Health / What Does A Messy Room Say About You??? by H0Dinteriors: 12:26pm On Aug 03, 2018
Do you ever dream of living in the perfectly clean and organized rooms of a home decor catalog? Or would you rather spend your time in a room cluttered with objects, souvenirs, books, art, and items that make up your daily life.

For some people, a tidy room can be soothing. An orderly retreat in an often disorderly world. For others, such rooms can be sterile, bland, and uninspiring.

Some people feel anxious in a cluttered room, while others feel their most creative amid the squalor.

Organization is big business these days. From books to seminars to organizational systems, everyone seems to want to find some way to perfectly arrange every aspect of their lives. Messiness has long been viewed as something of a character flaw or a sign of laziness. Cleanliness and organization are presented as the ideal—both a sign of and path to success.

But what about those that are a little bit messier or more cluttered? What does a messy room say about you? What exactly is behind messy room psychology?

YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
Having a messy room might be the result of a lot of factors. It might mean you are busy and have little time to clean and organize. It might be a sign that you have too much stuff. Or it might be the result of having young kids in the house who are usually not motivated to clean up after themselves.

But if your room is just habitually messy, does it say anything about the state of your mental health?

In some instances, the state of your room might be linked to a psychiatric condition. People with obsessive-compulsive disorder, for example, may become so preoccupied with keeping things clean that any amount of disorder can become a significant source of anxiety. In other instances, people hoard items to the point that they cannot part with even the most trivial objects. Their homes fill with years and years’ worth of useless items, from old newspapers to plastic containers.

Beyond these and other serious conditions, the psychology behind a messy room can hinge on a few key factors:

- If having a messy room is a new phenomenon
- If the mess is something that actually bothers you
- If it is a sign of something deeper going on in your life

MESSINESS MIGHT BE NORMAL
Is your messiness habitual? Some people simply do not place a high priority on having everything clean, organized, and in its place. In this case, messiness is simply a normal state of affairs. If the house is cluttered and it’s just fine with you, then it’s probably more a sign of your personality and preferences.

MESSINESS FROM FEELING OVERWHELMED
Does the mess bother you? If you are frustrated, angry, or overwhelmed by the clutter and disarray, then it’s a clear sign that something needs to be addressed. Sometimes a mess might be frustrating, but figuring out where to start and how to tackle the problem can seem overwhelming. This might mean eliminating some things, learning new organizational tactics, or getting other household members to help with the cleanup.

MESSINESS AS A SIGN OF DEPRESSION
Is the messy room something new and unusual? If you are typically neat and organized, suddenly not caring about a messy room might be a sign that something is going on in your life. For example, messiness can sometimes be a sign of depression. Depressed people often feel too fatigued or hopeless to keep up with routine household tasks.

Depression can also make it harder to stay focused and have the energy to straighten up a room. If you struggle to stay on task, it can be hard to devote the time and attention needed to keep things tidy. So while you might notice that the room is messy and have intentions to clean it up, finding the concentration and energy levels needed to do the task can be difficult or even impossible.

If you suspect that your messy room might be a sign of problems in your life or a result of depression, don’t be afraid to reach out. Talk about what is going on with your doctor or consult a mental health professional to get specific advice for your situation. A counselor, therapist, or doctor can help you get to the bottom of what’s going on and assist you in coming up with a plan of action to address the problem.

YOUR PERSONALITY
So what makes tidy and messy people different? Are some people just born with personalities that prefer order while other thrive on chaos?

While some might suggest that a cluttered room is a sign of a cluttered mind, those who prefer this type of environment are not necessarily disorganized. Their desks might look like a jumbled mess, strewn with papers, envelopes, and files. Yet they always seem to know exactly where each and every item is when they need it. The famed psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud was once attributed as saying, “Don’t clean up the mess. I know exactly where everything is.”

In fact, some people seem to thrive in this type of environment. Some of the most creative and productive people seem to be incurable slobs.

If having a perfectly neat and tidy room is what inspires you and helps you feel productive and creative, it might mean that you tend to have more of what is known as a Type A personality. People with this personality type tend to be perfectionists. Having everything in its place helps fulfill their need for order and control.

But if you tend to be more laid back in your approach to housework and tidying up, it might mean that you have more of a Type B personality type. People with this personality type are more relaxed than their Type A counterparts. Rather than focusing on achieving perfection, they are more attracted to ideas, experiences, and creativity.

