Problem #1 - Majority of the opportunities I came across were saturated network marketing schemes.

"When the Environment Is Not Conducive..." -- Find a way around it.

For instance, I had to go to an eatery to be able to get network to browse while I was in Benin because I was working on my dream.

Some days, I had to go to an isolated primary school many days in a row to enable me pray, plan and STUDY (had to highlight this one) for the dream that's in my heart.

There's no excuse on this matter.

I had to go outside my familiar territory in a bid to get the exposure that would help me think in alignment with the vision that I had. (I was in Abuja at the time, in one of the satellite towns... had to find my way to Wuse 2 -- Sometimes just to breathe and think -- and see young people driving good cars too ;-) )

Because of the value placed on the kind of problem he solves. Anybody can take out trash - without any training whatsoever.

See why they don't earn so much right?

The value of the problem they solve.

So here's a simple 3 step strategy to earn more money on your job by becoming more valuable.

1. Identify the problems you're that are closely related to the problem you're currently being paid to solve.

You're currently being paid to solve a problem.

What is it?

I'd take an example from Education since it's something we can all relate to - and I studied education.

Teachers are paid to educate children.

What are the related problems?

1 - Some students are slow learners

2 - Others are not motivated to learn

3 - Some are visual learners and would not perform well by listening and writing alone

4 - Some others are either uninterested or just lazy

I hear teachers and parents complain about these all the time but not many of them rise to the challenge of solving any of the problems.

2. Equip yourself to solve the ones that are of interest to you.

I don't believe you should wear yourself out in uninspiring tasks in a bid to make more money so ensure that the problems you want to solve is one that is of interest to you - if you find out it's not as you go along, just switch. You have only one life to live.

This might require taking a course online or offline and signing up for a training.
Still using the example of the teaching profession, I'd have picked the second problem because I'm motivational at the core.

(I just love to get people to move and take action beyond limitations)

...but for business purposes I'd pick the third issue because I enjoy describing things for people to picture it and I know there are many earning opportunities in it.

I'd head over to youtube and start learning how to design visual instructional materials. I'd also enroll for a part time course on instructional material design.

I'm a trained teacher so you can understand. ;-)

Having equipped myself with this knowledge, I'd start implementing at the slightest chance I get and this takes us to the next step on the journey to earning more money.

3. Prove your competence in solving this problem.

You've identified a problem that's related to your work that you'd like to solve and began equipping yourself to solve this problem.

So what's the next thing you need to do so that you can earn more money and even get promoted on your current job?

You need to prove your competence by in solving this problem by consistently solving it.

Start applying the things you're learning at every opportunity you get and you'll begin to get noticed as you start producing better results.

Staying with the example from the teaching profession, how do you prove your competence in solving this problem?

There are several things you can do and I'll just share one to get you thinking.

Start applying your new knowledge in your regular classes. This will get the students talking...among themselves and to their parents who will in turn talk to your school administrators.

They'll start taking note of you...

Eventually when the students in your class show a significant increase in performance, you're well on your way to both earning more and landing a promotion.

I used to teach somewhere in a private owned tutorial center for a handful of children.

Some of the parents refused to pay... I didn't stop teaching.

I noticed the students where slow learners and so I decided to give them four extra hours... instead of coming thrice in a week I taught them everyday.

When their school results were released... the parents immediately paid all the outstanding fees, were happily discussing the improvements with neighbors and my employer wanted to me to stay.

Unfortunately, I was done there.

I moved on.

The tutorial center closed down.

The same principle works for different work situation and environment.

By equipping yourself to solve more problems for your organization, you're getting yourself onto the list of the most valuable staff and in turn increasing your chances of earning higher income.

Pls my question is this: for how long can some 1 save to start a new business.

This depends entirely on a few factors.

1. How much do you require to get started?

You might be overestimating how much you actually NEED to get started.

For example, some years ago I wanted to start an online business and had made estimates and was going to invest.

My mentor asked me a simple question that opened my eyes to see this truth.

I had wanted to pay for 2 years hosting but realized I didn't need to do that to get started - 12 months was sufficient to get started. I channeled the remaining cash elsewhere.

So you'll need to carefully reassess your projections to know how much you really need to get started just so you don't postpone your commencement date unnecessarily.

2. How much can you set aside regularly for this purpose and how often... (daily, weekly, monthly??)

Once you know how much you really need to get started, the next thing to do is to lay out how you plan to get it and in this case that includes determining how much you are willing and able to set aside and how often.

3. How else can you get the money?

I don't like the idea of taking a bank loan to start a business. I don't even encourage it but there are creative ways to raise capital without taking a bank loan and I'm working on sharing more on that in the coming days.

So much has been said about the importance of saving in recent times that it has become necessary for me to point out a deception so that you don't fall victim to the same trap I did a few years back.

Growing up as a child wasn't all rosy for me...

I didn't get everything I wanted handed to me on a platter so I had to find ways to get things for myself.

I learnt to save from a very early age.

At age seven, I'd walk to school (even though I had transport fare) and keep my lunch money all because I was saving to buy football... I dared not ask for money to buy football at the time. ;-)

Naturally, before I was 18 years of age, I had learnt how to save money without struggle.

