of the region must rise up to protect this ongoing progress and support the one who has brought development to the region. “We urge all sons and daughters of the South West of Nigeria to be politically awake and choose wisely in the forth-coming elections as the decisions we make will determine if the region will continue to enjoy the true benefits of good governance or we go back to the days of total neglect. “Let us not forget that the neglect by the PDP was not only political but also infrastructural. The party for whatever reason barely completed or even carried out any major project in the South West. “The Lagos – Ibadan express way, the busiest in the country was abandoned.” “The Benin – Ore expressway was equally abandoned, so also was the Oyo- Ogbomosho road, there was barely any federal presence in the South West. “We must also remain politically vigilant. When President Buhari’ s tenure ends in 2023 after he wins the 2019 elections, power will return to the southern part of Nigeria and that is just some four years away. “We never can tell what will happen then as the highest ranking person in this government from the south is no other but His Excellency the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo. It may just be his turn,” Salawu added.

Politics / Garba Shehu Warns Nigerians Abt PDP: No Matter Their Sweet Words, Don't Believe by Grayxme: 7:04pm On Oct 30, 2018
Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of "murdering opponents of government".

He also accused the opposition party of "abusing the judicial system" by going to court to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari's West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate.

He stated this on Monday, via his Twitter handle, where he warned Nigerians thus: "No matter their sweet words, don't believe them".

His post read: "We have read that the failed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is going to court to challenge the President’s West African School Certificate (WASC). This is a waste of time because we have the record of this and of higher qualifications obtained by hard work and truly merited by Mr President. This certificate story is an old one.

"As Femi Adesina stated clearly, it is a settled issue in the courts. To approach the court to pursue a matter long settled by the temple of justice is an abuse of the judicial system. It is shameful, disgusting and disgraceful.

"It is clear to all at this time that the PDP, facing an imminent humiliating defeat wants to sow division and chaos by seeking the destruction of the institutional structures that support our young democracy. They are attacking the courts and the Police; they are molesting INEC commissioners.

"They are theatrical in spreading falsehoods against persons including the President. By doing these, they assume that they can take away attention from the discussions on issues gaining momentum in the country; the issue of internal security which has been jeopardized by years of near-zero investment under 16 years of the PDP; the provision of long-delayed infrastructure which the President is pioneering; corruption to which the PDP is incurably tied and the sustenance of the prevailing good days in the economy, a business-friendly government working day and night, creating more jobs and affordable life for the poor.

"This election isn’t about the settled issues of certification. No matter how honeyed their sweet words, don’t believe them. Their evil record can never be washed away. The PDP set a record of murdering opponents of government and corruption on a scale never seen anywhere before. They put the national security at stake by diverting huge budgetary allocations to service their greed. Don’t believe their honeyed promises."

Politics / Nigerians Must Be Allowed To Vote Freely – Buhari by Grayxme: 5:06pm On Oct 30, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said in the forthcoming 2019 General Elections, Nigerians must be allowed to vote for candidates of their choice.

He said citizens’ choice should not by any means be tampered with.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving members of the Joint United Nations, African Union and ECOWAS Good Offices Mission on Elections at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Adesina quoted Buhari as assuring his guests that the 2019 polls would be free and fair.

“The President has only one vote, governors have a vote each, just like anybody else. Let the people vote for whoever they choose, without their will being tampered with,” the President said.

Buhari said Nigeria had left the era in which democratic norms were brazenly subverted, with votes awarded to those favoured by the authorities and the shortchanged told to go to court if they were not happy.

He added, “I am highly qualified to talk on this, having ended in Supreme Court three times, after participating in elections with disputed results.

“Where will a man looking for where his next meal would come from have money to hire lawyers, particularly senior advocates?”

Thanking the joint team for being in touch with Nigerian institutions, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission, the President noted that multi-party democracy gives lots of choice to the people.

He added that Nigeria had a vibrant young population, “who trust us to handle their affairs and resources well. A lot depends on leadership.”

Buhari said the 2015 elections were run with three campaign objectives: securing the country, reviving the economy, and fighting corruption,”and the opposition has not succeeded in faulting us. We are doing our best with the resources available to us.”

President of ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Brou, said the team came on a solidarity visit to Nigeria before the forthcoming elections as it did with other countries like Senegal, Mali, the Gambia, and others which recently held polls.

He appreciated the strong role Nigeria played in the sub-region while also thanking Buhari for his strides in the fight against corruption and terrorism.

Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, speaking on behalf of the UN, appreciated what he called “the strong leadership of President Buhari in Nigeria, West Africa, and Africa.”

“You’ve always played politics according to the rules. We will do all that we can to strengthen the institutions. We’re convinced that INEC is ready to conduct free and fair elections,” Chambas said.

In another development, also on Monday, Buhari stressed that his emphasis at all times was on free and fair elections.

“I emphasise free and fair elections at all times,” presidential spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, in a statement quoted the President as saying while receiving the Governor-General of Canada, Julie Payette, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari said Nigeria’s democracy was steadily improving with deeper understanding of the culture and tenets among the people, and the strengthening of the institutions that guarantee free and fair elections.

