Wow, i am excited to see Nigerians who are genuinely interested in cruising. I proud to say i was one of the people to be on the maiden sail of that ship. When i try to convince my client to try cruising, which is cheaper than land holiday, awesome with food 7 times a day #some gluttons. You get to visit more than one location for the cost of one, and you can go out at different ports to tour a bit inside the country, some still say no biko. Even the most educated Nigerians will tell you they are afraid of water, a client who had lived in American for long even mentioned mammy water Lol. Thumps up for the OP

Lol, nothing like peasant travelling, its all about the experience. If you have a good agent you can get wicked deals on those luxury hotels you want off season. There is nothing wrong with a two star hotel though. That's my limit for client, otherwise it can come back to bite your bum bum. The clients work hard for their money, so it must be perfect service all the way. Early days, i did road 5 countries west Africa, met some American student, till today still get business from them referring friends n family who are coming in here, so travelling like a bum or peasant get value.y

better stay in naija instead

Some Oyinbos stay in hostel n very cheap hotels, the experience is not only the hotel but sites, sights n sound n meeting new people, taking pictures for memory. If you go Paris for example, or Dubai, cheap or expensive hotel, you get to visit Eiffel tower n Burj, that's the essence. I hardly see Oyinbos who stay alone in a hotel room, they always share-budget travel. Some of my clients want luxury, but when they get cost, they revert to budget mode Lol

Travel / Why You Should Have That Vacation by hafees: 12:33pm On Jul 17, 2017
In my line of business , i have spoken to many couples and families ‍‍‍in Nigeria about using travel ✈for relaxation⛱, improving their health, get better in their relationship and most importantly elongate their lifespan. Many of the replies i get include: i have not finished my house , we have spent so much on the wedding, i am sending my children‍‍ to school and the most amusing one- i don chop belleful?

Most Nigerians forget that holidays and travel〽 should not necessarily be Europe or America or other so called holiday spots advertised in luxury magazines and shown with all glamour on CNN.

They could be Benin republic, Togo, Gambia and what of our own Yankari and Obudu and i can tell you from experience that with these places you don't have to spend heaven and earth I have done this for new couples, and group of friends (single girls hanging out for weekend or long public holidays) and the result has always be mind blowing. Once i did a village inside Iseyin for a banker group and when i saw the pictures myself, i felt a tear drop- they look happy and refreshed.

For new couples, your agent should be able to work with your budget- Dubai and Ghana are very nice honeymoon spots, if you know what you are looking for. The problem is many Nigerians think honeymoon is a waste- that's a huge mistake. It's better to use the money for all those outrageous party for your honeymoon- it helps to kick start your marriage on the best note. Many couples fight during the preparation especially on demands by wife's parents, budget etc. Honeymoon will help you a lot, no third party, it erases all the preparation stress
So,vacations elongates your life, better your love and family life, makes you work better on return, and generally makes you happy and healthy.

Politics / If I Were Ag Osinbajo Or His Handlers by hafees: 5:32am On May 20, 2017
Right now one of the major topics Nigerians are focusing on his whether Prof Osinbajo is acting in the capacity of the present since Pres. Buhari is away. The constitution is clear on this, but there are so many theories going on and this is distracting the country. We have have lots of important things to do, Nigerians are suffering but the politicians need the theatrics to further their own selfish plans.

If i were Ag Osinbajo, or his handlers, i would have simply put together a three minute video in national broadcast and shared on social media, assuring all Nigerians that there is a captain commanding the Nigerian ship. I will harp on the fact that my acting capacity is no longer a discussion, and that i am steering the ship pending the return of the president。I will assuage fears and let Nigerians know that i am in constant touch with the president and that whatever decisions taken he trusts me with it. I will wish the president well and pray for his return.

The Ag needs to spine up more, he should take charge, give direction, meet with the guys at the presidency, give them instructions and his expectations. One more thing, covertly go to UK meet with Buhari and discuss free hands till he is back.

The leadership should provide for their officers before complaining:

1. Bribe - officers are not paid living wages and are left to fend for themselves in many cases
2. Money collection - this come down from the DPO who claims the lion's share of the collections.
3. Public urinating - are there functional toilets anywhere?
4. Fighting over bribe - when salary is so low, anybody will fight to augment their daily bread

My only grouse is with the leadership of the NPF: the top brass get air conditioned, huge offices with all kinds of privileges, and the field officers get merciless heat, no water, no toilet, abusive superiors, and so on.