ADVANTAGES
And there is research that supports the idea that messiness also has an upside. Researchers found that while working in an orderly room encouraged behavior such as generosity and healthy eating, working in a messy environment actually led to greater creativity.

- Increased Generosity
- Increased Creativity
- Increased Willingness to Try New Things

While minimalism might be trendy, it might also be crushing your creativity. If keeping a tidy desk or room is causing you more stress than the mess itself, trying relaxing for a while, live with the mess a little, and see if it helps open up your creative abilities.

Disadvantages
Of course, habitual messiness also has its downsides. A messy room can make it harder to find things when they are needed, and in professional settings, it might result in missed deadlines or losing important documents.

- Less Charitable Leanings
- Decreased Willingness to Follow Rules
- Less Healthy Choices

Both order and disorder can be found in abundance in nature and in our self-created environments. Sometimes people tend to be messy in one setting and more orderly in others. As research on the topic suggests, each state has both its own set of advantages and disadvantages. In order to determine what a messy room might say about you, start by considering why the room tends to be disorderly, including your own habits, preferences, and state of mind.

If you function fine in a messy room, then don't let trends pressure you into pursuing a more organized or minimalistic lifestyle. However, if the messiness is something that causes you stress or if you suspect it might be a symptom of an underlying psychological problem, consider steps you can take to address the problem. This might involve assessing your habits, getting others to help, or talking with a doctor or therapist about your concerns.

Properties / How To Make Your Home A Happier Place. by H0Dinteriors: 1:11am On Sep 08, 2017
Why do we call it home? Is it because it is where we live or because it is our place of rest? Yes, that’s probably true but is that all it is to us A home is our safe place which we’ve built and internally arranged to match the person of our being, it is that one place where one is free to be whoever and choose to do whatever they so wish with their personal space. Making a home a happy place is something I personally feel has to do with the interior colors, furniture type, wall painting, lighting among other things.

PSYCHOLOGY OF COLOR
Each color has different psychological effect, as such certain colors are better suited to certain room.
FENG SHUI
This translates from Chinese as “wind water” and is over 3000 years old. It teaches that the energies of a home must be balanced in other to promote good health and fortune for its inhabitants.
BIOPHILIA HYPOTHESIS
It suggests that due to our evolutionary history, human beings have a preference for being around nature, and find its absence distressing.

LIVING ROOM
· - The color green is a refreshing color which according to research promotes rest and recuperation, this makes it a great color for your living room.
· - Natural lights sources like daylight coming into a space is good for maintaining energy levels but in a case where that is not sufficient Introducing halogen bulbs into your living room is great as it mimics the natural light. You would also like to know that tinted bulbs create a warmer atmosphere in any space but of course you could switch between the two depending on your mood, nothing a little wiring here and there can’t solve.
· - If you happen to be one who loves their space while taking a nap, the best furniture for you is a soft couch or you could get a chaise but if you happen to be one who loves to be on their own; an individual chair would do you better than a couch.
· - For the love of everything green, natural and beautiful, you might want to introduce a plant that grows in the presence of low light such as Reed or Areca.

DINING ROOM
· - The red color is generally associated with danger according to research is also known to raise blood pressure, the heart-rate and stimulates conversations.
· - Lightning such as a central fitment no more than 60cm above the height of the table, table lamps and accent lightning around the room’s perimeter can be introduced to create a relaxed environment around the room

STUDY
· - Purple is a bold color associated with productivity and wellness which makes it the ideal color for your study/workspace.
· - Do not block out natural light with heavy curtains instead employ the use of venetian blind in your study/work space. Research show that people happen to be more productive under the natural light of the day than under artificial light.
· - Do not face your desk or table against a wall as this will affect your level of concentration and productivity.

KITCHEN
· - Yellow color is best for your kitchen as this creates a sunny and bright environment and Feng Shui teaches that the color aids digestion.
· - Good lightning in the kitchen is also something that should be carefully selected. Multi-head spot lights can be installed to direct light to key work stations.
· - If there is room for a seating area in the kitchen, you might want to introduce floor lights to map out the area to create a relaxing atmosphere in the kitchen.
· - You may also want to introduce a spider plant as it removes poisonous gasses and other air impurities in the kitchen.

