Politics / Bello Muhammed: Dei-Dei Market Violence Was Not Motivated By Religion/Ethnicity by GSA01: 8:13am On May 19, 2022
DEI- DEI MARKET VIOLENCE WAS NOT MOTIVATED BY RELIGION OR ETHNICITY.

FCT MINISTER: Muhammed Musa Bello

ORDERS CLOSURE OF MARKET

The violence that engulfed the Dei-Dei building materials market in Abuja on Wednesday, 18th May, 2022, was not motivated by ethnicity or religion but was the action of criminal elements who started the violence in order to carry out their criminal intentions.

This was disclosed by the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello when he visited the market in the evening following the incident earlier in the day, to ascertain for himself the cause and extent of the violence which claimed four lives and resulted in the razing of shops and vehicles within the market.

Accompanied by the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Mr Abdullahi Adamu Candido, FCT Commissioner of Police Mr Sunday Babaji and other top security and senior officials of the FCTA, the Minister met with the various market and community leaders and took an assessment tour of damage in the market.

Speaking passionately after the tour, the Minister said “After an emergency security meeting with the relevant security agencies including the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the DSS and senior management officials of the FCT, we decided to come here.

“And we came here specifically because on the social media, all kinds of stories are being circulated saying there is an inter-ethnic crisis in Abuja with one tribe fighting against the other. I have come here and met the leadership of the market, I have met the leadership of the communities and met the political leadership as represented by the Chairman and vice chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, and what really came out very clearly was that this was an accident that occurred when a lady on a commercial motorcycle fell off and a vehicle ran over her and unfortunately, she passed on.

“As a result of this incident tension rose and hoodlums took over and like they do everywhere in the world, their target is economic assets and they burnt down a substantial part of the timber market and other markets around here and they burnt many vehicles.

“There was no communal clash here and I appeal to all residents of Abuja to continue to live here as we have always lived in peace as the center of unity.

The Minister called on the community leaders to work at fishing out the bag eggs within their folds and help in bringing them to justice. He said “What I told the community leaders is that they have to fish out the hoodlums and the bad eggs amongst them. This is because this time around, hoodlums carried arms and they shot innocent people. This is very sad and totally, unequivocally, unacceptable in Abuja.

He said that a full scale investigation will be carried out by the security organisations with the full collaboration of the affected communities and added “I am appealing to other communities within the FCT that this is not a tribal or religious misunderstanding. All the leadership of the various stakeholders have lived here in peace for many, many years.

“It is simply a matter of criminals and hoodlums taking the law into their hands and I implore every community in the FCT to ensure that community leaders identify miscreants, drug pushers, drug dens and drinking joints where crime and criminality takes place. The police and the military cannot be everywhere at the same time.

Reacting to a request by one of the market leaders that the police presence in the market be improved, the Minister pledged that the police post in the market will be upgraded and the FCT Administration will provide the needed support while the police commissioner equally pledged more personnel.

While commending the efforts of the security agencies and community leaders for their efforts in containing the violence, Malam Bello prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and ordered the immediate closure of the timber market and adjoining markets.

In the same vein, Malam Bello also ordered the immediate ban on all trading activities along the roadsides and directed that all transactions be carried out within the shops.

The Minister was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary, FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola, the Chief of Staff, Malam Bashir Mai-Bornu, the Secretary, Area Council Services secretariat Alh. Ibrahim Abubakar Dantsoho and other senior officials of the FCTA.

Politics / 2023: I Will Engage More Youth To Drive Government ― Anyim by GSA01: 12:39pm On Apr 21, 2022
A leading presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Anyim Pius Anyim has said that if elected President of Nigeria in 2023, his government would be majorly driven by the youth.

Ayim said his government would redefine leadership before the Nigerian youth, so that after they have had proper knowledge of leadership, they can champion their energy properly.

While receiving delegations from the Youth Democratic Movement of Nigeria (YDMN) in his office in Abuja, led by its Coordinator, Comrade Christmas Olajide the former Secretary to the government of the Federation said he believes in the strength and capacity of Nigerian youth because he was elected Senator at the age of 37 and became the President of the Senate at 39 years.

He said his decision to include more youth in his government was borne out of the fact that Nigerian youth are full of potential and strength to drive the government and the economy.

First I will redefine leadership before the Nigerian youth, now having a proper meaning of leadership they will now be in a position to know how to champion their energy and channel their energy.

“The problem we have today is why everybody is seeking political office as the only channel of leadership that is available because we have destroyed the middle class.

We have to reinvent this country, we have to reposition Nigeria, we have to refocus it, and by the time I set out on this course, in the first one year, everybody will see the difference.

“I will make every Nigerian youth have self confidence that they have something inside them the world needs to see, and they will aspire to get to where the world will see it.

We have so much to do, and I will get Nigerian youth to realise that we need to refocus our country and get it right, and by that, we will secure the future of the younger ones. I will work with then Nigerian youth to secure the future of our country”

“The truth is that it is better and more productive to work with younger people, I have seen it work, I was young”, he said.

Senator Anyim said he had already identified individuals including youth to work with when elected as president, therefore in two weeks after inauguration, he would appoint his cabinet and economic team.

“I will set up my administration in 2 weeks, the human resource in Nigeria is enormous, you don’t need a satellite to identify them, you just put the right criteria in place, and you harvest them. It is not after the election I will start looking for people, I know people to work with”.

Politics / Sen. Anyim: The Man With Competence, Capacity And Temperament To Make Nigeria Gr by GSA01: 10:01am On Apr 20, 2022
SEN. ANYIM: THE MAN WITH COMPETENCE, CAPACITY AND TEMPERAMENT TO MAKE NIGERIA GREAT

In the history of human creation, God has constantly demonstrated his power over His creatures even though He has given them freedom to choose how to live and organise the human society.