I wish I was wealthy, I would contribute money to the officers posted to my town and build better working quarters for them. Maybe some of the abuses of power will reduce.

I am a tour operator myself and i will blame the guy for two reasons, he should never use a booking site whats the difference between you and the client, have a solid partner in Dubai and everywhere you plan tours, not easy but must be in place so you will always have a seamless package. Secondly, i never go below three star hotels, otherwise your client will suffer for it. I had bad experiences booking online, from telling clients no room to shabby treatments, learnt the hard way. For the delay in visa for the man, not his fault bit should have applied way ahead, he also should have just charged 150 usd per person so no stories. He should have explained possibility of this delay as all good tour operators know this. Dubai has always been great for me

Travel / Nigeria: And The Visa Fee Milking Scheme Continues.. by hafees: 10:18am On May 04, 2017
NIGERIA : AND THE VISA FEE MILKING SCHEME CONTINUES

Annually, Europe makes billions of naira from Nigerians for doing nothing. I mean, they are not selling any product or services, or offering something that we need, they simply collect these hard earned billions pulled together from individual Nigerians and families and swallow. Right now, the tempo have increased, and they no longer pretend they have a reason to collect these billions from us , they are very sure we would come and pay again.

I am not talking about re emergence of the slave trade, or cheap African labour, I am talking about the Shenghen visa fee racketeering going on, and other attending money vending documentations put in place to make money for Europeans companies for doing no services to Nigerians, and Africans in general.  My experience in the travel industry spans over a decade, and every year, new visa regime are put in place by Europe and many other destinations Nigerians flock. They are sterner, more rigid, and usually better tweaked with technology to milk Nigerians the more. There was never a time Nigerians are considered in making these new decisions, we are always losers. But do we retaliate? I will stay on the Sheghen visa  fee milking scheme, and share the horrid experience of a family I planned a trip to France for. My emphasis is on France.

Visa fee for a family of six runs into hundreds of thousands naira. The milking scheme looks more like before you apply, they are ready to deny you. They just wait for you to pay the all important visa fees, wait a few days and then announce to you that you have been denied. The Sheghen embassy  have nine reasons listed for denying your visa, eight is clear and straight to the point and the ninth one is nebulous, and it states: ‘your intention to leave the member before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained’ It is the biggest scam!

While it is understood that the granting of visa is the prerogative of the European embassies, particularly France in this case, you however need to state a clear reason for denying me visa after paying heavily for just a piece of coloured paper gummed to my passport. Why can’t I pay when you grant me visa like some embassies do, and I can pay some token for handling fee. Now,  what could help an embassy ascertain that a family would return to Nigeria? The father who is the financier has thriving businesses in Nigeria with properties, and his financial statement shows he could take care of his family. Hotels have been booked, travel insurance paid for, paid return airline reservation available etc. Along with the mother who does business, will the family just go to ‘heavenly France’ and never return, while the parents who are doing well here  would then make a suicidal decision of washing plate in France and start a sustenance life style

From time immemorial, humans have been known to wander around or travel for many reasons: leisure, business, education, new experiences, and even to go out and look for a wife as done by some Chinese! Nigerians are no different from other human beings and they also crave to travel, while should we be punished for this. What is the essence of asking you to pay for a travel insurance when you could be denied visa, and it is understood that you cannot get a refund from the insurance company you paid to. The gimmick is simple, the Nigerian insurance company you buy insurance from, pay the European counterpart who pockets the money for doing nothing when you are denied visa. Why allow you pay a European company for doing nothing. Nigeria should equally ask that they have travel insurance too before coming in, let’s earn too. It’s that simple

Asking to see your hotel reservation may be sensible to be sure that you have a place to stay, but then when you are denied you pay for cancellation. A lot of the hotels do not do free reservation, and their cancellation policy, along with the request from the embassies seem to be a connivance to take money out of our pocket. The same goes for showing issued flight ticket, European airlines make some money. These are things you would purchase when you get your visa, and of course could be sighted at the point of entry.  We are not asking Europe to loosen their ports, we are just saying stop collecting our money for no reason.