(Don't worry I'll give you free access to my insider secrets on how to save money when it's hard to save at the end of this article)

It was an exciting feeling... you know that extra confidence boost you get from knowing there's cash stored up somewhere huh? ;-)

But there was a problem...

I seemed to always be in a worse financial situation after meeting my goal...

Something was terribly wrong.

I thought saving was the key to wealth?

How come it was making me broke?!

Where was I going wrong?

I read all those materials that tells you to pay yourself first... they didn't seem to have the answer I was looking for.

I began to do some intense thinking...

You know how they say to look within because you probably already know the answer you seek right?

Good!

(That's exactly what I did.)

I found out two ways saving was making me broke.

Reduced buying power...

I was saving to amass wealth... to have more money so that I could buy the good things I wanted the only problem was that the inflation rate usually had a way of making my saved cash worth a little lesser in terms of purchasing power. :-(

Do you remember how much you bought toothpaste a just seven months ago? How much is it now?

Well, the scenario above didn't always catch up with me.

There were times when I could still afford the things that I wanted but... they only left me broke as well.

Okay.

Here's an instance...

As an undergraduate in the university, I was very passionate about phones...

I'd save up money before the end of the semester and while everyone else was crying of hunger, I'll be on the lookout for those who wanted to sell really good smart phones. :-;

But as a consequence... I'd then need to buy data. The more sophisticated the smartphone was, the higher the data consumption of the phone.

Remember 100MB was N1,000 back then... it wasn't doing much for me. I'd go for the N2,500 MTN 4.5GB (1.5GB Day and 3GB Night Plan)... The 1.5GB was easily used up so I'd end up having to subscribe the N1,000 plan in addition to this plan.

My cash was fleeting...

Saving became a struggle.

I'd save up some cash and end up using it up to meet "needs".

I was disappointed... I thought saving was going to make me rich.

But I'm not a quitter...

I had decided I was going to get rich or very rich. There was no other option for me so I had to find a way.

And I began to study and that was when I found out the missing part of the equation...

It's not just about saving money it's about what you do with your savings - this will determine your outcome.

Most people... they save to buy things that take money out of their pockets... cars, phones, etc...liabilities.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

But if you're aspiring for a life of wealth and abundance, you can't play by that rule.

Save to invest.
Save to start your own business.
Save to take advantage of opportunities.
There are opportunities to earn everywhere around you. Save to take advantage of them for your own profiting.

Right there, my friend, is how saving made me broke and how you can avoid my error.

I made a post here a few days back to share the one thing that will enable you build wealth in 2017.

One of the readers requested that I share some resources to help people increase their financial intelligence and instead of writing about books like I typically would have done, I decided to share a list of five facebook groups that have been of immense value to me.


1. SmartBCamp - by John Obidi

This group is a community of seasoned entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs where the members get to add value to each other.

Because this is a really large community, I suggest that you stay focused and not try to learn everything to avoid being overwhelmed. This is a great place for the 21st century entrepreneur. I particularly lookout for posts by John Obidi himself.

One thing you cannot ignore is the weekly SmartBCamp teleseminars which holds by 8PM every Thursday.

2. Breakthrough Academy - by Arise Arizechi

The journey of entrepreneurship can be brutal. This group makes the journey more exciting and adventurous rather than a torture.

One amazing thing about this group is the breakthrough show where the founder invites seasoned entrepreneurs to share their journey and answer your questions.

I like the #MorningCoffee a great deal. Its such an amazing way to get started on your day.

3. Sell Your Brain Society - by Ronald Ikenna Nzimora

If you want to sell your knowledge on the internet for a living, you shouldn't by any means ignore this group.

Mr Ronald knows his onions! He's arguably the best copywriter in this part of the world. I came in contact with him for the first time in March this year at a seminar I was attending in Lagos and...

I first encountered DJ Sobanjo in July this year on a coaching call with him where he added a ton of value to me.

I interacted with his content and because of my short term goals at the time, I stepped aside.

I've been consuming his content lately in preparation for the coming year and I highly recommend this group to anyone who want to become a public speaker or run a successful coaching business.

There's an ongoing series on strategic positioning for 2017.

I've found that on the journey to financial freedom... it's really not about struggling or hustling like many people assume.

(I'm sure you know many hustlers who are going around in circles of lack and frustration.)

Think about it.

Watch Videos.
Attend Seminars online and offline.

Kudos on taking giant strides to startup a business of your own.

I understand it's usually not fun to watch your staff "idle" but you must realize that your staff is human too.

The time in between when there's no much traffic coming in to your business center, ALLOW HER REST it's when there's work to do and she's idle that you should worry about and believe it or not if you start meddling with the free time she gets, she'll soon start plotting her departure (maybe at your expense).

Understand that you didn't buy a human being for N15,000; you employed a staff to GET THINGS DONE!

Outline the things she needs to do on a daily basis and when she's done let her be.

I also encourage you to motivate your staff to read books (you should be reading books yourself too) and use that free time to develop herself. She'll always appreciate you for this.

Look here; N15,000 is a fare pay especially since you're just starting out but regardless of how much you pay don't think you're buying your staff and always encourage them to invest that time in themselves.

You'll get amazing and loyal staff that way.

After you activate the US Payment Service, you can use it to request for payment.

Using the ATM right now would not give you a good return so I recommend you sell the funds to others here so that you can get black market rate of about N250-N270/USD.