BEDROOM
· - The color blue is a calm, motivating, lowers blood pressure and the heart-rate making it the best color for your bedroom.
· - Use of thick curtains should be implemented to keep out the light of the early morning sun.
· - Use of electronics in the bedroom should be moderate and if possible, use none at all.
· - Lavender plants which are colorful with sweet fragrance are good for a musty bedroom.
· - Your bed should be placed diagonally opposite the door so you have a clear view of the whole room.
· - Research shows that making your bed in the morning after you wake makes you happy and productive.
· - Avoid mirrors in places where you like to rest as this creates much energy.

BATHROOM
· - Introduce earthly colors into your bathroom using its contents like your towel, drape etc.
· - Aloe Vera is a medicinal plant with numerous healing properties and cure for skin irritations – all it needs is a little sunlight to flourish.

There’s no perfect guide book for interior design, all it needs is a bit of you and everything that makes you happy. What are your thoughts, please do share with us in the comment section below

Properties / 3 Easy Steps To Getting Blood Stains Off Your Property. by H0Dinteriors: 6:59am On Aug 09, 2017
Our homes happen to be one of the safest places but still it doesn’t stop accidents from happening, I guess that’s why it is called a home accident. Little accidents like a scrapped knee, finger cut from sharp objects could lead to blood ruining our clothes or any other thing around and removing this stains from surfaces such as clothing, furniture, mattresses, or carpets could prove difficult and frustrating. Below are steps to follow to ensure blood stains don’t set and end up ruining your things.

1) Rinse the fabric through the back with cold water and avoid any attempt to use hot water as this will cause the blood stain to set further or simply wash the piece of clothing in the washing machine with regular laundry detergent.

2) If the blood happens to get to the floor or any other hard surface and is already clotted, try removing it by scrapping it off with a blunt knife or spoon.

3) You can also introduce vinegar, lemon and hydrogen peroxide;
o Pour vinegar on the stained spot and let it soak for 5 – 10 mins, then blot with a piece of cloth or towel. Repeat process if necessary and wash.
o If stain is dried up, scrap off the dried blood and apply lemon over the stained area, sprinkle some table salt over it and leave for about 10 mins then blot with a damp cloth.
o Hydrogen peroxide also happens to be a good blood stain removing agent as it acts like a bleaching agent but you should also know that it could damage the color of some fabric so do ensure to test it on a small surface area first before use. Apply a small amount of stained area and blot with a tower.

Removing blood stains from materials can be tricky, if possible treat stain while it’s still wet. Don’t leave blood stains out to dry because the longer the blood stays, the harder it is to remove. And avoid using hot water too. What are your thoughts, do share in the comment section below

Properties / 4 Things You Need To Know When Choosing A Design For Your Children’s Room. by H0Dinteriors: 9:43am On Jun 27, 2017
Kids love to play and hang around beautiful and lovely places like the park, children toy shops, shopping malls with kid playgrounds and all but do they only have to go out to this places to enjoy themselves? Why not bring home all the fun to them. Every child deserves to love where he/she sleeps, eats, reads and plays, all you need to introduce is some few interiors changes and you would be the best parents ever!!!
Here are some key things to note:

* SAFETY

When choosing your children’s room, make sure it’s perfectly safe for your kid.
- Provide as much space as possible because Kids are very much energetic and love a lot of space to roam free so your child’s room shouldn’t be cluttered with too much furniture.
- Spaces occupied by interiors should minimal, all your kid needs are his/her sleeping area, a small desk with probably a desktop/laptop stationed nicely on it, a shelf which could be fixed into the wall above the bed area or above the reading area, wardrobe/dressing area and a lot of run around space. Any other thing if necessary should take less space.
- Look out for sharp objects like popping nails on furniture, remove them and if not movable – cover them up.
- Use less of breakable materials and more of unbreakable materials.

* SLEEPING AREA

This is where the question of how well you know your child comes in.
- Design the bedroom to meet his/her personality as much as their age.
- Use his/her favorite color to create a theme that will grow with them.
- Your child should be able to get in and out of bed without any hassle.
- Provide a bedside lamp, so your kid won’t have to wake up in the night and walk all the way to the wall switch to get the lights on also most kids love to sleep with the lights on.
- If you are going for bunks bed, make sure the spaces between the lower and upper bed is enough for your child sleeping beneath to be able to sit up straight with having to arch his/her back, install a stair to the top bunk which makes it easy for your child to get to the top and also a railing on the top bunk to prevent your kid from rolling off the top.