After spending so much money, which goes into the pocket of the embassy and the European companies, with all ‘personal’ document presented, the French embassy feels my client will run away with his family and hide inside France forever. Is it not possible to get at least fifty per cent refund of the visa fee, when you feel you cannot grant us visas. I will not digress with their commercial partners like the VFS and others who are also foreign companies, hauling our money to their home countries. It is obvious no Nigerian company can collect papers and fix date for  interview or document submission?

Many Nigerian families and individuals re apply immediately, because they are encouraged to do so, and the money keeps going into Europe’s pocket. They feel there must be a mistake somewhere! Let me re apply. Some embassy, like the UK collects their money in Pounds or Dollars from Nigerians, and this is paid on line- repatriated directly to the purse of their government. It’s money making scheme after all. When will Nigeria learn!

In all of the above, and many other inconveniences Nigerians have been subjected to in these embassies, our government could only give a non cerebral response by planning to give visa to the Europeans and others at the point of entry.  We must be truthful to ourselves, we are not Dubai, and we sell nothing to them. They will only come in truck loads to sell to us, as always. The Chinese and Indians will further take our jobs, through the nebulous ‘expatriates’ theorem. I do need to state that in three days, the Nigerian government can create up to a million jobs, if the so called expatriates are removed. It is only in Nigeria you see expatriates whose job is to count money and pay workers.

What should we do, retaliate at once, and of course help Nigerians spend their money in Nigeria for tourism. So far we are kidding ourselves. Make it possible the same way an American wants to do Disneyland, or go to Las Vegas and still consider it as vacation. These are long term. The short term is simple, call them to order, and make sure we are not cheated inside our country. We are being slapped and kicked everywhere, inside or outside our shores. We are not the only nation with ‘black sheeps’

Do not let them cheat us and gyp us of our hard earn money, make them respect us. I am sure this not too hard to ask.

Will anyone of us be happy if used as a selfie background when we are dead. This makes no sense and highly in bad taste, and to say one of the corpse is a woman with the breast almost showing. May anyone who agrees with him be used as selfie material when they are dead.

