Nairaland / General / First Bank Faces N100bn Law Suit Over Unlawful Termination by gudmoment: 10:53pm On May 13, 2015
First Bank of Nigerian (FBN) Plc has been dragged to the National Industrial Court sitting in Awka over the unlawful termination of its staff.
Tennyson Ikpi, a former staff of First Bank  dragged First Bank Limited before the National Industrial Court sitting at Awka in Suit No: NICN/AWK/13/2015, following his indefinite suspension from duty and subsequent disengagement without adherence to the strict provision of employment law and internationally recognised best labor practices.
Mr. Ikpi a former staff of United Bank for Africa and a Branch Manager at Keystone Bank Limited, had a flourishing banking career until sometime in August 2012, when he received an offer letter from the First Bank of Nigeria ltd, due to his vast banking experience and impeccable track record.
Consequent upon the offer from First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Ikpi on August 2012 tendered his resignation to Keystone Bank Limited, little did he know that calamity was looming around the corner.
Few weeks after his resignation, Mr. Ikpi received a letter from First Bank of Nigeria Ltd abruptly suspending his employment on ground of a spurious and unfounded allegation against him on the pages of some Newspapers by an individual who had a personal acrimony with him over a court case.
Ikpi said, after keeping him in the dark without the payment of his salaries for 6 (Six) months and without any hearing or Judgment from any Court of law, First Bank of Nigeria  terminated his employment, a decision which he strongly believes violates his constitutional right to fair hearing and has since commenced an action at the National Industrial Court, challenging the constitutionality of the termination of his employment.
Mr. Ikpi is praying the Court to award the sum of N100 billion (One Hundred Billion Naira) against First Bank of Nigeria Limited for damages suffered by him, as a result of its unlawful action.

Of a truth, I think it's high time our leader looked into the welfare of the NPF. The salary most especially is really nothing to write home about which is like a stipend when compare to some other sections. Although, not that I'm in support of their habitual character of bribe collection but I belief strongly, that if their uniforms, medical care and concerns of their children education is been taking care of by the government, bribery habit will be reduced.
