Over 25 years after their debut which took Nigeria & West African reggae circle by storm, the sensational New Waves who were also named after their hit track, The Dready Boys are back on the scene.

After series of setbacks few years after their debut in 1991, ranging from poor management to eventual rumor of the demise of the lead singer & youngest of the group, Greg Thompson (known today as St. Greg), the group disappeared totally from the music scene which made their millions of fans in Africa and beyond wonder what happened to them. With the sales of over 2million copies of their debut album, Yardstick, their numerous fans were buckling up for a great future full of entertainment from the young stars, only to see their dreams as mirage. 27 years down the line, the Sensational New Waves are back with a bang - East Wind which is a song the lead singer, St. Greg performed with all other members of the group - Jim Abel, Martin Steeve and Jackin Terah

Listening to the song, tears kept rolling from my eyes because this brought back the great memories of the typical New Waves songs, full of melody and great message. This is the New Waves at their best. And interestingly, it is a gospel song that centers on the activities of the Holy Spirit in us and for us. I was in awe watching these boys who have now turned men, all married with families doing music in a way that am sure will make them relevant even in the next 30 years.

I can't describe it enough, even though I had a first hand experience! All I need to say is "get ready for East Wind," both the audio and video releases happening on Friday, 9th of March @ 17:00 GMT+1 (5pm Nigerian Time)

At the end of the video, they wrote BEST SONGS ARE IN THE CHURCH and surely you can't agree less. East Wind is in a class of its own and more importantly establishes the joy of being a Christian!

Greg Ofoma, known as St. Greg is the 5th child in the family of six, born to late Elder &  Pastor Gabriel Obi Ofoma (late), of Igboukwu, Aguata LGA of Anambra State.   He is a graduate of Linguistics from the University of Ilorin in 2004 & now runs a young Brand Management/Marketing Company, U360 Network.   But at the age of 8, he led his then Church Choir to a National Competition where they came out 1st Runner Up. And shortly after that, St. Greg and his three (3) brothers formed  a musical group, The New Waves (Dready Boys) and in 1991 released their debut "Yardstick", an album that sold millions of copies across Nigeria and beyond. The New Waves then became arguably the best group in Nigeria but shortly disengaged from Music after about four (4) albums due to the poor management from then record label, Average Records.   Being "Born Again" in the late 90s, St. Greg in 2005 recorded his 1st individual gospel album "Psalm 23" but not released. And in 2009, he started recording "Virtues" with Iyke Onka and finally released in June, 2013 & currently enjoys airplay on several TV & radio stations in Nigeria & beyond. St. Greg (Greg Chisom Ofoma) was born in a family of six (6) to late Elder & late Pastor Gabriel Obi Ofoma. At the age of eight (, St. Greg led his local church choir to the National Choir Competition among all the churches in his denomination within Nigeria and beyond, where they finished as the 1st Runner Up in the competion. In his secondary school days, St. Greg with his three (3) elder brothers formed a musical group, the renowned NEW WAVES (dready boys), and in 1991 released their debut album titled "Yardstick". The New Waves were launched into the Music hall of fame in Nigeria and beyond, then became the most respected music group in Nigeria, with sales of about two (2) million copies. Being the Lead Singer of the group, St. Greg, who was then known as Greg Thompson became a face that everybody looked out for. Shortly after the release, the Dready Boys suffered some personal set backs. First, the three members of the group became orphans, which included St. Greg. The fourth member of the group, who is their cousin, lost his dad.   There after, the recording company, Average Records, became so insensitive and left them with little or nothing to show for their success. So after three (3) successive albums with the company - 'Yardstick', 'City Chaps' and 'Crazed Away', both parties parted ways, though through court settlement that lasted for over 11 years. And this affected the group emotionally and sociologically. But before the favorable judgement in court, the group came together again in 2003 and recorded an 8-track album which was not sold in the market due to the on-going legal battle at that time. The group finally lost all interest in music, some went back to school while others went into business.   The group became "born again" and in the year 2004, St. Greg graduated from the University of Ilorin as the best Linguistics student that year. He then joined the labour market and today runs a young Brand Marketing Company, U360 Network. In 2006, St. Greg recorded and shot the visuals of an 8-track gospel album "Psalm 23" but this was not released into the market for some personal reasons. And in the year 2008, he started recording the gospel album "Virtues" with renowned Producer/Gospel Rock Singer, Iyke Onka, which was finally released in the month of June 2013. And in a short period after the release, the album is trending in the market and enjoys air play in many local and international radio/TV stations, touching and changing lives!