Islam for Muslims / Islam: Issues Like Racism And Ethnicity by hafees: 6:47am On Jan 18, 2017
I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard
Muslims use Bilal (rA)’s name to support their
theories on why racism cannot or does not exist
in the Ummah. As if the Ummah is monolithic, as
if it were a small community or a classroom or a
place that could be static, even for a moment.
As if the act of tokenizing a man as a one size
fits all patch to the “non racist” racism that
“doesn’t exist” is somehow okay. As if they were
capable of naming another black Sahaba and not
have to resort to Malcolm X in a desperate
attempt not to be labeled the “R word.” As if
Twitter and other social media platforms weren’t
littered with the word abeed, as if in the mad
dash to advocate and mobilize for Syria and
Palestine we didn’t forget Somalia, and the war
on black men, women and children and non
binary folks that is occurring right now in our
towns, our cities, our homes.
As Muslims we like to knock ourselves in the
head with the idea that we aren’t susceptible to
racism, that somehow because we were warned
by the Prophet (saws) to beware of oppression
and to remember that racial hierarchies are
bullshit, we are spared from the parasitic nature
of anti-black racism. We give the Ummah this
projected identity of a safe and equitable space,
void of aunties who want lighter-skinned
daughters for their sons; uncles who won’t let
black men marry their daughters; and masjids
that actively work to keep out “urban culture”,
i.e., black culture. As if there aren’t brothers and
sisters who forget what private naseeha looks
like when they see the blackness of someone’s
skin, as if there aren’t entire countries being
crushed by the foot of neocolonialism that go
unsupported because a significant portion of
their populations are black.
A few months ago I went to a masjid that was
predominately Pakistani. I stopped on my way
home from work, it wasn’t my normal masjid, but
it was the closest one to me, so I decided to
pray there. I generally have no qualms about
praying somewhere on the side of the bus stop
or in a quiet place at the subway station, but this
day I had a little more time, and so I thought I’d
check out this masjid I’d never been to before.
Immediately after I walked in, the women were
staring at me. As a black woman, I’m used to
this. I was also wearing a merlot colour lipstick
and big headphones so I wrote off their looks as
inquisitive, or disapproving of my chosen
aesthetic (I can see how it may be an acquired
taste). Either way, their prying eyes were
inconsequential, because as a black woman who
has experienced being the only black woman in
her class, or at her place of work, staring is
something I can generally ignore.
I smiled, said my salaams (which weren’t
returned), put my bags on the floor of the
musullah and prayed my first two rakahs. A
woman came over to me in the middle of my
salaah and proceeded to say “excuse me” at
least 5 times. I ignored her, disgusted by her
disrespect, but eventually so frazzled that I could
not continue praying. When she had succeeded
in getting my attention she said, “This is an Urdu-
speaking mosque.”
I didn’t move. I didn’t respond. I looked at her,
waiting until she made her point, shocked at her
audacity and disrespect. She waited for me to
respond but when she saw that I wasn’t going to,
she continued, “There is another mosque where
you can go not too far from here. There are
more people like you there.”
I was in complete disbelief, I looked around at
the other aunties who were smiling and nodding
in agreement. It made me think they had drawn
straws to see who would come and tell me that I
was not welcome, and that they were glad it
wasn’t them.
I stood for a moment that felt like a lifetime,
bouncing around in my own head, trying to
unpack what I had just heard. I turned back to
the qibla, finished praying, grabbed my stuff and
left. The sound of anger was loud, and it clouded
my thoughts. I knew what “people like you”
meant. Black people. People whose skin is
always dark enough to be offensive, its presence
so jarring, so stirring that those women felt
compelled to interrupt someone’s communion
with God to save themselves from having to be
in its presence.
I wish I could say that this experience existed in
a vacuum, but it doesn’t. I have experienced
overt racism in the masjid on at least three
separate occasions, directed at me by other
Muslims online more than 50 times, and subtly
more times than I can count. It’s frustrating that
when black Muslims try to have these
conversations they are often shut down
immediately by using Bilal (rA)’s name. The only
time that anti-black racism in the Ummah is
discussed in depth is usually amongst a group of
black Muslims, outside of our religious spaces.
The kinds of stories I hear from other brothers
and sisters about their experiences with racism
from other Muslims are stunning.
We need to be able to have these conversations
in our masjids, in our other religious spaces, in
our homes with our families, in our social groups,
whether we have a black friend present or not.
We need to check each other when anti-black
racism arises. We can’t wear keffiyehs around
our necks and stand in the middle of a pro-
Palestine protest but go home and use the word
abeed, or not stand in solidarity with our black
brothers and sisters and not give them space to
share their experiences safely.
Last year I met a black woman who experienced
so much emotional and psychological violence in
the masjid because of her blackness, that she
left Islam. I often wonder if Bilal (rA) would be
ashamed to hear the ways in which he is
tokenized by clearly racist Muslims to justify
their racism. We need to do better and be better.
We need to interrogate our anti-blackness, we
need to unlearn our language and the
stereotypes that we have conceived around black
people. We need to be open to critique and
challenge when our words or sentiments are
triggering and oppressive. We need to shed the
defensiveness. When we are able to do this, we
will begin to heal the trauma and distrust left by
anti-black racism.
I believe that when we can have these
conversations, hear these stories, mobilize for
change we will truly be an Ummah. As long as
we adhere to racial hierarchies or allow racism
to parade itself in front of us without challenging
it, we will continue to be disjointed, and the
trauma and hurt will fester.
We’re capable of closing these wounds and
healing, but we have to be dedicated.

Music/Radio / Why Kanye West Is Threatening To Boycott The 2017 Grammys by hafees: 7:05am On Oct 25, 2016
Ocean’s two albums, Blonde and Endless, have been deemed ineligible for consideration at the 2017 Grammys, as neither was submitted before the Sept. 30 deadline. When West took the stage in Oakland, Calif., Saturday as part of his Saint Pablo Tour, the 39-year-old rapper argued that there’s a double standard at play—and he pointed to pop singer Lady Gaga as an example.
“So, I don’t know if any of y’all remember: I was supposed to go on a tour with Gaga, like about six, seven years ago—a while back,” West told concertgoers inside the Oracle Arena, referring to the scrapped Fame Kills tour planned for late 2009 and early 2010. “I remember, that it was something…She wasn’t nominated for Best New Artist, right? But they wanted her to perform at the show; they wanted her to open, right? So, the Grammys secretly changed something about the nominations in order to nominate her—in order for her to perform in the show.”
The audience booed in solidarity with West.