* ORGANIZED STORAGE

Every parent needs to know that the key to successful children’s bedroom design is clever storage.
- Storage should be easily accessible and easy to use, that way your child can have a place to keep all their stuffs.
- Allow your kid to choose his/her preferred design and colors he/she wants on the storage furniture which also helps you understand the color he/she likes.
- If your children’s room is spacious enough then keep storage to the outer edges of the room so your child has enough space to play. This allows for imaginative learning.

* LIGHTENING

Kids love bright and lively not dull and boring. Lights are used to give the room a warm feeling.
- Limit the use of too much bright colors and materials.
- I would say, never keep the bed by the window instead keep the bed on the opposite side wall from the window to prevent too much lightening from the sun onto your child’s face.
- The bed space should feel more cozy and private and not exposed to a lot of lightning.

That about sums it all up, what are your thoughts about this? Please do share in the comment section.

Properties / House Of David Interiors Is Here For All Your Residential & Commercial Interiors by H0Dinteriors: 9:43am On Jun 24, 2017
Well here it is, our first nairaland blog post on the properties forum or let us say our introductory post. You may think it's probably not much to be excited about but we are plenty much excited cheesy but first things first, let’s introduce ourselves. House of David Interiors is the creation of two young undergraduates, who happen to be so obsessed with the way the hollowness of an empty space can be transformed with different applications of materials to create balance and rhythm and leave that frenzy feeling of satisfaction to one’s mind. Although the idea has been nurturing for a while, we didn’t give it a name until 2nd of August, 2016 when we decided to go public.

The launching wasn’t accompanied with red carpets or big after parties but we had a great number of two people who attended the event, David Festus (Co-founder/CEO), and Ezeike Francis (Co-founder/Manager) and this brings us to the ultimate question everyone has been asking, what is and what do we do at House of David Interiors?

House of David interiors as the name implies is a company that deals in both residential and commercial interior supplies, fixing and decorations such as;
* Curtains
* Curtain poles & accessories
* Bed clothing
* Window blinds (Vertical, PVC, Wooden, Metal Alloys, Rollers)
* Wallpapers
* Decorative materials
* Rugs and carpets
* And other related services

This intent of this post is to generate a huge interest in us by all Nigerians, from the little kid whose room is tempered just the way he/she loves it to the grandmother who doesn’t like her grand-kids moving or changing her preferred arrangements of household furniture. Subsequently, we will provide you with updates of our works through our blog houseofdavidinteriors..com.ng, Facebook www.facebook.com/houseofdavidinteriors, twitter www.twitter.com/hodinterior, Instagram www.instagram.com/houseofdavidinteriors and other future platforms.

The journey of a thousand miles starts with the very first optimistic-step and that step, we at House of David have taken and now we will love for you to join and encourage us in taking the remaining steps into a blissful future together. Thank you for reading, bye bye.

Health / 5 Reasons Why You Need To Clean Out Your Home. by H0Dinteriors: 8:55am On Jun 24, 2017
Everybody loves a clean and neat environment; it brings comfort to the mind and soul. The home is an abode which should be kept clean and uncluttered at all times, the interiors of your home speaks volume of who you are. Below are 5 reason why you need to clean out cluttered spaces in your house;

1. BREATH EASY
I don’t know about you but I do certainly feel uneasy around disorganized spaces. A cluttered space can be really stressful to clean out, now imagine having to clean out your kitchen, rooms and storage rooms…the thought will definitely drive one crazy especially if you have kids around.

2. CLEAR THOUGHTS
Everyone has that one place in or around the house where they love to go to just so they can clear their minds and think critically and am very certain that one of the characteristics of such places is its serenity. So why not make everywhere in your home peaceful and calm.

3. SAVE TIME
Time spent on looking for lost items and cleaning out cluttered spaces take a lot of time that can be invested in doing something productive like having fun with friends, bonding with your kids, household shopping, event planning and lots more.

4. SAVE SPACES
I for one can’t stand having boxes or items I don’t use lying around. They take up useful spaces around the house.

5. SAVE YOUR SEX LIFE
According to yahoo homes, your relationship could get strained from arguing over misplaced items, running late, cluttered spaces and disorganization. This may also affect your sex life.

That’s about it. Share your thoughts and opinions with us in the comment section below.