When God wanted to liberate the Israelites from the oppression of Pharaoh, He set up a human process that brought out Moses who God Commissioned to lead the people. It was not an easy task but with God, Moses prevailed through the Grace upon him.

It has been established overtime, that no one takes upon himself the mantle of leadership except it is given to him by God. Even the Holy Scripture attests to this in Hebrew 4:4-6 ” No one takes this honour upon himself unless he is called to it by God”.

When Apostle Paul wanted to commission his protégé, Timothy as a leader, he told him, “You therefore, my son, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:2). We are only able to lead effectively after grace strengthens us.

When Grace beckons, the urge is unstoppable. That is the case of Anyim Pius Anyim. I have known Anyim Pius Anyim since the days of Secondary School at John Boscos, now known as Ishiagu High School. He has always been a man under exceeding grace.

Fast forward, Anyim was elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1999. The Senate of the 4th Republic was politically turbulent in the leadership of both Senate and House of Representatives. The interference of the Executive was not very helpful coupled with the fact that many of the Senators and Members were new and had no experience.

With the confusion of whether he was Evans or Evan, Senator Evans (Evan) Enwerem, who the Senate first elected as President of the Senate was impeachment. Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, an erudite political scientist was elected to replace him.

It was not long after his election, the controversial contract award of Street lights to the National Assembly came up. Of course, the executive was not comfortable with Okadigbo and needed someone to replace him. In one of those debates during the plenary, Anyim, raised his voice in opposition to the issue on the floor, camera picked him, the executive noticed him. He was in the news the following day. The next Senate plenary, Okadigbo was impeached, Senator Anyim was thrown up. He was elected President of the Senate. That was grace. With him, the turbulence in the Senate leadership was stabilised.

If the executive felt they had gotten a gavel on their side in Anyim, it was expectation taken too far. Anyim led a legislature which asserted it’s independence over the executive until he left office in 2003 That was grace.

In 2010, seven years after, Nigeria found herself in political imbroglio following the death of President Musa Ya’Adua in Office. The President had travelled for medical attention without formally transmitting power to his Vice Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and he couldn’t return. There was no constitutional provision as to what should happen in such circumstances. The National Assembly was battling with finding solution to avoid a vacuum in the seat of power.

Again Anyim surfaced with the idea of the Doctrine of Necessity. He led a delegation to the Senate leadership to propose the idea and also to the then Vice President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. That saved Nigeria from imminent leadership crisis. When Jonathan took over, he appointed Anyim Secretary to Government of the Federation. This was in recognition of his ingenious contribution to resolving Nigeria’s most critical political issue.

Anyim helped in no small measures to stabilise the administration of Jonathan with various innovation and creativity he brought to bear. He rallied Nigerians and motivated the two arms of the Legislature and Judiciary in support of Goodluck administration.

Anyim demonstrated leadership and capacity epitomising American General Montgomery when he said, “My own definition of leadership is this: The capacity and the will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence”. Peter Ferdinand Drucker was an Austrian-American author and Management who stated that “Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to high sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations”. That was what Anyim has done in Nigeria in the two occasions he had course to lead this country in carrying out important duties.

Anyim does not belong to the noisy group. He does not believe in media hype or propaganda. His experience in public service from defunct MAMSA, to National Refuge Commission and into politics and deep religious conviction, has shaped him to be a man of few words but with visible and pragmatic approach to leadership.

He is a man under Grace. Like in 2000 when he became the President of the Senate by consensus of Senators, he has presented himself to Nigerians, that same Grace is beckoning on him once again to salvage this country. He could just be God’s instrument to save this nation like the case of the Doctrine of Necessity. Who knows, Grace really Beckons.

Politics / Senator Uba Sani Declares To Run For Governor Of Kaduna State by GSA01: 2:48pm On Mar 15, 2022
SUSTAINING AND BUILDING ON A LEGACY OF OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE AND IMPACT

Kaduna State stood still today as I formally declared my intention to contest for the office of Governor of Kaduna State in the 2023 elections. The atmosphere was electric, the crowd enthusiastic and full of hope for a brighter future.

In my address at the declaration which was held at the State Secretariat of the APC,

Kaduna, I pledged to sustain and build on the legacy of our indefatigable, innovative and resourceful Governor, the incomparable Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. Mallam El-Rufai has changed the face of Kaduna State. He has redefined governance through his unprecedented infrastructural development and addressing of the developmental challenges of the state. He has raised the bar of leadership and citizens cannot tolerate any lowering of the bar.

I am a key believer in El-Rufai's philosophy of governance. I understudied him for decades. I stand in good stead to sustain his legacy and extend the frontiers of good governance in our dear state. I am an achiever. I have demonstrated it in the National Assembly. I am passionate about the welfare and progress of the good people of Kaduna State. With my declaration today I have entered into a contract with the entire people of our strategic state. Respect, accountability, transparency and responsiveness shall define our relationship.

My profound appreciation to the local government Chairmen of our great party, State Assembly members and other top chieftains of APC who rode with me to the state secretariat of the party for my declaration, amid cheering by excited party supporters and citizens of Kaduna State. In appreciation of the great work that Kaduna State APC party executives and APC local government chairmen have been doing, I donated 59 cars to them to help facilitate their work and motivate them to prepare for the 2023 electoral battle.

I urge Kaduna State citizens and all our supporters and well - wishers to come with me on this journey of consolidation. Power belongs to you. I will be your servant. I will be accountable to you. Your priorities shall be my priorities. We shall collectively build on the great works of the inimitable Governor El-Rufai. As we strive to break new grounds, the Almighty Allah shall be our guide and shield. In Him lies our strength.