He said he saw the evolving strength of democracy in the country by contesting presidential elections three times before winning at the fourth trial in 2015.

The President told his guest that Nigeria had been learning from the mistakes of those who practised democracy for a longer period, and by looking inward at its own peculiarities.

He added that the bilateral relations with Canada would continue to be improved upon considering the huge interest of the country in Nigeria and growing economic ties, with many Nigerians schooling and working in the country.

Buhari noted that Canada played a brotherly role in helping displaced persons in the North-East, following Boko Haram insurgency.

In her remarks, the Governor-General said Nigeria and Canada had enjoyed a warm and strong partnership that had translated into ease of migration, large trade relations and cultural exchanges.

Payette, who is an astronaut, said it was important for nations to pool resources together to start exploring the benefits of space in providing solutions to some problems on earth.

The Governor-General noted that the world would achieve more by de-emphasising geographical differences and refocusing its energy on the commonality of humanity, pointing out that from space one could only see an earth without borders.

Payette said her visit was about showcasing “youth, innovation and technology,” adding that Canada would like to partner Nigeria in the ongoing diversification of the economy.

“We wish you free and credible elections in 2019,” she said.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting with the President, Payette promised that Canada would help Nigeria to tackle insecurity.

“Clearly, security and instability in Nigeria are vital to the entire African region and Canada is committed to cooperate and work together with Nigeria on this front as well,” she pledged.

She described Nigeria as an important regional power and influential centre of arts and culture.

She said Nigeria and Canada would cement their trade relations for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

She said, “Nigeria is an important regional power, the most populous country in Africa, the largest economy and influential centre of arts and culture, dance, literature, folklore music and film.

“Our two countries have been friends and partners for decades and we would like to continue in that fashion. We have many common interests in education, innovation, trade, culture and sports.

“At the height of our relationship are the ties between our people and they are on the rise with more than 10, 000 Nigerian students studying currently in Canada; the most in any sub-Saharan African country.”

Politics / Buhari Has Failed, But Still Better Than Atiku — Balarabe Musa by Grayxme: 3:53pm On Oct 30, 2018
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Peoples Redemption Party, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has said that despite the glaring failure of President Muhammadu Buhari, he was still better than the former Vice President and now Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
According to him, there is no doubt that Buhari has failed Nigerians but Abubakar will fail even more if elected in 2019. Musa’s statement came barely a week after he cautioned Nigerians against voting for PDP in the 2019 elections.

He said the choice between Buhari and Abubakar was one between “two devils,” adding that the forces backing the former vice president, including former presidents, will not allow him rule well if he wins the poll. Noting that those forces were interested in the defeat of President Buhari, Musa said: “Buhari has failed but Atiku will fail even more because of Atiku’s connection with some forces, among them, former presidents who are the root of the rot we are now facing in this country. “For Atiku to align with them for whatever reason, is more dangerous than Buhari, because all they have to tell Nigerians is that they want to defeat Buhari but is that all Nigerians want to know? “Nigerians want to know what is the qualitative and demonstrative character and differences between Atiku and Buhari and between APC and PDP. “There is nothing; so it’s a question of choice between two devils. The only thing is that we are faced with such a situation and we can’t have a credible alternative like we had when former President Badamasi Babangida established two political parties. “One to the left and other other one to the right calling one SDP and the other NRC, and if you want to participate in politics then, you have no choice but to select one of the two and there is nothing you could do about it. “So if we still face that kind of situation today, whether you support Atiku or Buhari or support PDP or APC, we don’t pray to have such a situation.” “But if we do face such situation, then it’s better to support Buhari because he is a lesser problem to Atiku. “Because Atiku, with him being rich and with the support of those forces, we will have a greater task in handling him.’’ On whether Atiku’s business experience could help revive Nigeria’s economy, Musa said the country didn’t need a business man to control its destiny.

Politics / Re: Alani Akinri: 'Buhari’s Certificate Saga, An Insult To The Armed Forces' by Grayxme: 6:57pm On Oct 29, 2018
I actually wonder why people are trying to make fire where there is no smoke. Let me quote what former President Olusegun Obasanjo said in 2015 during this saga of the President’s certificate. “Obasanjo said that it is an insult on a man, who rose to the echelon in Nigeria Army, attended the War College in the US and Staff College in Nigeria, for anyone to start asking whether he has a certificate or not".
So I see no reason why people are clamoring on this issue as it is clearly not a problem.

Talking about the President promises on Security, corruption and revamping of the economy. I will clearing say that security issues in the country has recorded great success. in 2015, Boko Haram were in the streets of Abuja but today we can testify that there have not being a single bomb blast in the city afterwards. Successful military operations have being set up as well to tackle the menace of Boko Haram in the Nation. On Corruption, Looting is no more the order of the day for government officials. The full implementation of the TSA is a huge credit to block unnecessary spending of the Nation's income by public officers. The Economy as well is not left out as recently FORBES rated Nigeria's economy best in Africa. With no doubt I can ascertain that this administration is for the betterment of the nation and it is ensuring that even the masses are partakers of the national cake.
