The minister of information, culture and tourism, Lai Muhammed, has said the release of the 21 Chibok girls was not a swap for some Boko Haram insurgents – He said the release of the girls came after an established confidence between the leadership of the sect and some negotiators Lai Muhammed, minister of information, culture and tourism The minister of information, culture and tourism, Lai Muhammed, has denied claims that the recent release of the 21 Chibok girls was not a swap for some terrorists. “This is not a swap, this was a release. They were flown to Kaduna from the location of their release,” Mohammed said the girls were released by 5.30 am Thursday, October 13, morning,” Mohammed said. He also said the release of the girls is the effort of the federal government to Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari to safe rescue. He said the release of the girls came after an established confidence between the leadership of the sect and some negotiators. The moment we heard a credible lead, the president gave the Department of State Services (DSS) and the authority to pursue their release. As soon as an agreement were reached the parties agreed and a place of exchange was agreed upon,”Mohammed added. The minister also said that team of medical doctors, psychologist, social workers and trauma experts havw been put in place to attend to the girls once they arrive Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. News broke out earlier that the deadly Boko Haram terror group had released 21 of the over 200 kidnapped school girls in the earlier hours of Thursday. Both Femi Adesina and Mr Garba Shehu had confirmed the release of the girls to Naij.com in a separate telephone chat. Bishop Emmah Isong, the founder of
Christian Central Chapel in Calabar, has
dismissed the belief that President
Muhammadu Buhari has the capacity to
effect resounding changes in Nigeria, All
Africa reports.
Bishop Isong speaking in Calabar, on
Tuesday, November 11, said: “The belief that
Buhari was coming to change Nigeria in its
totality was incorrect as that is not what
God brought him to do this time around.
Similarly, God did not bring President
Buhari as Nigeria’s messiah. Buhari has
only come as a class prefect to ensure that
there is no noise in the class; just to sanitize
the polity after which he leaves the stage.”
The International President of Association of
God’s Servants, argued that both Buhari and
the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
are not prepared to govern the country.
Meanwhile, Reverend Chris Okotie, the
general overseer of Household of God
church has said that former president
Goodluck Jonathan would not have
contested in the 2015 presidential election
but was swayed to contest by the false
prophecy of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the
president of the Christian Association of
Nigeria (CAN).
Okotie said this during a sermon on Sunday,
October 25 in his church in Lagos. He said
the president of CAN falsely prophesied that
Jonathan would win the election
convincingly which was why Jonathan went
along to contest in the election which he
eventually lost to Muhammadu Buhari.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has forced eleven permanent secretaries in the state civil service into retirement owing to health related issues, Daily Post reports. Samuel Ortom According to the commissioner for information and orientation, Ode Ageh, shortly after an emergency state executive council meeting on Tuesday, November 10, at the Peoples House in Makurdi, the state capital, the directive was with immediate effect. The commissioner noted that adding to the health reason for the retirement, the government also considered their ages and performances in the civil service. The permanent secretaries who were affected in the forced retirement are Stev Ato, Terna Iorkyaa, Joseph Okor, Akperan Anunne and Eugene Ivase. READ ALSO: Benue People Want Ex- Governor To Be Probed Others are Godwin Ejembi, Shabu B., Ade John, Asen Sambe, Tor Jun and Terlumun Tsegba. According to the dismissal, Ageh also said that even vehicles were recovered from officials of the past administration of the immediate past governor, Gabriel Suswam. He however warned that those who still keeping properties belonging to the government of the state should endeavour to return them so as to avoid prosecution. Meanwhile, Gabriel Suswam, the embattled erstwhile governor of Benue state, had recently lamented what he described as misinformation from the All Progressives Congress during the 2015 general elections which alleged that he stole the state’s funds meant for workers’ salaries. According to Daily Post, Suswam who governed the state from 2007 to 2015, an administration that has been tagged the worst in the history of the country, denied stealing the state’s money during his eight years in office. Despite the denial by his predecessor, Governor Ortom still insisted that his predecessor, Suswam, must face trial to account for his stewardship while in office as governor for eight years. He said that Suswam left an empty treasury when he left office in May 29 saying that the people of the state are interested to know how these monies grew wings. https://www.naij.com/633899-governor-ortom-fired-11-permanent-secretaries.html

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and popular human rights lawyer, said it was wrong for Bukola Saraki, the Senate president to suspend Senate’s sittings whenever his case was to be heard at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Femi Falana According to him, the action of the Senate and its President was an assault on the nation’s collective morality, The Nation reports. He added that the Senate president violated Paragraph 1 of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers by suspending Senate’s sittings to enable him to attend court sittings in company of fellow senators. Falana advised Saraki to stop suspending Senate to attend his trial at the CCT with other senators. He disclosed this in an address, titled: As Corruption Fights Back , delivered on Monday, November 9 at the investiture of Dare Oseni as the 2015/2016 President of the International Association of Lions Club, Lagos Isolo Lions Club, at Samkoll Graden, Idimu, Lagos. The lawyer stated: “ If this morally despicable behaviour is not halted, the distinguished senators may soon resolve to appear in the various courts in the country in solidarity with other members who are facing terrorism and corruption charges. “As the Senate President, Dr Bukola is required to preside over the affairs of the legislative house in the discharge of its constitutional duty of making laws for the country. Attendance at court sittings in solidarity with any criminal suspect is certainly not part of the constitutional responsibilities of the senate .” The activist noted that it was wrong to allow public servants facing corruption allegations to remain in office in the course of their trial, adding that the right to do was to step aside till they are cleared of such allegations. He pointed out that paragraphs 303, 404 of the Federal Government Public Service Rules (Corrected Version 2008) stipulates that when a public officer is charged to court with a criminal offence he/she shall be interdicted and cease to report for duty until the determination of the case. Saraki is accused of a false declaration of assets and is currently facing trial at the CCT following a 13-count charge brought against him of alleged corruption and false declaration of assets while serving as Kwara state governor. His trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal commenced on September 22 in Abuja. Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba, had on behalf of the 8th Senate, said he and his colleagues were strongly behind the embattled senate president . The Senate president has been attending his trial accompanied by his colleagues suspending Senate sitting for that day. They converge on the National Assembly from where they take off in a convoy of buses for the tribunal. https://www.naij.com/633848-violating-law-falana-criticizes-saraki-closing-senate-cct-trial.html |

Ibrahim Babangida, a former military president, said that he would not seek any political post again in Nigeria. He made the statement on Tuesday, Novermber 10, in Minna, the NAN reports. He also said he turned down an invitation by the PDP for a rebranding conference. Nevertheless, Babangida said he would continue to offer his wise counsel to all politicians towards building a better Nigeria. “If I called it quit in 2011, why would PDP contemplate fielding a 78 year-old man in a presidential election in a country that parades very vibrant men and women of lesser age? I have no intention whatsoever to run for any office again in Nigeria,” he said. Babangida further said the invitation by the PDP would amount to playing partisan politics, adding that he remained a statesman. “While I welcome the invitation to the event as a mark of respect as one of the founding fathers, I want to be excused on the grounds that I have long bid bye to partisan politics. “Four years ago at an elaborate event at the Transcorp Hilton Hotels Abuja, I announced my retirement from partisan politics after my failed attempt to contest for president,” he added. https://www.naij.com/633708-wont-seek-political-post-ever-former-president-babangida.html |
